CS4 psd file display problem

For some reason within the last few months a problem with the colors that Photoshop is displaying in the application. The colors are not actually wrong if you check the color picker, it's just how it actually looks when you're working on it. In addition, when you are moving the tab in Photoshop if it's not maximized, the color is correct.
How it currently looks:
How it should and does look when actually moving the file within Photoshop
Has anyone seen this?

Actually that was only half of it...next is to see if an updated video card driver can fix the problem permanently. Check with the GPU manufacturer's site (ATI/NVidia).
What happened was probably that Windows update delivered a buggy (and outdated) driver. Next time check "hide this update" and it won't show up again.

why can't I see the layers from cs4 .psd files passed to me in photoshop elements 11?

You should be able to see normal layers, but PSE doesn't understand layer groups/sets or comp layers. The inexpensive add-on elements+ from simplephotoshop.com will let you expand layer groups. (If you also have Premiere Elements installed you should be able to see layer groups in PSE without adding anything.)

  • Photoshop CS4 - Saving file displays a Quicktime Preview Error

    Hi,
I recently transferred my system from an iMac to a Macbook Pro (OS X 10.6.3). Everything seems to work except every time I now go to save a file in Photoshop (CS4) it displays a message: "Could not build a preview because of a problem with Quicktime"
I've searched forums, un-installed and re-installed Photoshop and still no fix. Even setting save Preview to 'never' in Photoshop Preferences does not help. Has anyone seen this? Is there a preferences or permission that I need to fix or trash in Quicktime?

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I also tried reinstalling Quicktime X from the install disk (using the Pacifist application), still did not fix. I did however find that setting the Save preview preferences then closing and re-starting Photoshop does sort of fix the problem. With the Macintosh preview disabled the message does not appear so yes I would say it's an OS problem.
Would still be nice to know if there is an actual fix, as yet I haven't seen the error in any other application.
Update: I also found 'copy to clipboard' and 'paste into PS' also did not work! So after a day of erasing the MacPro hard drive and re-installing the OS and all applications from scratch everything seems to work correctly. Seems Apple's migration from one computer to another really doesn't work that well.

  • Saved layered .psd files display text in preview column

    Hi,
I have layered files that I have saved. When I view my files in column format, in the preview area, text appears, not the image. I can't read the text as it is so tiny. Even when I magnified it I couldn't red it. It just seems to happen to files saved as .psd, not to jpegs.
Has this happened to other people? If you have a solution, other than flattening the file, as I wish to save the layers, please help me. Thank you in advance.

    >When I view my files in column format, in the preview area, text appears, not the image. I can't read the text as it is so tiny.
Meaning you are previewing in the Finder?
That is possibly because you have an Alpha channel in the file.
If you learn to use Bridge CS4, instead of using the Finder, you won't have this problem.

  • CS4 extended file open problem in Windows 7

I am having a little spot of trouble. I switched from Windows to Mac recently and got myselfa copy of Photoshop CS5. I used to run Photoshop CS4 on a 32bit Windows 7 build and it works swell. Not a hitch. I've since moved CS4 onto a 64bit Windows 7 build and... it crashes when I open an image. Any image I've tried opening causes CS4 to crash.
I wonder if any of you would have a solution. I guess the only other piece of information I can talk about is that there's a version of Photoshop Elements 8 already installed on the system but I don't know if that would conflict or not.

Since you're probably still familiar enough with Windows to do maintenance, it sounds like what you're running into may be a display driver problem with OpenGL on your system...
Try this as a workaround:  Go into Photoshop, choose Edit - Preferences - Performance, and uncheck [ ] Enable OpenGL Drawing, then restart Photoshop.
If this works around the problem, visit the web site of the maker of your video card and locate the display driver that matches your hardware and Windows 7 x64 OS.  Download and install, then go back into Photoshop and reverse the above change (remembering to restart Photoshop after).
    Good luck.

  • CS4 Action Script display problems

I've just used Flash CS4 for the first time after using CS3 for some time.  When using the Action Script window to write code I had the strangest problem.  When writing or pasting code in the AS window the last couple of letters or characters get cut off.  I checked my preferences and they were they same as they were in CS3 (just to be sure).  Both CS3 & CS4 both have the Monaco font as the default.  I solved the problem by changing the fint to Arial.  Now the AS displays properly.
Wondered if anyone has seen this happen and if they knew if it was a bug or something?
I'm using CS4 with a newer MacBook Pro and sing AS2 in this project.
    Thanks so much!
    BC

first button is called Enter and it is btn1 in the libary, i would like that to navigate to scene 2 frame 1. this was a graphics and i converted it to a button have also tried making it a movie clip it still doesn't work. the second button is Autobiogtaphy and it is btn2, i would like that to be navigated to the frame 10 and the frame is called About. I have CS4 and i realised all the stop actions worked when i saved it in CS3 and opedned it back up so since then  i have been using that format. im also using AS3 if that makes any difference.
So i realised i haven't been much help on details hope this helps

  • CS4 .indd file association problem

    Hi folks,
I'm running a PC with XP and recently upgraded my software from CS3 to CS4. My computer has stopped associating .indd files with InDesign. I've tried to set the file association manually using the Open With command though InDesign doesn't appear as an available program. When i browse for InDesign and try to set it as the default program it still ignores it. The only way to get a file to open is to go into InDesign first and then do File->Open.
    Any tips would be appreciated,
    Cheers

This is a long way away from the original post date, but maybe someone else will have the same issues...
    (taken from another post)
    So I went into the Registry, HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command, and changed the (Default) from "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1" (so changed CS5 to CS6) - and now I see 'Adobe Photoshop CS6' in my 'Open with' list when right-clicking an image...
Follow the same steps to re-associate files from other Adobe programs.
The issue is when you install, let's say CS5 and CS6 at the same time, then remove the first install, your associations are uninstalled also.

  • CS4 minimize / maximize display problem

I have ID CS4, Windows XP Pro SP2. Matrox Millenium P650 PCIe 128, latest driver. (updating the driver made no difference)
If I minimize the program, and then maximize it, only the panels appear, not the main program window. (this happens not every time, but very often) Sometimes only the control bar appears; I can then bring back the panels one by one by clicking on the screen, but not the main window. (I have all the panels on a second monitor)
I can close the program with Ctrl+Q. If there is an open document, I can hear the sound for the Do you want to save dialog, but the dialog itself can't be seen. I press N for no, or Y for yes, and the program closes.
When this happens, all other open programs become unresponsive, until I manage to close ID.
I also have Photoshop and Dreamweaver CS4 installed, and they do not have this problem.

I occasionally have problems when opening the program, i.e. I see only a tiny title bar in the upper left of my screen, but I can get it to maximize from the task bar, and it only happens on opening.
I've not experienced any issues closing down. I run XP SP2, but only one monitor. Re both monitors running at native resolution? This sounds to a degree like the old problem with dialogs drawing off-screen.

  • Can't Relink/Replace PSD Files to New Source...

Hi! I'm having a very odd problem. This file is called "red.ai".
Each swatch is a clipping mask of a different, embedded .psd file. (Swatch 1 = Layer 1 = 1.psd)
Each swatch is on it's own layer.
What I need to do is make a copy of the "red" file, call it "green" (for example) and replace each swatch with the set of green .psd files. (I've got to do this for 10 colors!)
The problem is when I go to place OR relink from the Links window, the .psd file displays as red. Doesn't matter if I browse to the green psd files, purple psd files, or any other color. It's like it's stuck on the path to the red files. If I open a new Illustrator file, the psd's link fine.
Help! I'm trying to keep from getting carpal tunnel.
    Specs....
    PC
    Illustrator CS3

I don't think that is the problem but I would create a new document and copy everything from the corrupt document and paste into the new one. Save it and see if it is working properly.

  • CS4 impage display problem at zooms less than 200%

I upgraded from CS1 to CS4 yesterday and immediately encountered a problem with the way Photoshop (not Bridge) displays images to the monitor. At zooms of less than 200%, the image that appears is divided into squares in which the correct picture is displayed below each square's diagonal and solid vertical lines of color are displayed above the diagonal. I've checked jpeg, tiff, and psd files. At 200% or higher, everything is fine. This problem does not happened in CS1.
Has anyone seen this problem before?
    Dell XPS 420
    ATI Radeon HD 2600XT
(I checked and the driver is up to date)

Open GL takes a lot of video horsepower, but even high end video cards don't always work perfectly. There may be more than one thing going there. Adobe is still working on problem. But if you have low end card it will probably never work as PS intended.
Read the posts on lag problems and which cards are recommended to work with CS4.

  • PSD files will not print from Photoshop CS4 (previously posted in Acrobat printing and prepress)

My questions are: Does the PSD file have the printer information encoded?
Also why has this just started to show up? My wife has work successfully under the same conditions, files moved and printed on different printers, with no problems in the past.
I (we) have been struggling with a recent problem trying to print PSD files from Photoshop CS4. (Vista 32 bit, Epson 3880 networked) When trying to print certain, but not all, PSD files I get the message: "Before you can perform printer-related tasks such as page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer." I have been in contact with Adobe support about the issue but with little in the way of positive results. I was referred to a kb link: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/409/kb409119.html Tried all that to no avail. (The first suggestion is absurd to the point of making me wonder what process is used to construct the kbs. You cannot open the print menu when you get this message so....?)
Other solutions are not acceptable for the work my wife is doing, editing high quality photographs for an exhibition with test prints and so on. We are under intense time pressue with four shows coming up in a very short time. The final solution offered is that CS5 has solved all of this. Hum? interesting. No comment except new program, new problems so not a real solution for us.
In searching the web about this problem I have come across many other people with the same problem working from different platforms and even different Adobe products. I noticed that the MAC OS seemed to cause the same problem and that there was a problem with Reader and Acrobat. In every case the problem is never solved by Adobe or anyone else and users find some "workaround". I too have found what we hope is a workaround in our contiued travels on the blogosphere, on flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/wellington/discuss/72157621548183001/ as "...a nasty, nasty solution" but we skipped the flatten part and the GIMP part and resave the PSD under a different name.
Adobe does seem supportive but not that interested (CS4 right) but I would like to find a real solution and I think many people would benefit from it.
Anyway what I have found is that the PSD files that will not print have been printed on another printer at some time in the past. In my case the Printer was an Epson Artisan A50. The printer we are using now is the Epson Stylus Pro 3880. Even when trying to print wirelessly to the 3880 from the laptop (Was Vista, now Windows 7) that was used to edit and print with the A50, (USB connection) we saw the same error. So it seems that the printer information is somehow embedded in the PSD file (also mentioned in a Blog) and is keeping PS from seeing the printer because the same printer is not there.
Has anybody already found the fix?
I know this is a long post but I have been working on this problem and have heard all of the pat and frankly useless answers and workarounds. Can we find a solution and fix the problem?

Just a few examples, since you ask:

  • Photoshop CS4 11.0.1  crash upon save, leaves small sized corrupt PSD file

    Hi!
I've just updated our retouchers Photoshop CS4 to 11.0.1 but one of the issues we had with 11.0.0 remains. The problem doesn't happen that often, but since the result is an unusable .PSD file it's pretty nasty...
Sometimes when saving Photoshop crashes and the .PSD that was to be saved becomes a small (68 KB in the last example) and unusable.
    The hardware/software we have:
Mac Pro 2.66 GHz (some with 5 GB RAM and some with 9 GB RAM)
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
Photoshop CS4 Standard (updated to 11.0.1)
People work on server volumes shared via AFP. I've heard saving over the network isn't supported, but there's no other way, plus this issue never happened in CS3 so...
Any ideas on what can be done?

This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that
    normally, it does work
, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • QuickView, Preview.. etc. Can't Display PSD files

I've been having this problem for some time now - as far back as can remember with OS X.
When I try to view a psd file, (prior to Lep) in Preview or Xee, all I get is the transparent Alpha Channel - ie usually a solid blank neutral gray or checker board white and gray.  And as of Leopard (and Snow Leo), this situation now includes Quickview.  I get no actual image, or sometimes part of an image displayed, but never the full image that is displayed in PS or PSE.
The ONLY exceptions to this problem I have found is an ancient app called ACDSee v1.6.9 (2001) and Quicktime Player.  Both display psd files perfectly.
The preferences to save Image Previews: Always Save, Icon, Full Size, Mac Thumbnail, Windows Thumbnail.
Am I saving psd files wrong somehow so that the default system apps can not display psd files properly?
BTW - this problem is completely consistent on EVERY system I have tried it on regardless of the OS X version (Tiger, Leo, Snow Leo) and Photoshop version (PSE 2, 4, 5, 6; PS 7, CS1, CS2).
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  This is a very irritating problem..
    TIA

This isn't an issue or something you are doing incorrectly, PSD is an Adobe format that is not widely supported.  You need to open it within your Adobe application, such as Photoshop.
