CS4 Refresh of Menu Bar

CS4 on Win XP
If I open a dialog window (for example, edit/Color Settings or help/about)
and close the dialog, a single blank line appears in the middle of the menu
line (from File to X). If I minimize/restore PS window, the menu line
returns to normal. If I mouse over an item on the menu line, its appearance
returns to normal.
Any solution or setting to fix this?

I am running 11.0.1.
Preferences/Performance/GPU Settings is grayed out with the message, "No
GPU options available with Photoshop Standard."
If OpenGL is present on your system, you can enable it in Photoshop
Preferences.
1 Do one of the following:

Since it is grayed out I cannot enable OpenGL.
Preferences/General/Enable Flick Panning is disabled since OpenGL is not

6.14.10.6451 6/24/2004).

is broken. I did go to http://support.amd.com/us/Pages/AMDSupportHub.aspx
and downloaded FirePro_8.563_XP32_74139.exe (ATI FireGL/Pro/MV Software
Suite Multilanguage revision 8.563 dated 2/4/2009) Description: Package
Includes: Display Driver ATI Catalyst Control Center HDMI Audio Driver
(Multi-Language)).
I installed the new driver ATI (version 8.563.0.0 dated 12/10/2008).
After the driver update, Preferences/Performance/GPU Settings is still
grayed out with the message, "No GPU options available with Photoshop
Standard."
I clicked OK -- the problem remains.
What do I now need to do?

Cs4/Cs5 PS - Menu bar drives me nuts

Is that possible to eliminate that gap between the top menu bar and the top screen edge?
It's very irritating that when I move my mouse to the top edge I cannot unfold menus with a click. I have to move the pointer down
a bit. It's like shooting ducks and hinders work.
I saw that in Cs4 trial but hoped it would be brought back to normal in cs5 when finally I want to upgrade.
Hope I'm missing some settings...

Yes Jesper, couldn't be further from truth - the area at the top alongside the edge is for functionalities reserved for windows, not necessarily for unfolding menus.
However, previous versions (at least the ones I've been using 7-9) allowed for 3 modes of workspace - 1 stnd and 2 full screen (with and without menu bar).
The difference with CS4/Cs5 is that when working in mode 2 - full screen + menu bar, you can NO LONGER access/unfold menus by clicking at the very edge of the screen.
Since I've grown used to that for years, it's really frustrating and odd that it has been changed. Apart from keyboard shortcuts I do use menu a lot and now
the workflow is hindered indeed.
It was simultaneous with the 'application frame' introduced in CS4 - probabaly then this dead area in full screen mode appeared.
To be precise and well-understood - it is an issue in FULL SCREEN PLUS MENU BAR.

Width of vertical menu bar

I am using Spry 1.6.1 which came with my copy of Dreamweaver CS4 on my Mac.
I am trying to use the vertical tab menus, but am having a bit of a challenge (you can see what I am working on here: <http://www.billiantlysimple.com/Menus.html>).
My first 'challenge' is with changing the width. I have followed the instructions in the help, on Dreamweacer CS4 Customize the Menu Bar widget here:

However, the main menu width seems to be controlled by width: 8em; in ul.MenuBarVertical in SpryMenuBarVertical.css. Changing this value to 'auto' simply make the menu the page width, so I am assuming the only way to control the width is to manually change it. Following the suggestions in the help, I set width: to auto and this works well on the sub menus.
The second 'challenge' is on Safari 5.03 on my Mac the background-color looks how I would like to top appear. However, in Internet Explorer 8.0 the background-color to the right of the text is not shown. The help suggests using 'transparent' as the color, but even changing this does not help matters.
I can workaround the first issue, but the second is more of a problem.
Assuming that I had made a error when making the changes suggested in the help I deleted everything I had done and started again. Again I had the problem, so I started for a third time and still the problem remained.

I believe that I have worked out the background-colr issue in Internet Explorer.
There would appear to be CSS element named ul.MenuBarVertical li.MenuBarItemIE and if I add a background-color to this then it gets sorted out.

Can not locate where to find refresh button to put on menu bar

I do not find the refresh icon on menu bar as before, the print icon is the only one there. I went to customize toolbar and the icon was not there. Please help, need to refresh pages. Thank you.

Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload and Stop and Go button that appears at the right end of the location bar.
* Open the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window to move the Stop and Reload button out of the location bar.
* Move the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the location bar.
* Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
* Set the order to "Stop - Reload" or separate them otherwise to get two distinct buttons.

Photoshop CS4 - Menu bar background is showing as black

Hi all,
I've been attempting to change the background colour of the menu bar of my photoshop, for some reason instead of being a white background with black text, i have the below.
The machine I am running has:
Photoshop CS4
Win 7 64 Bit
4GB of Ram

If you have not set an oddball theme on the desktop (which Photoshop mostly ignores), it could be that you have a video driver glitch.
I think the first thing I'd try is this: Right-click on the open desktop, choose Personalize, then save your current theme. Now select the Windows 7 theme, just to make sure everything's set in a known way.
Does the problem persist?
If so, then it's likely a video driver update will help... Visit the web page of the maker of your video card, locate the latest driver version for your hardware and version of Windows, download, and install.

Cs4 full screen mode w/ menu bar no longer can scroll picture off edges

In earlier versions' full screen mode with menu bar, if I zoom into a photo I can scroll the edge of the photo away from the windows edge, making it easier to select and work on the corners of the photo.
In cs4, I can't get that to work. Any ideas?

Works for me... What graphics card? Screen resolution? General computer info?

PS CS4 menu bar sometimes disappears (parts of it)

Now and then, part of my menu bar disappears - the section just to the right of "help" - I think the first icon for this particular bar is to open Bridge. I've included a screen shot of my issue - notice that area seems to show my desktop (or whatever is open behind PS). I think this has something to do with my graphics card. I have a nVidia GEForce 9500 GT (driver version 6.14.11.9107 from 9/27/09). The driver is current. When this issue comes up, I have to literally reboot for that secion of the menu bar to reappear. Simply logging off and back on doesn't do it. When this menu bar section "does" appear, when I mouse over the icons, the "roll over" icon is blank - or just solid grey. I don't think that is how it's supposed to look.
I've also had trouble (recently and in the near past) with my "show grid" setting (reference: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/493932?tstart=0). For example, I would create a document 72px x 72px @ 72ppi - make my grid visible (grid settings are set to show 1 grid line every 1px & 1 subdivision). When zooming into any corner of the image, I could see the grid lines were offset (example images on my reference post) - this is not to be confused with the pixel grid. I'm wondering if these issues are related to each other and/or because of my graphics card. The grid line offset issue was previously fixed by deleting my preferences, but sine this is happening again, my guess is something is causing the "grid" to show improperly. I've tested with and without GPU enhancements enabled in PS preferences. I just can't find a common thread in which causes these issues.
If I still have your attention, I would like to add an "off topic" issue (maybe somoene reading this can help on the other issue too). In reference to http://forums.adobe.com/thread/508982?tstart=0, no one has really been able to answer this or confirm/deny they get the same results. This has to do with viewing document size, and the unit of measurement seems to get stuck on cm (I want it to remain on inches like it always did with CS3) - maybe I should go back to CS3. Whenever I have rulers set to pixels, the document size locks to cm. The only way I can see inches in document size is if my rulers are set to inches. To me, it makes sense to have rulers set to pixels (for many reasons), but when it comes time to print, change canvas size, etc., I want to see the document size in inches. I don't know if this is normal, but when I go to create a new document, in the preset drop down list for "default photoshop size", it's unit is cm. Could that have something to do with my cm issue? I'm already made sure my regional settings are US, and unit settings are set according to attached image (unitSettings.jpg).
At this point, I'm going mad because these little bity querks just drive me up the wall to the point I can't get anything done because I'm always troublshooting.If anyone can shed some light on any/all of these topics, you would save me from slicing a wrist or two Thanks...

Are you having rendering issues with other software or just with Adobe PS CS4?
At the moment, I'm not really using any other programs which would call for any rendering. Videos seem to play fine, so other than PS, I'm not using any other programs.
Did you update CS4 to 11.0.1?
I just did, so I guess I have to play the waiting game now. The roll over issue I mentioned before is still giving me just a gray square roll over state. I don't know what (if anything) is supposed to show on roll over. What do you see when you roll over any of those buttons?
Also you might want to update Directx. I know it has nothing to do with
opengl but some posters in the past have reported that some things got
better.

When I tried to update at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b -bc6a-9b6652cd92a3, and install, I would get this error Even though I meet the requirements for this update, something is not letting me. I even made sure my Cryptographic Services was enabled and started. When opening PS, there were times I would get an error something to the effect that PS had a problem with the display driver so something or another was disabled (which I'm thinking it was just not allowing open GL drawing (which was usually around the time I would notice that menu bar section I posted about previously).
Also sometimes newer video card drivers are not the best drivers for a
given application. Have you went back to a set of older drivers to see
if that may cure the problem?
I've rolled back my graphics driver. Will have to wait and see if that solved anything.
As for
the ruler problem some people, from what I have read, have the same or
simular issue. There is a recent thread about 2 or 3 days ago that had
a ruler problem and I don't think it was fixed.
The recent thread was probably mine. I didn't mean to double post about that topic, but sometimes when just one person responds (and usually doesn't have anything helpful to say), others will just pass up that post. This issue is maddening, so maybe one day it will fix itself or I will move on.

You can't. Any version before Creative Cloud does not support high-DPI displays and that is just that. If you cannot adjust the system's screen resolution and so on, then there is nothing you can do.

I made a mistake some how. I am not the best a computer new things like the new avg changes with the search. I want back my old menu bar. I want to be able to open a new tab without having a search window open. I don't like to new tiny "file at the top it doesn't help me. I want back the ability to click the little refresh button. CS4 Help with spry menu bar. Want Top Centered and Subs left-justified.

Hi there, using DW8 mostly, but have the trial version of CS4
for the spry menu bar. WinXP.
Can someone help me with the spry menu bar on this page? I'd
like the main menu to be centered, as it looks better for

Firefox menu bar is hidden and refresh didn't help

Hi, Firefox menu bar is hidden and refresh didn't help. It is not available if I right click the top of the screen beside tabs. I cannot find or restore it on the customize page. I have tried 3 or 4 solutions, and none worked.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).

Menu bar icons continually refreshing

Every 15 seconds or so, all of the items on the right side of menu bar - including the clock, but excluding the Notification Center icon - disappear and rebuild themselves. This started yesterday when I upgraded to OS X 10.8.2. I've removed all of the third party apps from the menu bar and it is still happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

disable the spotlght icon. the service will still run in the background. you're just hidng the icon.

To reemphasize, this does not disable Spotlight or mds, it only hides the icon from the menubar.
Launch the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities/ and type the following command string exactly:
sudo chmod 600 /System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/MacOS/Search
Hit return, and then you will need to kill a process called “SystemUIServer” to refresh the menubar in OS X and have the change take effect:
killall SystemUIServer

Menu Bar Refresh Failure

When I'm switching applications (say from iTunes to iMovie) by clicking on the iMovie window, sometimes the menu bar fails to update to reflect the iMovie application (now the frontmost app). The menu bar remains iTunes. I am in the app and can control everything, but the menu bar doesn't work on the left side (like it's frozen, but no beach ball). To remedy this seemingly random issue, I simply switch to another app (like the Finder) and then switch back to iMovie and the menu bar refreshes and works fine. What could be wrong?

After 20 years of Macs I switched from TIGER to Leopard this weekend and am having a similar problem-- actually my menu bar seems to "freeze" and sometimes going to the FINDER then back to a program (like Safari or iCal-whatever) still doesn't work.
I've tried eliminating all my shareware / add-ins -- but it just did it again, and only thing running was FINDER, DragThing and iCal. I come back to the computer after it has sat idle 5-10 minutes, click on the WINDOW item in the menu bar and nothing-- no reaction -- worked fine 10 minutes before; 10 minutes later-- zip.
This will drive me insane-- it will drive me back to TIGER if this continues-- can I re-install TIGER over LEOPARD? I don't want to-- I spent hours getting set for this move (months!) -- but can't live like this.

I "upgraded" to FF5 and now have no refresh or stop icons in the menu bar, nor are they available on the "personalize" menu. How do I get them back?

The idea is that the button on the end of the location gar is smart and changes between being a stop or a reload button. It is a stop button whilst loading and a reload button once loaded.
The buttons can be dragged off the customise menu, or if they are already on the toolbar they may be re-positioned, they combine depending on the order they are in, separate them or move them so they swap places, instead of docking with the location bar.

Spry Menu Bar CS4

I have used the horizontal Spry Menu Bar for the navigation for my website. I used a tiered system because I needed two levels of drop downs for the menu. When we loaded the site to the web yesterday it worked fine on Mozilla but there was a glitch on IE. Instead of dropping down in a stacking order, the submenus would be lined up horizontally along the screen in a long line. I'm not sure if I need to edit the .css file for the spry menu bar, or the .js file. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Note: I've attached the javascript code AND the css code for reference.

I was just struggling with this, too. I think I have it fixed -- it's looking good in IE7 and IE8 (my standalone of IE6 has conflicts and refuses to open this morning).
You need to update the CSS. Give this a try.
ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li
    clear:left;
    float: none;
    background-color: transparent;
     color: #878189;
Take a look -- the menus should be displaying vertically in a list in IE, but you'll see the background color isn't extending to fill the entire list box.
So add the background-color property with the correct color to the ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul entry.
I haven't gone through your code line by line, but those two changes fixed it for me. Let me know if it works.
