CS4 Not Recognizing Canon HF G10

I have been using PP CS4 for a couple of years to capture clips shot with my Canon HDV.  Recently I acquired a Canon HF G10 but I can't capture directly from the camera into CS4.  My computer recognizes the camera (as shown in Device Manager) but CS4 does not recognize there is a camera attached when I open the Capture window.  The HF G10 can export via either USB or HDMI  but not IEEE1394 (Firewire).  Is CS4 limited to capturing only via Firewire?  I can copy the flies as .mts to disk and then import them to CS4 but I lose the ability to divide the camera feed into clips and omit parts as I capture.  Also, as noted in another post, the imported .mts files seem to have occasional stuttering at random during playback.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Bill

Ann.  Thanks for the quick reply.  That's essentially what I've been doing except I've been using import in PP to import the .mts files directly.  The problem is that if there is 1 AVCHD file on the camera then there is 1 clip in PP.  What I have been doing is dividing the raw footage into clips as I capture it thus doing some preliminary trimming during capture. I'd like to keep doing that rather than have to divide a 30 minute single clip into 10 or 15 shorter ones.  As for my machine, it's pretty beefy -- i7 Quad Core, 8gig memory, SSD, GTX-285 video card -- and I don't have problems with the HD clips I captured on the Canon HDV.  I'm wondering if maybe I need some different import settings.  The .mts properties are Mpeg movie, 1920X1080, Frame Rate 23.976 and Pixel Depth 32.  Thanks again.

  • LR 4.2 not recognizing Canon 5D MK III files

I have LR 4.2 installed. I just tried to import my 5D MK III images for the first time and is gave me a camera not recognized (409) error. From what I can see the 5 MK III was supposed to be supported from 4.1 on. Did the tether fix in 4.2 break the native image support? If not, does anyone have 4.2 installed that does recognize MK III files (within the past week)? I ran the update check and it reported that I had the latest version installed and no updates were available.
    Thanks

Lightroom 4.2 should have no problems recognising and importing Canon 5DMk3 files. Actually, I imported around 200 such files late last night. So, there is something else going on with your installation. Have you tried deleting the Lr preference file ? More info where it's located can be found at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/358041?tstart=0

  • Aperture & Lion not recognizing Canon 1D Mark IV videos

Upgraded the 17" MBP i7 to Lion.
When I import 1D Mark IV photos and videos from a CF card, it takes forever if there are videos on the card. It's fine if there's not. And when the videos come in to Aperture, they're not recognized as video files (even though they're .MOV files). Quicktime Player plays them fine.
Did 10.7 nuke something from Canon that I have to re-install?

The issue seems to be that /Library/Quicktime had a lot of outdated Quicktime stuff. I noticed QT is now mostly in /System/Library/Quicktime, so I deleted everything in /Library/Quicktime and now it seems to work.

  • MBA 11" not recognizing Canon camera

My Canon S95 camera is recognized normally on my home iMac and iPhoto opens. However, I am now traveling in Europe with my new MacBook Air 11" and find that camera is not recognized and does not appear on USB device list under Sys Profiler. Have tried resetting SMC and NVPR.
No other problems with camera or MBA.

I have no problem with my S95 and 11" MBA. Could the problem be with the camera's memory card (I use sandisk)?

  • Aperture not recognizing Canon G-10 RAW Files?

All of a sudden Aperture is not recognizing my G-10 RAW files. It did yesterday, but not today. I just downloaded the new aperture update thinking that might change things, but no go. Just says "unsupported file format"
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Shane

What is your import workflow? Are you (appropriately) uploading images first to the hard drive before importing into Aperture? Was the card (appropriately) reformatted in-camera before shooting the new batch of pix?
Direct camera-to-Aperture or card-to-Aperture workflows can be problematic, as can using the computer for erasing card images or reformatting cards.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 not recognizing Canon devices for capture

I have used Premiere elements 2.0, no problem.  Now with CS3 in the capture video panel it says "device offline".  I can capture using windows movie maker, not sure why not my Canon GL2 or my XL2 for that matter, I've tried them both.  I am using windows xp.

First, does XP recognize the camera(s), when attached by IEEE1394 and turned on? If yes, we'll get to that. If no, then you likely have a problem with either your IEEE1394 controller, XP, or with the camera(s). With it plugged in and turned on, go to Control Panel>System>Device Manager and see if it appears there, and if there are error messages.
If your XP does recognize the camera, you might try these little "tricks" gathered by Jim Simon:
1.) Plug in the camera, but do not turn it on. Launch PrPro and choose Capture. Turn on camera.
2.) Plug in the camera, but do not turn it on. Launch PrPro, but do not choose Capture yet. Now, turn on camera and then choose Capture.
3.) Plug in the camera, and turn it on. Launch PrPro and choose Capture.
4.) Any other variations of these that you can think of.
It seems that different cameras behave differently, so you may have to experiment to see if one proceedure works for you.
If none of this works, and XP sees the camera(s) correctly, then I am out of ideas.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • CS6/ACR 7.x not recognizing Canon 5d Mark 3 files previously edited in same version. Help?

Why are my previously edited canon 5d mark 3 raw xmp files no longer recognized and all sliders set to zero? I can see the xmp files associated with the raw file in their folder. The files were originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x -in July 2012 - and recently re-opened in the same CS6/ACR 7.x.
The canon 5d mark 2 files from the same time/event are showing up fine. I have updated everything, but both before and after the update, same issue with the Mark 3 files.
    On a side note:
We have found that opening mark 2 files (that were originally edited in CS4 / ACR 5.7) in CS 6 / ACR 7.x and making any changes such as color coding causes all previous xmp information being zero'd out in the mark 2 xmp file. Not sure if this is a symptom of the same problem? Except the difference here is the Mark 3 files have never been touched outside of version CS6/ACR7.x - however the folder which holds both mark 2 & mark 3 files from the same event has been opened in the CS4 / ACR 5.7 window but without touching the files. By opening the folder in CS4 I can see that the Mark 3 files aren't reading and then know this event was originally edited in CS6/ACR 7.x
    Specifics:
    PS CS6 13.0.4 x64
    Mac OSX 10.6.8
Canon 5d Mark 3 Raw files
This is the first time in these circumsances that this issue has presented itself.
Any insight would be much appreciated
    Thank you!

First check to make sure your view mode in ACR is set to Image Settings, not Camera Raw Defaults.  This is accessible as the top item or three in the menu that comes up when you click the little threelines-arrow icon at the right of the tabs title bar, for example to the right of the word Basic.
Otherwise, did you switch your Camera Raw settings location to be the central database instead of XMP files and/or are you on a different computer that might have a different metadata storage location?
Open up one of the XMP files in a text editor, perhaps one that hasn’t had a picture opened for it, recently, yet, and see if you see any non-zero settings.  Also take note of the last file creation time.  This will help determine if the XMP files, themselves, have been written with ACR defaults or if they are just being ignored.
Also, check the date and timestamps of a CR2 and XMP file that hasn’t been opened, recently, and see if the XMP date/time is before the CR2 date/time.  There has been a bug, not sure in LR or PS, where if the XMP file date is BEFORE the raw-file date, then the XMP is ignored so maybe that could be happening.  If it is a LR bug, then have the files been edited in LR, which might have ignored the XMP files and the rewritten things with the LR default settings?
If no explanation can be found on your side, can you zip up a raw and its corresponding XMP, preferably one that’s not been looked at, recently, then put them online somewhere like http://www.dropbox.com/ and reply with the public download link, so others can take a look?
What version of Camera Raw are you using?  ACXR 7.4 just came out this week.

  • Adobe Media Encoder 2.5 Not Recognizing Canon XH-A1

I have not been able to get the Canon XH-A1 to be recognized by the Adobe Flash Media Encoder v2.5. Get size error and sometimes configuration errors. Trying to do live stream with HD. Get error also stating the video size from the device is wrong size error.

Any ideas of how to get this beast to connect live through the encoder or is there another solution for live stream to the media server 3?

  • Lightroom 5 not recognizing canon or sony raw.

I recently upgraded to Lightroom 5.   Suddenly it will not recognize raw files from either my Canon 7D, or my Sony Nex-7.
Both of these are supported in LR4, and LR4 is still recognizing them.
Any suggestions?  I've already checked, there are no further updates available.

Do you mean that Lr 5 won't import new raw files for these camera models?
Or, that it won't read existing raw files for these camera models that are in your catalog already?

  • IMovie 08 not recognizing Canon Vixia HF100

I have had my canon Vixia hf100 for over a year and purchased iLife 08 (with iMovie 08) last year and had no problems with uploading my videos at first.
However, I am no longer able transfer my videos from my camcorder into imovie 08. It will not recognize the camera, and any time I try to do a manual transfer of the files, it tells me they are not movie files. Why would imovie STOP recognizing my camera that it used to recognize? I'm wondering if something changed with one of my software updates that changed imovie and somehow made it incompatible. I would rather not purchase imovie 09. Any insight would be appreciated.

Sorry I didnt mean to offend with simplicity, but unless you do the right (silly as it may seem) sequence it doesn't recognize the Canon! One thing done out of order and you must start over again! I did leave one step out, sorry! When the camera is turned on, you will get a camera screen to select the "play mode". Use the joystick on LCD display panel to select PC mode and depress select button.
iMovie '08 then detects and lets you download all clips from the camera.
Tip: You must use the Movie folder in your user "parental guidance" ok'd user area. No other folder works!
And I do have all apple software updates on that computer. If this still doesn't solve your problem, I purchased Leopard by DVD from Apple and upgraded Tiger. However my new Leopard native computer did not have iMovie '08, still don't know why! So my success has been on the computer using the Leopard DVD upgrade! Perhaps the system upgrade and the native Leopard misses the boat, which would cause your continued problem.
    Sincerely trying to help!

  • CS4 not recognizing added memory

    Hi,
I am running CS4 on a Windows Vista Platform. I have increased my RAM from 2GB to 4GB (max for 32 bit system). I've checked my computer and the memory is 'registered' and recognized by the system. Everything seems to be fine but when I go to CS4 Preferences it still lists my available RAM as 1645 (old 2GB figure). How do I get Adobe to see my new memory?
    Thanks,
    j.

    Guys,
I've been searching and found this:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404439&sliceId=1
    See excerpt below:
The primary advantage of using the 64-bit version is to access amounts of RAM beyond what Photoshop can access when the 32-bit version is run. You can take advantage of more than 4 GB of RAM only when you are on 64-bit Windows, using 64-bit Photoshop. If you use files large enough to need more than 4 GB of RAM, and you have enough RAM, all the processing you perform on your large images can be done in RAM, instead of swapping out to the hard disk.
This table lists the amount of RAM available to Photoshop with the different versions of Windows:
Photoshop Version Windows Version Manximum amount of RAM that Photoshop can use
32-bit 32-bit 1.7 GB (this is exactly what I'm seeing)
    32-bit 64-bit 3.2 GB
64-bit 64-bit as much RAM as you can fit into your computer.
The default RAM allocation setting is 70%. This setting should be optimal for most users. To get the ideal RAM allocation setting for your system, change the RAM allocation in 5% increments and watch the performance of Photoshop in the Performance Monitor. You must quit and restart Photoshop after each change to see the change take effect.
So I think I've got my answer. Thanks so much to everybody for all the help.
    j.

  • CS4 not recognizing new RGB working space

I'm using CS4 on a Mac. Illustrator doesn't seem to recognize a switch to Adobe RGB as my working space. I opened the same set of swatches in Photoshop and Illustrator. In PS the HSB numbers and the RGB numbers for each swatch varied considerably depending up on whether or not my working space was sRGB or Adobe RGB. But in Illustrator they stay the same for both working spaces - roughly the same as the numbers as for PS in the sRGB working space. So my conclusion is that Illustrator hasn't noticed that I've changed by working space from sRGB to Adobe RGB. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I do use the the synchronization feature in Bridge. However, when I switched the working space from sRGB to Adobe RGB, I did it simply by using Edit>Color Settings in Illustrator, as I did not want to change the set up in any other of the CS programs.

  • Bridge CS4 not recognizing tiff files

I downloaded an update for camera raw and installed in manually and after this I couldn't open Photoshop.  I then uninstalled and reinstalled CS4 and now bridge will show thumbnails of tiff files but won't open large.  All I see is a generic icon.  How do I get bridge to recognize tiff files.  It recognizes jpgs, and raw files.  I'm using Windows Vista.
    Any help appreciated
    Suzan

All Raw files are reconnized as all jpgs.  I have my Bridge set up as a film strip with smal thumbnails and if I click on one thumbnail it opens large in preview area.  I can click on a Raw thumbnail and it will display a larger view in bridge then I can open in Camera Raw for preliminary editing.  I cannot do this with tiff files.  I can see them as thumbnails but when I click on them bridge doesn't display a larger image (only a small icon) nor am I given the option of opening in Camera Raw.  I can double click and photoshp regular will open or I can go up to file open with and go to photoshop regular but Bridge willnot allow me to view a larger than thumbnail size pic nor will it give me the option of opening in Camera Raw.  My camera raw preferences are set to "open both jpgs and tiff files with settings".
    Thanks Suzan
I purged the cashe from one file and it affected all files(all almost 500 gigs).  I'd been working on this for hours.  Thank you and God Bless.

  • MacBook Air not recognizing Canon PowerShot

I just got home from vacation excited to import photos to my MacBook Air (either using Picasa or iPhoto) from my Canon PowerShot SD3500IS.
For the first time, my MacBook doesn't recognize the camera. I tried connecting to my old camera too and nothing. I tried Googling for the issue and nothing made sense.
    An help?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Turns out the memory card had too many pictures on it. I cleared some out and everything worked. Sigh.

  • Premiere not recognizing Canon Powershot SD600

I just bought the Master Collection the other day. So I read some tutorials on how to Import film, etc.
Capture doesn't work for me as it says there is no camera plugged in, And when i import movie files it only shows one frame, but it plays the audio.
Do I have to buy a new camera, or is there a way to make my current one work?
By the way, my computer, not premiere, recognizes the camera.

"Ahh so Premiere will only work with Video Camera's."
Well, not 100% correct, though it DOES like DV-AVI Type II video files the best.
The workaround is to do a conversion of your footage, outside of PrPro to DV-AVI Type II. This will introduce one more operation into your workflow, but benefit you. Many of the problems that you are seeing will likely disappear. Now, you will still have to live with the quality from the still camera, as it is likely not to be as good as that from a miniDV video camera.
I tried to find a recent thread that discussed exactly what you are seeing. Unfortunately, I cannot locate it. I do not know if it was in one of the PrPro fora, the PrElements forum, or maybe on another site. If I can locate it, I'll link to it. The aspect that caught my attention was that only the first frame shows in the video - just like you are experiencing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS there are many good conversion programs and some are freeware. I'd urge you to try some of these - remember you want DV-AVI Type II files, until you get that video camera.
[Edit] Still have not found the article, but here is a link to some data on file Conversion.
