CS4 'my documents' folder change

Hello helpful keyboard strokers,
Due to a change in servers at our Planetarium, I am now having troubles with CS4 PP and the AME.  It would appear that my computers' my documents' folder was located on the old server; when PP loads, it can't find it and makes a temp folder someplace else and then loads fine.  When I try to export into AME it attempts to start to encode, but then I get this message 'PProheadless Debug Event - PProheadless has encountered an error.
[..\..\scr\directoryregistry.cpp-283]
So, simple question, hopefully, simple answer, how can I change the location of where CS4 is looking?  Our IT is taking it's sweet time with fixing all the glitches and I am low on the list.  I don't even remember picking 'my documents' when I installed CS4, but I guess I did.  What I would like is to change the location to one of my scratch disks; which makes more sense to me (avoiding the server location and time lag in access).
I can't seem to find where in CS4 to do this?  Should I re-install and change the location at that time or does any know of a quicker access path?
Thanks for any help or suggestions and I will continue to play cards until the IT guys answer my calls....
Cam

I would like an answer to this question as well.  I simply want the Adobe folder OUT of "My Documents".
Thanks for any advice you can offer,

  • "Documents" folder is suddenly locked, can't change HELP!!

    Help!!
All of a sudden my Documents folder, in my home folder has a little "lock" in the icon and its marked "read only". The attributes ar "dr-xr-Sr-- " I've never seen the "S" before, no clue...
Nothing I do will change this. What could have possibly happened and better yet how do I fix this. It's the Documents folder and ALL the sub-folders. I've tried changing the permissions in Finder and it won't stick. Nothing I try seems to work and now I'm desperate.
    Please help!

As well as the advice posted above, enter the following into the Terminal:
ls -Aol drag enclosing folder into Terminal
Both instances of l in the command are lowercase Ls. Post back with the results of the command, which can be done before or after changing the permissions on the folder. The S permission in that place means that the setgid bit is set on that folder but not the execute/search right for the group. This bit causes all items created in the folder to have the same group as the folder if the underlying file system supports this feature.

  • Final Cut Pro Documents folder reappears after changing scratch disk.

After attempting to reorganize and cleanup my hard drive, I have come across the reason why I have such a random system to begin with. A while back I had the same problem, but chose to let it lie instead of fixing it. So now I'm asking for help.
I've tried to make a new folder in which all the documents, caches, and items having to do with Final Cut Studio 2 are placed, instead of having some applications' files here and others' there. But my problem is that even after changing my scratch disk location and my waveform/thumbnail/autosave locations to the new folder, every time I open up Final Cut Pro, it creates the "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder once again.
Will I have to rebase my whole organizational scheme around this stubborn issue?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
*I am running Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6.0.6).

Well, I'm really trying to simply recreate this file under another name, "Final Cut Pro," instead of "Final Cut Pro Documents," and therein lies the problem, because it creates this folder by default. Right now I've got everything saving to my "Final Cut Pro" folder as my scratch disk location, and a blank "Final Cut Pro Documents" folder that I want to delete.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • How do I change the default save location for new files in Pages back from iCloud to my Documents folder?

I just upgraded OSX to Mountain Lion and Pages to 4.2, and because OSX is syncing with my iCloud account, when I go to save a new file in Pages it defaults to try to save to my iCloud account rather than giving me the folder structure on my hard-drive that I prefer. It requires two extra steps to save to the proper place in my Documents folder on my hard drive.
Is there a way to reset the default so that when I go to save a new file, the folder structure opens to the last saved folder (like it does in other non-iCloud applications) rather than defaulting to my iCloud, and to do it without just removing documents from my iCloud account entirely?
I checked the Preferences for both Pages and iCloud and found nothing about this.

What I meant is turn off Documents and Data in iCloud in OS X. Keep it on on your iOS devices. iCloud will sync documents between the iOS devices and make them available on the iCloud web site, but it won't mess up iWorks' open and save dialog boxes. It also won't assume that you want all your documents in iCloud, which I think is undesirable anyway.
Keep iOS and OS X separate, and use the web site to move files between the two as necessary.
iOS iWork is different from OS X iWork. There are fewer fonts on an iOS device. iOS iWork programs have slightly different feature sets than OS X iWork programs, and the file formats are different. iCloud automatically converts the file format when necessary, but if you make a habit of saving things directly to iCloud, you are limited to the lowest common denominator between the two versions of iWorks. So why would anyone want iWork on the Mac to open and save documents on iCloud by default?
If you want to store files in the cloud and sync them on your Macs, SugarSync is a much better solution. It lets you choose your sync folders, it doesn't make you reorganize your files, it lets you sync all file types, it doesn't convert files to a different format and back, and it stores everything in the cloud, too. Just the simle act of saving a file backs it up and syncs it. I wouldn't live without it. iCloud is best with iTunes purchases and synchronizing Mac settings and iOS files; I woudln't live without it. The two make an unbeatable combination.

  • Changing the location and drive of the "Documents" folder

    Hi all,
I would like to move my "Documents" folder to a drive other than the system boot drive. Is it possible to control the location of this special folder so that when I use the sidebar to click on "documents" it goes to my data drive instead of my OS drive?
    thanks in advance!

Move your Users folder or the individual User account folders to a different drive to keep User files from competing with System files.
You can do this in 10.6 Snow leopard, one User at a time, without having to resort to CarbonCopyCloner or any Terminal commands, using this handy article:
    http://chris.pirillo.com/how-to-move-the-home-folder-in-os-x-and-why/
The procedure is first, the explanation follows.

  • I have added the Documents folder to the Dock, however when I save a document it doesn't appear in the Documents folder on the Dock, only the Documents folder in the Finder.  Is this a quirk, so am I doing something wrong?

I like having my Documents folder on the Dock so I added the Documents folder from the Finder to the Dock.  When I save a document to the Documents folder, the saved document appears in the Documents folder from the Finder and not in the Documents folder on the Dock.  Why is this happening?  And how can I change this?

Oooh. I never new that was there.

  • Mobile Documents Folder Missing in 10.7.3?

I have a 13" MacBook Air and a 27" iMac that I just did the combo update to 10.7.3.  Since I have updated, I am missing the mobile documents folder.  If I upload a pages document to icloud.com on my iMac and then go to icloud.com on my MacBook Air, it show's the file, however, it's the default pages icon, and it doesn't give me the opportunity to download it.
Because of this, I thought I'd look in the "Mobile Documents" folder and see if I can access it from there.  However not that folder is missing.  I have tried many different ways to get it to show up but I've been unable to.
I'm curious if Apple realized some people were using this folder as a "Dropbox" and disabled or further hid the folder so people can't sync files back and forth.  More importantly, why doesn't icloud.com work for me as it used to?
Anyone have this happen to them?
Anyone know of any tricks to get the Mobile Documents folder to show up in 10.7.3?
    Please help!

I can add a very related problem about this folder, after Lion 10.7.3 update.
I have a Goodreader app on my iPad and I used to use ~/Mobile Documents/.../Documents folder to transfer files
    between my Mac and iPad.
After I updated my Mac to Lion 10.7.3, this method no longer works. Changes I make on my Mac's
~/Mobile Documents/.../Documents folder are no longer sent to the iCloud server and hence not pushed to my iPad. On the other hand, changes made on my iPad's Goodreader app continue to show up on the iCloud server, but they don't get pushed to my Mac.
So I confirm that this update causes problems.

  • Saving to Windows Phone Documents Folder

    Greetings,
I tried to look through the forum but could not find anything on saving to the Windows Phone Documents folder. From what I researched online on the Windows Phone 8 it was not possible to do this as Microsoft had blocked the ability to do this due to security
reasons. But on the 8.1 release they allowed this area to be accessed by third party apps. Is this correct?
If so how do I go abouts saving to the documents folder. Basically my app is really simple I just input a couple of words into different text boxes and that should save to a text file. How do I go abouts doing this.
    I tried doing this
    StorageFolder local = KnownFolders.DocumentsLibrary;
However, when I run it the program stops at this spot:
    #if DEBUG && !DISABLE_XAML_GENERATED_BREAK_ON_UNHANDLED_EXCEPTION
                UnhandledException += (sender, e) =>
                    if
    (global::System.Diagnostics.Debugger.IsAttached) global::System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Break();
    #endif
What am I doing wrong. Thank you in advanced!!

I apologize for that I looked at it quickly on my phone. Ok so I managed to get it to save to a file. The problem is now is I want to be able to append to that same file. Is that possible?

  • Folder redirection configured in GPO does not create Documents folder and does not redirect

    Hi
Another Folder Redirect-post - sorry for that, but I could not find an answer for my problem so far: even with consulting many threads here...
We have an existing environment under Windows XP and want to move away from that. Now I ran into troubles with folder redirection...
The following folder- and permission structure exists so far:
\\<server>\<Users$-share>: This is the base folder for all users-directories
-> Permissions: SYSTEM: Full / Administrators: Full / Users: Read&Execute, only this folder
-> Share-permissions: Authenticated users: Full control
\\<server>\<Users$-share>\<username>: base folder for the specific user
-> Permissions: SYSTEM: Full / Administrators: Full / User: Change, all permissions inherited onwards
-> Giving only change permission prevent further problems with self-called "advanced users"... ;-)
\\<server>\<Users$-share>\<username>\profil.V2: Profile directory of the user
-> Of course here the permissions are set by the system: override the predefined permission
\\<server>\<Users$-share>\<username>\daten: Atcual Home directory of the user
\\<server>\<Users$-share>\<username>\daten\Documents: Suposed Documents directory of the user
Now I am going to Server 2012 and Windows 8.1, configured the GPO to redirect Documents folder into the above mentioned:
GPO - User configuration - Policies - Windows settings - Folder Redirection - Documents:
Setting: Standart - redirects all folders to the same path
Destination folder: Copy to base directory of the user
I apply policy to the user, log out and in - it doesn't work, no folder Documents created in my home-folder, Folder Documents still configured at C:\Users\<user>\Documents
    A very special point:
I also do Redirection of the My Pictures-folder: Define it to follow the Documents folder. Funnily that one works and creates and configures \\<server>\<Users$-share>\<username>\daten\Pictures
-> So in my eyes, it should work!
Then: I want to do the folder redirection without Offline Files, due to the fact, that our users work with dynamically assigned virtual desktops, which are been cleaned everytime a user logs off a machine. Therefore synchronizing doesn't make sense...
I just cannot see, why this redirection does not work :-(
Thank you very much for any help!
    Kind regards
    David

    Hi David,
Before going further, would you please let me confirm the OS version of the Windows Server which you used to
configure folder redirection? Based on your description, did you mean that those users (who will be applied folder redirection settings) logged on Windows XP client computer?
When you configure the folder redirection setting in Document Properties (path:
User Configuration-> Policies-> Windows Settings-> Folder Redirection-> Documents), please check if you checked “Also apply redirection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating system” in Settings
    tab. As below picture shows.
    à
GPO - User configuration - Policies - Windows settings - Folder Redirection - Documents:
    à•Setting: Standart
    - redirects all folders to the same path
    à•Destination
folder: Copy to base directory of the user
Would you please provide a screenshot of those settings you describe? Meanwhile, please summarily describe
that how you configure. For example, where this GPO link to? Or any other. It will help me to understand clearly. Thanks for your understanding.
    In addition, please use
gpresult command to check if the folder redirection group policy was really applied.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Saving always goes to documents folder

    Hello,
I've posted this problem before but haven't received a fix for it yet. Perhaps I'm just explaining it wrong. Simply put every time I go to save a document, instead of going to the last folder used in the program it always goes to the documents folder of the user. Also the last folder does not even show up in the drop down of the save window, only the path to the documents folder. The various programs do remember recent documents opened. But the "open file" always goes to documents, not last folder. This was not always the case, but has been for the last 6months or so and I can't seem to correct it.
I've tested the system by adding a new account and seeing if it happen there also or if it is just the one account. But the same situation exists, so it seems to be universal to this computer.
Based on previous threads this is what I've attempted so far:
    Deleted in: (myhome)/Library/Preferences
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    com.apple.launchservices.plist
    com.adobe.xxxx.plist
    com.macromedia.xxxx.plist
    ALSO Deleted : /library/caches/com.applelaunchservices-xxxx.csstore (all)
Then restarted computer. This however has not resolved the problem. I know all the work arounds of "put folder in sidebar" and what not, but that doesn't fix the problem. I want to fix this problem.
    thanks
    mark

I don't know what else you can do, nor why dialogs aren't working correctly. The Open and Save dialogs in most applications are now handled by Apple's Navigation Services, although developers can add some custom things to this basic arrangement. See this article:
    http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Carbon/Conceptual/ProvidingNavigationDi alogs/nsxconcepts/chapter_2_section2.html
    Note especially this paragraph:
"...two types of dialogs can appear—a minimal Save dialog and a full Save dialog. The minimal Save dialog, shown in Figure 1-2, is displayed the first time a user saves a document in an application. This dialog provides a text field for the user to enter a filename. Applications can optionally specify a default filename to display. The dialog has a Where pop-up menu that, by default, suggests the Documents folder for the user. The user can open the pop-up menu to choose from locations previously set in the Finder sidebar or a recently-visited location. If none of those locations are acceptable, the user can click the disclosure button to the right of the text field to access the full Save dialog."
AFAIK the user choices made are then saved to the application's plist file. A list of Recent Items is also written to the com.apple.finder.plist and to the com.apple.recentitems.plist. So if you tossed those two plist files and the application's plist file, plus the sidebar plist for good measure you should get back to the default state. You would then open a dialog, expand it to full navigation view, pick new stuff, and these changes would be written to the respective plists. If this is not happening--if the plists are not being written to--I'm afraid I don't know what else you could do.
If you've never created a test user you might do so (in System Prefs/Acconts), log in to the test user and do some opening and saving (remember you will be at the default of the simple window with the Documents as the usual default). After you've done some open and save actions see if the test user now works correctly, with your actions remembered when you go back after a logout/in. If that is the case, then there is something odd going on in your regular account.

  • User cannot access redirected Documents folder, but can connect to share in Windows Explorer and access folder on server

I am in the final stages of a cross-forest migration.  Users have Windows 7 workstations with redirected folders on a Windows Server 2012 box running in the old forest.  User accounts were not migrated.  The accounts in use have always
been in the "new" forest.  One of our challenges was the large volume of data in redirected folders.  I made sure users in the target forest had continued to have access to their redirected folders in the old forest and robocopied
the entire users share, copying the permissions with the files.  By doing incremental robocopies, we can get a final copy done now in about six hours.  The plan was simple: copy the files, do an incremental copy every night, on the night of the cutover
change the folder redirection policy Documents path from
    \\oldserver\users\%USERNAME% to
\\newserver\users\%USERNAME%. The policy is configured to NOT copy user files from the existing folder to the new redirected folder.  Everything was going well until I tested the policy change.  After the folder redirection policy is updated
and applied, the user cannot access the private Documents folder.  For example, user Chester Tester logs on as ctester.  I open Windows Explorer and click the Documents shortcut.  I see one subfolder, which is subfolder of Public Documents.
So I can look at Public Documents but when I click on the Documents folder (Under the Documents library link) I get an access denied error.  Now for the kicker, if I open another Windows Explorer window and edit the address bar to
\\newserver\users\ctester, I can navigate the Documents folder tree and see my thousands of documents. What the ....?
I'm hoping this is something really simple to fix!
    TIA

    HI Vivian,
Thank you for your reply.  Yes, the path in Group Policy Folder Redirection Root Path was updated to
\\NEWSERVER\users.  I had planned to point this to the distributed file system, so the first used was actually
\\domain\dfs\users.  To simplify things I have backed off to copying to just a normal share
    \\newserver\users.
We are using BASIC folder redirection and we create a folder for each user under the root path.
We did not want the policy to move content, as we were seeing users requiring 15-20 minute logon times  (or higher) after the policy is changed.
Grant the User exclusive right to Documents - Disabled
Move the contents of Documents to the new location - Disabled
    Related folder settings
    Video - Follow Documents
    Music - Follow Documents
    Pictures - Follow Documents
Now when I change the folder redirection from old server to new server I now have TWO My Documents folders in the user's redirection folder on the server.  The redirected Documents points to an empty folder set.  The copied folders with all user
data are there, but folder redirection refuses to recognize the original folder.
I am looking at the full view of the folder, nothing hidden, so I'm wondering how a folder can have two subfolders with the exact same name.  For now, I just want the redirection to move from the old server to the new server properly.  I deleted
the new My Documents folder, rebooted the user's workstation and tried again.  The behavior repeats itself, i.e., a new My Documents folder is always created when the redirection policy is changed from the old server to the new server.  The environment
has about 1500 users with approximately 1.3TB of data in the redirected Documents folders.  OUCH!

I'm a single user and I found that today my contents in documents folder suddenly empty. Tried recover through diskdrill (both quick scan and deep scan)
BUT NOTHING FOUND what's in my documents folder.
What would cause the contents of my "documents" folder to suddenly disappear?
Right now I'm scanning my Mac if there's any virus. I'll update soon if I found any.

There is not malware involved. It's extremely unlikely that you would have any Mac malware, though the scan may well turn up some Windows malware attached to e-mail messages or something similar.
As to what the problem is, that's hard to say. One possibility is that you have somehow accidentally moved them to a different folder. Since Spotlight does not search everywhere and could be handicapped if something is wrong with the search indices, try searching for one file whose name you know with certainty using EasyFind.
Unfortunately, whatever may have happened, if those files can no longer be found on your hard drive and cannot be found by data recovery tools, they are gone for good since you don't have any backups.

  • After saving a file using Excel 2010 in the My Documents folder, it cannot be found using the open button in Excel 2010

When certain files are saved using Excel 2010 to the My Documents folder, they cannot be found by using the Open button within Excel 2010.  But the file is always found using My Computer and following the path to My Documents.  What is
even odder is that if I do a "Save As" within Excel and rename the file to the same name but with a "!" at the beginning of the name, it will then show up in the Excel Open window.  There doesn't seem to be a distinct pattern as to
when the file can or cannot be displayed by the Excel Open button.
I am using Windows 7 64bit along with Office 2010 64bit.  Windows has current service packs and updates.  There are perhaps 200 - 400 Excel files in the My documents folder. Some of them are .XLS and some are .XLSX.

    Hi,
Do you mean that you can't find the Excel file when you click Excel->Open->My Documents folder?
Do you use the other folder path to test?
Dose the issue occur in other Office suits (Word, Power Point)?
Do you get some error message, like "Windows cannot find 'FilePath\FileName', Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."?
    Please try the following methods:
    Method1:
    1. Go to the registry. Click START, and in the RUN command line type REGEDIT and hit ENTER or click OK.
    2. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.8\Shell\Open\Command
    3. Double click on the (Default) instance over to the right. Right now this probably says something like:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /dde
    Change this value to:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE /e "%1"
    4. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Excel.Sheet.12\Shell\Open\Command
Again, double click the (Default) entry to the right and change

  • Password for a Document folder

I have not needed a pasword in the past and I remember years ago in was not possible for a P/W for a document folder.
Has there been any changes that now allow for passwords for a document ?
If not, any free apps out there for it ?
    thanks,
    Greg

Yes, you can create an encrypted folder and save files into it. Only someone with the password will be able to open the folder or its contents.

    Hi,
I am getting "An unexpected error has occurred. " error when i open Shared Document folder in Internet URL. But if i open the foder in newtab i can view the documents with out error also intranet URL also doesnt have any problem. I am using SharePoint
2007. Kindly help me resove this issue

    @Manikandan,
Can you check the ULS logs to find what is the error. The default location of log files will be C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS for MOSS 2007.
If is allowed for you to change the callstack and customerrors mode setting in the web.config then change those values to see the error.
    Find: <SafeMode CallStack="false" />
    Replace with: <SafeMode CallStack="true" />
    Find: <customErrors mode="On" />
    Replace with: <customErrors mode="Off" />
