CS4 product DVDs not recognized: XP Pro

No problems are indicated in device manager, and other disks work fine in the drive.
When I insert one of the 4 CS4 disks, I get "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk..."
What is different about these disks? They are DVDs, but this drive is
described as a DW/RW/DVD/RW storage device.
CS4 is an upgrade, but a CS3 is completely installed from the original disks.
System Information indicates that it is a Sony CD U5225 and Status is OK
(IDE\CDROMSONY_CD-ROM_CDU5225)
Any ideas?

I installed CS4 on my Vista 64-bit laptop, and it worked fine. When I took another look at my desktop drive, it was clear that the drive on my XP Pro system is indeed a CD and not a DVD.
So I went and bought a replacement drive to install. When I'm done with that task, I'll try installing again from that drive, and will post another message if it turns out that ISN'T the problem.
But it looks like this problem is soon going to be solved.

Are you running IE10 in 64-bit mode?  The Adobe Reader plugin is 32-bit, and can only run on a 32-bit browser.
Regarding Flash Player, do you have ActiveX Filtering enabled?  Disable it.

  • Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro

Apple TV is not recognizing macbook pro after it has been authorized and home sharing as been turned on; Airplay is also turned on.  I had a 7 year old macbook from which I transferred data successfully to the new macbook pro.  The old laptop has been de-authorized and the new laptop has been given a new name.  The apple TV recognizes the new name but continues to say: “unable to connect with new macbook.”

Yes, we've had the airplay turned on so we can mirror the computer on the TV.  Nothing else to it then?  That will work for us.

  • Empty CD or DVD not recognized

    Hi all
After weeks of burning CDs or DVDs without any problems I suddenly get these errors and I cannot burn anymore:
a.) If I load a CD-R I get from the Finder the message "Dieses Medium kann nicht verwendet werden, da es nicht erkannt wird." in english something like "Media cannot used because not recognized ..."
    b.) Same message when loading a DVD-R
c.) If I load a CD-R I get from iTunes the message "Der Brenner wird gerade von einem anderen Programm verwendet." what means in english something like "Burner is used by another program ..."
The optical drive can read bought CD (Music) and DVD (Movie) without any problems. So iTunes or DVD-Player can play them without problems.
I'm not sure but could it be there was a bad software update? I remember some days/weeks ago I got a quite huge software update from apple related to the OS, iTunes a.s.o.
In other posts I've read that people had to exchange their optical drives but I don't think this is the problem here because reading runs without any errors.
    Thanks for any support.

  • [CLOSED] CD/DVDs not recognized (hal-less KDE)

    Hello everyone,
after the last system upgrade last week CDs and DVDs are not recognized when I insert them in the drive.
I'm running hal-less KDE 4.6 with udisks installed.
I removed hal after the upgrade, however the drive could not recognize the disks even when hal was running.
I searched the forum but haven't found any discussion reporting the very same problem.
Can anyone help me to debug this?
    Thanks!

I had the same / similar problem. Just that given that I build my own kernel I thought this was what was causing it. That's why I rebuilded the kernel and enabled ISO and UDF modules in Filesystems. If you're using the standard kernel I have no idea what could be the problem.

  • DVD--not recognized AND stuck in drive

I've had trouble with my G4 not recognizing DVDs. I just put one in that was burned at a store with a friend's videotape--it never showed up in the finder. When I launch Disk Utility, it hangs. I am using an older keyboard without the disk eject button; I can't get the disk to eject, can't drag it to the trash because it doesn't show up. When I reboot with the mouse button held down, the Mac won't start up--I just get a Windows-like gray screen of death.
I don't know what the drive is--it's an old Super Drive--because the Apple System Profiler also hangs when I click on the "Disc Burning" option.
How do I get the DVD out, and how do I get the G4 to recognize DVDs?
    Thanks for any help--Bob

    Hi-
Try and open the tower drive cover, and look for a small hole about the size of a paper clip, in the front of the dvd drive. Insert a straightened paper clip in the hole, and you should be able to open the tray.
You should then try your Tiger install disc. (While you're at it, boot from the install disk, and run Disk Utility to repair your hard drive).
If the install disk is read, then the drive is probably okay.
You may consider an "Archive and Install" reinstall of your OS X.
Prior to that, you may consider a reinstall of the OS 10.4.8 combo update:

Please post back with progress (or not).

  • Burn imovie to dvd-"not recognized"

I spent 5 days and about 26 hours making this iMovie. I bought the **** DVD's to burn it on to 42 of them for work. I finalized the project numerous times, did the "Media Browser" thing and chose the file sizes. I insert the DVD to burn, and it claims that it is "not recognized" in order to burn it. I am beyond frustrated and NO, Apple, I will not give you any more of my money. Helllllllpppp!!!

When you insert the Blank DVD in the finder with nothing else open.
Does the finder recognise the Mounted Blank DVD?
IF it does try burning a small file onto the blank DVD through the Finder.
If it fails what is the error that the Finder tells you?
    If this works then proceed
Use a Free App like Burn http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/Pages/English/home.html
Drag and drop your movie files then click Burn. Job Done. 
    Alternative
you should be able to burn using iDVD.

  • Dvd not recognized-error code 19-contact manufacturer.

My dvd is not recognized. I tried going to device mgr. and uninstall and then use action to get it reinstalled but I got a failed notice and said to go to manufacturer. What do I do now. Of course it is not in waranteee.
Also, on a lot of sites I try and go to all I get is squares and letters that don't make any sense.  I would just like my DVD to work. I have hardly used it. Since this is an all in one it isn't like I can just pull it out.

  • CS4 DVDs not recognized on OSX Lion

    Hi,
I just did a clean install of Lion on my mac and tried to install CS4 master collection from the dvd's I have but whenever I insert any of them the computer asks "what to do with this blank dvd"...
I tried any other dvd to make sure the dvd-palyer works fine and it works fine.
I tried installing them on a backup macbook I have and it works but unfortunately I need it installed on my main machine..
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Don't know about that one in particular, but there is a list of known issues that Adobe has found with their products on Mac OS 10.7 Lion:
Is Adobe Creative Suite software compatible with Mac OS X Lion (v10.7)?
Adobe and Apple have worked closely together to test that Adobe® Creative Suite® 5 and CS5.5 suite editions and individual products run reliably on Intel® based systems running Mac OS X Lion (v10.7) with optimal performance and user experience. Earlier versions of Adobe Photoshop® (CS3 and CS4) software were also tested with Lion, and issues that were discovered are being documented and addressed by working closely with Apple.
See the Knowledgebase article for known issues we have discovered in our testing.
As with any new release of an operating system, there may be additional unexpected issues that arise that were not uncovered during testing. If you encounter any issues, report them on our bug report form.

  • CD/DVD not recognized by Macbook Pro, 10.6.8

Computer info: MacBook Pro 15.4/2.8/2X2GB/500/SD; 2009, running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868
I have used CD's and DVD's before on this computer with this OS, without any problems
    Now:
all CD's show up as untitled, show as having no content, and are listed with burn symbol
    Commercial DVD works
DVD's made by professional videographers (school event) are ejected
All of the above are readily read and DVD's played, title and content, by my old PowerBook G4, running 10.3.9
I seldom use CD's or DVD's, so do not know how long this problem has existed, or what may have precipitated the problem.
    Appreciate responses!

I think you still wished for an answer to your Time Machine question, but wasn't sure. A Time Machine backup is a full backup unless you select to add items to the Exclude list. However, in and of itself a Time Machine is not a bootable backup. Using Snow Leopard you would have to boot the computer from a Snow Leopard DVD or some other disk in order to restore the backup to a fully erased internal drive.
If you preferred to have a fully bootable Snow Leopard backup, then you need to clone a working installation:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Leopard dvd not recognized by macbook pro

    hello,
i have a macbook pro running 10.4.10 and it doesn't recognize the leopard installation dvd. the same dvd works on my G4 and was successful with the upgrade. the macbook just ejects the dvd after i insert it. i am able to play movie dvd's and/or cd's on the same macbook pro.
    need help please.
    thank you!

    Hi coredumped,
I had the same problem today. I took my macbook pro to the Apple Store and they installed Leopard using a firewire drive. I don't really consider this a solution because my computer still ejects the Leopard disc after about 20 seconds and I can't update the Bootcamp drivers. If those things don't matter to you, you might just take it to an Apple Store (if that's an option).

  • Dvd not recognized

I have a Mac Book Pro 15 inch mid 2009 and dvd's are no longer recognized.
What is my problem and can it be fixed?  OS 10.9.3

    apele, welcome to the discussions.
As far as I know your Optical Drive will not handle DVD+ MEDIA at all.
You may even have trouble with some of the higher speed media as well.
I think if you check, and be sure to read the packaging.
I have been using Maxell DVD-R that boasts 1X-16X and will burn on your Drive.
    Cheers Don

  • Blank DVD not recognized

I built my project in Encore and checked the project for any errors and then clicked on Build to burn the project to a blank DVD, but I get an error message stating, Please insert DVD media, close the tray, and click OK. My DVD burner works with other applications so I know that the driver works. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

    John,
I have many problems with Adobe CS5. I have problems with CS4 and I have
    nowhere left to turn.
I have problems with Fireworks in both versions.  I can't associate image
file types with Fireworks CS4 or CS5  Adobe Support logged into two of my
computers and they were not able to solve the problem on either of my two 64
bit computers. They created new admin accounts on both machines. No change.
I went back to using Fireworks 8, which fits my work model better anyway
because I had to repeatedly "float windows" to build animated GIF files. I
totally gave up on that one.
I have problems importing Premiere Pro 1.5 project files in to Premiere
CS4 - Most of the AVI source files "cannot be imported" when loading a
prproj file. Error message:- "Cannot link media: selected file cannot be
linked because its type (audio) does not match the original file's type
(audio and video)".  If I import the files they appear as red boxes with
    Chinese writing.
I cannot build a DVD with Encore CS5. 1: click "Build - 2: Pop up screen
shows DVD, says "Drag file" Then the drive door opens and the pop up screen
goes away. 3: "Please insert DVD" - Close. Goes back to 2 with the pop up
    screen (endless loop).
Apparently all Adobe phone and chat support is in India. They keep asking
the same questions over and over and over: "What is the error message" -- I
tell them the error, then they ask "what is the error message"... etc. They
asked me to enter a URL for access - I get a gray screen. They said use a
different browser. I loaded the same URL in three other browsers, same
result. Then there was a "server error". I asked that they email me the URL
in case I wasn't understanding it.. I was told they do not have access to
email until after they have failed to solve a problem. Now that's logical!
Well, After Effects works, at least.  Dreamweaver "works" but they've just
managed to make it more difficult to use. They took things out that should
have been left alone. It now takes several steps to do what took one step in
CS3. The audio editing program distorts with my $80 USB microphone.
What am I to do at this point? I spent a lot of money and all I got was a
bunch of problems that nobody in India seems to have a clue how to fix. I am
informed that there is no one connected with Adobe support who speaks
English well enough to understand or be understood.
Sales (chat and phone) got my order wrong four times in a row, and when they
finally got it right they shipped it the wrong day.
AMD 64 - Windows XP Pro (4GB), Windows 7/32 Pro (4GB), Windows Vista Home
    Premium (4GB).
I'm building a new machine (Windows 7/64 Pro, 16GB RAM, AMD Phenom II x6).
Maybe something will work on it.
Needless to say, I am very disappointed with my large "investment" in Adobe.

  • DVDs not recognized

On my MacBook Pro the DVD superdrive suddenly stopped recognizing DVD disks. They never show up in the Finder and are ejected after about 30 seconds. CDs mount fine, even DVD burning works fine.
I already tried resetting the SMC and PRAM. Nothing helped.
Does anybody have any ideas what else to try?
    Thanks a lot!
The DVD drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-857, Revision HAEA

I have had exactly the same issue Powerbook G4 1.67 was burning several disks to day then all of a sudden the mac would not recognise a disk to burn, they are bog standard TDK DVD-R disks. so I have tried all the usual of running updates have updated to 10.5.2, installed the graphics card update and still no luck. There does not appear to be any reference from Apple to this problem so not at all sure what to do next.
    Have reset power management
    Have reset PRam
    Have rebuilt permissions
not much else I can think of doing to fix it
