CS4 Motion Menus

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but in CS4 (Vista 64bit) it take around an hour to render 7 motion menus that run for 53secs.  If I make the exact same project in CS3 (XP Pro 32bit) they take 3 minutes! (Not direct from timeline - but from m2v and wav so the commonality is the same.  Booting is from different drives in the same computer.)
Has anyone else had this issue - and more importantly - what's the solution?  I'm guessing it's simple but I can't find it, and it's a pain having to keep re-booting the compuer in order to swap between the two every time I make a DVD.
Thanks
Mike

That's right. CS4 simply behaves different to CS3!
I have never had to render out a menu to preview it. We only create motion menus for Blu-ray and only use highlight layers from Photoshop. In CS3, when you right clicked on a menu in Encore and clicked "simulate from here", you would see your highlight layers over the video immediately.
NOW, with CS4, you must render out the menu after clicking "simulate from here" to see it. VERY annoying but I'm sure Adobe did this for a good reason.
Pop-up menus I am glad to report actually work! We haven't figured out how to create motion pop-up menus yet but I suspect this is not available yet in Encore.
If anyone knows any differently, I'd love to hear it.
What's fixed and I'm SO GLAD is that during simulation, the SKIP FORWARD chapter button WORKS!!! In CS3, you had to pause the video and then could skip forward. Now, like any other normal program, while the video is playing, you can skip forward.
I would thank Adobe for fixing this but, let's face it, this just should have worked in CS3!

  • Photoshop file error when rendering motion menus in Encore CS4

    Hello
I hope someone can help me please?
I've successfully (after 3 attempts) managed to import my PP project into Encore, created the menus etc from the presets that come with Encore (Wedding Garden menu).  When it comes to rendering the motion menus with the animated buttons option checked, after a couple of seconds it comes up with a Runtime C error - photoshop file (508) i think it is and it crashes.
It's a new system CS4, Windows 7 64bit, 2x2.40ghz quad core processor, 24gb ram, nvidfia 285 2gb graphics card - do you need to know anything else?
I've rendered the motion menus without ticking the animate buttons option on the 3 menus I have (it's a wedding dvd - main menu and 2 sub menus with animated thumbnails) and its worked.  This is ok as a workaround but I'd really like to be able to have the menu thumbnails animated.
    Many thanks

Thanks v much i'll certainly give that a try -
if it helps - I managed to make a note of the error message after I had sent my initial posting on this topic.

  • Blu-ray Motion Menus in Encore CS4

Okay. Just upgraded to Encore CS4 from CS3. Few nice changes.
Have crashed about 10 times (in one hour) doing simple things like, assigning folders, playing video, adding menus. Can anyone say maintenance release???
    Here's a question...
WHY CAN'T I SEE THE VIDEO I HAVE ASSIGNED TO A MENU WHEN I SIMULATE?
This was working in CS3 now it's NOT in CS4. Tried on two different machines, one with ATI card an the other with nVidia!
    ADOBE... are you there???

  • Encore CS4 crash on render motion menus

When I first installed Encore CS4 (Windows 64-bit computer), it crashed every time I rendered my motion menus. I found a thread on this forum from 2009 that discussed this issue, and installed the Roxio patch (or whatever it was called)--that was the recommended solution. After that, render motion menus worked fine so I thought the problem was fixed.
But over the past few weeks, it has started happening again--intermittently at first. But today, every time I go to render a motion menu--with different PSD and MPEG-2 files--it crashes every single time. I am beyond frustrated.
What should I do? Since Encore has rendered motion menus fine for the past few months for me, I'm doubting that it's the Roxio issue. I read somewhere that profiles can get corrupted and can be reset. But I have no idea how to do that. So before I start screwing around with stuff, I figured I would come here and see if anyone has any ideas for me.
    Thanks for your help.

    Here's what I might try.
Start new project (probably after restarting my machine for good measure).
Open a library menu with motion.
    Render. Does that work?
If so, I'd look a bit harder at the motion assets. Try an old project that worked, and bring those assets into a new project for motion.
I'd try reinstallng the roxio patch, if it fixed this before. (I don't think was what it was intended to fix, but I wouldn't argue.)
If none of that works, I'd consider a repair install. See number 1 here:

  • Blu-Ray Motion menus don't work!

    Hey Gang,
I posted this issue before but since I received a very limited response, I'm hoping that someone will respond to this simplier issue.
I created a empty blu-ray project. I placed the Encore Crib Motion Menu HD into the project. The menu provided NO motion even after rendering.
I then created a standard DVD project and performed the exact same steps. The motion menu now works.
    I'm running a system with Vista 32 loaded & CS3.
Anyone get the motion menus to work in Blu-Ray?
Please let me know. It will take a minute to duplicate my project.
BTW, I have tried this on two seperate system yielding the same results.
    Thanks!

  • Encore CS4 Motion Menu Render Issue

I am trying to create a menu with background video. Here is my workflow:
I import my video and audio seperately as assets.
I open a blank menu from the library.
I click the "motion" tab for my menu and drag the "video" string over to my .avi file. All good.
I then drag the "audio" string over to my .wav file. All good.
After this I create my own basic buttons by switching to text and convert my text to buttons.
I then link my buttons to the other menus and timelines.
Then I go to File>Render>Motion Menus. Everything is fine until it gets  to 1723 of 1916 frames. Then it just stops. It doesn't crash it just stops at 1723 frames. My "elapsed time" and "time remaining" continue. I let it go for over 45 minutes with no results.
I went back to ppro and checked the lenght of my video in frames and it's only 1626 frames???
The avi is exported from ppro cs4 as a microsoft avi. It is only a minute in length.
I have deleted this project and started a new one. same thing.
I tried re-exporting the video from ppro. same thing.
I even started a completely fresh project in ppro and then yet another new project in encore. This time it stopped at 1729 of 1922 frames. The length in ppro is 1538 frames???
I've tried and re-tried over and over again today and sometimes I'll get an "Unspecified Drawing Error".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"Can you Open your Menu in PS, and then twirl open the Button Layer Sets, and do a screen-cap? There might be something obvious there - or maybe not."
-- I'm not sure what you mean by "Button Layer Set". I just created a new layer, selected the text tool and typed whatever I wanted the button to read. I added the (+) at the beginnning so encore could recognize it but it didn't so I converted it to a button in encore. I assume this is incorrect?
I am not using any motion thumbnails.
I am exporting as video only but when I export as a Microsoft AVI, PPro doesn't give me the Multiplexing tab:
Thanks Bill. I am a newbie so this is all trial and error for me. Hope this helps you help me.

  • File Not Found when rendering motion menus

I'm rendering motion menus in CS4. Most of them are successfully rendered but two haven't rendered yet: "FAQ A 13" and "FAQ A 14". When the rendering process gets about 3/4 of the way through FAQ A 13, I get "File Not Found" error.
There is no indication in the error box of WHICH file was not found (thanks Adobe). It doesn't seem like it can be 13, since it already successfully found 3/4 of the file. But I'd be surprised if it was 14 because 13 should have taken another 15-20 seconds of rendering before 14 was attempted.
Anyone experienced something like this and have some insight?
    Thanks

Solved it (sort of): I chose a different transcode preset to force a re-transcode of the video background. Re-rendering motion menus was successful after that.
Strange though that the transcoded file was corrupted/missing (it was fresh as I had imported the asset this session).
Also strange that Encore would transcode background assets to mpeg2 before rendering the motion menu; wouldn't it have to recompress to mpeg2 after compositing the additional elements, and lose quality?

  • Error Message: Motion menus exceed maximum duration

Our iDVD has one Main Menu with Nine Submenu's. We used the Reflections Theme. All these have motion menus, for consistency. Each is set at a loop duration for audio of no more than 45 seconds. [10X45=450 secs or 7:30 mins]. The menu screeen allows for 8 image drop zones. We put a photo in each zone, and they scroll by repeatedly behind the menu titles/text.
[Each of the Nine Submenus contains one slideshow and one sub-submenu. These sub-submenus are not motion menus.]
When we go to burn the disc, we get the error message above. Our duration on the Best Performance setting is 29:53 mins vs. the allowed 7:30 mins.
Questions: Why does Project Info show motion menu duration at 29:53? Is there a way to reduce that by, for example, limiting the number of times the pictures loop behind the text in that theme? Or, should we be using Best Quality rather than Best Performance? (Note: the images are more important than the sound in this DVD.)
Mac OSX   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Mac OSX   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Mac HD   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

We couldn't figure out how to turn the motion off on the submenus. How did you do it?
Unfortunately, I've deleted that project, but... You should be about to click on the Menus button and move the top slider (Loop Duration) all the way to the left. I think that does it. I also had to eliminate music too. I don't think clicking on the Motion button on the main window does it.

  • Templates with motion menus flicker

I have Encore CS6. If I use any of the templates from the library there is a very noticeable around the text on the menu. It's irritating to the point that I cannot use motion menus at all.

Yes, the m2v motion background. This results in the menu being rendered and increases the chances for changes.
I just haven't seen this, and can't imagine what would cause this from an unchanged template.
Is it only the chapter menu? Or all menus?
As an experiment, I'd remove the motion background, or perhaps better, I'd create a new project, pull in one of the offending menus, no motion, add a single timeline, and see if the problem is there. Looking to narrow down the problem.

  • Motion Menus won't display video or pics!!!

I have a dual 266 ghz "Macintel" with the latest OS and I'm running DVDSP 4.0.3
Quite recently, motion menus in DVDSP won't show video or still pics placed into their respective "drop zones"... and when I "simulate" the disk in the software, they don't display there either.
I tried reinstalling DVDSP, I tried repairing permissions, I tried trashing the .plist, I tried an archive & install of the O.S. (and running the online update).
Nothing is working. What do I do????
How do I get my motion menus functioning again?

Grunze, I need to ask if you've found the answer to this dilemma? I've exhausted all I know how to do... short of reinstalling from my system disk... and NOT updating to the latest version of the O.S.
Something CHANGED when I updated to 10.4.9 that broke my motion menus.
I can't believe that not many people are experiencing this. I've got a clean system with only the standard kind of software you'd find on a graphic designer's computer... Apple iLife apps, and the Adobe CS2 apps... Font Agent Pro... not much else.
How is it nobody else is having this problem?

  • Stop motion menus altogether

I hate the motion menus. Hate them. I want simple straightforward non-moving graphics. I will use the one's Apple provides and have tried to stop the motion but they still move. I've dragged the slider to 0 for any menu that has motion yet they still do some movement, albeit less than before. I just want plain, easy to read menus/themes.
I know I can replace the graphics with my own. I don't want to do that. I want the ones Apple provides to not move. At all. (And there are some that also add their own sound effects even though I've killed the audio on them too.)
    Thank you.

I see that it, in this case, can be green, or grey like the rest of the app. Does green mean there is motion? (i would think so.) It was grey before I clicked it. Setting it to green didn't kill the motion. Nor does grey.
I picked out all the simple, appealing themes I could find but many still have motion. The one's I didn't pick that may not have motion were too ugly to use. I am using Brushed Metal 1 for this project and even though it doesn't have a motion logo (that man again) it still has motion. I see that the graphic for the background is a movie as well so even though the motin menus are set at zero, there is still some motion in that movie, alas.
There isn't something else I do? A box to uncheck? Would dragging the movie for the graphic out and back in from its well do anything good? (Replacing it would but I don't want to create graphics, yet... Maybe I'll have to)

  • Flash Video with DVD-like motion menus -- Is this possible?

    Hi all,
I just joined this gropup. I have some SMIL 2.0 presentations
with synchnorized multiple audio (several languages supported) and
video as well as DVD-like still and motion menus. These are
semi-transparent menus and actually are super-imposed over main
playback area (root layout in SMIL).
Can Flash Video has menus in it?
Can this type of a/v synchronization and menuing be done in
    Flash Video?
I don't want to write as SWF with menus since clips and # of
menus on screen and placement might be different from video to
video. These are for some training videos.
To give a background, in SMIL I have an application server
(Jboss) which is dynamically creating SMIL based upon database,
user inputs and menu selections. What is basically sent back to the
browser is SMIL page markup including playlist of clips up to next
menu point. Once all clips are watched and user selects menu button
to continue then a new SMIL is generated and processs repeated.
I am thinking off porting this over to Flash Video because
currently clients need RealPlayer (has SMIL 2.0) support to be
downloaded and installed. Another local app to manage!
    Any ideas or recommendations?
    Thanks and kindest regards,
    -Mark

You can build interactive DVDs with video and audio, but no Word documents (at least not as part of the interactivity). DVD SP can certainly be used to create interactive DVDs. The advantage is that interactivity will extend to DVD players, not just computers.
If you want very rich interactive content, with Word docs, PDFs, etc. Then the best program would be Director. However there are some caveats with Director.
    1) The learning curve for Director is extremely steep. You would be better off hiring a freelancer who already knows the program, then spending all the time learning all the ins and outs of the program.
    2) Director is essentially a dead program. Since Adobe acquired it a couple of years ago, they have made no upgrades of the program. Nor have they made any announcements on continued development.
    3) The content you develop will only be playable on computers, not DVD players.

  • Having trouble with buttons in motion menus

I'm having some problems with buttons in motion menus:
    - I've created a motion menu where some text (button names) fade in.
    - I set a loop point after the text has faded in completely.
    - I set the end condition to "loop"
(there is some animation after the text fades in that I would like to loop)
    - I draw out 5 buttons and assign different overlay colors to each of the button states.
The problem is that each time the motion menu jumps back to its loop point.. the menu seems to stutter - the overlay color on the currently selected button turns off for a second and the button is momentarily disabled (can't be selected). This problem only shows up on the actual dvd build. The buttons work smoothly when tested in the simulator.
I can avoid this problem by losing the animation and just setting the end condition to "still".. but I was wondering if anyone knows if there is something I might have missed or could try as a workaround.
    17" powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

This problem only shows up on the actual dvd build. The buttons work smoothly when tested in the simulator.
It could be how the DVD is reading the DVD (sort of the nature of DVD, everything is not exactly the same), because buttons will not show until the loop point and there may be a slight pause from end of animation in the menu to the loop point. And the overlay will turn off briefly when it hits the end.
Visually what you can do is make the animation in a manner so that at the loop point the buttons are part of the background itself and make sure your loop point is at that point (or slightly after) so it looks like the button is there.
For the most part the setting of still may work okay (really a creative call), sometimes listening to the same music/seeing samee animation may be too much (of course it depends on project) and you can jump to the loop point on the menu on subsequent calls

  • Motion Menus not playing properley

I'm creating a dvd with quite a few submenus. I've chosen the 5.0 theme sliding panes where 7 photos slide across the screen. Although some of the menus work properley the majority just load up on the last two photos and do no show the other photos moving across the screen. I was wondering how to fix this. I have checked in my project info that my motion menus do not exceed the limit (it reads 6.38 of 15.00 and is green.)
    Lara

Leave your current project alone for a while. And open a new project with less content (3 mins. or less) but use the very same menu and add different images.
Do you still get the same results with that particular menu selection or not?
Post back and let us know what you have tried so far.

  • Motion menus - are there any other kind?

    Hello
I am creating a DVD of a memorial service and have chaptered all 15 elements of the service. When I try to burn the DVD, it says that I have too much content in my motion menus.
Question 1: Is there a menu/chapter screen available that DOESN'T require the motion, or that will allow more than 6 chapters per screen (so that I only have to have two instead of three)? I'd be more than happy to have a menu screen with no movement on it.
Question 2: If I can get rid of the motion screens, will it help reduce the size of the DVD at all? I am going to have to burn this on a double layer disc because it is three minutes too long... There isn't anything else to cut out, however.
All I need is a chapter menu that will allow people to go to the part of the service they want to watch... nothing fancy. I didn't even add any picture content in the chapter screens - just video in the main menu screen. (I'm using the western theme for the main menu and the Movie projector theme for the chapter menus).
    Thanks for your help!!

Keep in mind not all DVD Players will read DL Media (especially older set top players).
Stay w/in the TV Safe area (shown below). And yes you can have No motion. And it will help .... (see the check box in the hi-lighted area right above the slider)
What about something like this? Might this work for you?
    By sdmacuser at 2007-09-30
Changing a motion button to a still image
You can remove the motion effect on a button and make the button show a still image.
To remove the motion effect from a button:
Click the button to select it.
In the Movie pane that appears (shown above), click the checkbox to remove the checkmark.
To change the image on the button, drag the slider until you see the image you want.
Click somewhere else in the menu to close the Movie pane.
