CS4: lost layer?

I have recently upgraded form CS3 to CS4 Fireworks. I have a photoshop psd file with quite a few laywers showing th edesign of a web page I want to build. It includes a few layers for some drop down menus. When I open the file in Fireworks CS#, I can see all the layers when selectedin the layers window. However,  Fireworks CS4, I can see most of the layers, but not the drop down menu layers. Clicking in the layers window does nothing. But, with the same file using Photoshop CS4, and Fireworks CS3, those layers are visible.
Is there some setting on fireworks that I am missing? This is the very first file that I have tried to use with my new Fireworks CS4.

That's really weird! I sometimes come across a similar issue when importing complex PS/AI files that have a large number of layers and objects. The Layers panel doesn't show layers and is generally unresponsive (although the objects all display fine on the canvas, unlike in your case).
I found the solution to my problem, and maybe it will work for yours too: I open another (non-AI/PS) document in a new tab, or simply a new blank document. When switching back to the original AI/PS import file, the Layers panel all of a sudden "wakes up": it displays all layers properly and the import file works just fine.
Give it a try and see if it helps.
Good luck!

  • Does cs4 have layer comps?

Does cs4 have layer comps?  I don't see it in my Windows menu.

Yes, photoshop cs4 has Layer Comps.
Perhaps you have a workspace such as Basic that hides some of the menu items.
At the bottom of the Window menu, do you see Show All Menu Items?

  • Dissolves made in Premiere CS4 lost in "bridge" to After Effects

I have a number of video dissolves in my Premiere CS4 video.  I click on (forget the exact command since I am not in front of my After Effects computer) "replace with After Effects composition"
In after effects I see the dissolves are gone.
What is the best work flow to ensure the dissolves are retained.
    Note:  This is HDV footage.
Here is one thing I tried to do unsuccessfully:
When the replace with After Effects composition lost the dissolves, I tried just exporting the video.  I tried doing a quicktime export, but Premiere did not allow me to do a high quality HDV export.  The video was pixilated, etc.  (In After Effects I could choose Quicktime / Animation /Millions of colors" but I don't see that exact option (millions of colors or millions of colors PLUS) in the Premiere export dialogue.
I see two AVI export options.  Windows AVI and Uncompressed AVI -- would that be a better choice than quicktime?
    I have a windows pc.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

It's a bit confusing, but it's there. If in the Adobe Media Encoder dialog you get in Premiere Pro, you pick Quicktime as the Format, Animation as the codec and then set codec settings to "32 bit", it will render RGB+Alpha. Even if it doesn't state that clearly.
If you have Premiere Pro and After Effects as part of Production Premium, you can just drag the Premiere Pro sequence from PPro's project panel to AE's project panel, and this will show as a clip/layer in AE which is dynamically linked to the Premiere Pro sequence - any changes you perform in PPro are updated automatically in AE. No need to export a video file at all. But again, this doesn't work if you got PPro and AE as individual products.

  • Bridge CS4 - Lost all file associations

I run Photoshop CS4 on my desktop and notebook, Windows XP Pro.
I have lost all my file associations with bridge CS4.  If I clicked on a .jpg MS paint would start up.  It use to work before no problem.  If I reset, it does nothing.  This is happening on **both** of my machines.
I manually changed them all to PS CS4 and still the oddd time MS Paint will start and not PS.
Any ideas how to fix this?

There are 2 places to look.  One is in Bridge preferences/file associations. If that does not fix the problem in XP open Explorer Tools/Folder Options/file types.
Look to see that the default program for the file type is what you want.
    Good hunting.

  • CS4 - New layer won't show added color overlay, gradient, patterns?

I'm using CS4 Extended for a few years... its been working fine but all of a sudden my layers are blank? I've tried Google but can't find a solution. Started a new graphic for a label using a 300dpi resolution, 23.250" inches wide and 2.500" high. Filled it with Black, then attempted to create a new layer to create a semi-transparent pattern above the black. It shows up in the layers column but the actual new layer doesn't show up on the artwork workspace. I can add text in color as a new layer, but the pattern layer doesn't show. Went and tried using an existing file... old layers work fine, but try to add any new layer other than text and it doesn't show. I know this is something dumb that I somehow clicked on and I'll kick myself when somebody tells me to check.... whatever LOL.
Thanks in advance and don't laugh.

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

  • Bridge CS4 - Lost all file associations - On 2 computers

I manually selected PS CS4 but at times MS Paint still comes up and if I click the restore defaults, NOTHING happens.
Any ideas how to fix this?

I have a similar but subtle difference showing up. This morning, I clicked Open on a .psd in Bridge CS3 and got "~Photo~1" in place of a program selection. In some cases, I got this and CS4 as options. If I go to Find in Explorer, it opens. Since I have decided to wait for CS5 and the trial period is almost over, I uninstalled CS4 and did a cleanup afterwards. Now, when I go to CS3 Bridge nothing happens. Find in Explorer says it cannot open it either. So I checked File Associations and sure enough it was practically empty, saying "None" to the vast majority of file types. It even indicated None for the nef files but they do open in ACR anyway.
Since my three basic file types are Tiff, psd and nef, I got those working by re-associating them in XP. I also have a number of DNG, but haven't tried these yet.
Reading the links here, it looks like this is a real bug and since it is persistent back to CS2, has been around for a while.
I expect I will have to uninstall CS3 and do a CS cleaner and start over again.
This is on XP. I have Win7 as well, but at the moment, only CS3 there. I'll reinstall CS4 then uninstall it and see if W7 is also a problem.

  • CS4 extended Layer styles not working

Running CS4 extended on Vista64, Corei7 quad @2.9 GHz, 8 Gig Ram and nVidia quadro FX 1700. I can not get layer styles to work in documents that originated in CS3 extended. If I start a new document they work.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

Well, I ended up copying all of the layers from the old PSD to a CS4 psd and it worked. Since it is a web page it had a lot of layers and it was a major pain in the hooey... but it did work.

  • CS4 Adjustment Layer Panel - Where Is OK Icon

    1. Clicked on Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves (or, in the alternative, the Crate New Fill Or Adjustment Layer icon at bottom of Layers panel, then selected Curves (it need not have been Curves - any adjustment poses the same issue).
    2. Did my adjustment.
    3. Photoshop CS4 for Dummies, p. 363 says, "In the adjustment's dialog box, make any edits and then click OK."
    4. The book, "Using Adobe Photoshop CS4" by Adobe, also refers to the "OK."
I have examined my computer display for 40 minutes and cannot find an "OK" icon/button. Can you help me locate it? I'm aware I don't have to find it as I can just go on with my work, since the layer has been created and I know how to close the Adjustments panel, but I want to find the darn OK icon/button.
Note: I'm also aware of how to open the Window > Adjustments panel.
    Thanks.

  • Photoshop CS4 Half Layer Transparency Problem

Hello, my name is Rob. I know this might seem weird, I am still new with CS4, I've been using Photoshop CS for a few years now and just switched to CS4 a few days ago, but I have a problem. When I make a new "work" (when you go File->New) the next thing I'll get is a transparent layer cut in half on diagonal. I don't know if this is a feature of CS4, a setting or a bug, or maybe something that went wrong at installation. I need some help.
I included some pictures to let you have a look.
(If I do save the image, it is fully displayed. I find this very inconvenient because I don't know where should I put the text/images.)
(Sorry for the noobish image, just wanted to show you my problem.)

  • Photoshop CS4 transparent layer only, no picture.

When I open a jpg, bmp or any other picture file in photo shop all that appearsis the checkerboard tranparent layer. Thee is no picture to edit. What is wrong with photoshop? It also takes forever for the blank transparent picture to load.  Windows Vista.

I found the solution after trying everything else including completely uninstalling Photoshop and deleting the files it left behind, then reinstalling did not work either. I then copied the color settings and PSP files from another computer, started Photoshop, opened a picture and everything is working fine now.
I would suggest anyone else with this problem just needs to get a copy of the files from someone else and or keep a back up of the PSP and color settings in a back-up folder as I have now. Adobe should consider a restore feature that automaticaly saves restore points. There are likely other Adobe CS4 programs that also  need to back up settings.

  • Bridge CS4 - lost panels on right side

For some reason I lost the panels on the right side of the window in the essentials view. Even the thumbnails do not completely display on the right hand side. (XP PRO)
I have checked preferences, but do not see an option to change this display.
    Screen capture is http://www.pbase.com/choco1/image/109819689
    Suggestions?

Curt, this is a version of the same problem I am having.
Mogur203, if you also click on View and Grid Lock, let me know if this setting also disappears.

  • Can anyone help me find my lost layer styles and photo effects in the Effects Panel?

I am using the trial version of Photoshop Elements 9. I downloaded and tried to install a glitter style. When I went back to my workspace I had no layer styles or photo effects in the Effects panel....not one. The filters are the only ones there now. What have I done?

Quit the editor, then go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\9.0\Locale\en_US (or your location) and delete mediaDatabase.db3. When you restart the editor, give it time to rebuild the panel contents before you try to use PSE.

  • PSE 6 - Lost Layer Styles & Photo Effects

I am running PSE 6 on two computers. For some reason, I cannot access layer styles or photo effects in the Editor on only one of the computers. I have run the "repair" function within the software - no fix. I have restarted several times - no fix. I have reset Tools - no fix. (You'll notice I get more desparate as I go along ... ) I have re-set Program Preferences - no fix. I have even tried copy/paste with the files from the working computer to the non-working computer ... C: Program Data/Adobe/PSE/6.0/locale/en_US  copying both Photo Creations and Photo Creations Metadata. Nope, that didin't work either. I've searched google for a solution to no avail. Nothing happened (that I know of) to "upset" the program. I am running PSE 6.0 on Vista 32 bit.
    Please help??!
    Thanks in advance,
    Roberta

I know you said you did a copy/paste job on the folders but try renaming the mediadatabase.bd3 file and rebuilding it.
See post #3 (XP) or post #9 (Vista) in the link below for instructions on how.
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39312
Note: The application data folder is a hidden folder...but you already know that since you did the copy/paste. I've seen a few post that indicate it might take 10 minutes after launching for your styles and effects to rebuild.
You might also try holding in the Shift key as you launch elements. In older versions, this made the preview cache rebuild...not sure if this is still true but worth a try. Again wait about 10 minutes after launching to see if your effects and styles rebuild after launch.

  • Flash CS4 - lost characters during font embedding

Does anybody know how to force Flash to embed all needed
    characters when
creating font symbol? When embedded font is used in text
    fields instead of
device fonts a lot of characters stop to be accessible. Is
    Flash limited to
use only with a couple of languages? What about rest of them?
    Regards,
    Marek

    Hi Sean,
    > Are you embedding the font in Flash or in AS3?
Physically in Flash but in order to see the effect of using
    it is necessary
to turn on embedFonts=true in TextField.
    > In Flash you should be able to
    > click on the "Character Embedding..." button on the
    properties panel when
    > the
    > TextField is selected. Note that the TextField has to be
    dynamic. The
    > character
    > embedding dialog has several options for what to embed,
    all, upper/lower
    > case,
    > punctuations and the include characters field which
    allows you to specify
    > specific characters for embedding.
If you turn on size reporting you will be able to see what
    exactly fonts are
embeded. I recommend you to enter some characters in
    "Character Embedding"
and export SWF. You will see all of those characters. Now add
    font symbol to
the library using the same font. You will see in the report
    that Flash will
ignore everything what you previously have entered. All
    embedded characters
this is always the same character set. There are no a lot of
    characters used
    in European languages.
