CS4 PP on multiple PC

Hello,
I got the CS4 Production Premium 4 CDs. Now I have to install on multiple systems. What is the best & easy way to install?
I tried though network share but CD2, CD3 & CD4 have same name folder.
I also tried to put all CDs in one folder say CS4PP > CD1, CD2, CD3 & CD4 then started installation from share folder CS4PP> CD1 after completing CD1 it asking to put CD2 into \\systemname\CS4PP
Now I am thinking to put CDs one by one in share system CD-Drive then start installation on multiple system but over all thoughput decrese....if anyone has good suggestion please reply.
Thanks.

I'm assuming that the CD's themselves are just the install media, and the licensing is electronic...
Essentially, copy the "Adobe CS4" folder from the FIRST CD to the network share.
Then, on the following CD's, copy everything inside the Payloads and Extensions folders to the Payloads and Extensions folders into that folder.
then you can run the installer with a "--record=1" switch, which doesn't actually do the install, BUT it records all of your choices through the dialogs, and the license key.  It then creates a couple XML files that you put in the root install directory that you made, and rename them appropriately.
Basically, just read this pdf, it'll get you through what you need to do.
Adobe Creative Suite 4 Enterprise Manual Deployment Guide:
http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/openoptions/pdfs/manualenterprisedeployment_cs4_help.pdf
Depending on your network speed, and hardware, it could take up to an hour (or more) to install.

  • CS4 - Color Management - Multiple Users

    All,
    Here is what I hope to be a question that some of you have encountered and solved already. I've tried dealing with Adobe on this, and even went as far as to purchase a pricey Gold Support Program, but that has turned out to be a waste of money so far (response times are horrible, and the "engineers" cannot seem to provide anything more than basic application usage support).
    I am running CS4 on Windows 7 and I am looking to set up a custom CSF file for standardizing our color management policies across all of our CS4 apps. The workstations will be used by multiple users, so we configure the default account as we would like, and have new accounts replicate off of that.
    The problem we are having is that the CS4 apps, and especially Acrobat, what CSF files in:
    C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\Settings
    When I place the CSF file there when I am customizing the default user account, the file would then reside in:
    C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Color\Settings
    The problem with this is that when new user profiles replicate off of the default account, the CS4 apps prefs point it to that folder for their CSF file, and I get errors, because the new profiles will not have privs to read from that directory.
    So, in response to this, I have created a folder in the root of C and stored the CSF there. In Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign I can load the CSF file from that location manually. Unfortunately, Bridge doesn't see's only the current users color settings folder, so it cannot see it, but if I set the three apps above before I launch Bridge, Bridge recognizes the CSF. The issue is Acrobat, which seems only to see "Custom" for color settings.
    Further, when new profiles are replicated off of this setup, it breaks entirely.
    So, what I'm hoping is that someone here has had to configure color management for CS4 in a mutliuse environment, and that you may have a strategy for this.
    Is there a way to specify the CSF file for each of the apps with a registry key? This would be easiest...
    Please, any thoughts are welcomed.
    Matt

    Further testing yields these clarifications:
    Putting the CSF file in a folder in the root of C seems to work well for Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. They are happy to have it there and work well in the Default account, and in user profiles that are replicated from there.
    Acrobat still displays "Custom" in the list of drop downs for CSF files in Color Setup. The settings look to be configured properly, but the name of the CSF file is not shown, which makes us nervous.
    Bridge does not like this at all. Previously I had seen it show the CSF file in the list if all the other apps had that CSF file specified, but I cannot recreate that condition. Currently is says that the suite is not synchronized, and it wants to apply one of the standard CSF files supplied with the suite.
    Please help! This should be easy!

  • Premiere CS4 is Creating Multiple files when rendering

    We have used Adobe Premiere for just over seven years now with great success.  Five days per week we create videos with Adobe Premiere with three computers. We presently upgraded to the new CS4.  The computer that that program is installed on is used to edit 30 and sixty minute television shows.  The files start out as .AVI files then, when finished they are rendered and saved as MPG2 files.
    We are currently experiencing a problem with this new program that we have not ever experienced in the past.  Description of problem:
    We import a 30 or 60 minute .avi file into a project.  We then place it on the timeline.  On these timelines there are only the video layer and the audio layer, no more than that.  We then make the editing changes that are necessary.  We then go to export the file to the Adobe Encoder to be saved as a MPG2.  When we do this, while in the process of encoding the file, Premiere will create four (4) files when it was not told to do so.  When this happens of course with a 60 minute file, it can take a very long time to encode, (because it is creating multiple files).  We have needed to stop the process, and change the name.  This sometimes works, and sometimes it does not.
    We are hoping that someone has come across this before and can help us.  I have looked at different sources to find the answer to this.  I called Adobe direct, and it was suggested that I try this forum.  Any help would this would be very appreciated.  Thank you.

    OK.  These are all of the screen shots with the settings.  I hope that you can find something.
    Thank you

  • Photoshop CS4 plugins exists multiple times

    Hello Everybody
    I'm running a iMac 27 inch (End 2009) with the newest operating system (OSX 10.10.3) and the adobe creative suite 4 (Version 1102).
    Since a few days, my photoshop (and only PS, all others like ID, BR and AI work fine) takes about 10 minutes to load. It always hangs at the "scanning for plugins" point on the splash screen.
    I have now spent around 6 hrs to get rid of this issue but nothing helped. I searched through hundreds of discussions and youtube for solutions. I found out that the plugins should be in the /application/Adobe PS version XX/Plugins  folder, where they are located. I tried to reinstall the whole suite several times, with and without the cleanout script from adobe. I tried applications like appcleaner, I tried to find the files on my own through the whole mac os (also searching with the parameter to show all hidden folders) etc. (By the way: I'm working as an IT guy, so I know a little what I'm doing). But I could not manage to get rid of those crazy plugins (I only use the standard plugins which come with the installation of PS).
    So I see that it takes about 10 minutes to go through that scanning plugins point on the splash screen. Also when I choose to save a file and I click on the dropdown for the file type, I have now every possibility listed multiple times. Same in the main menu "photoshop -> about plugins".
    Does anybody have any idea what I could do to fix this? I'm kinda stuck.
    Below you'll find the screenshots of the error messages and so on (of course, I'm using it in German).
    Every hint is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • IL CS4 Variables to multiple objects

    Hi.
    How can I bind several objects (on the same artboard) to a single, common, variable?
    The methods I've tried don't seem to work.
    This is what I've done:
    Select multiple objects
    Click "make text dynamic" (This created two instances in the Variables panel with the same title and content)
    Click "Capture Data set"
    Click "Save Variable Library"
    Open XML file in notepad to reveal the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE svg PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD SVG 20001102//EN"    "http://www.w3.org/TR/2000/CR-SVG-20001102/DTD/svg-20001102.dtd" [

    </Variable1>
    </v:sampleDataSet>
    </v:sampleDataSets>
    </variableSet>
    </variableSets>
    </svg>
    Edit the XML node "Variable1" from "Hello World!" to "WTF!"
    Save the XML file and close
    In IL click "Load Variable Library" and select the XML file
    Then I'm presented with a dialogue that reads "The incoming variable library is invalid"
    Am I doing something wrong? What should I do to bind several objects to one variable? Is it even possible to do so?
    BTW, I've read through the "variable" related posts in the forum but couldn't find an answer to this question. Apologies if it does exist and I've simply overlooked it.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    How can I bind several objects (on the same artboard) to a single, common, variable?
    Think of the bound object as a field in a database. Normally, you wouldn't have two different values assigned to one field. It's not uncommon, however, to have two instances of a single field on a particular form or layout.
    But this is XML based, not table-based. Per my admittedly very limited understanding of XML, each "field" or container or placeholder on the page is associated with one element in one position in the XML. So if you want the same "value" (element) to appear in two locations, you have to have two "fields" on the page and two occurrances of the element listed in the XML, just as you would have to in a web page's linear HTML text.
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    If I want to have, for example, two text objects with identical content but one in Arial 20pt and the other Times 40pt...
    ...Then you would have to have two variables in the dataset containing the same values, bound to the two separate placeholders.
    I agree it's lame. My guess is that Illustrator's Variables function sees relatively little use, compared to the amount of use it would have received as a normal data merge feature based on ordinary tab-delimited data.
    But with XML all the rage a few years ago, I guess AI had to get on the XML bandwagon, too.

  • CS4-connecting to multiple tables within a single Indesign doc.

    Hi!
    I recently downloaded Datalinker, a plugin for Indesign that lets you connect to databases. I created a table in indesign and pulled in data from one table in the database. The problem I'm having is if I create another table in the same indesign document and want to access a different table in the database, I can't get that to work. It seems like it only wants to be able to connect to one table at a time per document?
    Does anyone know a different way to go about doing this?
    Thanks!

    Have you contacted Teacup? They're very good about responding.

  • CS4 Data merge: Multiple records One template Multiple docs

    I have 112 BCs to data merge, I'd like to import 10 records at a  time, into one business card template, and end up with 10 documents.  Then I can name them and go on my merry way to the next 10. Is this  possible? If I import them all at once I'll have 112 open docs and  that's just wrong on a myriad of levels..
    Thanks for any help!

    Take a look at the Data Merge Panel menu for the Content Placement Options, and enable and set the number desired in the Record Limit per Document field.
    This makes the assumption that all your BC data is in one source file for the merge.

  • EPSs from CS4 artboards appear incorrectly in Quark picture boxes

    I produced a set of maps in AI CS4, then exported the artboards as individual CS3 or CS3 EPS files. When my client opens the files in Quark Xpress picture boxes, they just see a white screen - they have to use the hand tool to drag the drawing within the picture box so the intended artwork comes into view. I tested the files in Quark 6.1 and got the same results.
    Now I used to do this to my client all the time - when exporting FreeHand files to Illustrator (and in fact, before finishing in CS4 I started these maps in FreeHand) I'd leave some stray piece of art by page 1, then when I exported page 5 (saving a copy of the file and erasing all the other pages) the art would appear in Quark with the stray art at 0,0, and the intended artwork waaaay off to the right. Not a nice thing to do to a paying client doing book layout, so I take care not to leave stray art in my final files. And I check in Illustrator for stray art outside the artboard.
    When I open THIS art in CS3 or CS4, and "select all," when I zoom out I find NO stray art that would cause the EPS to offset. All the layers are "on" and unlocked, so there shouldn't be any artwork I would not be able to select. I was under the impression that when "use artboards" is selected during import, CS4's marvelous multiple artboards are supposed to export only what's on the artboard (or overlaps it). And this seems to be the case. But is there some sort of setting or hidden data that didn't get the message?
    In the past when I saved an AI or FH file with stray art as a raster format, theTIFF or JPG includes the entire area with any art in it. When I export these AI files as TIFF they cropped to the artboard. BUT when I email one of the EPSs, Mail displays the image super small and super wide, confirming it thinks there's some stray art or a stray setting.
    If there's some invisible artwork OR improper setting, I haven't found it yet. Any ideas? Has any one discovered a similar problem?
    Thanks!
    P.S. Thanks to JET, Mordy and others for your help figuring out multiple artboards this winter!

    Hi All! Thanks for your feedback, including sloppy art. Some sloppiness is inherent in the process of cobbling together and updating guidebook maps (copying art from better art/overlapping areas rather than redrawing it again) but some is optional. Usually it's findable and fixable.
    Having discovered the problem was related to stray art, and determined it was impossible to erase (i.e. locally buggy) I solved my immediate problem by copy-pasting JUST the art in the artboard onto a fresh page. I had not done this before because I thought AI was UNABLE to paste artwork and copy it to (remember) the layers the art started out on. Turns out it CAN, and has been able to do so for years, but the setting in the layers panel pulldown menu is turned OFF by default. Oh.
    I clicked my ruby red shoes together, turned this setting on, and was able to copy the art, layers and all. Although I was out of the office yesterday, my client was able to fix the rest of the files in-house after I explained where to find this setting.
    In FreeHand the "paste remembers layers" setting is in one of the Preferences panels (another logical place to put it). Figuring such an obvious feature MIGHT exist, rather than looking at AI's preferences panels, upgrade after upgrade, and wondering why Adobe hadn't yet added it, on a whim I looked up "layers" in the index of the Illustrator CS3 Manual, and there it is on page 306.
    (The manual, purchased separately from Adobe, is a fairly handy little book and sometimes it's easier to find stuff that's called by different names than by browsing online help).
    My maps don't use symbol libraries because I started them in FreeHand and some of the source art goes back a good 8 years; redoing the page-sized maps with libraries is arguably less practical than simply maintaining it. I like the directness of grabbing a particular symbol and editing it (even if there is the occasional tradeoff of having to adjust all hundred of them). I do need to play around with symbol libraries - this client has a solid enough set of styles that they'd be a good test case. (I used to work with xrefs in AutoCAD so generally get the concept).

  • Illustrator CS4 removing artboards when i save and re-open the file

    I'm using Illustrator CS4 and have multiple artboards set up in a single .ai file. The problem is when I save the .ai file and then close it, when I reopen the file it removes all instances of my previous artboards and replaces it with a single one. Why is this happening? It just started doing this - I was able to open up the file previously and maintain my current list of artboards.

  • Will Premier CS4 Actually Use the extra memory Vista allows?

    I have received conflicting information on this question. Thought best to ask here. I am reluctant to upgrade Premier, After Effects, and Encore to CS4 because I am not sure there is really anything to be gained memory-wise.  CS2 in XP is of course limited to 3.25 gb RAM.  With Vista, I can unstall something like 12 gb RAM. But my understanding is that, although Photoshop CS4 will acutally use all that RAM, Premier and After Effects CS4 will not. Can someone clarify this for me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    PS CS4 has a 64bit native version.  So it can use gobs of ram.
    The rest of the suite (inclding Pr and AE is nto 64bit native. They are 32 bit apps.  So they cant just grab all the mem they want.   However; they have been designed (in CS4) to spawn multiple processes for certain functions so each process can use mem; collectively being more effecient on a machine with lots of ram.
    Bottom line; in XP you cant throw more mem at the problem.  In Vista64 you can; and it makes a big difference in performance; even though Pr and AE are 32 bit apps; they benefit from more ram..

  • Bleed in CS4

    I'm setting up templates for print ads in CS4 and using multiple artboards. It's wonderful that I can (finally) have different sizes of artboards within the document, but from what I can see, there can only be one bleed setting for the entire document and it isn't possible to set the bleed for individual artboards within that document. In the faint hope that I'm missing something, does anyone know of a workaround?

    tmalcolm perhaps there is a work around that might be a little easier and make sense. Perhaps printing to a pdf or saving as a pdf will give you the option to reset the bleed and only send that page or pages to the publication eliminating or minimizing the risk of sending the wrong file.At the same time giving you option of focusing on that specific page and bleed spec in the pdf dialog.
    That way if you send to the same add to a different publication that has a different bleed spec then you set to go.
    You have to off course set this up with Scott's suggestion using the largest possible bleed.
    So let me ask everyone here a question which always gets ignored.
    Say there was a guide manager in Illustrator where you can set various document wide guides and object guides as well and the guides could be shared between documents and as an added feature you could also have a bleed(s) spec included so that say you wanted to output a page(s) with a 1/16 bleed you load that bleed preset. It would be applied all the artboards but when out putting you have of course a choice of which pages or range of pages were outputted. Then when you want to load a bleed of 1/8 inch you loaded that bleed preset? and again only spec the pages you need.
    Would this be a logical way of doing this rather then having to spec each artboard one at a time.If they are going to various publications you are not sending all the files in one document to any one publication, at least i would think that.
    Does a guide and bleed manager make sense for Illustrator?

  • I want to make a new layer of multiple items on multiple layers...

    Hello,
    This is probably easy, but I can't figure it out.
    I have a multi layered document and I don't want to flatten things to do this.
    Sure I can go the long route, but there has gotta be a better way that I just
    do not know about.
    I have drawn a selection with the marquee tool. But the items this selection includes are all on separate
    layers.
    Without merging them, how can I make a new layer out of this selection?
    I'm on CS4
    Thanks
    Nikki

    Stamp multiple layers or linked layers
    When you stamp multiple selected layers or linked layers, Photoshop creates a new layer containing the merged content.
    Select multiple layers.
    Press Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Command+Option+E (Mac OS).
    Stamp all visible layers
    Turn visibility on for the layers you want to merge.
    Do one of the following:
    Press Shift+Ctrl+Alt+E (Windows) or Shift+Command+Option+E (Mac OS).
    Hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS), and choose Layer > Merge Visible.
    Photoshop creates a new layer containing the merged content.

  • How do I view and disable unwanted crap in the CS5 installer

    I'm running the trial installer, and I noticed Adobe has become even more creative with hiding away all its silent-and-utterly-unnecessary payloads. In addition to defining required components in the proxy.xml files like for CS3 and CS4, there's now also a "Media_db.db" SQLite3 database with all payloads and dependencies that needs to be modified... and in the mean time no one bothered to actually fix the installer to offer us ways to not install things we don't want in the slightest.
    To adobe in general: I want to install what *I* want to install, not what you want to install on my computers. I don't want AIR, and Media Player, and your own flavour of a JRE, and... well basically of the 1.5Gb your Photoshop CS5 installer wants me to install, I only need 500Mb (namely: photoshop, cmap, type support, xmp and the required fonts and color profiles). How do I turn the rest of the payloads off?
    Can we get someone who wrote the installer for this -quite frankly wonderful- program on the line so that they can tell us all how we can actually control the install process so that it does NOT install all the stuff Adobe wants to force onto our systems?

    Hello. I’m the engineering manager for the Creative Suite and also responsible for the installation technology.
    There’s lots of topics here, so let me try to address them one at a time.
    First, our guiding principle for CS5 installers was to fix the top call generators for CS4 so that the installer succeeded more frequently. In addition, we made some significant architectural changes to better enable volume deployment scenarios. There is still a long way to go before the installers are perfect; but, gauging from the overall number of customer escalations over the past days since shipping we did succeed at dramatically reducing the number of customer escalations. Volume deployment tools are not yet released and we’ll see if those help volume deployment scenarios shortly. I’m not sure from where you heard the installers were going to be revamped from the bottom up. That’s never been the plan.
    Adobe has become even more creative with hiding away all its silent-and-utterly-unnecessary payloads
    The intent is to make the most common installation scenarios very simple, with a second goal to give the user as much configurability as we safely can. We’re not actually *trying* to hide anything. You can find the list of payloads and their use here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/OOBE/2010/05/cs5_payloads.html
    The actual way that dependencies are determined is that each product lists its own subcomponents and how strong of a dependency that product has on each subcomponent. Subcomponents that are deemed “Critical” or “Required” do not show up as deselectable. Subcomponents that are “Recommended” or “Optional” do show up as deselectable. It sounds like the root disagreement here is the definition of what payloads should be Critical or Required vs. Recommended or Optional. Here’s the definition of the different dependency levels:
    Critical –The product will not successfully launch without this payload.
    Required - Without this payload the product’s primary functionality will not work as expected. The trick is defining what “primary functionality” means. Each product defines this on their own.
    Recommended – Tertiary functionality does not work if this payload is not deployed.
    Optional – There is no interactivity between the component and the product. Not installing the component should not adversely affect the product.
    For Photoshop CS5, the installer includes six Recommended or Optional payloads: Extension Manager, ExtendScript Toolkit, Device Central, AIR, Media Player, and Fonts Recommended. Deselecting any one of them should result in that component NOT being installed. I just ran the Photoshop CS5 installer on a Windows XP system after deselecting each one of those six components and verified that indeed none of them were installed. (Note, I already had AIR on the system so I cannot really verify that AIR didn’t get installed in this particular install instance.)
    Even deselecting all six leaves almost 1.5 GB to be installed. One could easily argue that many payloads marked as Critical or Required should instead be Recommended, such as Bridge. You have a valid point there.
    The JRE point is an interesting one. In CS4 there were multiple copies (6, if memory serves) of the JRE being installed. Customers (and I) just didn’t know about it. Many different products just included the JRE as part of their product folder. In fact, Dreamweaver still does this today. We’ve pulled the other copies into one common payload. So now there are only two copies of the JRE being installed, the common one and the Dreamweaver one. The reason we tried to reduce the number of JREs installed is to reduce the cost in disk space to the customer as well as be able to more adequately address security vulnerabilities if one should occur within the JRE. These are all just normal JREs from Sun and haven’t been tweaked in any way; but, we need a known version to ensure the products keep running properly. If we just leverage the system version (on Mac) or a common version across the system (on Win) then we’ve encountered numerous customer escalations when the JRE is updated on that system.
    Bridge in the Suite install case is also interesting. Because Photoshop has a Required dependency on Bridge, if you deselect Bridge with another product but then have Photoshop selected for install then Bridge will still be installed.
    Can we get someone who wrote the installer for this -quite frankly wonderful- program on the line so that they can tell us all how we can actually control the install process so that it does NOT install all the stuff Adobe wants to force onto our systems?
    I’ll try to dig up some instructions. Using the upcoming enterprise deployment toolkit is one method; but, that’s not going to be available for at least a few more weeks. It may take a few days to post instructions since we have to test the instructions before posting them. Note also that the product teams have not tested any configuration where the Critical and Required payloads are not installed, so the products may not function properly.
    When I do get the instructions I’ll post them at this blog:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/OOBE/
    Thanks,
