CS4 Library empty  - Many threads here... few answeres

I've installed CS4 from the CS4 Production Premium CDs .  Did what appeared to be a full install.  The routine doesn't offer many choices.... install or browse.
I'm just now getting to Encore... having spent several days working up a project with PS AE and Premiere.
Now I find some nasty little suprise in Encore that I'm missing all library files.
I see many threads here with a search on Encore library... but not really usable  answers.
Many suggestions to call adobe... not much help late at night.  Nor should it be remotely necessary to learn where the library files are or why they are not installed.
Some hits suggested the files should be in C:\Program Files\Adobe\...EncoreCS4\library. Or something like that....
Of course I have no such directory. There is a 5th disc in the set marked `Content' that appears to hold nothing related to encore or library files.
And in fact appears to have very little of value at all.  A folder makred `Documentation' has pdfs that are really little more than README files.  Not really documentation at all.
There is a directory marked `Goodies' holding only some photoshop files and a fonts.
The whole `Contents' disc appears to be little more than junk really.
So after spending lots of money and a good bit of time... I'm missing major amounts of the product...
Surely someone knows where to get this stuff.

Dear All,
Ye gods what a palaver - I have had the same problem with the library in CS4 Encore - having read all the pain that others are going through (and I have gone through) - here is the solution (from Adobe no less). There are obviously two separate resolutions - one for the 'boxed set' and another for the downloaded suite.
Issue
When you access the Library panel in Adobe Encore CS4, the panel contains no content. Additionally, there is no sub-folder named Library within the Encore CS4 application folder on your hard drive.
Solution
1. Verify enough disk space is available.
Verify that at least 5 GB of of free space is available on the hard drive on which Encore CS4 is installed.
2. Install the Encore CS4 library.
Do one of the following:
If you downloaded Premiere Pro CS4 or Adobe Creative Suite 4 from the Adobe Online Store:
In a web browser, go to to www.adobe.com/membership.
Sign in with your Adobe ID and password.
Click View Order History.
Download the Content Extra And Resources item.
Do one of the following:
Mac OS: Double-click the .dmg that you downloaded. On the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Content disk image, open the Encore CS4 Functional Content folder. Then double-click Setup.
Windows: Double-click the .exe file that you downloaded.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
If you purchased Adobe Creative Suite 4 as physical (boxed) software:
Insert installation Disc 1 into your computer's DVD drive.
Double-click Setup (Mac OS) or Setup.exe (Windows) on the disc.
In the list of items that can be installed, deselect all of the items. Then select Adobe Encore CS4.
Click Install.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
For our own solution we are doing the install again (from a boxed set) to another pc and will then pick up the missing library folder (and hopefully all of its' content) and plonk it into the Encore CS4 folder on the pc that requires it (this will hopefully mean that no damage/harm can come to all the work already done within CS4 on the master pc) if anything bad happened to all the work (backed up or no) achieved to date then I would be forced to board a plane to California and take a large gnome under my arm (with reference to John Cleese & Fawlty Towers). C'mon Adobe - this stuff costs a fortune, at least make it work !!
Hope this works for everyone (hope it works for me come to that).

  • Many questions, very few answers

    A few weeks ago I posted a question about Mac, mobile telephone and bluetooth. Have not got one single answer yet. Then I realised that there are a long list of similar questions in this forum, but very few useful answers. Does anyone have a theory about why this is so and what can be done to improve the situation?
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    In just 5 minutes I was able to set up my MacBook Pro to use my Sony Ericsson M600i as a blue-tooth modem. Here's how I did it:
    These instructions are taken from Ross Barkman's web-site http://www.taniwha.org.uk/. Even though the example below is for the SonyEricsson M600i, Ross provides 3G modem scripts for most handset makes. I have successfully used Ross scripts to set up networking with my SonyEricsson M600i as well as with my Nokia N70 and N80. Ross' scripts are pintware so please send Ross a small donation such as $5 for his excellent work.
    Ross also provides local operator settings which you need in order to configure Internet Connect. For example, in the case of the Swedish operator Telia you enter the following:
    Telephone Number: online.telia.se
    User: guest
    Password: guest
    For all other operators, please see: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/gprs.html
    Instructions
    1. Download the Sony Ericsson Modem Scripts from Ross Barkmans web site: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/files/SonyEricsson3G-2005-01.sit
    Drop the modem scripts into Library/Modem Scripts
    2. Set up PPP:
    A. Open Network Preferences
    B. Optional: Create a new location - call it "Mobile" or whatever (this is not absolutely necessary, since the modem config in the current location can have different settings to the existing Ethernet, etc. ports, but a separate location may be useful if you already have a mobile phone dial setting for the same IrDA/Bluetooth/USB port in your default location)
    C. Select "Show: Bluetooth" (or a USB-serial or IrDA Modem port if you are using those)
    D. Select the PPP tab and enter your network name in "Service Provider".
    E. Enter in "Telephone Number" the APN for your network or NONE
    F. Enter the Account name & Password (if required)
    G. Press the "PPP Options..." button
    H. Make sure that 'Send PPP echo packets' is not selected
    3. Set up modem
    A. Select the Bluetooth Modem (or the equivalent USB or IrDA name) tab in Network Preferences
    B. Set 'Modem: "Sony Ericsson 3G <whichever script you're trying>"'
    4. If using IrDA, turn on Sony Ericsson Infrared port:
    A. <This procedure varies from phone to phone - see your users guide>
    B. Line up phone's IR port facing IR port on PowerBook.
    5. Connect:
    A. Open Internet Connect
    B. Select Bluetooth Modem Port (or the equivalent USB or IrDA port name)
    C. Click "Connect"
    D. No dial/modem sounds are heard during connection process

  • I have deleted my library on my ipod by accident (how many people must say that). I have a smaller library with my laptop here in qatar, but can I re install my music from my pc at home in uk, from Qatar?

    I have deleted my library on my ipod by accident (how many people must say that). I have a smaller library with my laptop here in qatar, but can I re install my music from my pc at home in uk, from Qatar?

    " When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
    " How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
    Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
    The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • A lot of questions but few answers.  That is a fact.

    A lot of questions and few answers.  That is a fact.  My question is about deregistering a kaputt PC, and synchronizing iPod and iPod with a replacement PC w/o losing content.  I had a Toshiba with tummy trouble sychronized with and iPod and an iPad.  I bought content on all three and added content from CDs I already had.  They synchronized fine.  I deleted iTunes on the troubled Toshiba and installed it on a new Gateway.  The Gateway has far less content on iTunes and threatens to delete content from the iPod or iPad if I synchronize.  All I want to do is get all the shtuff together again on at least the Gateway and the iPod, preferably the iPad also.  Also, how to deregister the kranky Toshiba given that iTunes is deleted on it.  Why am I appealing to someone out there with time on their hands.  Doesnt Apple employ people for that?  If not, its high time they did.

    Apple does employ people to help with technical problems. They're called Apple Technical Support, available by phone (use the Contact Us link at the lower-right of any Apple web page), and Geniuses, available at any Apple Store.
    As to your questions, I'm not completely clear on where you have what content, but if it's all on your iPod or iPad, then you can transfer the content back into iTunes (a subject which, by the way, has been covered here many times already). For content purchased from the iTunes Store, see this support article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
    For content not purchased from the iTunes Store, check out this post from Zevoneer for some iPod/iPhone media recovery options:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10570955#10570955
    As to your question about "deregistering", I presume you're referring to authorization to the iTunes Store. It would have been best to have deauthorized the Toshiba before you uninstalled iTunes. You cannot yourself deauthorize a computer that's not working or to which you no longer have access. You can authorize a total of up to five systems, so it's probably not really important that you deauthorize your dead unit now. Once you reach five total authorizations, a button will appear in your iTunes Store account that will allow you to deauthorize all your systems, so that would at that time recover the now-useless authorization.
    Regards.

  • I have lost most of my i tunes library.  Many of the lost songs are are my ipod.  What happens if I load plug my ipod into the computer?  Will I erase whats on the ipod because there'll be no match found on my itunes library.  Or..will I be allowed to mov

    I have lost my i tunes library.  Many of my lost songs are on my two nano i pods.
    Since I have lost my i tunes library I have re-installed most songs.  However I have a large number of songs on my i pods which I would like to retrieve.  If I try to load my i pods to my computer will I lose the songs which I could not get re-installed to my library but are on the i pods.  Since I lost my library I have not re-introduced my i pods for updating since they too will likely have to be re-installed.  Will I lose the songs already in the i pods if have to re-introduce them to my computer.  A solution to this problem would be for me to transfer my lost library songs from the i pod to my library.  Can this be done?
    1)  Is it possible to retrieve songs from a lost i tunes library?  Withoutout re-loading the entire library (since I have done this manually).
    2)  What happens if I re-introduce my i pods to the computer?  Will this cause me to lose the present i pod installed music?
    3)  Can I transfer my lost songs and albums from my i pods to the i tunes library?

    See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452022?start=0&tstart=0
    As you will have discovered, the music sync is only one way, from iTunes to the iPod, minus iTunes purchases.  On top of that, an iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.

  • 10.6.4 Woes - Read many threads but still need help!

    Howdy all!
    Here's the deal, I'm having problems which I can only trace back to the upgrade to 10.6.4. Everything seemed to be fine for a couple of weeks but something happened when I set-up my new office in my house (external monitor, hard drives etc) I've read so many threads and have tried different things but now am at a loss. I'm way out of warranty so I can even go to the Genius bar or will they charge me? Here's the gist.
    Symptoms:
    A) Long boot on gray screen, once finder is open the system is frozen for like 10 minutes, dock won't pop up etc. Mouse can move but won't click anything. After 10 minutes things seem to be fine.
    B) Computer won't wake up from sleep mode (like if I close the laptop cover) but it will wake-up if the display has gone off
    C) Firewire seems to no longer work
    Here's what I have tried already:
    1) Installed the combo update (fresh download)
    2) Repaired permissions (several times and it keeps finding them)
    3) Trashed my firewire port (no change)
    4) Disable airport (and basically what happens when I do this is that instead of waiting 10 minutes with just a mouse arrow, I have a beachball (non-spinning) for 10 minutes which then disappears when the machine decides to work) At one point I had a hazy blue screen over my desktop and that disappeared after 10 minutes but I've only had that happen one time
    5) My disk is OK per Disk Utility, and it says its S.M.A.R.T. status is enabled (or whatever it is supposed to say I forget at the moment but I checked it as one thread suggested and it was as it is supposed to be)
    6) The machine boots fine in safe mode - though it is still a long boot but you can use it as soon as the finder loads.
    7) The only thing I haven't done is zap my pram (will this help?) and how do you do it?
    Thoughts? I can roll back to 10.6.3 which I know has pros and cons but at least it works.
    My Applecare ran out and I'm pretty broke at the moment so I don't want to pay for support if I don't have to (although it's more than I don't want to spend a lot of time at the Apple Store to find out something I already know - that 10.6.4 is buggy!(
    Help please and thanks so much! Sorry for the long post but I thought I would try to save some questions. I've read so many threads it was all running together.

    Oh and yet a new symptom - I can't seem to sync my iPhone 3G. I could sync the photos to iPhoto, but not iTunes, it keeps timing out!

  • I deleted unwanted photos from my iPhoto library, emptied iPhoto trash & Finder trash... this did not free up disk space. please help!

    I deleted unwanted photos from my iPhoto library, emptied iPhoto trash & Finder trash... this did not free up disk space. please help!
    I have a 15-inch MacBook Pro (Late 2011) with OS X Mavericks 10.9.5
    Last week, my 500 GB Harddrive had 120 GB free space. I was feeling crumby and decided to make productive use of taking a day off to lounge around. I snuggled up with my laptop and dedicated hours to meticulously combing through my iPhoto Library. I had 13,000 pictures, and I got rid of those I didn't want. Having said "sayōnara" to about 6,500 pictures, I then emptied the iPhoto trash and the Finder trash. I took delight in the iconic paper crumpling sound of them vanishing into the digital void.
    Everything seemed perfect: the photos I loved were still there, the photos I loathed were gone, both trashes were beautifully empty. Having thrown away all of those awful, boring, and unflattering images of poorly light lunches and selfies gone wrong, my iPhoto library was half the size as before! I felt renewed, a little lighter, somehow more free, and I expected my hard drive to be a bit different to.
    I eagerly checked my storage stats. My heart sank to see that my 120 GB of free space, was still only 120 GB of free space. I restarted my MacBook; this did not help. I restarted it the next day; this also did not help. It's been 5 days and the hard drive still has 120 GB free space. This is not an emergency and it will probably be a good while before I clutter my laptop to the brim. Yet while I am glad I don't have to see cringeworthy pictures of my ex's unmentionables every time I'm showing off things I do want to remember, I'm still disappointed and now obsessed with solving this mystery.
    What is going on? I don't see them, so where are they hiding? How do I get the free space I should have earned from throwing away 1,000's of photos?!

    Thank you, Terence!
    Yes, I only emptied the trash when it was really full, once I waited until the trash cans contained 2,600 photos and then I emptied them - Oooops! In the future, I'll keep in mind your suggestion of deleting less than 100 photos at a time.
    I downloaded the iPhoto Library Manager and used it to rebuild my iPhoto. After a few hours of rebuilding, it generated a new copy of my iPhoto Library. This versions was nearly identical to the original (it was missing 5 photos and was therefore only 5 mb smaller). I guess my Library wasn't defective.
    I checked my storage stats, and interestingly, using iPhoto Library Manager did help with the problem that developed after I re-indexed my hard drive. My hard drive is able to properly recognize data categories again, instead of listing almost everything as "Other". Understandably, my free disk space changed from 120 GB to about 60 GB, because my hard drive now contained a second copy of my iPhoto Library as well as iPhoto Library Manager. It seemed like all I needed to do was throw these away, but when I emptied the trash, my problem was not solved. My Hard drive now looked like this:
    It appears to me that when I empty the trash, the things I throw away are just hanging around as backups instead of leaving! I went into System Preferences and turned of my time machine OFF. Now my hard drive looks likes this:
    The back ups of the iPhoto files, and the program which I deleted, are still on my hard drive some where but now they are listed as "Other" instead of "Backups". Do you know where they might be and how I can delete them for good?

  • How many  threads are running?

    here's the code... i am trying to understand, at each point, how many threads are running:
    I understand that one thread belongs to the caller of the start()
    & at the same time there is another thread belonging to the instances of each thread (thread1, thread2, thread 3 etc.)
    1public class ThreadTester {
    2   public static void main( String args[] )
    3   {
    4      PrintThread thread1, thread2, thread3, thread4;
    5
    6      thread1 = new PrintThread( "thread1" );
    7      thread2 = new PrintThread( "thread2" );
    8      thread3 = new PrintThread( "thread3" );
    9      thread4 = new PrintThread( "thread4" );
    10
    11      System.err.println( "\nStarting threads" );
    12
    13      thread1.start();
    14      thread2.start();
    15      thread3.start();
    16      thread4.start();
    17
    18      System.err.println( "Threads started\n" );
    19   }
    }can you tell me if i am counting the number of threads in existance correctly...
    LINE#.....CALLER...START...TOTAL THREADS
    13..............1.........1.......2
    14..............1+1......1+1.....4
    15..............2+1......2+1.....6
    16..............3+1......3+1.....8
    so by the time line 16 executes i have a total of 8 threads,
    4 threads belonging to each caller plus
    4 threads created by start()
    or is it
    LINE#.....CALLER...START...TOTAL THREADS
    13..............1........1........2
    14..............1........1+1.....3
    15..............1........2+1.....4
    16..............1........3+1.....5
    after line 16 executes does the caller thread die, thus leaving only a total of 4 threads?
    there is only one thread belonging to the caller at line 13(plus the thread it creates).
    at the start of line 14, the previous callers thread is dead & now a new thread is created that belongs to the caller on line 14... etc.

    well, i realize at the end there would be 4 threads but im trying to get my head around this explanation in the book:
    "A program launches a threads executioin by calling the threads start method, which in turn call the run method. After start launches the thread, start returns to tis caller immediately. The caller then executes concurrently with the lauched thread." there fore if i have 2 concurrent processes, are there 2 threads running????
    now having said the above, my question was:
    for each line,
    how many threads are in existance at
    line13
    line14
    line15
    line16
    thanks.

  • Too many threads?

    Is there a such thing as using too many threads? I'm in the planning stages and it would be nice to have each object running on its own thread, but is this a horrible thing? Is there a general rule of thumb on the number of running threads?

    Personally, I think if you have more than 20 or so
    threads in a process, the task swiching time will
    start to exceed the useful work done. Its better to
    use one of the standard patterns for pooling threads.There is no one 'right' or 'maximum' number of threads.
    The number of threads after which things get overly inefficient varies greatly depending on the characteristics of the application. If 20 threads fully consume the CPU, then adding more threads will only make things worse. If 20 threads can only use 10% of the CPU resources because of external delays (network access, database, etc.) then it may be true that using 200 threads is best, assuming of course that the throughput capacity of the network, database or external system can accomidate the increased load.
    What you'd like to avoid is preemption - a runnable thread interrupts a currently running thread that still has need of the CPU - this wastes time. If the running threads tend to block before the end of their time slice, then there really isn't going to be any added cost to context switches, nothing else would be using the CPU anyway.
    If the computer the application is running on has a number of CPU's, then it can probably accomidate more threads than a single CPU system. Of course there are limits to the effectiveness of this and a single process with many threads may not (often does not) run as efectively as several copies of the application with fewer threads each due to various inter thread contention issues.

    Can anybody help? Accidentally trashed iphoto library, emptied trash!

    Obvious question I know, but do you have a back up?
    There is no way to recover an intact iPhoto Library once it's deleted. The best you can hop for is togged bak the photos. Try a app like File Salvage - you can download a free trial and it will scan the disk for you and tell you with might be recoverable. Actual recovery will require that you purchase the app. There may be many files with the same or similar names. Always recover the largest file size.
    There are other such apps. Search on Macupdate or the App Store

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Library Update Pathing Problem

    Hi folks,
    I've been using Dreamweaver since version 3, but I just
    recently encountered a very strange problem which breaks my ability
    to update my site with library items. When the problem occurred, I
    tried creating a new site definition and the update process worked
    until I made a change to the remote host directory for the site.
    Once I made that change, the host directory is now somehow part of
    the library path even though the host directory does not exist in
    my local folder structure.
    For example, the correct path to my library item in my
    templates and pages is:
    "/library/footer.lbi"
    However, if in the Site definition window I add the following
    entry to the Remote Info category:
    Host directory: ABC (or ABC/ as Dreamweaver redefines it)
    I get this error message when trying to update the site's
    pages (even after rebuilding the site cache):
    item E:\My Documents\Web
    Sites\www.abc.com\library\footer.lbiE:\My Documents\Web
    Sites\www.abc.com\library\footer.lbi contains an invalid path.
    When I add the library item to a page (after the Host
    Directory change), then this is the path it creates in the Web page
    to the library item (and thus causes the error message above):
    <!-- #BeginLibraryItem "/ABC/library/footer.lbi" -->
    This site definition worked perfect in previous versions of
    Dreamweaver, so I'm confused as to why this strange glitch is
    happening.
    Links are relative to the document for this site and all of
    my sites (as they always have been). Any ideas?

    Hi Alan,
    I resolved this issue a few months ago.  I'm sorry for the delay in a response--multiple career syndrome and online classes are the culprits.
    I believe the solution was removing an entry that Dreamweaver had automatically entered in the HTTP address field of the Local Info category on the Advanced tab of my site definition.  If my memory serves correctly, Dreamweaver had entered the Host Directory from the Remote Info tab after the HTTP address' domain and somehow this affected library updates.  (I have no Testing Server settings entered, by the way.)
    Here are answers to your numerous questions as a courtesy, albeit much delayed:
    Question: "is this a regular site or an RDS site?"
    Answer: I am not familiar with the RDS acronym.  I will assume that this may be an acronym referring to data in some way, such as the now deprecated Microsoft Remote Data Services technology.  The generic problem posed in my question refers to a static site without any database components.
    Question: "Is the icon next to the topmost folder in the local side of the Files Panel a folder icon, or a network icon? [two tiny computers with a wire between them]"
    Answer: The icon next to the top identifier or container for my site in the Files Panel under Local Files is always a folder in all of my sites.
    Question: "is the Library folder in the root level of the local site folder?"
    Answer: Yes.
    Question(s): "what kind of drive is E? is it a removable or a network drive? Or is it in your computer?"
    Answer: Drive E is an internal hard drive partition in my computer.

  • Encore CS4 Library files missing

    I just noticed that I was unable to see the standard menus or buttons in Encore so I checked the Library folder only to find that it does not exist. Any suggestions as to where this folder should be?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I'm new here, but have not found a solution to my problem of no library in Encore CS4.  I found one site that had instructions for those of us who bought the discs (Creative Suite 4 production premium) but I cannot seem to get the disc to work properly.
    The instructions were to put in the first disc go to setup.exe, deselect all items, select Encore, custom install, select Adobe Encore CS4 library, and install.  However, when I put in the disc and tried to deselect all items it would not work.  I could not select nor deselect, only fully install the suite all over again (which I have done 3 times).  Is there some trick to selecting or deselecting?
    Is there anyone with a solution to the library problem or should I try to get Adobe to send me another disc?
    Something strange when installing, I only used application disc 1 & 2, but have application discs 3 & 4 that are not used and seem to not have any exe files or usable files, a content disc that seems to have only a read me pdf file and a learning disc that directs me to websites.
    Any help would be great.
    Nancy

  • Waiting for many threads

    Hey guys,
    I know how to make one thread wait for another named thread to complete, but how do u make a thread wait for many threads to complete with the added problem of not knowing the names of the threads your waiting for? Looked and been trying for ages but can't get anything to work.
    Thanx
    Lisa

    No i saw it, pehaps i should rephrase with a question, how would you go about giving all these threads a reference? If it ain't obvious already am not great with java and if someone could tell me how to give the threads spawned references it would be great.
    As ive explained the code is really long so am not going to waist peoples time by posting it. Here is basically how i am spawning the threads "willy-nilly" style.
         while ((p < searchTerms.size())&&(p < 30)){
             term = (searchTerms.elementAt(p)).toString();
             NetChecker nc = new NetChecker(term,excludedAdds,refWeb);
             searchClasses.addElement(nc);
             new Thread(nc).start();
             p++;
         } the classes all return web addresses in a vector, thats why i need all the threads to complete so i can collect all the results
    Thanx
    Lisa
