CS4 Preflight Profile dropdown only shows "Basic [working]" profile?

I am new to InDesign, finally cracking it open as part of my Adobe CS4 Master Collection, and am using the Adobe "Classroom in a Book" to get to grips with it.
In the second lesson of "Classroom in a Book" there is a walkthrough of the "Preflight" functionality introduced for the first time in CS4. It walks through changing the preflight profile from "Basic" to "B&W Job (embedded)" from the Profile dropdown in the Preflight panel. However I can't replicate that step because all I'm seeing is the single profile I've already selected "(Basic) [working]"?
Do I need to install the profiles from somewhere else or is my copy of InDesign broken (updates always seem to fail with the completely meaningless "update failed" and a prompt to try again later or retry immediately which always fails again. My current version is 6.0.6 according to the "About Help" information.
Thanks for any advice, tips (Yes, I know I should upgrade to CS 5.5 but hard to justify a cost of nearly £800 even with the discount especially since if I hold out a bit longer I will most likely be able to avoid paying that amount twice when CS6 gets announced).

The profile manager only shows my new profile. How do I switch back to my default profile?

I just made a new profile to use exclusively with an alternate version of Firefox. My regular version accidentally opened this new profile, so I tried using profile manager to set it back to the default. However, the profile manager is only showing my new profile. /appdata/roaming/mozilla/firefox/profiles shows that I still have my default and my new profile. Putting -P "default" in the target line just opens up profile manager. How do I switch back to my default profile or get it to show up in profile manager?

When a profile doesn't show in the Profile Manager then you can register this profile by using the Profile Manager to create a new profile.
You can click the "Choose Folder" button to make Firefox recognize and use an already existing profile.
It is best to create a desktop shortcut that selects a specific profile (-P "profile_name") to avoid opening a profile with the wrong Firefox version. 
Make sure to select the profile for the default browser in the Profile Manager, so that is used when you click a link in an external program.

My ipad 2 screen only shows basic colors

My ipad 2 was dropped and now when turned on, it only shows basic colors, mainly greens and blue tones.

It sounds like you are unable see your lock screen to unlock your iPad and get you to your home screen. I dont know if this is the reset you have done, but its the first thing I would do:
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Profile Pictures Only Showing up in Mysite

I have an integration and a qa SP2013 farm. Integration is single server nodes for each tier (1 wfe, 1 app, etc). The QA farm is a redundant farm (2 wfe's, 2 app, etc).
In each of these farms we have setup profile pictures from the "photo" AD property. Our full sync brings the pics into mysites, where I can see them, however, they are not showing up in other web app's. For example, I have a portal web app with
'Community' pages, loading the 'Top Contributers' Web part, however, those contributors' profile pic is not displayed, altough those same contributors' profile pic does show up in their MySite...
Ideas?

UPDATE
So, in the farm that is working correctly (Integration) the URL to the picture for "Top Contributors" points to the correct library for the profile pics...However, in the farm that is not displaying pictures on all sites, those site that do not
show a profile picture (all but mysite), the path to the picture is NOT correct.
How does the web app know where to find the profile pics?
ex:

Old version of FF died, downloaded new, would not launch, created new profile (did NOT show any old profiles, did NOT delete an old profile). Looked for old profile, none seem to exist. Nothing in library folder. Help. Need those bookmarks back!

managed to open the terminal app, and create a new profile. Went looking for older profile and ...nothing. there is NO firefox/mozilla folder in library/application support. I searched for "firefox" on the hd and didnt recognize anything that could/would be the profile folder. i did search my trash as well. help please :-(

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
In Mac OS X v10.7, the $HOME/Library folder is a hidden folder.
Open Finder and use one of these:
* Go > Go To Folder (Shift-Command-G) and in the dialog type: ~/Library
* Open the "Go" menu and hold down the Option key to make the Library appear
You can also use this command in a Terminal window to remove the hidden flag.

Could you please tell me what i can do as mozilla will work on an app in my nieces profile but only show half of the screens on the app on my profile.

The application is bingo blitz on facebook when i log into my nieces user account it works the game perfect but then when i switch users and go on mine it loads in the game but i am unable to play it. Why does CS5 GPU Preference Advanced settings only show "Basic" ?

I was setting up CS5's GPU preference settings and clicked on ADVANCED and was surprised to see only BASIC as my only available choice.
The card in my MacPro is an ATI X1900.... Will this limit what I can do in CS5?

New profile doesn't show up in profile manager

I have 2 profiles already in ff3.6.18. I created a 3rd one and it shows up the first time i pull up the profile mgr., but after i close it out & bring up the p-mgr. again, its not listed. The first 2 are, but not the new one. I've searched this site, but can't find an answer. Any help much appreciated.

That might be related to the '''profiles.ini''' file, a text file which is located in the same folder as the \Profiles\ folder in App Data.
There is a much easier way of launching a specific Profile than opening the Profile Manager. Wouldn't be a bad time to learn how to do that now, since the current Profile Manager is going to be removed from Firefox at some time in the near future. My guess is that it may be gone before the end of this year. Camera Raw in CS4. I have applied the Camera Raw 5.7 update to my CS4 Photoshop. It works fine in Photoshop, but only shows the NEF icon from my DS3 files in Bridge. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

I have installed Photoshop CS4 on a new PC as my other has all but died. I applied the Camera Raw 5.7 update for CS4 to take care of the NEF files from my Nikon D3S. This works fine when opening NEF file, but in Bridge it only shows the NEF icon.

Purge the cache for the offending folder(s) through the Tools menu in Bridge.

Contribute CS4 only shows browser Window?

Hi All,
I have a bizzare issue that I can't seem to find anyone else having.My Contribute CS4 is only showing the browser window. This means I get no File, Edit, that sort of thing. It is super frustrating because is severly limits what I can do.It also means I can't resize the window, much less move it. It is basically set in size and location (the center of my screen). I have deleted the preferences folder and registry entry to foce them to be rebuilt, but it didn't help at all.
I'm sure this is something simple, but I have tried every key combination I can think of, none seem to be working. I've attached a screen shot so you can see what I'm talking about.
Just as an FYI, I'm running Windows 7.

Yes the menu bar within Internet Explorer is showing. It is frustrating because I literally cannot do anything other than hit ALT+F4 to close the application or click on things showing within the area in the screen shot.

Firefox does not load any webpages. Only shows "done" in corner. IE (64bit) works fine

The firefox program loads fine. However it only shows "untitled" in the tab and "done" in the bottom corner. It does not show any error notifications. When I click a bookmark, or enter a URL into the location bar it makes not attempt to contact the server. In fact it appears to do nothing at all.
I appreciate any help you can provide.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins"
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)

Our menu bar no longer works correctly. The flyouts only show the first menu option and none of the drop-down menu options.

In previous versions of Mozilla we had drop-down menus that contained flyouts that offered more drop-down options. This no longer works in Mozilla 4. If you look at our website in IE7, 8 or 9 and Mozilla 4.0.2 they now work differently. (www.saskschoolboards.ca) Eg. Under About Us / Committees there should be three more dropdowns on a flyout - Committee List; MEPP Report and Semi-Annual Report form. Mozilla 4.0 only shows Committee List and no other drops downs. All of our flyouts are showing only the first selection and nothing else.
Other affected menus dropdowns are:
Board Dev / Trustee Development (there should be 4 dropdowns - not just one)
Communications has Surveys and Elections
Why is Mozilla not showing our menus correctly anymore?

It looks that the mootools script is no longer compatible with Firefox 4. 
Google Chrome behaves the same and also doesn't open the sub-menus properly and keep the first entry on display once it is open.
Did you check if there is an update for that script?

Get preflight Working Profile as AS variable

Syntax, syntax, syntax.
I have a list of thirty or so different document sizes maintained in a FileMaker database. It works great to pass variables through to build InDesign files. My designers would also like placeholder Photoshop files, but I'd rather not have them taking up disk space unless the files are absolutely needed. And the specs change often, so I'd like as much as possible to be data driven. So, I'd like to have a script that pulls page height and width and resolution requirements to Photoshop.

We use preflight profiles that are named with the proper required image resolution ("72", "150", 300" etc.) and they are properly embedded in the InDesign file.
Does anyone know the syntax for getting the name of the embedded preflight Working Profile to pass through in a script?
