CS4 Mac Activate - Two Questions

1. How can you tell if you successfully activated?
I installed without a network connection, and opened the apps in that state, but didn't see anything about activation. I expected a prompt, since I installed without a network connection, but didn't receive one. That's fine, I suppose.
I've since connected to the internet, and downloaded updates via Adobe updater. The docs with CS4 suggest that activation will happen invisibly when I'm connected, so I'm assuming I'm good now, but I'd like to see something before making a backup of my system drive with superduper.
2. Has anyone had to reactivate after restoring a system drive ON THE SAME MACHINE from something like superduper?
I make sparse image files, and then use the Leopard installer to restore from them, and that's been fine with all my other activated products (native instruments, ik multimedia, ableton, etc.). Just wondering if that's going to remain the case with CS4.
This is with Creative Suite 4, Design Premium on Mac Pro, running Leopard 10.5.5.
Thanks in advance.
Take care,

Thanks, but as I said, I've already connected to the web, and installed updates.
What I'm looking for is some artifact that says I successfully activated.
Because of cost, I only upgrade adobe apps every 4-5 years, so I'm a bit out of the loop, but their "old" activation scheme actually asked you if you wanted to activate.
I was asked, during the install, if I wanted to install the "demo" version, which I declined since I purchased the entire product.
What I need to know is:
In 30 days, am I going to be presented with a "you're not activated prompt," or not.
This is a family Christmas gift, and I'd really hate to find out that 30 days from 5 days ago, my wife is going to ask me why her Christmas gift (a $600 upgrade) isn't working.
Odd that there's no "activated" section on any of the "About ***" pages in the various apps. That's such a tiny thing to expect, and IMO something along those lines is required. Why make your customers wonder if they're ok?
Have Adobe out-sourced their activation or something?
I FAR prefer to actually know whether I'm activated or not. Seems silly (and unprofessional) to be confused about so trivial a thing.

  • Two questions about my new Mac Pro

Just got my new Mac Pro up and running and have two questions (issues)
First, I had to buy the DVI to ADC Display adapter to hook up my Cinema Display but now I can't turn the computer on from the monitor like I use to. Is that right? It's no big deal to have to turn it on at the computer itself, just wondering if anybody else is having this happen.
Also, the audio out at the back of the computer doesn't work. I've tried plugging in my speaker as well as my headset and nothing. If I plug either of those into the headset jack in the front of the computer all is well. Any thoughts?
Otherwise, I sure do love my Mac Pro!
    Thanks.

I had to buy the DVI to ADC Display adapter to hook up my Cinema Display but now I can't turn the computer on from the monitor like I use to. Is that right?
ADC has pins for power control and the power light. DVI does not have these signals so the display's power button cannot turn on the computer when used with a DVI to ADC adapter.

Hello, I have two questions on time capsule  I can only have it on my external hd files and free up my internal memory to my mac  I can use an external hard drive, in my case a lacie rugged as shared memory for my two computers

I have a mackbook pro and an iMac if I buy a time capsule 2tb airport, I can use it with time machine and what would be the best way to use it.
There is no particular setup required for TM.. both computers will create their own backup sparsebundle which is like a virtual disk.. Pondini explains the whole thing if you read the reference I gave you.
and how to use time capsule airport whit other external hd to use my old lacie airport with the new time capsule
Up to you.. you can plug the external drive into the TC and enjoy really slow file transfers or you can plug it into your computer and use it as external drive.. which is faster than the TC.. and TM can include it in the backup.
Again everything is explained in the reference.. you are not reading it.

  • CS4 One Designer, Two PCs (One Mac, One Win)

We need our designer to work on both Mac and PC. So far, we worked mostly on press items, but now we are getting into the interactive development are. Our head designer needs to do the creative work on a Mac but also review and adjust on his Windows PC before submiting the file to the developers.
The designer will NEVER work on both PCs at once. We already own a license for CS4 Mac and several CS4 Win, but find unfair to have to buy an additional CS4 Win just for this case. If it was another Mac, we could do the install as long the the 2 installations are never used simultaneouslly.
Any idea on how to solve this?

Well, as you know, you can install on up to two systems of the same platform, so long as you dont use them at the same time...
But section 2.10 of the Adobe CS4 licensing agreement (section 2.11 for CS5) is pretty clear that you can't mix-and-match across platforms.
You might inquire with Adobe customer support if they can help you in any way, but that's the way it is right now, for everyone.

    Thanks Roland

There actually is a type of "pointer" native to iOS. it's part of the AssistiveTouch feature,  used to replicate multitouch gestures with one finger. You just can't control it with a mouse.
Anyway, as far as I can discern the iPad does not use nanotechnology in any part of its construction.

  • Two Questions about Airport Express

All, I am a recent convert to using a Mac so bear with me.
I have two questions about the Airport Express.
Question if I buy one in the USA, I will visiting this week on holiday, can I use it the UK with a UK adaptor/apple plug?
Can the Express be used with my current wireless network, using a Netgear DG834G V4, I have read lots in the forums about putting a $ sign in front of the WPA password?
Any help and advice gratefully received.

Yes, but at least two things to consider:
o The US version of the 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) only supports radio channels 1-11 in the 802.11g radio mode. Channels 12-14, used in other countries outside the US will not be available.
o The AXn supports both the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio bands for 802.11n. The 5 GHz band is restricted in certain countries (like the UK) so operating in this mode may get you unwanted attention.
That should be okay then because the Netgear broadcasts on channels 1-11. I hadn't appreciated the 5 Ghz band, but having checked both US and UK Apple sites the techspecs both mention 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz.
Can the Express be used with my current wireless network, using a Netgear DG834G V4, I have read lots in the forums about putting a $ sign in front of the WPA password?
If your intent is to have the AXn join the Netgear as a wireless client, then yes it should work. The "$" requirement was for WEP. This shouldn't be necessary for WPA or WPA2.
I intended to use the AXn as an range extender, but you mention wireless client, is that something different?

  • Two questions about SG300 DHCP server

    Hi,
I have two questions about the DHCP server on the SG300:
On the Address Binding page, what does the "Declined" state mean? I have a NAS device that won't pull an address, and I think that the entry with a state of "Declined" corresponds to this device. It was previously pulling an address from a RV180, so the only difference is that it is now connected to the SG300. I worked around this by manually setting the address on the NAS device, but this won't scale if I run into a lot of other devices that can't pull an address.
I configured a static address binding for a WAP321 and found that instead of pulling the configured address that it pulled a dynamic address. I checked the Address Binding page and see that the dynamic entry that corresponds with the WAP321 has a Client Identifier rather than a MAC address. I changed the static entry for the WAP321 to use the client identifier displayed in the dynamic entry, and now the WAP321 pulls the configured static address. Is this expected behavior?
    Thanks,
    Bob

With the SX300/500 it is required the client identifier, it doesn't automatically insert it. If static DHCP is made on the switch and you didn't need client identifier, that is more or less fortunate behavior for you
So to answer this question, the expected behavior is to configure client identifier for static DHCP entry.

  • Two questions about the new iWeb

    Hi
I've got two questions about the new iWeb.
    1. Is it possible to blog online now? Meaning adding a new blog entry without having to be on your own Mac? This is a feature I've been waiting for since iWeb first was released.
    2. Is it possible to choose the format of images? Earlier editions had the option to "optimize" images but that meant it changed it into .png meaning the site got a lot heavier than if .jpg was used. And since I have relatives who still only have an isdn connection I need to be able to have the website as light as possible.
    thanks

Ah well... thanks for the quick answer

Hi All, I have two questions. First of all my CS3 is saying that it is installed on more than one machine, is there a way of seeing what machines my serial number is registered to? If i want to buy another CS3 serial number how do i go about it? I cannot afford to move to the creative cloud.....

there's no way for you to identify which machines have or had cs3 activated, and you can no longer purchase a cs3 license from adobe.
you can request an activation count reset (Contact Customer Care) and deactivate your cs3 on all your computers.  you can then install and activate on up to two computers.

  • Printing, Soft Proofing & Color Management in LR 1.2: Two Questions

Printing, Soft Proofing, and Color Management in LR 1.2: Two Questions
There are 2 common ways to set color management in Adobe CS2:
    1. use managed by printer setting or,
    2. use managed by Adobe CS2 program.
I want to ask how Color Management for Adobe LR 1.2 differs from that in CS2?
As is well known, Color Management by printer requires accurate printer profiles including specific model printer, types of ink and specific paper. It is clear that this seems to work well for LR 1.2 when using the Printer module.
Now lets consider what happens one tries to use Color Management by Adobe LR 1.2. Again, as is well known, Color Management by printer must be turned off so that only one Color Management system is used. It has been my experience that LR 1.2 cant Color Manage my images correctly. Perhaps someone with more experience can state whether this is true or what I might be doing to invalidate LR 1.2 Color Management.
Specifically, I cant use Soft Proofing to see how my images are changed on my monitor when I try to use the edit functions in LR 1.2. Martin Evening states in his text, The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Book that it is not possible to display the results of the rendered choices (Perceptual or Relative) on the display monitor. While it is not clear in Evenings text if this applies to LR 1.2, my experience would suggest that it still applies to the 1.2 update even though the publication date of his book preceded this update.
Can someone with specific knowledge of Adobe LR 1.2 confirm that Color Management and Soft Proofing with LR 1.2 hasnt been implemented at the present.

    Thanks,
    Hersch Pilloff

    Hersch,
since just like me, you're a physicist (I am just a little further from retirement ;) ) I'll explain a little further. computer screens (whether they are CRT or LCD) are based on emission (or transmission) of three colors of light in specific (but different for every screen) shades of red, green, and blue. This light stimulates the receptors in your eye which are sensitive to certain but different bands of red, green and blue as the display emits, making your brain think it sees a certain color instead of a mix of red green and blue. Printers however, produce color by modifying the reflection of the paper by absorbing light. Their color mixing operates completely differently than displays. When you throw all colors of ink on the paper, you get black (the mixing is said to be subtractive) instead of white as you get in displays (the mixing there is additive). The consequence of this is that in the absence of an infinite number of inks you cannot produce all the colors you can display on a monitor using a printer and vice versa. This can be easily seen if you compare a display's profile to a printer profile in a program such as Colorsync utility (on every mac) or
Gamut vision. Typically printers cannot reproduce a very large region in the blue but most displays on the other hand cannot make saturated yellows and cyans.
Here is a flattened XY diagram of a few color spaces and a typical printer profile to illustrate this. Most displays are close to sRGB, but some expensive ones are close to adobeRGB, making the possible difference between print and screen even worse.
So, when the conversion to the printer's profile is made from your source file (which in Lightroom is in a variant of prophotoRGB), for a lot of colors, the color management routine in the computer software has to make an approximation (the choice of perceptual and relative colorimetric determine what sort of approximation is made). Soft proofing allows you to see the result of this approximation and to correct specific problems with it.

Thanks Liam. After the second ap download it asked me three security questions on iTunes and on my MAC it allowed me to set up these with no error on the third question. iPAD 3 now downloads apps fine.
Apple really need to sort out this issue or provide guidance on this. Two days of the unit not really being fit for purpose - what use is an IPAD without the ability to download aps.
Also NO Response from Apple via online tech support and it's now been nearly 24 hours - I was told by telephone support I would get a response within 24 hours or less, as also stated in the email response too!??
It would be good to get a formal response from Apple on this rather than radio silence.

    Hi,
IChat uses better Video Compression than Skype does.
On a top flight Mac you can send a 640 X 480 pixel frame up to 30 frames a sec.
    Skype can't match this.
iChat in Video is Peer to Peer. (you can actually Log out of the Buddy list)
Skype seems to borrow something from everyone's bandwidth to make connections.
What do you mean by Business account Tracking ?
iChat Adds (or can add) the First Name, Last Name of your Buddies and create an Address Book Entry
Whether you mark those cards connected with a  company is up to you.
(I have heard of issues with earlier version of iChat and the Address Book that "saw" the Company Name as the part of the Name and linking several Screen Names to the one name
Audio on a Mac using Skype tend to be the same as the streaming needs are less.
However you have to rely on any PCs audio abilities from PCs which may not be to the same standard.
Mac to PCs in iChat and AIM can be difficult though.  (It should work but it rarely as simple as Plug and go)
Skype may suit your needs better on ocassions.

Thanks for your reply--makes me not want to get involved with Mavericks, and I appreciate the heads-up.  What I hadn't thought about is that by upgrading my OS I would also have to upgrade from my Adobe CS1.  Since I'm retired from my art career, I'm reluctant to spend the dough on new CS; but I still like using PhotoShop and InDesign (and obviously don't care that they are outmoded).  But I'll bet any newer Mac OS won't run my old software.
