CS4 Playback Settings

I can set the External Device to my DV monitor, but the Program Monitor in PP CS4 freezes. Tried all the different settings, what am I missing? Both played in CS3 and just upgraded to CS4. Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I made the changes, but I'm sure there
are a few more SNAFU's I'll run into, as today is only my second day on
CS4. . . . . but it's Friday!

Correct, Adobe has acknowledged that and hopefully will remedy it in
the 4.2 update.

  • Premiere Elements 12: What happened to Playback Settings?

Cep has posted a thread today asking where are the "Playback Settings" choices that were present in Premiere Elements 11 in two places
    a. Edit Menu/Project Settings/General as a Playback Settings button
    and
    b. The Playback Settings dialog that appeared after right clicking the Edit Mode monitor and selecting Playback Settings.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5779204#5779204
The Playback Settings button is gone completely from the Project Settings location; whereas, the Playback Settings choice in the monitor area is still there but greyed out.
I have confirmed Cep's results with Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 7 64 bit as well as Windows 8 64 bit (the operating system that Cep is using).
We both have Premiere Elements 11 and Playback Settings in both locations cited are still alive and well there.
Does anyone from Adobe or elsewhere have an explanation for this. I have not found any related information in the Premiere Elements 12 Help PDF and have explored and experimented with alternate locations for Playback Settings in version 12. No luck.
Looking forward to follow up on this.  What am I overlooking in the search for Playback Settings?
    Thanks.

Add On...As one point of reference, please note Adobe's write up on "Preview on a TV Monitor"
    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-elements/using/previewing-movies.html

    Update....
No word from Adobe who would know for sure, but...
On a lead from a Premiere Pro CS6 thread that run into missing  Playback Settings or grayed out Playback Settings in Premiere Pro CS6 version as well, we tried creating the keyboard shortcut Alt+Shift+P to access a possibily hidden "Playback Settings", no success. (See Premiere Elements 12 Windows 7 or 8 64 bit, Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization/Windows/Monitor Window/Playback Settings.)
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4412697
At this point, the Playback Settings button in preferences and the Playback Settings choice in the monitor as we knew them in Premiere Elements 11 appear to be gone.
    More later.

  • CS5 Playback Settings grayed out and no longer can set playback on external monitor.

I like to view my projects while editing on an external monitor but the Playback Settings are grayed out. I've done all my prior projects with external monitor display enabled with no problems and can go back to a prior projects completed and view them using an external playback monitor.  For some reason, the Playback Settings on my latest project are grayed out and I'm not able to set Desktop Video Display During Playback.
The last project worked on was about 3 months ago. Last week, I started working on two new projects and noticed that I wasn't able to set playback to my external monitor. All my devices are hooked up and I can review older projects on the external monitor but can't set two new projects to use display on the external monitor.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Problem solved. My fault.
The Sequence Preset Settings selected must support the device the external monitor is connected to. In my case, IEEE 1394 firewire. I corrected the new project to the correct Sequence Settings and can now view playback on the external monitor.

"The Desktop Video 9.7.5 software update allows users to take advantage of many new features in the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop applications such as powerful new editing timelines and shortcuts and audio mixing with Adobe Premiere Pro® CC and new creative and visual effects tools with Adobe After Effects® CC."
So everything should be covered on that front. And as I listed, I was getting playback out of AE CC, so I feel it is solely an issue in Premiere. That was worth checking out though since CC is so new. Thanks for replying.

  • Blackmagic Decklink card not showing up in Playback settings

Just upgraded to Premiere Pro CC - my Blackmagic Decklink card is not showing up in the Playback settings box.

Hi Peter - thanks for responding - yes I did install the latest drivers - but finally found a thread that solved the issue.  Turns out Blackmagic installs the drivers in its own Adobe folder - but Adobe only wants to see them in its own special folder (Application Support>Common>Adobe).  Once I moved everything from the one folder to the other, then Premiere could see the card just fine.  They should be definitely look at a better way of dealing with this - so it doesn't become an emergency science project for people like me.
Anyway, case closed - for now.  Thanks.

  • Playback Settings grayed out in Premiere CS6 trial?

As I wait for my serial numbers to come in, I am starting with the Production Premium CS6 trial.
I would like to have my second monitor show full screen, but the Playback Settings in the dropdown menu is grayed out.
    Is this a "trial" limitation?

It is really really annoying in this new forum format that one does not know..who one is responding to.
This must be fixed for ease of communication and understanding.
Actually..I have no 3rd party and in fact...I was wrong...
I confused the fact that I had my 2nd monitor working with the "greyed out  issue".
I am greyed out as Colin B reasoning points out.  Not an issue.
I will be reinstalling 3rd party hardware soon to see what it does for me.

  • A/V settings - missing video playback settings

I am a new FCP user (5 months) but have not been having too much trouble. I have been on Avid for 5 years plus; Thursday I imported some Avid NTSC 720/480 footage into Final Cut (29.97 fps of course) - which displays successfully. But now I cannot return to the settings I need to edit material in HDV 23.98 fps projects. The video playback settings for HDV 24p 60i are now all missing/deselected. What is more, the program is crashing a lot. No sound, no video playback. Clearly we need to make different projects in different admin users for Avid product - but how do we get our settings back? Help!

There is no such thing as HDV 24p60i... it's one or the other. In fact, you should be able to import or capture that material, place a clip in any sequence, and FCP will ask you if you'd like to set the sequence's settings to match the clip's properties, and you simply say yes.
Where are you having the problem? Which camera was used? There is an "easy setup" for HDV cameras, but they are different a bit from camera to camera... Sony is different than Canon for example... might try those too.
Try trashing your preferences for FCP found in User/library/preferences/fcp user data folder. There are three red and white icon'd files there. Just trash them, and they will rebuild to factory settings when you relaunch FCP.

  • PLEASE HELP WITH VIDEO PLAYBACK SETTINGS

    Hi,
I am using Ppro 5.5 and everytime I play the video on the monitor why does it look horrible? It shows orange lines it does not look clear. I have the output to:
    PLAYBACK RESOLTION:  FULL
    PLAYBACK SETTINGS: EXTERNAL DEVICE: NONE
ASPECT RATIO CONVERSION: HARDWARE (IF SUPORTED)
    COMPOSITE VIDEO FOR VIEWING
Your help will be appreciate it. Thank you.

What are the specifications of the clip?
What sequence settings are being used?
    What operating system?
What graphics card and driver are you using?
Have you updated to 5.5.1 yet?

  • Premiere Pro CS4 "Export Settings" window does not show up.

    Hello,
I've run into a new problem with Premiere Pro CS4. Basically, when I select "File > Export > Media" my Export Settings window doesn't show up. If I click on the Premiere window I hear the beeping sound and nothing happens, if I hit Enter the Export Data window pops up and then Media Encoder opens. So, it seems that my Export Settings window is still open but I can't see it and make the necessary setting changes. It does not appear to be minimized and I can not locate it on my desktop anywhere. This is really frustrating because I was able to see the Export Settings window just a few weeks ago when I was exporting my last project. I've tried changing my screen resolutions but that didnt reveal the Export Settings window.
Does anyone know what is going on here and, more importantly, how I can fix it? I am really stuck here and am working against a deadline. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
    -Ben

    Ben,
THANK YOU!!!! For two days I have been struggling with the exact same issue. And of course it was simple to fix, if I had just thought about it. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I had tried all sorts of stuff trying to get everything onto my #1 monitor, with desktop & workspace resets, resizing my display, etc. After reading and printing your post,
    Hitting ALT+Space,
    Down Arrow,
    Enter,
and then pressing the left arrow and watching my Export window slide into view, I was laughing so hard, that I was tearing up. It would have been a month waiting for my second monitor to get repaired to get to see what was still being displayed on this ghost monitor. Each week, I video and edit our church's service and then post three versions (Windows Media Player, Ipod-MP4, MP3 Audio) of it to our web site. I would have been four weeks behind were it not for your post.
    Again, a BIG Thank You!!!

  • Multiclip playback settings

I've run into a new issue (for me anyway) with multiclip editing. I'm working with a two-angle multiclip, editing in real time, and everything has been working fine. I walked away from the project, came back later, and suddenly the multiclip angles aren't showing up in the viewer anymore. It only displays the active angle during playback, then shows the multiclip angles when play is paused, or during scrubbing. To my knowledge, I didn't change any settings. Multiclip playback is enabled in the timeline, Playhead sync is set to open...What am I missing?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

All I can suggest is that you close the project, relaunch FCP, and go through the multi setup one more time, step by step.

  • CS4 playback very slow

I have rencently updated my system to a dual quad core computer with 6GB ram and a good NVIDA video card. I have also updated from Premiere 2.0 to CS 4. I am dealing with HD quality footage (most of them QT Animation codec as my source footage). On a lesser system with Premiere 2.0 I was getting better playback in the Premiere UI. Right now if I play the footage in the UI I get something like 3 fps - really jittery which makes it impossible to edit. It does not make sense to me that I would get lesser feedback with that current system and an updated version of Premiere?..Even with display quality set to draft. I must be missing something pretty obvious somewhere as no one else seem to have that problem. Anyone knows what I am doing wrong?
    Joel

Thanks for your interest and help Harm. I'll try to be more specific here.
    1. Dual Quad Core - does that mean 2 CPU's, each a Intel Xeon Quad Core?  Which ones? Type number please, like E5420
2 CPUs, each Intel Xeon E5520 2.26 GHz
Which motherboard? Which version of Win7?
Motherboard is ACPI x64 based PC. Windows version: Windows 7 Professional.
    2. OK.
    3. How many physical disks, what size and speed, what interface, what space available on each?
2 physical disks. Local disk has 465GB total with 223 GB free. Second hard drilve has 1.5 TB with 835 GB free. The source footage is on the first (local) drive). Both of them are internal harddrive with SATA connection.
    4. That is not possible, you have at least 20+ running even on a highly tuned system, but possibly more than 60.
you are right I have about 80 services running. I have not changed any settings on this since I installed my computer so all default services are on.
    5. Indexing on or off, pagefile size and location, Windows managed or fixed, services turned off or stopped, etcetera?
Indexing is on, pagefile size is set to 9211MB for the local disk (custom size, not window managed) and the same for the second harddrive. I have not turned off any service.
    6. OK.
Hope this gives you the picture. again,. thanks for your help.

  • Premiere CS4 playback .mov (quicktime file) in Mac

    Hi,
I recently acquired CS4 and the latest loaded Macbook Pro 2.66 GHz. I have problem with playing back .mov file - which obvisouly main NLE format for Mac. I've been testing with 15 seconds 1920 x 1080 clip - size about 150 MB which I transcoded from AVCHD via Cineform/TMPGEnc (PC)/VoltaicHD. Regardless of any transcoders I use, when I playback the file in the Source window, video is stuttered and very choppy. Rendering certainly helps that I can play nicely in the timeline but the major problem is that I cannot work with multi-cam monitor on. With only two .mov clips on multi-cam, it is way too stuttered and choppy that there's no way I can work with.  HDV footages captures directly from my Z5U works flawless even with editing mult-cam monitor - which obviously not .mov file. I even tested the same clip transcoded into .avi and it plays back nicely with multi-camera monitor on my old PC (Core2 2.0 GHz) running Premiere Pro 2.0. Thought it is Premiere Memory Management issue dealing with quicktime file (.mov).
Does anyone has the same issue working with .mov file for editing multi-cam? I'm so stressed out for the last few days - I want to go back to FCP instead. Thanks!
    Jun

    Dan,
Forget about using CS4 for multicam HDV streaming. I decided to go
back FCP 6. I tried all the intermediate codec with various file sizes
for playing back multicam stream in CS4 but none of them working.
Either playing back is very choppy stuttered or doesn't play back at
all.  CS4 is not the right program for Mac. Funny thing is it works
flawlessly on PC which is less powered than my Macbook Pro. They
shoudnt release it for Mac.  Sorry I couldnt help you much. Please let
me know if you find a solution for this.  Good luck.

  • CS4 GL Settings; Force Bilinear Interpolation?

My graphic cards are Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT and I have "Enable OpenGL Drawing" activated in CS4 and in the advanced settings, the default is Vertical Sync checked and Force Bilinear Interpolation is unchecked.
What exactly is "Force Bilinear Interpolation" and what advantage (if any) is there to turning it on?

The way I read that passage left me with an impression that there were more calculations required in Bilinear Interpolation and I would expect a slower redraw. LOL Go figure. Maybe someone who actually knows something will add to this thread.

  • In the program screen unable to set playback settings

I want to record to my DV recorder but I can't do the neccessary settings | have to do in the Program screen menu (top right).
    Does anyone knows the solution?

I'm still not clear on what you mean. Where is there "only video output and no audio"? In your timeline? In encoded output? On tape after going File>Export>Tape?
As for the Sequence Settings being grayed out, are you referring to the New Sequence dialog, or the Sequence Settings dialog for an existing sequence? If it's the latter, then that's simply because Premiere CS6 does not allow sequence settings to be edited. That capability was added in CC7.1.

  • What is wrong with my playback settings?

My sequence and clip playback shows some screwed up colors with noise everywhere, but after I export it the footage looks fine. Any ideas? This is standard NTSC DV footage from a Canon GL2.

Perhaps when you copied the media across the files became corrupted. It happens.
Do you have access to the original media files on the other computer? You might have to copy them over again.
Oh, FWIW, I also have never seen anything like this. It looks like a corrupt file somewhere, but I'm not saying it isn't something else. I'm guessing basically.

  • Playback settings

Hi, This may be a simple thing that I cant figure out.
In the new mainstage it has this new playback feature. Great.
So I have imported my mix down backing track from Logic with all markers for intro, verse, chorus, bridge etc
All these markers as it says, comes up to select from whilst playing. Now the bit I find unhelpful is the momant I change the "next marker" within seconds it moves on to that new marker, which is great if that is what you want.
But what I would be looking for it to do is that whilst playing for example the verse, I decided during the verse I wanted to go to the Bridge next, is that I could select along on the next marker to bridge, and then when it gets to the end of the verse section move on to the bridge. Rather than the momant I select bridge it starts playing the bridge which could be half way through the verse.
Does that make sense? I guess summing it up, I would like the next marker to start playing after the previous section has finished rather than the momant i choose the next marker.
If any one has any answers on that, would appreciate it!
    Thanks

You can set the mode in the bottom of Playback where it says "Snap to:" to "Wait for Marker"
Then you can create buttons on screen that have a mapping to "Playback > Transport > Go to Marker"
Set the Button On and Button Off to the same value -- the value that has your marker name. You will probably want to drag both the sliders to their far left, and then use the right arrow to increment the value to where you want it to be.
When you do this, you can trigger one of the buttons to jump to a marker, but Playback won't actually jump to that marker until it reaches the end of the current marker.
So probably in your case you want two buttons, one for Bridge and one for Verse.
