CS4 on 10.6.3 ; CS5

Hello Everyone,
I'm glad I've paid a visit to the forums this morning. A few things I became aware of because I have;
-Didn't even know that there was install issues with CS4 on 10.6.3. Now I know why after re-installing CS4 after a system crash I was not able to install component updates (SoundBooth;AfterEffects; and so on). I couldn't figure it out but now I know. So everytime the Adobe Updater launches I cancel it because the components would install and then I would get an error message " Software not installed". Was there a fix to this or is CS5 taken care of this?
Can I remove CS4 safely once I have CS5 intstalled? I've Uninstalled CS2, CS3 safely but not sure if CS5 needs the link to CS4. I want to clear some space on my hard drive.

No CS5 shouldn't link to CS4 in any way, so Help - Deactivate it first then uninstall

Cs5 should run on mac os x 10.6.8
It depends on whether you want to keep cs4 or not.
There is really no need to uninstall cs4, as both cs4 and cs5 can "live together"
If your sure that you don't want to keep cs4, then yes, it would be a good idea to uninstall cs4 before installing cs5.

You will be hard pressed to find a legitimate copy of CS4.

Do I need to install CS4 full version before installing CS5 upgrade?

New hard drive in iMac. I have a full version of CS4 design premium and an upgrade version of CS5. Do I have to install both? Or can I just install CS5 upgrade and somehow use my CS4 full serial number to validate the CS5?

You have the right idea. You do not have to install CS4. At some point during installation of CS5 you will be required to enter the serial number for CS4 in order to confirm it as a valid upgrade installation

BUG: Record Limit per Document doesn't work for PDF in CS4 - does it work in CS5?

Hey all - I'm attempting to export 100 data merged documents to pdf. I know i can use "Record Limit per Document" set to 1 to create 100 InDesign files, which isn't what i want to do. When you select "Export to PDF" in the data merge window, the "record limit per document" option exists, but no matter what, it will always create one giant pdf file - it will NOT separate into 100 different pdf files. This is a bug in CS4.
I am wondering if the bug has been fixed in CS5 or if there is a workaround in CS4 to generate the pdfs.
All I found is this ancient thread in which people say the only workaround is to batch convert the pdf files later, and then degenerates into unrelated discussion:

i constantly have VDP jobs which have tens of thousands of records, but the chaps printing it only want the PDFs in lots of 500 or so. being able to do ONE merge which splits the merge into bite-size PDFs for our printing section would be preferable to making them through the dialog box in the appropriate lots.

Where is Analysis within CS5.1 - I used this on CS4 but when I open CS5.1 the main tool bar at the top of my screen does not have Analysis?

I have changed to a Mac and am using CS5.1 but cannot locate the Analysis tool which was on CS4 - when I look up Adobe .TV for CS5 the videos show this tool in the main top menu but it is not present on my system? Where can I locate this as I would like to set up a custom scale for measuring some forensic details I am working on

Cannot open CS4 file in Premier Pro CS5

I have a composition I made in Premiere Pro CS4 last week. CS5 arrived yesterday and I have just started trying to use. My version has been updated to 5.0.2 seemingly without issue by the Adobe Updater. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit Premium Edition. My CS5 Premiere Pro install is 64 bit.
When I try to open the project I get the following message:
This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview or codec could be associated with this sequence type.
How can I open my CS4 composition in CS5 - am I doing something wrong?

Bill and Will, thanks very much for both your answers.
For some reason Premiere Pro CS5 does seem to think it's a trial - it shouldn't - I'm using the Creative Suite 5 Production Premium student version and I have entered the serial number that the academic verification team have given me - this should be the real thing.
I know PremPro CS5 thinks it's the trial as when I created a new PremPro CS5 project it told me that it needed to install codecs not available with the trial. Is this because I updated to 5.0.2 before I opened PremPro CS5? I'm not sure, but I hope this same problem doesn't effect other Production Premium products (do any of the others have fewer features when installed in 'trial' mode?
The upshot is that after trying to create a new project, being prompted to install the missing codecs and allowing this to happen I seem to be up and running, so thanks very much!

[CS4] Updating Only AE to CS5 from CS4

Hoping to get some experienced guidance about the value of update to AE CS5 from the Production Premium of CS4.
Would there be snafus involved when say premier from CS4 interacts with AE updated to CS5.
Would there be any serious advantages to making that kind of upgrade?
So far as an eventual upgrade overall to CS5 goes, would having upgraded AE turn out to be an extra expenditure... That is, would I end up paying for it twice to speak?

I've made the change from Production Premium CS4 to adding AE 10 only. Since I have absolutely NO problems, I'm confident in recommending the following:
If you have any other updates to make, save them, and un-register (not the proper term) your copy of CS4 Production Premium. You'll find how to do it in Photoshop's Help menu.
Install any newer media applications: quicktime comes to mind.
Reinstall CS4 production Premium.
Run any and ALL updates for CS4 Production premium, in all applications, if necessary.
Install After Effects CS5, and run the update application under the Help menu.
I've been running both for three weeks, with absolutely NO complaints. Yes, it does take time... but which would you rather have in the long run: a fast install and problems, or a painstaking install and NO problems?

Regarding "Complimentary CS4" components with upgrade to CS5

I have a Win7 Pro 32bit laptop and and Win7 Pro 64 bit workstation. I've enjoyed legal copies of CS3 running on both. I sat out the CS4 upgrade waiting for CS5. I would like to buy and load a single copy of CS5 onto both works

This is the only thing holding me up from purchasing CS5 or a CS5 upgrade. By the way, it's more pain than it's worth to upgrade a win7 32 bit pro to 64 bit. I have to buy a whole new copy of the OS outright as well as throw in the extra GB on a laptop. And my laptop's doin' just fine!

It's true - when you purchase the full or upgrade version of Production Premium or Master Collection, you get a special 32-bit support package (details and usage here).
The only inaccuracy in what's posted above whether you also get that when you purchase the individual point products. That FAQ continues to say that you do - however we've been in touch with Adobe to correct that, because in fact you don't. Currently you need to buy one of the CS5 suite editions to get those CS4 versions of Premiere Pro or After Effects for 32-bit situations. It would be nice if the FAQ was right though; perhaps with luck they'll start offering it by popular demand.

Keep PS CS4, but totally remove PS CS5, install PS CS6rer

I currently have both PS CS4 and CS5 installed on my Windows Vista PC.
I would like to totally remove CS5, and replace it with CS6.
I understand that Adobe has a "tool" to entirely uninstall CS5.
Where can I download this "tool", and are there any other issues that I should be aware of?

And your point? Do you use any third-party 32bit plug-ins that are not available as 64bit versions for CS5 or you haven't updated yet? Do you need to exchange projects with other CS4 users? That would be pretty much the only reasons and if the answer to any of the questions is yes, then keep it around. Otherwise you can of course remove it, but for the life of it, follow this piece of advise.

Where would be the sense in that, when they are two completely different parent directories, even (Program Files vs. program Files(x86)), not to speak of other possible conflicts? Never has been that way with any version of AE...

Yes, I copied the project file and the captured video files and it opens but it doesn't give me the images and doesn't give me the options to find it on the capture drive

CS4 in Windows - Upgrade to CS5 for Mac

I did try to search for an answer to my question but it isn't clear.
So: I have CS4 on a Windows machine. Since that time I have purchased an iMac which I use 99% of the time (I still have the pc).
I can purchase CS5 for $199 as an upgrade and request the Mac version.
The question is if the "upgrade" is going to need a previous Mac serial number to install or will the Windows serial number be sufficient. I really don't want to have to buy the full version if I don't have to.

I am trying to do the same thing, but I am not getting the same answers! Everything I read seems to be something different. I have CS4 for windows but I am getting a Mac and to switch my software to the current version for Mac is still $899 for the lowest price. So how did you get an upgrade for $199 and several people have said the same thing, Am I doing something wrong? Shessh I am just trying to get the software I already have to work on my Mac...
