CS4 saving two files

Hi Guys,
First of all why can't I use my screen name? Such a pain.
And speaking of pain, whenever I save a new Illustrator .eps it's saving two. One with the -01.
Does any have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I was under the impression I was only using one artboard but that's probably it! Which would make it a default, boooo. But yaaaay! thank you
so much for the help, it was drving me nuts. I haven't had much time to get into the artboard functionality.
I couldn't log in with Pointyhat, had to change it to Pointyhat! Like Pointyhat with jazz hands. "The screenname Pointyhat is unavailable" Yes, because it's been mine for the last 8 years.

  • Illustrator CS4 saving two copies of EPS each time

Hi all. My copy of Illustrator CS4 for Mac has recently started saving two copies of every EPS file that I save – eg. if I create an illustration, then choose "Save as" and save my file, I get "name.eps" and "name-01.eps". Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Scott,
"Use Artboards" was checked, and unchecking it has solved the issue – although I was only using one artboard.
    Thanks for your help.

  • CS4 saved .tif files cannot be read by other programs

    I recently upgraded Photoshop from CS2 to CS4 (11.0.1).
If I use CS4 to save a large multi-layered Photoshop .psd file as .tif (Layer/Flatten image/Discard hidden layers),  (File/Save as .tif, LZW, Interleaved, IBM PC) the resultant .tif file cannot be read by many other programs.
File viewers (Faststone, MS Paint, QT Picture Viewer, Windows Photo Gallery) either fail to display the images, display the images incorrectly, or display a black screen.
Neat Image fails to open the files due to incorrect bit depth.
(Faststone shows the bit depth as 40 bits).
PTLens fails to open the files with the dialog "Only RBG images are supported".
This has become a significant problem, since I routinely distribute images to others as .tif files.
Similar Photoshop CS2 saved .tif files open with all the above viewers/programs with no problems. (no longer have CS2 installed)
    Any workaround???
    Thanks

What color mode is the image?
      RGB color
    What bit depth?
      8 bits/channel
    Does the image include transparency?
      no
Does the image have any alpha channels?
      no
How large is the file on disk? (most apps won't read files over 2 Gig)
      165MB

  • Illustrator CS4 saves two files?

Hi all, hopefully someone can help?
When I save a file as an .eps from Illustrator it also saves the same file but adds _01 onto the end so I end up with twofiles saved of th same thing? Does anyone know how to stop this?
    Many thanks,
    S

Hi, here if what is happening. When you save as EPS, in the Save Dialog, if you have the "Use Artboard" checked and the Ratio button set to all, Illustrator will save all Artboard into individual eps file AND also save one EPS that include all artboards in the file. This even if you have only one artboard in your file. That why in your case you have what look like two similar EPS files created. To eliminate that behavior you have two choice. (1) Uncheck the "Use Artboard" or in the Range field enter 1 instead of using the "All" Ratio.
One things worth mentioning, is that when using the  "Use Artoard" option all artboard saved as EPS is also getting clipped to the bounding of the artboard itself including Bleed setting if one is defined in the document. (Illustartor automaticly adding a clipping). When this option if Off, Illustrator will not clip the content to the artboard, but will use the bounding box of all objects in the document as the bounding box attributes.

  • Illlustrator CS4 saving duplicate file

Lately when I save a file in illustrator, a pop up box comes up and says "some of the specified files already exist in the targe location. The files marked below will be replaced:" Then it proceeds to save a file with the file name that I have specified plus another with with the same file name but with "-01.eps" tagged on to the end. (I attached a screen shot.)
This never used to happen. Did I turn on some feature, and if so, can I turn it off?

On the bottom of the Save As dialog, make sure there is no check in Use Artboards.
When this is checked when saving in EPS, the file is saved once with all the art from all the artboards in one EPS file, plus a separate EPS file for each individual artboard.
If there is only one Artboard in the file, you end up with 2 identical files, one of which has -01 appended to the name.

  • CS4 Save as creates two files

When "saving" or "saving as" legacy files two files get saved. One has the suffix added as "-01". Is there a preference to turn off because I have to keep going back to kill the duplicate file.
    Mac OSX 10.4.11
    Illustrator version 14.0.0 (CS4)
    Thanks in advance, Bob

do you have more than 1 artboard?  Uncheck the option of saving artboards. But think, if you do this, you are going to save the current artboard and lose the others....

  • Saving a flash file from cs3 to cs4 ruins the file!

Last time I used flash for an urgent commission I discovered a very heavy bug, which did cost me half a day of work and nearly the whole commission. What happened:
I saved a flash file originally created with Flash CS4 as CS3 because the Actionscript programmer did not have a newer version. When I reopened the changed file and typed CMD+S it saved the file without warning. This was momentous: when I re-opened the file, only the library contents did show up, the timeline and stage was empty. Trying to publish the movie again resulted in a program crash. Thus I had to rebuilt the whole flashfile from scratch the next day and calm down a very nervous (and important) customer. Since then I always chose "Save as" and change the format to "CS3", and – how about that! – the file stays intact.
So HOW can a software have a glitch like this be on the market? I would suggest to Adobe that the rework the whole code because flash seems to be very poorly coded. I experienced numerous minor bugs in the last years, but this one beats them all. You save a file and ruin it.
If anybody else has experienced this, I would like them to share their experiences. Not just with me – share them with the people responsible for this. Write to Adobe.
    kind regards,
    tomasio

Just save.  It'll open in previous versions.
BUT if you used features that are specific to CS6 (like vector strokes) those may not show up in previous versions.
If you want everything to show, flatten the image and save a copy.
If you want to show the structure of the file - avoid features that are new in CS6 and save as PSD..

  • Weird CS4 error when saving eps files on a Mac: "...specified files already exist in the target location"

    Hi There,
All 3 workstations in our studio are experiencing weird file behavior when re-saving eps files from Illustrator.
Basically Illustrator creates a new file in addition to the original and adds a "-01.eps" onto the file name. If you re-save your original, Illustrator brings up a dialogue box that states:
Some of the specified files already exist in the target location. The files marked below will be replaced:
    filename.eps
    filename-01.eps
We've been deleting the "-01.eps" files each time but it's becoming tedious. The behaviour occurs when re-saving an eps file to a server or the desktop.
All machines are new Quad-core MacPros running:
    - Leopard 10.5.8
    - Illustrator CS4 14.0.0
We've checked for Illustrator updates from within Illustrator but we seem to be running the latest version.
Is anyone else experiencing this behavior?
Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks for the reply.
The error occurs when we save the document but if we choose save as, "Use Artboards" seems to be unchecked so not sure if this issue is related or not. Will re-save the document using save as then see if the issue persists.
Why do we still use eps?
Basically because we've found it to be much more compatible. Our entire logo library is in eps format (18 years worth) partly because it was previously the only format to use and partly because it allows account managers to send logos to clients, printers, TV stations etc and not involve the studio (saving out an eps version).
Although "Create PDF compatible file" is a good idea, we've encountered costly issues with colours and images - especially if the recipient is using old CS software, non-Adobe software or is using some kind of hardware RIP. We now just go with what we know works.
But I do find saving eps versions of everything to be a bit painful. In fact, I've always found Illustrator in general to be a bit painful when compared with Photoshop or AfterEffects. Illustrator seems like it's been developed by a different company some times!
Cheers, and thanks for the help.

  • CS4 opens unchanged file with changes made to different saved file

Ok, I searched for this but couldn't find anything. Probably because I have no idea what is happening. 1) I opened a raw file from a CD in photoshop cs4, lets call it photo1.nef. 2) I saved the file with a different name on my HARD DRIVE after making changes, photo1b.tif. I did not in any shape or form save the file on the CD (can't anyways). 3) Now, whenever I open the original file, photo1.nef on the CD it opens with all the changes I made previously to the file saved as photo1b.tif (remember this is the original unchanged file not the file I changed). But, when looking at thumbnails it appears to be the unchanged version of the file. I have closed photoshop and deleted all my temp files and still it opens the file with the changes, even though other programs open the file in it's original state without any of my changes. How do I stop this? I think I may be going nuts over this! Help! My wife is laughing at me when I show her.

Sounds like you may be using a centralized cache for your Camera Raw adjustments (as opposed to sidecar XMP files).  Check your preferences inside Camera Raw or do an Edit>Camera Raw Preferences from Bridge.
You should be able to clear the edits by right-clicking the image in Bridge and selecting Develop Settings>Clear Settings.
Only Adobe programs are going to use those edits by the way.  That's why opening the file in other programs doesn't show them.

  • Mac Illustrator CS4 creating duplicate files when saving

Hi! All of a sudden, when I save illustrator eps files... I'm getting two files.... file.eps and file-01.eps. They are identical. How can I turn this feature off? I'm not sure how I turned it on! Thanks!

At the lower left of the Save Dialog try turning off Use Artboards.

  • Photoshop CS4, Saved a Tiff file now won't open correctly

I saved a file as a .tif and it saved as normal then I shut down Photoshop and then the PC. The next day when I try to open the file it doesn't open correctly it opens but the right hand side of the photo is on the left and the left hand side of the image is now on the right, its like its been cut in half and put pack the wrong way.
It also didn't open with the layers only as a locked background. When I view the file in the icon it looks fine until I open it.
    Help!

Laura, I'd guess this is not promising for you.  TIFF files tend to be large, so I am wondering if you might have closed Photosho and the PC before it had finished saving?  Do you remember the pixel size of the original image, and what is the file size in Mb?  I am not sure how Photoshop treats TIFF images, depite them owning the file format after buying it from Aldus a few years ago, but it sounds like it was saved as a series of tiles, and the information about the order of those tiles is corrupted.  You might be able to Google TIF file recovery program, but it is unlikely you'll get the full file back with all the information saved with it.
If you don't get a better answer, keep a weather out for when Chris Cox is posting, and bump this thread.
    Good luck

  • Saving EPS Files in CS4 without the artboard

I am having an issue placing eps files using CS4.
If you save an EPS file in Illustrator CS4, the resulting file retains the entire artboard... So when you place the file in Photoshop, the graphic is too small.  If I open this eps and simply resave it as a Illustrator CS3 EPS, it places correctly... Meaning the artboard in not included so the graphic is as large as the photoshop canvas.
There has to be a reason for this change and some way to force CS4 to save the eps files like it does for CS3, but I can't find where... Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

I save as dialog uncheck use art boards option and you get this in photoshop

  • Saving PDF files from illustrator

    Hi
Can anybody help we are having an issue with illustrator cs3 and cs4 when saving pdf files
as you can see this is the file in illustrator and the images butt togeather with a black line down the middle when we then save the pdf and we have tried different options it moves the image, the images are placed eps images. This is not file specific as we have tried other files/images.
    Can anybody help

Yes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.
This is what it looks like when using the inked files when they are rgb

  • CS4-Design Premium-Files don't really work

    Hi,
I work on two Macs with 10.6 MacOS and CS4-DesignPremium. The Problem is, that I can't overwrite the files (Photoshop, indesign, illustrator etc) from the MacBook to the iMac, it said that I don't have the correctly rights, also if I work on the file on iMac, I can't save it as another name. There is the warning, that the file is damaged (Mistake-Code 1). But on the MacBook is no Problem with saving the file.
    Can you help me?

I think I just threw it in the trash. It was a while ago, so I'm not 100% sure. When I searched "photoshop" on my hard drive, I found the photoshop uninstaller... and my best guess is that if I run that to get rid of it, and then re-run the new software I should be fine.. but I don't want to do anything until I'm sure it will work.

  • FW CS4 saving issue

I'm having some problems saving my files in FW CS4.
Sometimes it takes more than two minutes to save the files, is this happening to anyone else?
Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

It happens in larges and small files.
I know that files that have a lot of states/layers will take longer to save, but even small files take much longer to save in comparision with FW CS3.
