CS4 or CS3 for long shows?
This year we will be editing a 2 hour feature with 10 layers of Audio and video, blue screen effects, etc. Is CS4 recommended yet or should I stick with CS3 for this job?
Is the project HD or SD?
I've just started a fairly complex 1 hr HD program in CS3. I feel that we've only just got all the bugs out of CS3, no way I'm going to dive into something important with the new CS4. If you look at the posts in CS3 forum- they are mostly about technique, whereas many of the posts in CS4 forum are "CS4 crashes...", "BSOD...", "CS4 won't install...", etc., etc.
Also, I've quit trying to do long HD programs as a single project in PPro. I have had problems with Premiere getting slow and buggy as the HD project gets out to 30-40 min. in length. Now,I divide the program into "reels" of about 15 min each. Each "reel" is a seperate project. When finished, I export each reel to a "final assembly" project. Sometimes I will add the final music tracks at this point, then export the finished movie out to the delivery format.
If CS4 has some new feature that you just absolutely need, then go for it, otherwise you might want to stick with the devil you know.

CS4 stops responding for long periods of time
First of all, let me say that I am very enthused with the changes in CS4. I feel that this is the best update to PhotoShop that I have seen, and I am a user since version 3.0.
The problem that I see, ocassionally, is that PhotoShop becomes non-responsive for a long period ie: 1-2 minutes. I have experienced this on both my desktop (64 bit Vista Ultimate and 64 bit CS4) and my laptop (32 bit Vista Ultimate). During this time the disk drive is continuously active as though it is swapping the file to disk. The file size, however, is not large enough to cause this and the utilization factor is shown as well below 100%. After a period of time the disk drive stops and CS4 becomes responsive again.
The system is an AMD dual core processor with 6GB RAM on the desktop and 2GB RAM on the laptop. Both systems use SATA hard drives. The CS4 scratch disc is a separate dedicated drive on the desktop. Both systems use Nvidia video and open GL is working fine on both computers. Both computers have the latest Nvidia drivers. Since there are no open GL problems, I assume that the video drivers are okay. As I have said, I see this problem on both my laptop and my desktop.Thanks for the replies. The desktop was default to a net printer, however the laptop was default to a local printer. I will try a local printer on the desktop and will let you know the results in a few days.

Encore CS4 Adjusting Audio for Slide Show
Greetings, I have Encore CS4. I am doing a slide show presentation and have imported an audio file into the slide show as well as set the slides to play within the audio time frame. My questions is...the audio file is too loud, how can I reduce the final output volume of the audio file? The file is a wave format. Thank you Jean [email protected]

About the only thing that would help, would be for Adobe to offer a link to Audition, or SoundBooth, like the "Edit in Photoshop," from the Menu Editing Panel. That might make a good "Feature Request." Obviously, it would need to link to another program, as Encore is just an authoring program, and I would not like to see a bunch of NLE/Audio "features" added to it. However, the ability to link to an appropriate program could help. I do not have CS4, but with the tighter integration with Premiere, this linking might already exist.
I find myself in your situation all too often, if I bring in an Audio Asset, without first adjusting it. There is always that DUH! moment, when I first play the DVD RW and my speakers "walk" across the room.

Do you own Illustrator CS3? An older version should not only not be asking you to utilize a newer version in any way, it couldn't even know about the existence of it.

Do I need to uninstall CS3 for Camera Raw to work on a trial CS4
I have CS4 on trial and have downloaded camera raw plug - i am not able to open my raw files do I need to uninstall CS3 for this to work?

You are looking at the WRONG Library, Catherine. What you describe is the Library in your user folder (home folder) and you don't want that.
You want the Library at the ROOT level of your hard disk, not your user Library.

If you have CS3 only and your camera is not supported by ACR 4.6, then you also need to download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 5.3 which does not need any version of Photoshop to run. You need to launch it, convert your raw files to DNGs, then open the DNGs in Camera Raw 4.6 hosted by CS3.

You can skip the DNG Converter step if you upgrade to Photoshop 11.0.1 ("CS4") and update to ACR 5.3, which is a far more powerful and versatile version of Camera Raw. -
When I went to update my iPod touch on iTunes, it said unable to update then the iPod shutdown and no longer showed connected in iTunes. I have tried holding down both buttons for up to 3 mins with no luck turning it on, even after a full charge. Help?

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer

I have just updated to Lion and now my folders no longer show number of items on the bottom. Is there a fix for this? I allways found that handy. Now I have to click on an icon on the top, This is a backward step if that is now the only way to see the number of items. Am I missing something obvious?

In the good old days of Snow Leopard, an open Finder folder had a border along the bottom of the window which could show the number of items in that window and the total available space on the hard disk or partition that folder resides on. That bottom border is gone in Lion and those two bits of information are gone with it. Is that what you're talking about? If so, I'd like to learn how to get it back too and "Show Item Info" is not the way. -
I have an older iPod that no longer shows up in iTunes or appears to be charging. When I press the Menu and Select buttons, the Apple logo appears and then an icon of a battery with an exclamation point. Is it dead for good?
If it is otherwise working, you can change the battery. If you want to do it yourself, you can buy the part on eBay and other online sources. Just make sure you know the type of iPod you have so that you get the right part.

You can also have a repair business do the work.
If it is just the battery, if you do a Reset (using the Menu and Select buttons) while it is connect to your computer, I think it should still be recognized by iTunes. -
On Ibooks Author, my programmed image for the Chapter page no longer shows up on new pages, just appears as a question mark inside a box, How do I fix this? Please help, its the same when I try and copy and paste the same image within Ibooks author.

You may have moved or removed content on your page or its possible you used the"Adjust Image" and over sharpeed one or more images.
I assume you mean it does not show up of new Chapter pages... have you checked the template?
Where you see the ? you need to either reduce teh box outline size - or drop anther copy of the original image onto it, it may fill the ? box or sit on top.... delete the ? box.
If its Chapter page only related, its better doing this in the template.

I have upgraded to an Iphone 6 and am at IOS 8.2. My calendar alerts no longer show up as notifications on my phone. I have gone into settings and double checked that notifications for calendar was on and it is. Any ideas on a fix?
I have iPhone 4s but the same problem with calendar on 8.2 iOS - no sound, no notification appears - but everything is switched on.

Leading zero no longer showing up for hour in clock.
I know this is a nitpick, but the leading zero for the hour no longer shows up in the menu bar clock no matter what the settings are. Also there is no option to display the date in numeric form.

I had not noticed that before, but I do see what you mean.
I have not played with it, but take a look at system preferences>date & time and then click on +"open language & text."+ Perhaps that might be a way to have the display change. As I said, I have not played with it since I am OK with the current display.

The CC control panel use to show my 4 applications CC, CS6, LR5 and Bridge, now LR5 is no longer showing up. I pay for the photographer bundle, which includes LR5 and CC, why has it been dropped off? Is there any way to bring it back in the panel, because in the listed applications which can be added below it is not listed. Thanks!
If you're a paying Creative Cloud member, you may not see Lightroom in the Creative Cloud if your computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements. Check to make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements for the latest release of Lightroom.

Since loading Lion, I've experienced much more instability than Snow Leopard. In particular, Mail crashes with regularity, full-screen apps seem to run slower and show the beach ball more often for longer, etc. I love the features, but I'm disappointed with the performance. Any help coming from Apple? I've been sending them so many reports after crashes, that their file must be full!
Summoning max. courage, I did what you advised. Here is the result. What does this tell you? My Lion 7.2 (mid 2011 iMac) has several annoying glitches (which I have so far tolerated through gritted teeth) but none that have actually stopped me working.
BTW, I see several items involving CleanMyMac which I did not know I had. It is generally villified as a trouble-maker. Spotlight can't find an app. or a utility of that name. How can I get rid of what's there please? Just delete?

2) Run one pass of Disk Utility "Repair Disk" from another source such as by booting to Recovery_HD OR

Just updated to itunes 12.1.0.71 - big problem - can no longer access the legacy "Get Info" where you could change multiple files, easily add artwork, add album name for TV show, and much more. In previous iTunes 12 you'd right click and hold shift key and be able to get to it. Anyone figured this out?
The "legacy" metadata editors, for which there was a "back door" in iTunes 12.0, have gone from 12.1. However, the revised editors in 12.1 provide access to (almost) all the metadata elements that were available in iTunes 11, albeit in a different layout and with some additional constraints based on media kind. Some users have / will have an issue with the statement that "Get Info has been completely redesigned in iTunes 12 to focus your attention only on what’s necessary for the selected item" since that removes some metadata elements that people may have been using in creative ways. iTunes 12.1 basically gives you access to the fields that Apple think are necessary ... . Some of the things that have been excluded by this rule:
track and disc number fields for video media kinds
show and episode fields for music
description tab for audiobooks made up of more than one file
Obviously the first two examples can be regarded as "overloading" the metadata elements - i.e., using them in ways that the designers didn't intend - but given that some users do find valid cases for this it's a shame that they've been deprecated in the new UI. There are couple of workarounds:
in songs view (or any of the other columnar views), you can still select any fields to display, independent of media kind, and these can be edited (though only one at a time) by double-clicking in the relevant "cell"
you can (temporarily) change the media kind of an item (or group of items) to get access to metadata elements that would otherwise be inaccessible.
It may be worth submitting an issue via https://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html - I can't see it as a huge development task to have a user preference to switch between "show all fields" and "filter fields based on media kind".
One other oddity/irritation is that some of the tabs don't, by default, show all the available fields - you need to scroll up/down to access them or to expand the window by dragging on one of its corners. Fortunately, the latter seems to be persistent - once you've done this to make all the fields visible the editor will open at the same (larger) size when opened again.
