CS4 PS won't print to USB Epson 4900

It does, however, print happily to a USB Epson 2200 plugged into the same machine. All other apps on this Mountain Lion Mac Mini, including CS4 Illustrator, print fine to the 4900.  I have tried both a USB and a network connection to the printer with the same result. There is *some* small output to the printer (just a flash on the print monitor), but no output results.  Suggestions?

Hi TLL
Thanks for your reply!  I guess I'd have to say no, it hasn't ever worked right, because this is a new installation on a new mac mini.  PS worked fine to that printer on my old mac G5, but it has yet to work from the mini.  Other info:  PS on the G5 will even print to that printer as an "attached printer" on the mini!  The only thing that won't print to the 4900 is PS running on the mini itself.
Drivers!  Epson warned not to use the install disk that came with the printer for Mountain Lion, so I got them online (actually did it several times).  That still seems the most likely problem, except that every other app on the mini, including Illustrator CS4 from the same cd as PS, prints fine.
I tried Colorbyte Imageprint, and it can print PS output to the printer, so all is not lost:  all is just weird and/or expensive.
Thanks!
Jack

I'm having similar problems with my Epson Stylus DX5000.  There was no in-built driver available (the generic old and new Stylus drivers didn't work), so downloaded the latest driver from Epson site.  It shows as being available to print to, but just sends data to the print queue then job disappears.
I hope you're right C F McBlob, I could do with printing today but if there are new drivers available from November 5, then so be it.

  • HP Photosmart B110a constantly goes offline and won't print via USB either

    Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8
    HP Photosmart B110
I've connected the printer to my wireless network without any issues, but when I first tried to connect my macbook pro to the printer, it would keep disappearing from the network. Once I finally managed to connect it, every time I go to print something now, it will always say it is offline. Even when I try and bypass the wireless connection and connect via USB, it will still say it is offline.
I've have tried reinstalling the printer and driver many times, and I've tried connecting 2 other macbooks via the wireless and all experience the same issue. It is starting to get incredibly frustrating having to reinstall the printer over and over again.
I would appreciate a solution that would prevent it from always going offline, even If I have to give up the wireless 'feature' and permanently print via USB. I do not have time to continuously fiddle with the settings every single time I need to print a document.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • IMac won't print black on EPSON or HP Printer

I have had a reoccuring problem where my iMac (Intel) running Mac OS X 10.8 will not print black type on my HP printer. First, I assumed it was an ink issue, and replaced the black ink cartridge. The problem remained. I downloaded new drivers and installed and still had the same problem. Cleaned heads, and still discovered black type will not print, while full-color images do. It got to the point where I assumed my printer was broken. So, I bought a new EPSON printer to replace it and am having the same problem. Re-installed EPSON drivers. Etc.
Now I have discovered if I save a file as a screenshot (PNG) it will print black. But will not print black off the Web, Numbers, Pages, etc.
Here's the kicker - I tried to print off my MacBook Air and encountered the same problem. Is the issue the printer or the OS?
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE ANY IDEAS AS TO WHY THIS WOULD BE?
The only thing common between the two printers is they both printed wirelessly.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/cups/error_log" from the file list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • Epson R280 printer won't print after Apple Epson driver update

I have a 27" iMac running Mountain Lion. I use an Epson R280 printer to print directly onto CD/DVD media. Have used this printer daily for over three years. After an Apple Epson Driver update, I get a 'communication error' message and cannot print. Uninstalled and reinstalled printer. Power cycled printer and rebooted iMac. No Change. Hooked up same printer to my MacBook Pro running Mavericks and printer works. Ideas?

Thanks, Eric. I had tried that previously, but had no luck. I would add the printer back in after Reset, and it still didn't work. The real key step which I found from a previous solution was taking the existing print drivers in Library/Printers/Epson and trashing that folder and then emptying the trash. With those drivers gone, when I rebooted and then powered up and added the printer, Apple prompted me to download new drivers, and 'Voila!'. Back up and running. Thanks much.

    Hi @richardskelt ,
I see by your post that you are unable to print over a USB connection on the 10.9 computer, but you can print on the Macbook and the Windows 7 laptop. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
Connect the printer directly to the Mac by the USB cable and run the Apple Updates to install the printer.
Check to make sure the correct driver for the printer name is listed.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (P1102w)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
    Test the printer.
If you are still having issues, please do the following:
Repair the Disk Permissions on the Mac:
    Close all applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, click Applications and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left.
Click Verify and then Repair Disk Permissions.
    Restart the computer..
    Reset the Printing System:
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Click the Apple icon ( ), and then click System Preferences.
    Click Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left white side panel, then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system.
Then click the + sign to add the driver, you might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name, then click on the Add button.
    Test the printer again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • LaserJet 5p won't print through USB to Parallel cable on Windows 7

I have a LaserJet 5p that works fine on an old DELL INSPIRON 600m laptop using a USB to parallel cable. When I attach the USB connector to my Gateway All-In-One (ZX6971) running Windows 7 Professional, it installed the 1284 driver and the HP LaserJet 5p
driver and informed me that my printer was ready to use. I have tried printing the Test Page and printing documents. The printer document dialog box indicates a status of Printing for a few minutes and then changes to Error - Printing.

As I said before, the cable and printer work fine with the old DELL laptop running Windows XP. There does not appear to be a compatibility issue between the cable and printer. I will look into a possible driver for the conversion cable.
Windows XP and Windows 7 are two (2) different operating systems.  Yes, they both share the name "Windows" and both share some core components, but just because something worked on Windows XP is absolutely no guarantee, or relationship, to how it works
on Windows 7.  Many, many things that work in/with Windows XP do not work in/with Windows 7.
In most cases Windows XP and Windows 7 do not use the same drivers to start with.

  • PSE 13 won't print to my Epson 845 Workforce printer.  Help anyone?

I get an error message that the saved printer information is not compatible with this version of PSE or the saved printer is no longer available and that I should check printer settings before printing.

Suggest that you go to the Epson web site to be sure that you have the most recent drivers installed on you computer.
If that fails, contact Epson support.

  • Epson Workforce 30 printer won't print

I have installed all the latest updates, including an Apple Epson printer update, and the printer driver from Epson's website.
Still this thing won't print. All that happens is an error in the printer queue.
    Anyone have any clues?

    Some suggestions to try
    Another USB cable
Turning off the Epson power for a minute and then back on again
Removing the print queue and adding it again
    Resetting the printing system
Note that when you reset the printing system the printers in Print & Fax are deleted, but not their printer drivers. So you don't need to run the printer driver installers again, you just need to add the print queues again. For a USB connected printer, this can be done by simply unplugging the USB cable and plugging it back into the Mac agian.
How to Reset the Printing System
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    4. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    5. Restart your Mac

  • Iphoto won't print to Epson Photomate Delux

I can print to my Epson Photomate Delux using PREVIEW and from PHOTOSHOP, but NOT from iphoto. When I try to print from iphoto, the pics go on hold in the print box. I have tried to hit RESUME, but it just goes back on hold. One other thing, the pics that load from PS or PREVIEW show their names, but the ones that import from iphoto all say "untitled."
Why can't iphoto talk to my printer? It used to work (I haven't used the printer in several months). I've downloaded new drivers, restarted everything, blah, blah, blah...all to the same result. Any thoughts? I'm plugged in using a USB cable.
    Thanks

One more thing, if the queue is stalled with multiple pics from different programs (PS, PREVIERW, ihphoto) printing will begin again after I delete the "untitled" pics from iphoto.
    Thanks.

  • ILife won't Print to Epson PictureMate

I just love iPhoto, but I can't get it to print to my Epson PictureMate. The PictureMate prints from memoery cards and will print a nozzle check from the iMac, but it goes through the motions of printing then indicates that it is 'Stopped'. The primter icon in the Dock shows a red exclamation mark!

I too was troubled by this issue, and after the second attempt got this response from Epson which solved the problem.
Thank you for contacting the Epson Connection.

desktop, then click CONTINUE, then CONTINUE again, then OK on the
    INSTALLATION WAS SUCCESSFUL screen.
    2. Open the new folder created by the extraction process.  It will appear
something like  epson1XXXX (X represents variable numbers).
    3. When you open this folder, you will find a file with a .DMG extension -
double-click it. This will create another icon on the desktop with the name
of your printer. Double-click to open the DISK IMAGE file.
NOTE: In most OS 10.3 systems the installer will perform this step
automatically and you will see an INSTALLER.PKG file.
    4. Double click the INSTALLER.PKG file to start the installation process.
    5. The next menu will prompt you to ensure that you have Administrator
Rights to install the printer driver.  Click on the lock (if necessary) and
    enter your password.
    6. The actual installation process will begin.  Click CONTINUE, then
CONTINUE again at the SOFTWARE AGREEMENT window, then CONTINUE again, then
    AGREE.
    7. You will be prompted to select a disk to install the printer to. Select
the appropriate Macintosh HD or OS X drive or partition and click CONTINUE.
    8. In the next window that appears, click INSTALL.
    9. You may be informed that the computer needs to be restarted after
installation; click CONTINUE INSTALLATION here.  The driver will now be
installed and the system optimized. Restart the computer when install is
    complete.
    Configuration
    1.  Make sure that your printer is turned on and connected to your
    computer.
    2.  Open the HARD DRIVE, go into the APPLICATIONS, and select the UTILITIES
    folder.
    3.  Double click on the PRINTER SETUP UTILITY. If your printer is listed
correctly, close out of the windows and test your printer, as it is already
    installed.
    4.  Click the Add tab at the top of the Printer Browser window and then
select More Printers tab at the bottom of the Printer Browser window and
then select  Epson USB and then select your printer under Product Name. If
applicable select the arrow by the Standard option under the Page Setup
option and select the All option. If not simply click on ADD.
    5.  Close out of any open windows and test your printer. Please make sure
that you select the correct printer in the page setup and print menu of the
    application.

  • PDF won't print to Epson 545

PDFs (Adobe Reader 10.1.4) will not print to my Epson 545 from my Mac (OS 10.6.8). Other apps print fine, only Adobe won't, and it provides a printer error "err number 13", which seems to mean there is no paper (there is paper tho' - lots). I've followed instructions from other threads for other Epson models but to no avail. Any one got a solution? Thanks.

    You're Welcome Gari!
The driver on the disc may be outdated. Did you uninstall the older driver before trying to install the newer, downloaded one?
If nothing else resolves the problem, and you need help doing that, I can post the instructions.
"...stating that there is not enough RAM."
OS X uses Dynamic Memory Allocation, so I am puzzled that you are getting that message.
What is the exact error message?
How much of the RAM is original, and how much is added?
Is Classic running when you are trying to print?
Do the printers function from any applications, other than Photoshop?
You can also use Rember to test your RAM.
"My ibook is more than happy to print to both printers..."
Are you printing from Photoshop with the iBook?
Have you deleted the printers from the Printer List in Printer Setup Utility, and then re-added them?
Have you trashed the printer & Photoshop pref files from:
HD > Users > Your Account > Library > Preferences: HERE?
Sorry for all of the questions. I'm just trying to explore all of the possibilities, to get a better understanding of the situation.

  • I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it won't print. What is AirPrint and how do I connect it?

I have a new Epson wireless printer connected and the iPad recognizes it but it still won't print.  What is AirPrint & how do I connect to it?

    Patti-
Is your Epson printer on Apple's list of AirPrint capable printers?  See <http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356>.
If it is an AirPrint printer, then your WiFi router may not correctly handle Bonjour data required by AirPrint.  Contact the router's manufacturer to see if there is a change to its setup or a firmware update, that will make it work.
One other possibility is that there could be a print job stuck in the iPad's print queue.  Double click the iPad's Home button and a row of recent Apps will appear along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and see if the Print Center is there.
