CS4 PROBLEM EDITING DV FOOTAGE!

I have just built a new system thinking it would be the one to get  hd/sd  editing done with no problem. When I export the footage into the  project dv widescreen at 29.97 fp everything works fine. Once i put the  footage on the time line and play the footage on the screens it goes  from sharp to blurry/pixelated. If i scroll the mouse through the  footage looks fine. I was not able to test out hd footage yet. I need to  be able to work on sd as well. So if someone could help or at least  guide me to what others have done with their systems would be  appreciated!!!
P.S. I hope i dont have to switch to MAC
Here is my system:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
PROCESSOR:    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
MEMORY (RAM): 4GB
GRAPHICS CARD: EVGA 896-P3-1257-AR GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked Edition 896MB

SOFTWARE: ADOBE CS4 SUITE
Monitors: 2x NEC MultiSync EA 231wmi ( i use one as refferance the other for the timeline )

  • PRE 12 - Problem editing DSLR footage.

I have only recently purchased a new Canon Rebel T3i and chose to buy Premiere Elements as my video editor. This is my first venture into video editing and therefore I'm quiet new to everything. Upon imorting my footage into Premiere Elements (which is in the .MOV format) no orange line will appear over the video. The playback is then incredibly choppy and laggy and impossible to edit. The video recording size is 1920x1080 with 25fps. I have attempted converting the video to numerous different video formats but the problem continues to persist.
I am currently using an Acer Aspire 2920 with a 2.2GHz Intel Celeron processor. It is a 32 bit operating system running on Windows 7 Ultimate with 2.00 GB RAM.
I would be incredibly grateful if someone could tell me where the problem lies as it has been like this for over a week now and is driving me completely insane!
    Thank you.

Below is more about Premiere Pro, but if you MUST use a laptop, you need a MUCH more powerful laptop with your camera

  • Problem slowing 60p footage (Canon t2i) in CS4

This is the first time I am trying to slow 720p60 footage in CS4 and I am running into problems.
I have converted my footage to mjpeg for editing in CS4. This converted footage is the same frame rate as the original (59.941fps). I have created a new sequence with a frame rate of 29.97. I then import my videos to Premiere and interpret them to 29.97fps. When I drag the video to my timeline, the length is correct (double the original length) but the playback is VERY odd. The clip is 4:00 minutes long but the first 20 seconds is the entire video in fast forward and the rest of the clip is the final frame frozen.
When I import the original .MOV videos to the same sequence, after interpreting it of course, it is the correct length/speed.
I always edit my videos in Pre using mjpeg proxy files and have never run into problems.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
    Shawn

If my computer could handle full resolution .h264, I would. But since it can't I need to use proxy files.
I did find a solution yesterday though. Hopefully this can help anyone having the same problem. My solution is nothing new though. I had a feeling my problem stemmed from the mjpeg codec which for some reason doesnt play nice at 60fps. Rather than converting to videos to mjpeg, I converted my footage using MPEG-streamclip using the settings from gregbrand.co.uk. (I needed to use a NTSC compression though to keep the correct aspect ratio)
Everthing now is working smoothly. This problem was very odd and I'm happy to have found a solution.

  • PROBLEM EDITING AUDIO BETWEEN PREMIERE CS4 AND AU OR SB

I have a problem editing my audio files in audition or soundboth, when I return to premiere after have edited the file in AU or SB, I can't see the wave in premiere but I can hear the audio.
I have to rebote premiere to see the wave.
    What could be happening?
    could you help me, please?
Excuse me for my english, I speak spanish.

What are your exact steps to edit in SB or AU? Do you first Rt-click on the Audio Clip and choose Edit in SoundBooth (or Audition)? Do you Render and Replace (basically what happens with the previous method), and then Open that resulting file in SB, or AU?
From SB, or AU, how do you Save your file - exact steps please?

  • Problems with DSLR Footage in CS 5.5

I am using Premiere CS 5.5.  I have no trouble editing AVCHD footage, but a new client is giving me footage shot with various DSLR cameras and this is causing me problems.
    First, my specs.
    Windows 7
    i7-2600 processor
GTX 460 card (1 GB memory, 336 CUDA processors) (Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration is on)
    16 GB memory
Separate SATA 7200 RPM hard drives for programs and data files
Now, my symptoms.  When I first turn on the computer and open a project, it works fine for a while, though scrubbing on the timeline with any speed causes a bit of choking.  After some period of time, trying to play a clip on the timeline will cause Premiere to display a single frozen frame, even though the sound is still playing correctly.  It doesn't natter where I move the playback line, I will see this frame frozen on my screen until I turn off the computer.  Rebooting the computer and opening the project is not sufficient to un-stick things - it has to be a full shut down.
Defragging the hard drives does not help.  And the problem happens even if there are no effects on the clips.
Question: which would be a more likely solution for this problem: upgrading the GTX card or investing in a USB 3.0 Raid 0 drive?  Or is there a better solution that I am overlooking?

  • Editing iPhone footage in final cut pro

So my sister got baptized and I'm trying to put together a hightlight of this awesome event. I did not have my video camera on me, but I did have my iPhone. I shot a 3 minute video and then brought it into FCP without any issues. It plays perfectly in the timeline, or so I thought. I'm letting the timeline adjust itself automatically to format to the iPhone video settings. 640x480, H.264 encoding. I have to render but that's only because the audio.
The issue I'm having is with the transitions from video to still pictures I imported from another camera. I'm adding a simple "fade in / fade out" and it's doing crazy things to my work flow. The video now jumps or lags and will not play smooth. Also when I transition into a picture from video it flickers real bad. I've tried everything and can't get it to work. Last night I started using iMovie and that was terrible. I need some help on workflow here. I should be able to go in and out of video and pictures without any problems. My exported video even jumps so I know there is something wrong. I tried just putting two iphone video clips back to back and there was lag there as well. I edit HD footage all the time and have a loaded system. So I know it's not hard ware...
    PLEASE HELP!
    MacBook Pro 2.4 15" 4 gig RAM   Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Convert the video in Compressor or the QT Pro player to motionjpeg or some other editing format.
    Use that instead.
Remember that the original footage is heavily compressed and using a transcode won't improve the footage, just the edit.

Hi, Accidentally somebody screw up Photoshop CS4 and InDesign CS4 Master edition on a MAC computer in the school. The install discs did not start to run therefore I can't  reinstall the 2 missing programs. I want to install the softwares, therefore I download those from here.  The downloaded program refuse to accept the serial number which was given to the school when they purchased the Master Collection CS4 MLP A00. Thank you for your help, in advance.

    Hi Jeff,
Thank you. I am a little bit busy at work, sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to solve the problem, but it still exists. The 3rd of the Adobe disk is damaged someway. I tried to run on my mac at home and it has a failure. So I think we have no other choice that to download the full pack of master collection. I had a discussion with the IT expert and he figured out that company does not exist any more from where they purchased the Adobe Master Collection for Mac and PC. So If you would be kind to help me, what kind of information ID or any kind of document would be needed to identify the purchaser institute (us). I don't think any of us has an account at the Adobe. I will try to figur out. I desperately need to replace Photoshop and InDesign as without them it's really harsh to teach the kids fot the graphic design.
    Sincerely yours.

  • Editing 1080p footage on MacBook Pro 15-inch Core i5 2.4GHz

    Hi,
I am thinking of purchasing a Canon EOS 550d. I would be very interested to know if my April 2010 MacBook Pro 15-inch Core i5 2.4GHz will be capable of editing 1080p footage shot at 25fps (PAL). I have edited 720p footage without any problems, but I have never had a camera capable of recording in 1080p.
    Thanks,
    Acros-Krik

Should not be a problem at all. The best path is to transcode your footage using something like MPEG Streamclip to a usable codec, i.e. ProRes422 or Apple Intermediate Codec, for Final Cut Pro or Express respectively. If using Premiere Pro CS5, you can import native files directly into it. ProRes422 LT is a great codec from FCP7 only, it keeps the transcoded footage at the same file size as the native files and holds plenty of information for color grading later.
It's highly recommended to have all footage and scratch files on an external drive and not your OS drive. Makes everything operate more smoothly.
I do video work on the exact same machine using Final Cut Pro 7. I would strongly advise maxing out the ram. 8GB of ram helped a lot. I was hitting the 4GB limit with just a few pro apps open prior to adding more.

  • Problem with digibeta footage

i'm trying to edit digibeta footage that was given to me. i've works out some of the kinks but one problem remains:
the footage is very interlaced. i've used a de-interlace filter with the flicker (maximum) setting, and this seems to be working. i was just wondering if perhaps there is a better way.
the footage was shoot digibeta, captured with DS AVID, then exported with quicktime conversion with the default settings. the person who exported said that he applied alpha to it when exporting by accident.
let me know what you guys think. thanks.

COnverting footage from one edit system to another can always cause issues. Best to capture with the edit system you intend to edit with.
As for VERY interlaced...there is no such thing. Either it is interlaced, or it isn't. Digibeta is an interlaced format...so of course it will be interlaced. And there should be no problem working with it as such. But are you judging the quality of the image on the COMPUTER monitor, or an external Broadcast monitor? Never use the computer monitor to judge footage. It doesnt display both fields, only one, so it will look odd.

  • Problem editing photo's from LR 2.0 in Photoshop

I have a problem editing photo's from LR 2.0 in Photoshop CS4. When I select a photo to edit in PS PS starts up but nothing further happens. This goes for all the different options (in layers, as HDR, etc) except for editing the original photo (in this case a jpeg-file). The option "edit original file" works fine. Help!!

Don't know whether it will fix it, but you should ditch 2.0 and install 2.1 RC (see top of the forum for the link). There were many bugs like this in 2.0 that were fixed in 2.1, so certainly worth a try. If nothing else, you'll have a much smoother running Lightroom.

  • Old problem with HD footage, Considering upgrade

    Hi all,
I've been here with this question since day one with my rig (2.5 years+).
I'm not able to edit HD footage properly, the editing process is super slow, I can't seem to preview the footage because it just lags.
The footage is from numerous cameras each movie, DSLR, GoPro, MTS, etc.
I work 90% of the time with only one stream of video.
My current setup is as follows:
    i7 2600k 3.4 (no OC), p8z68 v pro MOBO, 16gb ram (4x4GB G.Skill RipJaw X Edition Dual Channel CL7-8-7-24)
    GTX 560 Ti
500gb black caviar sata 3 for os
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Project & Media
2*1tb black caviar sata 3 raid for Scartch,Renders,Etc.
    2tb green caviar for backups.
    *using the onboard raid controller.
    My workflow is really tedious, I'm working with proxy files to overcome the slow editing problem;
    1. Getting the hd clips from the client
    2. encoding the files to low res avi/mpeg
    3. editing
    4. link media to HD footage (Manually - aprox 30-40 mins)
    5. check for any errors
    6. review the film - very slow because of the HD
    7. export
    So.. any movie, takes forever.
A lot of people tried to help with my current hardware, but I couldn't find one single solution to the problem.
So, I want your advice, should I upgrade my rig? because if I know for a fact, that upgrading it in a small budget will get the things smooth, It will be worth while in the short term.
If you recommend upgrading, what should I go for? what can I keep ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Eliran.

    Biran, welcome to the forums
Because of your GoPro and DSLR media without any overclocking you really need much more CPU power.  At least a hex-core.  But the first thing you have to do is read Harm's encyclopedia on building an editing computer for Premiere Pro on our web site, especially his Tweakers Pages.  Look especially at this graphic to see why you need that CPU upgrade.
Notice that GoPro and DSLR QT are both extremely CPU intensive.  Initially you could just start out with a new motherboard, CPU and CPU cooler; and possibly reuse your RAM, GPU and disk drives.  We would have know more about your case and power supply.  The next (later) upgrade would be in the disk drive area.

  • Prosumer looking for the right desktop to edit hd footage...

    Hi Everybody,
I have a question for all of you, but before I ask the question I have searched high and low for an answer to my question and although I've found people in similar situations, I need to find an answer for my specific needs. Okay here it goes, I have an had camera Sony Sr11 and I want to edit the footage, somewhat flawlessly, I want it to run as smooth as possible b/cuz my current laptop (dell 1520 2.4 Ghz, 4GB Ram, non-dedicated graphics) isn't cutting it. I'm not a film student or anything I just like to make movies it's a hobby and I do it for family and friends that sort of thing. I intend on using final cut express to get that particular job done, I also have thousands of photos..and I don't plan on putting them on the hard drive of my computer, they're kept in an external hard drive. I like to edit those as well I wanted to use aperture for that. So the two main programs I want to use are final cut express hd and aperture...now for the third thing...I do a little gaming and I mean a little..I play sims 2 and I want to eventually play sims 3...so I want a computer that can run those games at the highest settings...compared to other games I don't think that's asking much but I don't want medium settings I want high settings...
So those are my main concerns...running final cut express, aperture, sims 2 and eventually sims 3...should I get the new Imac 24" 3.06 Ghz or should I bite the bullet save a little longer and get the mac pro with an external screen maybe hp or dell...oh and one more question do you have to be a "computer major" to get the adc discount b/cuz I'm a pharmacy student???
Again thanks for your help everybody

    hey there VXII,
the discount is available to any one who's a registered student w/ a valid ID- check w/ your school bookstore, take your ID to an Apple Store or check out the Education Store here on apple.com for the requirements. the current iMacs are so new, there may not be anyone who has used it for gaming.... but you might want to check MacWorld in a few days to see if they have new Benchmark tests or Reviews that may help you decide about gaming or just keep the Dell for gaming. to edit the HDD, AVCHD, any not tape-based video over Firewire, you will need an Intel Mac & i suggest you get as much RAM as you can afford, try Crucial or OWC to get it for way less than Apple.
    good luck.

  • I would like to save footage to a hard drive and stiill be able ot edit the footage. I would like to reuse the cards on the  same project. Is this a sensible option. Camera JVC  GY-HM100

Hello I wonder if anyone would be able to help.
I have a JVC GY-HM100. I have footage from a ongoing project saved on SDHC cards. I want to save money by reusing the cards while i carry on working on the same project.  I wondered if I could save the footage from the SDHC card too a hard drive ; delete the footage from the cards and reuse them. would i still be able to edit the footage stored on the hard drive alongside the footage which will be imported straight from the camera..  I have heard that this camera works well with final cut pro but if the info is saved to a hard drive first and subsequent footage is straight from the camra and SDHC cards will it work or is it a false economy to reuse the cards.
    Hope that makes sense

"I wondered if I could save the footage from the SDHC card too a hard drive"
    Yes.
"delete the footage from the cards and reuse them."
    Yes.

  • Problem editing .mov files in CS6

    Hi Adobe folk,
I've uploaded .mov files from my Canon 7D camera onto Adobe Premiere CS6, but after doing some editing the footage in the playback screen is very jerky/slow. I'm working on a brand new iMac OSX and have a RAM of 4GB, so I have no idea why the playback would be so slow.
It's an urgent project that I'm working on, so any solutions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks :-)

All .mov files aren't the same thing though. Quicktime/.mov files are just the "container" for the actual "codec" the codec is what determines basically everything other than the file extension itself anyways. Basically the type of .mov file you're attempting to edit is using the h.264 codec, which is a codec that puts a TON of strain on your CPU. Converting the files to ProRes would make playback better, but will produce huge files, and if you start stacking several layers of video on top of each other it will start to playback in a choppy manor, because you're not using a RAID array.  In this case I don't think the RAM will help that much, although it should make your overall experince much better.
Although how many layers of video are you attempting to edit on the same track and what effects are you using? Because your system should be able to at least playback a single video clip inside Premiere without issue.
Although once you post what the resolution is I'll be able to recommend what codec to use, because for certain resolutions some codecs tend to become more efficient than others. But basically unless you have FCP on your machine you can't convert to ProRes, however if you don't have final cut no worries because you can use the Cineform codec which is just as good as ProRes. The cineform codec is also free now days which is great.  But honestly I think that most likely you're going to need to transcode the footage to a ligher codec, basically you don't need to worry about files being too big because, even though it seems like a smaller file would be easier for your machine to handle it's actually quite the opposite unless you start hitting a HDD bottleneck. Which won't happen in most cases, (depending on resolution etc though or unelss the video is totally uncompressed HD).
Here is the basic reason why the less compressed a video clip is the easier you can edit the file without strain on the CPU. Video clips that use "GOP's" or Group of Pictures use
    I - frames
    B - frames
P - frames        (With mpeg-1 there is also D-frames but it's not used anymore to my knowledge)
Anyways though when your CPU plays back a h.264 clip it has to decode the video which the longer the GOP is the harder your CPU has to work, and in general H.264 footage is almost always GOP because it's so heavily compressed. Unless it's I-frame only. Because basically the further the I-frames are from each other the harder your cpu must work to decode it. When dealing with footage that is much less compressed though you're CPU is basically free to process other stuff such as heavy CC or other effects.
