CS4 new-style keyframing

Hi folks, just another CS4 newbie in a panic about the "new
skool" tweening. I'm sure that I'm going to absolutely love it once
it all sinks in, but at the moment, there are a few things that
strike me as odd and I'm looking for guidance...
Something I noticed last night that was different in terms of
workflow was animating consecutive objects. Imagine the following
simple storyboard:
- a photo appears on the screen and gradually grows in size
while fading out
- after that photo has completely faded out, a new photo
appears on the screen and grows in size while fading out.
Now, "old skool" I would have economized my timeline
real-estate by having both of these images on the same layer. Since
they are not visible at the same time, you can clear (delete) the
first image and drop in the second image and everything is peachy.
I found that this was not the case in CS4. Here's what
happens AFAICR:
- import first image to stage. it appears in a layer
- convert to graphic symbol
- enable motion tween on this object
- animate the object from frame 1 - 20
- I couldn't figure out how to "delete" the object other than
to Split the motion at a keyframe on frame 21 and then delete it
from the stage.
- import second picture with the new (empty) keyframe on
layer 1 at frame 21 selected (I'm expecting the picture to import
into that layer)
- a new layer is created with the picture at frame 1. Fine.
Cut it from layer 2, frame 1 and paste into layer 1 frame 21.
Delete layer 2
- convert this picture to a graphic
- apply Motion Tween
instantly the picture in this new graphic object is actually
replaced (even in the library!!) with picture 1. When I go into the
library and edit the library item and drop in picture 2, the
graphic symbol#1's picture is now changed to picture 2 as well!
Astounding.
So what's the answer here? I ended up just putting one image
per layer, but it seems to me that this will make for a horrible
mess if you're doing a manual timeline-based animation of a
sequence of images - you could potentially end up with dozens of
layers!
Thanks in advance for your insights.
Tom

Ah - I see, timeline was structured differently than I
thought.
Part A: Inserting a blank keyframe is only relevant for an
empty frame. So if you have a tween span at that frame, it cannot
be empty. If you create your initial tween span from frame 1 to
frame 40 (where you want the first tween) and then create the blank
keyframe at frame 41, you can start the second tween there. You can
even copy the properties from frame 40 and paste them on the tween
at frame 41 so the second image matches the one at frame 40. You
would Ctrl+click to select frame 40, right-click and choose Copy
Properties. Then Ctrl+click frame 41 after it's a tween span with
the second image, and choose Paste Properties.
Part B: Images cannot be imported onto tween spans, but we
should reenable it for blank keyframes and statics (this is a known
issue).
Part C: You don't want to F6 for a blank keyframe, you can F7
(or right-click) for one, and then drag your object to the Stage.
Then back to Part A for the rest of the description :) I'm not sure
about the object-based question. The tween has been removed, and
the object that was in the tween is now the static object on the
Stage. A tween has a target object, which can be removed, added,
replaced - etc. You change the properties of that object along a
tween span, which creates the interpolation/tween. You can delete
the object, and the properties remain, so you can apply a new
object to it which inherits those tweened properties (hence the
object-based tweening). Old-school tweening interpolates between
two different object instances, instead of tweening a single
instance as in new tweens. Hope that helps clarify the terminology
(although written in such a short passage... probably not...)
Another thing you could do is just split the span as you did
in the first part, and drag the instance you want to tween
(graphic, movie clip, etc) to the existing tween span without
removing it. Then if you need to align/resize the image to match,
you can copy and paste the properties from the previous one at
frame 41.
Or even easier, just import all of your assets and convert
them to movie clips with proper naming and so forth. Split the
span, and at frame 41 use swap symbol. The new image is
automatically in the tween without needing to remove or recreate
anything, and at the correct placement.

  • New styles on InDesign CS4

We were unable to identify the new styles in InDesign CS4. These styles were clearly identify in CS2/CS3 since it occurs a missing font and appears pink background.
InDesign CS4 does not show the new style with the pink background. Please help me anyone how to identify the new style.
    JA

You must be mixing up your terms; "styles" are ways to define what happens to text, but the pink highlighting appears on
any text for which the font is missing. If you have these settings, then any missing font will be highlighted pink.

  • Creating new Styles for a Blog connection

    Hi -
I've just started using Contribute CS4 to make a Wordpress blog (hosted by Wordpress for now).
I'd like to be able to create some new CSS or inline styles and reuse them appropriately throughout the blog's various entries, pages, etc, but I don't have an option to create a new Style anywhere that I can find.
Looking through help files and forums, I've seen multiple references to setting up user permissions properly (I'm Admin on my own machine), but these all seem to link through Edit -> Administer Websites (which is blank for me, I'm not creating a website). Under Blog connections I've enabled all the tick boxes for Styles, and made sure "Don't allow..." isn't selected.
Does anyone know how I get to add new styles please?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Paragraph styles dialogue is empty. I'm unable to load or create new styles and have them show up.

I've used paragraph styles in Indesign CS4 since 2009 and yesterday (6-10-14) I noticed the paragraph styles dialogue was empty. I figured somehow I must have accidentally deleted or cleared them. I then proceeded to attempt loading them from another document. After "Loading Paragraph Styles..." via the drop-down in the upper right corner of the dialogue box nothing showed up.
I then proceeded to create a new style it to never appeared in the list—it remains empty.
    Any ideas?

  • How can I apply a new style with a snippet and make DW remove artifacts of the old style?

    Hello,
I am using Dreamweaver CS5 on Windows XP SP3. My problem seems simple but the resolution remains elusive.
Let's say I am editing pasted-in text from MS Word that DW has auto-formatted. I highlight some text and use a snippet to enclose the text in h2.
Instead of deleting the former style and replacing it with h2, DW applies the h2, but copies the old style, enclosing nothing, and bumps it to the next line. If the old style included a paragraph tag, that throws in extra white space. For nothing at all.
Now, this seems like a minor thing, but it's not so minor when you are trying to quickly prepare a large document with various header styles. Having to make dozens of edits that I think should be completely unnecessary becomes a real burden.
Is there a way to enclose a bit of text in a new style with a snippet without having the old style stick around?
Thanks for any and all replies!
    Michael Salmons

Maybe auto-format is not the correct terminology, but DW does interpret MS Word formatting in some way,and in a way I cannot control (well, I can to a limited degree). The term that popped into my head describing this process was automatic formatting.
I don't really want to paste in as text, then I have to touch everything. I mean, I do frequently end up touching everything in a document anyway, but if any decisions can be "automated," I like to at least give it a try.
DW makes mostly good guesses* about Word formatting (*or whatever mechanism translates word formatting to html in DW). Even if it is just a little wrong, it saves me a lot of time. <p><strong> can be converted to <h2> faster than text that only has a CRLF to distinguish it from surrounding text.
I'm not mixing any styles. I control the style absolutely. I would just like to know how to use snippets in a way that truly replaces the Word-suggested tags rather than preserving them for no good reason. Perhaps there is no way to do that, or I so fundamentally misunderstand snippets I am fooling myself.

  • BT Yahoo mail won't switch to new style when using Firefox

I had to do a re-install as the mother board failed. I use BT Yahoo email. On the home page I get a link "switch to the newest BT Yahoo! Mail". Using I.E. the link makes it change to the new style and I can then make this the home page and it opens in new style every time. Using Firefox nothing happens other than the navigation "click" and a brief flicker and I am still on the old one.

I am glad to hear that your problem has been resolved.

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • How do i create o new style in ppages?

I would like to have a list style that adds no extra space after the line feed and another list style that adds 1/2 line after the line feed.
How do I create these new styles in Pages?
    thanks in advance,
    Ed

We no longer have line feeds because we know longer have fixed line lengths. That is why it is called a text string and it just wraps to fit.
Your model was back when the text was monospaced and there were 80 green characters per line on a black screen. I sure hope nobody is using ANSI anymore.
Irregardless of the ancient history, you are talking about paragraph returns, not line feeds, because that is the only place space after applies.
I don't have an iPad, which should be in a separate forum, but assume it all just is applied via paragraph styles wherever they may be.

  • How do I create a new Style that can be applied to an object?

Under the Assets menu there is a tab called “Styles”.  My question is how do I create a new Style that I can apply to an object???  A link to a tutorial or something like that would be useful because I can’t find anything!!!    Thanks in advance for helping me eliminate this frustration!!!

What I want to do is create a library of styles that are basically pictures of various wood types.
There are a couple of approaches you could try.
    Clipping paths
    1. Draw the part shape as a closed path.
    2. Position the image of woodgrain above or below the shape where you want it positioned.
    3. Cut
    4. Select the closed path.
    5. Paste Inside.
See: Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Working with Objects > Working with clipping paths
    Tiled fills
    1. Use autotrace to trace the image of the woodgrain, using plenty of colors.
Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Using Imported Artwork > Tracing bitmaps > Tracing an image
    2. Group the traced paths (but not the image) and create a tiled fill,
Using FreeHand MX > Contents > Using Strokes and Fills > Applying attributes to fills > Using tiled fill attributes
    3. Make a style from a tile-filled object
    4. Apply the style to other objects.

  • PSE 6 layer styles - how can I load new styles?

PSE 6 layer styles - how can I load new styles?

    Hi,
You need to download styles and then paste them to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Photo Creations\layer styles.
    You need to have a
    1) .asl file
    2) metadata.xml file.
Relaunch  the application after this. the styles would be visible.
In case you dont see them just go to C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Locale\en_us and delete "MediaDatabase.db3" file.
    For XP:
    Copy the styles to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Photo Creations\layer styles
    and delete the "MediaDatabase.db3" file. at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\8.0\Locale\en_US.
    For MAC :
    /Volumes/OS<name of Disk>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/8.0/Photo Creations/Layer styles.
    and delete the "MediaDatabase.db3" file. at   /Volumes/OS<name of Disk>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/8.0/Locale/en_US
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? I don't want to retype everything in the new style!

Can I universally change the title styles in my iMovie? They're all set in "Lower Third" and I need to change all of them to "Gradient White" and I don't want to retype everything in the new style! It'll take forever, as I have many titles in this movie.

Interesting.  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov9c5e9641f  describes how to change a title.  I tried selecting 2 titles then chaging the style but it didn't work for either.  So it seems the answer is no (though it should be yes).

Go to the Builder Page > Administer tab.
Use the "Portal User Profile" or "Portal Group Profile" portlets to edit the specific user, or group of users, and then go to the Privileges tab of the portlet.
Here you will see the privileges and Style is one of them ... change to "View" . I think "authenticated users" group gets create privilege on styles by default.
    Hope this helps,
    Candace
