Cs4 - Previewing
Hi Everyone just installed my shinny new Cs4 and am having trouble with an edit.
My project is a 720p at 35 f/ps - In cs3 I would hit endter and it would preview it and the play it once it was cached. I could then also close the project and reopen it and all would still be cache and ready to play.
In cs4 it just cant seem to preview it no matter what, if it does preview it it still doesnt play smooth and if I close the project and reopen the preview is gone.
I doubt its my machine as I have a new i7 intel with 12 giggs of ram.
Any help woul dgreatly be appriciated.
Thanks
Would not say that FCP is flawless but it is cacheing and I can preview my footage and helps me sync my footage....if I had a choice I'd use premier just cause I like the way it handles image sequences.....or should I say the way it used to handle image sequences. Im not bashing preiemer just wish there were solutions ...this bug looks like its been around for a year or more... Adobe say they know about it too.... How about fixing it?
As you know deadlines are tight and its hard to justify the time I have been spending on this issue.
Anyway thanks for all the comments guys its much appreciated regardless.
Have a good weekend I hope.

How to show rating dots and file name underneath thumbnail in Bridge CS4 preview workspace?
How to show rating dots and file name underneath thumbnail in Bridge CS4 preview workspace?
Thank you! That was it. The option to change it is not available in preferences (though I believe it was in early CS versions). It's hidden in a dropdown menu associated with an icon at the top. It sure wasn't easy to find, and I probably would not have done so without your lead. Thanks again!

CS3/CS4 - Preview of page item = Crash in rare cases
Hi,
I'm wondering about how the to draw a preview of a page item, in the most correct way. Currently im using the SnapshotUtils like:
SnapshotUtils ex(somePageItemRef,scaling,scaling);
And then:
AGMImageRecord* fpCurAGMImage = (AGMImageRecord*)ex.CreateAGMImageAccessor()->GetAGMImageRecord();
to obtain an AGMImageRecord that I can draw onto an IGraphicsPort:
PMMatrix theMatrix; // No transform
gPort->image(fpCurAGMImage, theMatrix, 0);
However, one customer(PPC Mac 10.4 CS4) had a crash in this code, as seen from the partial stack trace below:
Thread 0 Crashed:

I can see in the documentation that the GetAGMImageRecord function should not be called any more as of InDesign 3.0, however I cannot figure out another way of obtaining an object that i can draw onto the IGraphicsPort? Is there a more preferred solution?
I Hope somebody can help on this one
Thanks!
Kind regards TokeHi Toke,
I do not have any experience with this sort of stuff ;-(
However have you noticed the sdk sample transparencyeffect which still uses GetAGMImageRecord even with CS4. Maybe the sample code sheds some light on your problem.

Dreamweaver CS4 Preview Different Than Live?
Hi,
I need help/guidance figuring this out:
when the page is displayed in Dreamweaver CS4 design view the top menu is aligned properly, the font size is according to the CSS code and all other tags like H2 or H4 are properly displayed
same when I choose to see the new page in "Preview In Browser" (F12) in Firefox or Safari (I'm on Mac Book)
if I choose to preview the new page on "Live View" or after uploading to the server and view it in any browser suddenly the top menu is left aligned and all H tags are not displayed correctly.
This is a new development so the URL is on the hosting server as an IP: http://65.254.68.145
I tested with W3C and it passed.
Any pointers are appreciated.
Thanks,
JosephThanks SnakEyez02 for your reply,
Most of the time I use "Preview in Browser" or [F12] and that shows me the same as the design view which in this case is different than actually viewing the page on the web server (live). I do understand your point for setting dimensions on the menu box and I'l do those changes, but maybe you can also give me your opinion for the H2 tags, as you can see in the 2 images attached to the original post, bellow the menu there are H2, H3 and H4 tags and they look different as well, it's like only part of the style.css is applied.
Thanks,
Joseph -
DW cs4 preview in browser - requesting localhost instead of 127.0.0.1
I use Dreamweaver CS4 on the same machine as Coldfusion Server
When I'm testing pages locally, I click preview in browser and Dreamweaver send the request, prefixed with localhost/page.cfm
This is fine and works, BUT I want to display debug output from Coldfusion. To set this up in CF Administrator you need to specify the IP address of the machine you want debug output from. It won't let you add 'localhost' as it expects an IP address
If I manually change the request from localhost/page.cfm to 127.0.0.1/page.cfm it works and displays debug out
Is there a way to change Dreamweaver, so when I click preview in browser, it uses 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost ?Your question is CF specific because it requires to configure hosts in CF. I suggest re-post your question at this link:

Hi
Off to the Adobe CS4 web premium preview tomorrow :-)
I look forward to lots of useful information and some special
offers on
upgrading from cs3 or perhaps even some freebies!!!!!
Whats that pink thing flying accross the sky ;-)
cheers
IanA lot of the slide show problems has to do with the video card. Make sure you have the latest drivers for it. With open GL in CS4 there is a real strain on the video card. Might turn this off to see if it helps.
In CS3 I got some relief if you clicked the icon in upper right corner of windows for "restore down" and then resize window to full screen, this will usually allow you to see the full picture.
Another thing to try is to check "use software rendering" in the advanced preference window. -
Bridge CS4 Preview of NEF Files Doesn't Update
Somewhere along the line, this stopped working for me. I can click on a thumbnail in Bridge CS4 to edit the file in Camera Raw. After editing, the thumbnail in Bridge has that little icon with two triangles in the upper right showing that the file has been edited. However, the thumbnail does not update to show the edited version. It still looks as if unedited. How do I fix this? The ORF files from my Olympus camera update okay, so it seems to be an issue specifically with NEF. I am fully updated to Photoshop 11.0.1 and Camera Raw 5.6. Windows XP, Nikon D200.
Thank you! That was it. The option to change it is not available in preferences (though I believe it was in early CS versions). It's hidden in a dropdown menu associated with an icon at the top. It sure wasn't easy to find, and I probably would not have done so without your lead. Thanks again!

Question about Dreamweaver CS4 Preview in Browser
Good morning,
as a newcomer to Dreamweaver CS4, I find myself in a strange position: I managed to create several pages that work correctly, but whenever I transfer those pages in the server of the company I work for, they show up with a different format for the text parts, and the divs show up as shorter than they should be. And yet, I pretty much copy-and-pasted the original working html pages from my C to the server... why does this problem happen?
Thank you very much.I can't really say without seeing your code. But some things that may cause issues:
- make sure your code is valid by running it through a validator: http://validator.w3.org/ and fixing any issues noted
- Some older versions of IE have a different way of handeling the box-model concept and this can cause sizing and layout issues. You can read all about it on the internet.
But I would focus on making sure your code is valid - most rendering issues are caused by invalid code like missing closing tags, improperly nested elements, etc. -
Using CS3 Web Photo Gallery Control Panel in Bridge CS4?
I found where the styles are located in the library, and it doesn't look like the old templates will work with the new Output feature of Bridge. I want to use my old templates from CS3 that I have customized, and would like to use them with Bridge. I have installed the extra Goodies, but they will only work through Photoshop, not Bridge.
Is there a way to have Bridge>Tools>Photoshop bring up the legacy version control panel for the Web Photo Gallery?
Thank you:)Hi Paul,
I'm not a Lightroom user, but the new Web Photo Galleries that come in CS4 are in Bridge. They are Lightroom templates, so there's probably not much difference. I just tried building a gallery in CS4 Bridge with 35 files, and I could not preview more than 10 either through Bridge or in a browser by pressing the preview button. The only way to preview the entire gallery before uploading was by saving the folder, then opening the index file in a browser.
Web Photo Galleries can be created in Photoshop and Bridge CS4 just like they were in previous versions of Photoshop and Bridge. You do need to configure it using the optional Goodies files since it is not part of the initial installation. It's real easy. The link I posted above has more information. Here it is again:
http://generatex.com/cs4.html
If you do that, you'll have the best of both worlds. You'll have the option of creating web photo galleries with html templates in Bridge or Photoshop CS4, previewing them easily (regardless of size), and have the option of using the new Lightroom flash templates in Bridge CS4. -
CS4 does not recognize some DNGs
My Panasonic GK2 creates raw files as RW2. I use (on my Mac) LightRoom 3.6 to import, convert to DNG and develop the files.
Photoshop CS4 Camera Raw 5.0 for Mac had been processing these without a problem. As of about 30 h. ago, it appears that my system no longer recognizes this format. DNG's from my Panasonic camera are greyed-out in Finder. In Adobe Bridge CS4 preview pane they are displayed with the DNG icon.
Please advise if update for Camera Raw is available, and if you think that might solve thie issue.
OTOH, believe I now have a viable work-around: after editing in LightRoom, export to PSD for further exiting in PS-CS4.OK thanks, Station_two; I'm currently on a much older version of ACR. Downloading now.
See answer to next post regarding current results.
I used to see occasional update links automatically served, I believe, but could just as well be thiniking of other products. Surprised these do not come to us automatically.
============= Updated Posting ==============
Mac OSX 10.8.3 is not happy with the file just downloaded, Camera_Raw_5_7.zip.
Zip archive contains two files, Camera Raw.plugin ("Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."), and cameraprofiles.mpkg ("...can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers").
I might be able to set back my preferences to allow the second to be installed, if that is the correct procedure. What do you think?
Not sure I mentioned this but I am still able process all DNGs using the Development tab of Lightroom 3. From there I can easily export to PSD for further editing in PS when needed. Also found that LR has a good print routine.
Still, a bit of a mystery why SOME of the Panasonic DNGs can be opened and others, of similar vintage, cannot.

In my first CS5 session, previews were jerky -- seemed to degrade and then sharpen every 2-3 seconds, a sort of pulsing. I'm using the same files and environment as CS4, where the problem did not occur. Tried different project settings, same result. Editing and exporting went fine (the performance improvement on export was noticeable). Pre-rendering the files reduced but did not completely eliminate the problem (and CS4 previewed the same files without pre-rendering). Am I missing some simple setting? Could there be a conflict with Quadro FX 1800 in CS5 that is not in CS4? Thanks in advance!

Hi! My DW CS4 preview browser takes about 3 to 4 min. to open. It only happens within one of the local sites on file. All the other local sites open right on the button when I hit the F12.
I do recall a message coming up when the problem started. It said something about a violation I made, but I can't get the error message to show itself again.
Since it began on one particular page, I decided to download that page from the server to override any possible errors in that pages code. That didn't help.
Any thoughts on this. Thank you!I don't think it has anything to do with the code because all it takes for the browser is to interpret the code it is rendered by the page and if the page is incorrect, the browser will simply ignore it without telling you.
It is not a bad idea though to do what you want to do i.e. copy/paste the code on a new page just to satisfy your curiosity. If you are going to do this then you should copy the code on to a plain text editor and then copy this text again to paste onto DW editor. The reason for doing it this way is to strip out any formatting characters that are erroneous.
It is worth a try but I suspect it might have to do with any scripts you might have on the page. -

AE CS4 - why such poor RAM preview on my FAST machine?
Hi all, I just installed After Effects CS4 - I have a smokin fast mchine: quadcore Zeon 3.20 GHz, hyperthreading turned on, nvidia quadrofx 3800 with current driver, 12 GB DDR3 RAM, windows 7 64bit ... can you PLEASE help me troubleshoot a problem: even on the simplest compositions, a moving picture or a moving piece of type, the RAM preview stutters along, the current time indicator hops along at a choppy pace, images in the frame dont look like they're moving smoothly, and all i get is about 6 seconds of RAM preview ... seems to me that I used to get better performance on a MUCH MUCH slower machine under windows XP ... i have looked around the forums and seem the advice on multiprocessor options and the like, but nothing I do seems to help ... do any of you have any advice for me to improve my performance??? if you have any questions about my setup or preferences, let me know, I will be on this until I get what I expect out of my (otherwise incredibly fast) machine
Hi Todd, thanks again for your reply ... FYI, I bought the FX3800 for Avid editing, for which it is the qualified video card, and supports distributed processing in the Avid along with my DX HD hardware BOB - I had hoped it would work well with After Effects, too, but I do understand the Adobe is very transparent about the fact that, as long as your card has OpenGL support, probably best to sink your $$$ into more RAM or faster CPU .. but to stay on topic, I am just very stunned that I am not getting better playback with my system ... I have the most recent Nvidia drivers ... I have 2 NEC 2490WUXi2 each connected through DVI-D to my video card, each runnign at its native 1920x1200 res, 59 hertz ... the programs I have installed are Adobe CS4 Production Premium, Win7 64bit, MS Office 2007 Enterprise, latest version of Quick Time, Media Player version 11, and NERO 9 ... you dont think that one of these video player apps (like media player or QT) are messing with my screen performance do you? what about Nero 9, have you heard any compatibility or display problems associated with this app? would unistalling any of these programs be a troubleshooting technique that you'd attempt?
Finally, when you say "an issue with a bottleneck of drawing to the screen" what do you mean exactly? 'cause this kinds sounds like a goood description of what I am seeing ... what might be the cause of such a bottleneck, I am willing to try anything ...
Thanks, sir, for your reply!

Subject: AE CS4 - why such poor RAM preview on my FAST machine?
Just one thing to cut down a frequent misconception:
Your nice graphics card doesn't do much for After Effects performance. In fact, trying to use OpenGL for rendering (including rendering of previews) can cause problems.
I recommend turning OpenGL rendering off for all but interactions. I.e., choose the http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WSAF696587-2D81-42e2-B248-4C5C2B7D3614a.html and turn off http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79e8a.htm l. OpenGL is not compatible with Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing.
I'm not saying that OpenGL is your problem. Rather, because you mentioned your nice graphics card, I just had to stress that you need to forget about that with regard to After Effects. It's not really relevant.
It may be that the jerkiness is an issue with a bottleneck of drawing to the screen. (I don't know, but it's possible.)
Your hard disk being too slow wouldn't be an issue with RAM previews, since the frames are all cached in RAM.

Bridge CS4 attempt to Refresh Preview or Save output causes crash in Mac OS 10.8.2
Ever since installing Mountain Lion, I can no longer create contact sheets in Adobe Bridge CS4, which I was always able to do before installing ML. As soon as I press "Refresh Preview," or just try to SAVE the Output (PDF) without refreshing the preview, Bridge crashes with the report below. This is on a MacPro 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 20 MB RAM, OS 10.8.2. Ideas gratefully accepted!

Running a bit out of options I'm afraid.
To be absolutely sure, you also did the 2.1 update for the Output Module:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4229
Not sure the link works, sometimes they are country specific but otherwise check the downloads at Adobe.com
Did you try it in a new user account just for testing. Sometimes check and repair permissions using Apple Disk Utility (or 3th party like Cocktail) will also help.
And finally I should point you to the fact that due to a new upgrade policy from Adobe you have until 31 december this year to profit from the upgrade price for PS CS6, after the 1st of january 2013 you will have to pay the full license price for CS6.
