CS4 Printing in an Action creates a negative image print

I have CS4 on a Windows platform, as a trial. I wanted to see if the printing issues that keep me from using CS3 in production were solved before I bought it.
Pretty much right out of the chute, I ran into problems. I use actions to get photos formatted to print. The action at the end, it calls Print (in CS2 was called Print with Preview). This Print step is done with modal control to allow different printers or settings to selected.
This action works fine in CS2 and in CS3. In CS4, the print comes out as a negative image. I have deleted the step from the action and re-recorded it in CS4, still comes out as an negative. Interestingly, if I use a CS2 Print command (not the new Print Preview version) in the action, then it works fine. The problem is extremely repeatable in different action or to different printers. If I disable the print step in the action and just print it without the action, it works fine.
This to me seems a very repeatable bug.. hopefully it gets on the list to fix.
Allen

I waited late to switch to CS4 so the bugs would all be fixed.  Now that I have made the switch, I find I get wild negative images from actions that printed fine under CS2.  Is this in fact a bug and is there a posted work around from Adobe?  jc

  • Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer ejects 3.8 in of a 4X6 paper and prints only 2.2 in of the image printing from Photoshop CS6, I'm sure I set everything correctly - what could I be missing?

Using Mac Pro running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) & editing & printing from Photoshop CS 6.
Have new Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer and set it up yesterday.  First thing printed was a
document from MS Word (a letter) 8.5 X 11 plain paper - this came out OK.  Next I fire up
Photoshop and open a 4 X 6 inch image to do a test print.  I set it up in the print dialog as
4X6 paper, Canon's Pro Glossy paper profile, rear tray, standard print quality, Photoshop
manages the color.  I load the paper in the rear tray close the covers and hit print.  Now, when
it starts to print the printer moves about 3.8 inches of paper out of the printer and starts printing
on the remaining 2.2 inches then spits the paper out.  It does this in Photoshop (any image it doesn't
matter), and it does it printing from Capture NX.  I have been able to get it to print on the paper
correctly using Apple's Preview program but that that's not going to do me any good.  I was on
the phone with Canon tech support for about 2 hours and they were completely puzzled suggesting
I would have to use Canon's printing apps instead to print - that doesn't do me any good either.
I want to be able to print from Photoshop.  Any one every heard of this or experienced the same
    problem? Thanks JamesD!

Hello again. I recognize that a print is good if you like it and bad if you don't, despite what others might say, but I will at least share my experiences. They might help you or others who are following this thread.
My monitor is calibrated with Spyder 3. Gamma 2.2, 6500K, 83 cd/m^2. Contrast at 50%; brightness about 52%. My monitor lets me choose blackness level - it defaults to 50%.
When I print the test image I linked to above, using Lightroom, with no adjustments, my technical output is as follows:
Middle step wedge shows twelve disticnt steps. Whitest step is color of unprinted paper.
It varies from paper to paper, but I can discerne at least the 252 step and on some papers 253 - telling me I have good highlight detail.
On the black side I discerne 8 or 10, nothing lower. (That sounds like what you are reporting).
Artistically I am very happy how my print looks - nice red strawberries, good flesh tones, etc.
One my monitor, the on-screen image is almost identical to the print. I am surprised that you can see the 2 wedge step on screen at a very similar brightness.
I also checked out this B&W test image:
    http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/bw_printing/bw-test-image-2.html
You are probably aware of this since you are printing with Print Studio Pro, but others may not be.
You can print a series of test images:
find the one that best suits your taste, enter the calibration values in PSP, and save them as a custom setting. Then, each time you want to print recall the setting.
You can do a similar thing in Lightroom using the printer driver and User Templates.
There would be some one-time trial and error to that approach.

  • ID3 Printing issue-multiple pages per sheet mirror image printing

So, like the title says, I'm trying to print 4 up per sheet out of ID CS3. The first page prints fine, but all pages that follow print as mirror images. I have gone through all the print settings for InDesign and specific to the printer (Xerox 7665) to make sure that flip and mirror print is not on. Still, it keeps printing every page aside from the first mirrored. Any ideas?

A friend of mine rang me last week with a similar problem. I didn't know what to say, it was every page after the first one printed upside down.
To me that can't happen, they should all send at the same orientation.
Perhaps you need to update your printer drivers. But to me it sounds like an issue with your printer and not InDesign.
    As another test
Go to File>Print and the advanced menu and choose Print as Bitmap
I'm not sure what that will prove though?

  • Create a negative image in Appleworks

I need to turn AppleWorks Drawing documents into negatives. For example, I might have 6 scanned images on one A4 page. These are usually lineart eps images. I need to convert these so the images are white and the backround page is black. I can do this in Photoshop by pressing [Apple + I]. I have tried to save the AppleWorks file as a jpg (and other formats) in AppleWorks and then open them in PhotoShop to invert, but they open up in PhotoShop all jagged.
It is not practicable to convert the images in Photoshop to white images and past them on to a black background because:
    1. The images cannot be stacked closely together (eps is essentialy so you can have transparent backround, making the images closer together. A transparent white image is no good on top of a black backgorund)
    2. It is harder to adjust the size of the images on a black background because I can't see the grid, which is always black).
Any ideas? This is an important part of process of making letterpress negatives.

    Intel iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    Intel iMac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

There is no setting for inverting colours with my HP LaserJet 5MP. I have checked the settings when the print window comes up.
I have used AppleWorks very successfully for my purpose for around 12 years. I used it to set up a page to lay out rubber stamps for manufacture. Until recently I was printing the images as positives and using photographic film to make a negative, which is used for making rubber stamps. I now can save a lot of time by printing directly onto a new film, which acts as the negative, saving time messing around with chemicals etc. However, to do this I must print the image inverted.
    The advantages of AppleWorks are
    1. It is very simple and quick to start up.
    2. I use eps images in lineart (transparent whites), so I can move different images close to each other, whithout a white corner of an image overlapping [imagine 2 black circles can be placed almost touching each other - if you used a jpg then there would be a large white corner interfering with the image underneath].
    3. I keep the grid set in inch sizes. This way I can easily resize images on the page individually to the grid, without having to keep track of the original scanned images - these can be deleted right away.
    4. It is very easy to move images around to optimize the number that can be packed on a sheet.
    The problem with PhotoShop is
    1. There is no grid, so images have to be sized before pasting into a document.
    2. You will end up with multiple layers, which would be really confusing if I hada lot of designs on one page (I can have up to 100 small designs on one page).
    3. I can copy and paste documents in AppleWorks from one document to another. If I copy an AppleWorks document into PhotoShop it goes really jagged (useless)
    4. The transparent background does not seem to work on pasting into a document.
In an ideal world I would have
    a) a plugin for AppleWorks to invert the image or
    b) a print option on the printer to invert the image [How do you find out about this before you buy the printer].

  • 3D printing - How do you create a dual colored print?

I have a FlashForge 3D printer, its a dual extruder, and I have some designs that I want to print in two colors.  Is there a way to create this in PS?

Strata provides 3D-plug-ins for Photoshop; though I dont know about the prices.
Others may be able to point You to some cheaper or even free applications.
Or You could just search the net for free 3D models.

  • How can I create a negative from image in iPhoto

  • Print out of Report Region dropping negative values

I am very new to APEX (< 2 months) and don't have much of a programming background. I have created a report layout using BI publisher and made it available as a shared component in my APEX applicaiton. When I print the the report region, most of the data displays fine on the print out, but any amounts with negative values are suppressed. I can view the negative amounts just fine when they are displayed on the report region itself.
It took me quite a while to get the style sheets from BI Publisher to work with APEX. I thought the two were supposed to be compatible. Does anyone know how to resolve the issue above or if their are any known compatability issues between BI Publisher and APEX? We are on APEX version 4.2.1.00.08 and BI Publisher version 11.1.1.

This was indeed a bug. Response from Oracle:
This issue has been noted by development as a bug and I have file bug 16224878 regarding your issue. The issue explained by development pertains numeric format string which wraps the negative value in angle brackets: < val > , and the report is treating this as a HTML tag and filters it out. It looks like this is happening only for classic report regions, i.e. report queries seems to support this type of numeric format mask.
A work around would be to turn off printing for the classic report region and to provide a button to a report query for printing, using the same SQL for the report query as is used for the report region. Alternatively you could also use a different format mask.

  • Actions created using tool recording backward compatible?

Are actions created using the new "allow tool recording" option in PSCS6 backward compatible to previous versions? IOW, would an action created under CS6 using this option play correctly in CS4 or CS5 versions?

JJ didn't quite say it, but the answer to your original question is no.  Older versions will not recognize the steps in which tool operations are recorded.  I've tested it.
Keep in mind also that actions with tool recordings in them can be quite huge.

  • Can photoshop actions created in CS2  be imported and used in Photoshop CS6?

I have a slew of actions that I created in Cs2, my previous version of Photoshop. I've upgraded to CS6  and would like to use my previous actions in the new version. Is this possible? If so, how?
    Thanks!

If you saved the in CS2 in theroy you should be able to load them in newer versions of Photoshop. As far as I know all Action created in CS2 will play in CS3 correctly.
Adode introduced options in CS4 that are not compatible with how Photoshop was designed to run.  When these options are set to have Photoshop work the way it worked before the CS4 options.  Actions will Play correctly.  However if you set these options to change the way Photoshop works some actions will now work correctlr in CS4, CS5 and CS6. It make no difference what version you record those actions in. Recording an action in CS6 doese not mean it will play correctly in CS6.  The Action will record the same way in CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS6.  Thet will play correctle in CS2, CS3 and they may play correctle in CS4, CS5 and CS6 depending on what options are set.

  • How to create HP LaserJet 2420 printer queue on Solaris 10

    Hi Solaris Gurus,
I am having difficulty creating a printer queue for HP LaserJet 2420 on Solaris 10 (11/9) Sparc (Sun Fire T5220) server. A popular method used is with hppi (HP Jet Direct) tool but it does not have the exact printer driver and alternative printer drivers (e.g. HP LaserJet 4 / 4M, HP LaserJet 2000 series) resulted in only part of the text occupying the wrong side of an A5 page.
An alternative approach that has worked in the past for simple default paper tray 2 (single paper tray), with tray 1 reserved for manual feed. This method involves creating a working printer queue on a Windows workstation (XP) / server (2000) with the correct driver and having configured to support Unix printing to receive LPR request from Unix systems in general. A remote printer queue would then be defined on Solaris 10 system which points to the Windows system. However, the printing jobs kept going to tray 1 (top manual feed) even though the Windows printer queue was configured to go to tray 3 (bottom tray).
The earlier method would be simplest but needs the right driver (PDD) but I don’t know where to find it. The latter approach is also not working despite having got the right driver on Windows. A test page on the target Windows printer queue would print to tray 3 (bottom tray) of the printer correctly.
Printmgr does not work well with HP printers from experience. It is good for serial and local printers.
Your advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Crystal

Hi Giogio, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this news, but do the age of the printer, it is not supported by Mac OS X 10.9. I am including a list below of the supported printers from Apple:
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download.

  • Not able to print the report I created in pdf portrait using report 6i

    Hi
I created a report using oracle report builder 6i in pdf format portrait style. When I run the request from apps instance could see the exact output I wanted from "view output" but am getting printout from the printer I selected in different format i.e it prints in such a way that if we open a pdf using notepad how does the data in it looks,in the same way am getting the printout. I tried with different formats like postscript,html,..etc But still am getting the prinout in the same format as I told above. I can take print out from viewoutput but I want the print out directly from apps request. The thing is using the same printer I get prints when ran for other report requests which were in landscape and portrait also but nt sure report requests with pdf format working or not. Please help me if you know the solution for my problem.
    Thanks in advance
    dhar

    Dhar,
In order to use the PDF output type in Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) there are some server and EBS setups that have to completed first. Your EBSA DBA or Apps Server Admin will need to make these setups. I don't recall what setups were involved, but I do remember it took us a while to get everything configured correctly before we were able to use the PDF output type.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

adobe premiere elements 12 - how to create menu bar action for my inserted image button without using their movie menu theme

    forbemag
I do not think that I am completely focused into this completely, so let us see if the following is going to help.
You are going to need a base for your button. When you mention "image" button, I am assuming that you are using that term to differentiate between a text button and a thumbnail type button.
The menus (main and scene) take their origin in .psd files on the hard drive and strict nomenclature and structure for Layers Palatte. And, the buttons on the menus trace back to the menu markers on the Timeline, main menu marker and order of placement of scene markers. The scene thumbnail will only appear when there is a scene marker on the Timeline to which it.
    In view of all that
Where have you already inserted this "image (button)"...into the Layers Palette of a Photoshop document or other? Is this "image (button)" in a structured Layer Group in the Layers Palette with sublayer groups, text layers, graphic/background layer"?
Let me give you an example
If you have a button (with thumbnail) on the main menu and you want that to open to a specific scene in your movie, then you use a main menu marker on the Timeline at the spot that you want that button to target.
If I am getting closer to what you seek, then please further clarify the DVD navigational envisioned scheme.
    Thanks.

Solved the problem of printing a pdf document created using Acrobat Pro 9.0 with SL - tried many different things form adobe etc and by accident discovered while in Acrobat you have to select ADVANCED in Print then click onto SAVE AS IMAGE in next box and then OK and all prints as it should. Just thought others may want to know this if they have had problems 1

Sometimes when I print an Adobe Acrobat 9.0 document, most of the printed word fail to print out (although they are in the PDF document). Almost all graphical elements print and the occasional line of text--but most text is missing. Was ti your issue?
