CS4 opens files on wrong display

I use a dual monitor setup. Prior to CS4, Photoshop would remember my preference of the display to use for newly opened files. Now it always displays files at open on my primary display and I have to find a part of the image peeking behind the palettes (er panels) and move it to my second, image-only display. This is driving me nuts. Also, sometimes when I drag the image to the second display, everything disappears and I have to select it from the Window menu. The latter looks like a bug.

I figured out a workaround. You have to enable Application Frame then drag the Application Bar to the second display and maximize it. New images will now appear here. There's no way to turn off the Application Bar (that I can see) but switching into Full Screen Mode at least allows me to display the image without screen furniture. A bit of mucking around for what used to be quite simple. Anyway, the preceding may help others with the same requirements.

  • NEVER MIND: ANSWERED: Clicking on photo in Bridge CS4 opens file not in PSE 8 but in Preview

On my Mac (OS 10.6.8) I had to re-download and reinstall Photoshop Elements 8 after my hard drive crash because I don't at all like Photoshop Elements 10. (Sorry, Adobe.) Now, when I'm browsing in Bridge CS4  (which I much prefer over Organizer; sorry, Adobe) and click on a photo to open it, it opens not in PSE 8 but in Preview. The Bridge Preferences does not address where files open, so I can't figure out how to get it to default to open in PSE 8 and not Preview. Any ideas, please?
PS: Before the crash, clicking on a photo in CS4 opened it in PSE 8, not Preview.
A nice person on Google+ answered the question with this reply:
"Open bridge, then Go to Bridge (Menu bar) Preferences.
File Type Associations, change them over to PSE8 in the right hand column."

You do understand that bridge is just a browser and not an asset management program like iphoto or organizer?
You would need to get your photos out of the iphoto library unless you are using a referenced library. In any case, you don't want to be using two different programs with two different keywording methods. You cannot use bridge on the iphoto library file itself, no, even if you don't care about losing the photos it contains.

  • FCP Files Will Not Open (File Error: Wrong Type)

I have put together a few pieces using FCP and then unfortunately my LaCie HD got wiped. I was however able to recover all of my files (thank God) but when I go to open any previous FCP files, I get the error message "File Error: Wrong Type" once FCP is opened. I am wondering if there is any way to open these files somehow so I don't lose my work. Thank you.

If they'll open in QuickTime, you could re export them, and thus rebuild them that way.
Otherwise... recapture them. I'm not sure they couldn't be fixed, but more than likely the recovery process messed up the resource forks of these files. Might search in the QuickTime forum here for a fix for that??

  • Finder Opening Folders in Wrong Display

I have a second display attached, though the power is off.  For folders that have at some point been opened on that display, Finder always tries to open them there, even though it's off.  Now that Expose is gone there is no way to zoom out and reposition wayward windows, so I can't find any way to get them back short of turning on the display and moving them manually.  I thought deleting the DS_Store file might force Finder to forget where it thinks that folder should appear, but it didn't help.  Is there any way to fix this?  Is there any way to make Finder forget all folder locations and dimensions?  Can Finder be stopped from ever saving that information?

    Two things to try:
    1) check the box in Finder > Preferences > General tab, then relaunch Finder, then go back and UNcheck that box, and relaunch Finder again (to relaunch Finder, hold the option key and click-and-hold the Finder icon in the dock, then select Relaunch, or use Apple menu > Force Quit)
    2) trash the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist, then restart (the OS will recreate the plist file; sometimes they become corrupt)

  • With Windows Vista Once the file is Downloded I Can't Open File, Whats wrong, What Can I Do to Solve this problem?

Tried to download an AntiVirus program Windows Vista and Firefox, once I click download the file is taken to the Download management window, then I try to open the File by Double-Click' or Right Clicking The Mouse, but nothing happens. the word Open it's not Highlighted or the right click won't do anything. Has anybody experienced this problem before? Help

If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location and they may have been removed by Anti-virus or cleanup software.
It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.

How can I get the file name to change with the picture, or

do not need to know what I have name the files anyway. None of the
other browsers show this information. My website is:

Thank you for any help you can give me.

    Hello again
Okay, I am at a loss to explain exactly *WHY* RoboHelp is populating the tag with the file name, but I am seeing it on my end as well. I've tried generating with nearly every conceivable option enabled and disabled and it seems to insist on populating the tag with the file name. Go figure.
I did seem to have come up with a reasonably simple workaround though.
Use the built in Multi-File Find and replace utility to find all occurrences of alt="" and replace with alt=" ". Note the space between the quotes. It seems that if a space exists in the tag between the quotes that RoboHelp leaves it as is during the generation process.
I would also strongly encourage you to report the behavior as a bug via the bug report. (link to that is in my sig)
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can Illustrator CS4 open Illustrator CS6 files? or other work around way to open CS6 files?

Can Illustrator CS4 open files created in CS6? or can CS6 files be converted to be opened in CS4? like CS6 InDesign can be saved in IDML files to be opened in previous versions. Or if there is any other work around ways, like save CS6 files in PDFs/eps/... so the files can be opened in CS4 and work from there. Thank you.

    Open in CS6 , file >> Save As >> Version >> CS4.

  • Opening files in a specific application

Sometimes, when I try to open files, the wrong program is opened for the specified file... (CSV files are opening in excel 2011 [should be 2008], BIN files are opening in unarchiver [there are two different apps that should open these files usually], MOV files are opening with Quicktime X [should be Quicktime 7], ETC) How do I make the system realize that permenantly?

If you select your file(s) and open the Get Info window, you can choose a specific application to open just that file, or you can choose an application to open all files of that type.

  • 6600 opening files

I have a 6600 with firmware v5.53.0 30/12/04. I have been having problems with Calender, Gallery and File Manager, as well as Bluetooth. Basically I cannot run any of these apps. I have removed my MMC and deep reset and formatted the phone. All to no avail. Whenever I access any of these apps, they either freeze or the 'opening files' message is displayed and the app freezes. How can I fix this problem?

Success!! Problem resolved! I now have a fully functioning 6600. How did I do it? I identified that the cause of the problem was the RAGHU trojan virus, probably arrived via Bluetooth, - now disabled. ;-) See http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/symbos.ruhag.c.html After executing a Deep Reset and Formatting see elsewhere in this forum. This totally killed (Removed) the virus but the damaged to my apps persisted. I did some experimenting. I re-installed my MMC which has a useful app - File Manager. Using this I explored my drives. In the Z: drive, I found under \apps\ all the apps that did not work. When I ran these apps - Calendar, Gallery, Contacts etc, they all worked. Hmmm. The Menu is an App which contains shortcuts to other apps (that don't work). I found the menu.app in z:\apps\ and ran it. All the other apps worked! Great! I was getting somewhere. When I exited the menu app and returned to the main Menu again all the apps within the main Menu now worked. Final test. I powered down the phone and powered up again. From the main Menu all my apps now worked. I hope this helps someone. Happy Dayz!!!

  • System Check error : Actual open files limit:7000, needed 8000 nodes:

    Hi,
System check showing up error 'Actual open files limit:7000, needed 8000 nodes:' in our BIA system.
SAP BIA Admin guide suggested open files limit should not be less than 8000. I verified at OS level
ulimit for open files (-n) is displayed as '8000' which is good.
Please suggest me how to fix this error. What if we increase ulimit value for open files at OS level?
    Thanks in advance

  • Having trouble opening files in CS4

I am having a color management nightmare and that has lead to my trouble opening files, so I'll explain that color management part first.
I use Xrite Eye One Display Two as a calibration system and have recently bought a new Hewlet Packard 25 inch LCD monitor. Anyway, I am not seeing the same color outside of photoshop CS4 ext. that I see in photoshop CS4 ext. When I post a picture to the web, the color changes. I did read a post about this a few threads down, but my problem goes one step further. I changed some settings in the Save for Web section of photoshop and now I can't even open files from Bridge or directly from inside photoshop. Can anyone help me get back to just having problems with color? lol
I am quite the novice when it comes to certain things in adobe photoshop CS4, so thanks for any help or advice you could give me.

Gotta love the way HP throws out that "72% Color Gamut" spec (e.g., on this page) without actually saying what color profile or standard it's the gamut of.
Color management is not something that can be easily explained in a paragraph.  Since you're calibrating your monitor it is kind of important for you to understand what it's all about - and such understanding is possible with just a little effort and reading time.  There are a lot of color management overviews online that can be turned up with a Google search.
No file showing up without any error message seems kind of weird.  Are you using Windowed view or Tabbed view?  I ask because I'm wondering if somehow the document is opening up off-screen.  Do the entries in the Filter menu become active after such an open?
Does a document show up if you switch the Open Documents as Tabs setting in Edit - Preferences - Interface?
Have you installed any plug-ins that are supposed to provide access to any file types not available normally in Photoshop?

  • Illustrator CS4 opens 3 copies of a file

It is only happening with 2 files, created in CS4. When I go to open either of these documents, I get 3 previews opening at once. I restarted Illustrator, I also tried saving one of the documents as a CS3 document and the problem happens every time. All of magnifications are different, one is at 99.37% and the 2 other open files are also at random magnifications. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

    Multiple Windows and Views
You can open multiple windows of a single document at the same time. Each window can have different view settings. For example, you can set one window highly magnified for doing close‑up work on some objects and create another window less magnified for laying out those objects on the page. You can create and store up to 25 views for each document.
To delete a VIEW, Illustrator-Help says: Choose View > Edit Views.
    ## However I found nothing displayed in the dialogue box and it didn't work.
To fix, close all documents, and OPEN 1 DOCUMENT (e.g. the problem one):
Choose Windows > Current-document (at bottom of pane) > Select the document-view you want to get rid of, then delete it using: File > Close. (Repeat for multiple-views.)
    # Important Step -
Make a minor EDIT to the remaining-document, like moving an object a few pixels. This allows Illustrator to recognise the document has been edited, so it can also be saved.
    Save the document.
Close & reopen the document, to verify problem has been fixed.
NOTE: If you do not make at least 1 EDIT & SAVE the problem will persist.  That is, when you close the document it will not save the deleted views.

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
    1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
    2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
    3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
    4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
    To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
    "Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.
Anyone have those and want to try this... ?

In case this really bothers you: we've added a workaround for this into Soxy. If you enable the option, these documents will open fine on double-click.
    You need Soxy 1.0.7 from:
    http://www.rorohiko.com/soxy
Go to the 'Soxy' - 'Preferences' - 'Other' dialog window, and enable 'Open InDesign via Script'
(Irrelevant background info (it's all invisible to the user): the workaround works by special-casing how Soxy opens documents in InDesign: instead of using AppleScript, Soxy will use ExtendScript to instruct InDesign to open the document - which works fine).

  • Open File - Security Warning with Network-based Silent Install of CS4

I am attempting to run an enterprise deployment of CS4 Design Standard Edition onto a pool of WinXP Pro workstations. I placed all of the install files on a networked server running Windows 2003, and generated from there all of the requisite .xml files (install, uninstall, and override files). From this network share, I can successfully run a silent install.
HOWEVER. Multiple times (two or three) during the course of the silent install, I receive the same pop-up security warning from Windows XP (definitely an OS message, not anti-virus or other) that reads as follows:
    Open File - Security Warning
Do you want to run this file?
    Name: AIRApplicationRunner.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: (server IP address)
I have tried excluding Adobe Air from the installation package, but I still receive the same security prompt. This is sufficiently a hassle to have to click through these prompts in a silent install. But more importantly I am unable to run the silent install as part of a logoff script because for all intents & purposes it is no longer a silent install (i.e. it requires user intervention). To top it off, I found when testing the logoff script the prompts are suppressed and the installation fails prior to the bulk of the installation (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign).
I'm sure that I could run the install by copying all of the files to each local workstation, but again that would defeat the purpose of an easy, network-based install. In the past I was able to install CS3 in this fashion with no troubles, which of course did not include Adobe Air.
Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to disable these security messages, or alternately, how to entirely exclude Adobe Air from the install package? I have found a VB script that is supposed to address the security warnings issue, but to run the script also requires the user to accept it at a security prompt.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
    -Dan

I'm now able to deploy design suite premium cs4 successfully.
The issue for me was that the AirapplicationRunner installs some useless software. I worked around the issue with the Airapplicationrunner prompt by removing any apps that are installed using that method. By "removing" I mean marking that app as "donotinstall" in the deployment file. The apps I removed are these adobe codes for adobe media player, adobe.com, adobeair itself. The below is from my deploy.xml file used for the silent workflow:
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
If you mark those three adobe codes as "donotinstall" the prompt never appears and the real apps get installed just fine.

  • How can I get the cursor's position in a opened file and display a menu?

    Hello,
I want to make a program by which I will be able to display a panel/pops up menu at the corsor's current position, (In any text/doc file or in the desktop, we can display a menu by right click of the mouse.) Now I want my program to do the same task.
    More clearly-
    1. First I would save some words or sentences in a file(aa.txt).
    2. Then I would open another text file/ a word/ excel/ or any other editor( bb.txt / cc.doc / dd.xls / ee.html ).
    3. While editing or writing something in the opened file, if I click the right mouse button/ press a key (ctrl+space), a menu will appear containing the sentences I saved in the file(aa.txt) previously.
My program will tell me the cursor's position in bb.txt / cc.doc / dd.xls / ee.html that i opened. And display a menu. my problem is not reading / writing in a file.
My problem is how can I get the cursor's position in a opened file display a menu at that position by a mouse/key action*.
Would you please help me on this regard.
    Thanks
