[CS4 Server] Converting CS2-Document to CS4

Hello everyone!
I have some cs2-documents, which I want to work with. I open them in InDesign Server CS4 and save them again.
After this they seem to be CS4 - Documents, but if try to work with paragraph styles i get an exception.
If I try to open these "converted" documents with InDesign (desktop, not server) the program still converts them although the explorer displays them as CS4-Documents.
Does someone know, how I can convert CS2-documents the right way?
Thanks and Regards,
Sergej

Hi Stefan/Srini,
I created the mdsys user when I started and also just verified that. According to https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18283_01/appdev.112/e11830/sdo_locator.htm, Locator is installed along with Oracle multimedia and both get automatically installed in the XE edition. But based on the following post, we cannot verify if the Locator is enabled/installed using an v$option command. I tried the select query and it gave a FALSE for SPATIAL.
To make sure that Oracle multimedia was installed, I tried the following command but it did not select any row.
SQL> select comp_id, version, status
  2 from dba_registry
  3 where comp_id = 'ORDIM';
To manually install Oracle multimedia, I followed http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/appdev.111/b28415/ap_instl_upgrd.htm but it could not find the ordinst.sql from section B.1.3. Nor did it locate an Oracle JVM from section B.1.2. Not sure if I missed something while I installed Oracle XE. Let me know if anything pops out
Regards,
Asif

  • Opening CS2 document in CS3 Server not working,

    Hi
I'm trying to open an InDesign CS2 document in CS3 Server, but when I do that, the Application.open() doesn't return.
InDesignServer.exe starts working for a while, creates a lock file, but then it starts to idle and the call won't return.
After this, I cant do anything against the server anymore, until i restart it.
Is this a known issue? is there a solution for this?
    I'm using the Java/CORBA interface.
    Thanks

I got it working after uninstalling and installing again, and updating, but now i have another problem.

  • Can't open a CS2 document in CS3

    1. I tried searching through the forum for an answer, and couldn't find one.  If there is a thread and I missed it, I apologize, and ask that you point me in the right direction.
    Work:
Mac OS 10.4.x  with stand alone ID CS2.
emailed the .indd document home to finish editing.
    Home
Mac OS 10.5.6  with Design Premium CS3 suite.
I can't open a 14 page document created at work (on CS2) at home (on CS3.
I get an error message saying that "Can not open the file X.indd" Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
    WTF?
This is the first time I've tried opening a work document at home (up to now, have successfully kept work at work).
Is there some sort of special plugin?  I kind of figured that CS and CS2 documents would just open in CS3.
Any help, would be greatly appreciated.

You figured right. CS3 should be able to open your CS2 document, as long as you're not using a plug-in with CS2 that prevents it.
First, you seem pretty clear about versions, but the vast majority of questions like yours come about because of version confusion. Indesign's version history:
    Indesign 1.0
    Indesign 1.5
    Indesign 2.0
    Indesign CS (3.0)
    Indesign CS2 (4.0)
    Indesign CS3 (5.0)
    Indesign CS4 (6.0)
Find out your version number point release by holding down CMD and choosing Help > About Indesign.
Second, email attachments frequently get corrupted. Compressing the attachment using Zip or Stuffit is a good way to ensure that you know the attachment wasn't corrupted. If a zip file gets corrupted, you won't be able to open it.
If you're using a plug-in at work that prevents you from opening the file at home, you can try exporting to INX and opening that instead.
What was your plan once you opened your file at home? Roundtripping is not impossible, but it doesn't work very well.

  • InDesign cs3 crashes when opening CS2 documents

ID cs3 crashes when opening CS2 documents, not when open dialog appears, but after I choose file and it "starts" opening it. (core duo, xp, clean install, all updates)
If i open ID by opening file, it crashes with standard windows dialog, if I open ID first, it does not crash, but rather behaves strangely, nothing is opening, if I move a mouse it turns to sand clock.
Same thing happens on all machines with ID cs3 in my office.
All other apps works fine. I did read every single forum about ID crashing and nothing helps. Files resaved in interchange format opens well. There must be something in the files that ID cs2 did and what id cs3 cannot open :( Any ideas?

    1. Is there any reason to use eps? Avoid it use AI, PSD or PDF instead.
    2. Are all used fonts ok? What kind of fonts du you use?
    3. Which Mac OS X do you use?
Does it crash with alwayst the same files?
What does the file history tell you? Hold down the command key and got to InDesign > About InDesign… Does it tell you somewhat more specific, like missing plugins, severly damaged files and restored files, when (in which version) the files have been created first (helps often to export to IDML and open this again and save it as INDD and work with the new file.), has the problematic file been converted from another application (Quark Xpress or PageMaker), etc.

  • Acrobat - Convert Office documents to PDF so that it is crawled/indexed by SharePoint search

    Hi there,
This is a hybrid question between Acrobat and SharePoint and I'll post on both forums....
    Background:
In a fairly complex application we have a publishing server that utilizes Acrobat to convert Office documents to PDF using the Convert to PDF functionality.
We then publish that PDF to a library in SharePoint.  We would like to have those published PDFs searchable by SharePoint search.  Unfortunately there is something about these PDFs where SharePoint cannot crawl the content.
Note:  I do realize that PDFs are not indexable by SharePoint out of the box and I have installed and configured the iFilter utility.  I have been able to index and search for other PDFs, so I know the mechanism works.  It just seems to be these
    particular PDFs.
I have also manually "Saved as PDF" directly from Word/Excel and those PDFs are crawled by SharePoint....it just seems to be when Acrobat does its conversion.  I'm sure it's just a simple configuration somewhere... I just don't know what I'm
    looking for.
Another note:  When I open the published PDFs, I am able to use Acrobat's search to find the text.... and the text is selectable; so it's not as if the conversion changed it to an image.
So....would anyone happen to have encountered this issue?  Or does anyone know what makes a PDF indexable by SharePoint search?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi  ,
According to your description, my understanding is that the PDFs which are converted from Office documents by Acrobat cannot be crawled in your SharePoint 2010.
For your issue, please make sure these PDFs version is 1.5(Acrobat 6.x) or above.
You can take steps as below for verifying:
Open your PDF using Adobe Reader.
    Go to File -> Properties.
Check the PDF Version under Advanced section.

  • How to convert word documents to html page in sharepoint online 2013

    Hi,
I am new SharePoint and still learning it.
I have been tasked to do the following on office 365 E3 SharePoint 2013 Online edition.
    1) I have to create a Web page in asp.net
    2) This page needs to show document from a given SharePoint folder and bind them in a grid or dropdown on the asp .net web page
    3) On selecting the document from the drop down or gird (on asp .net webpage), I need to show the SharePoint word document as HTML on the webpage (something like word to html) Note: These SharePoint word document may contain Images, bullets, tables etc.
What I have been able to do till now
    1) I have been able to connect to SharePoint from ASP .net application.
    2) I have been able to retrieve document from a specific SharePoint folder.
    3) Read the document from SharePoint folder and bind them to a drop down on the asp .net page.
    What is missing?
I am not aware about any API that SharePoint Online provides to convert Word document to HTML. Any code sample or reference on how to will be much appreciated.
I am not also not sure what is the best way of achieving the functionality this?
    Thanks
    Krishna

If this was SharePoint server then it would be easy however in O365 You need to create a app which will use the word automation service and below is  powershell which you can use for the conversion:-
    # This script will convert Docx to PDF using word automation and similarly it can be used to convert to HTML
    $wordFile="http://contoso/kick.docx"
    $pdfFile="http://contoso/kick.pdf"
    $wasp = Get-SPServiceApplicationProxy | where { $_.TypeName -eq "Word Automation Services Proxy" }
    $site = Get-SPSite "http://contoso"
    $ConvertJob = New-Object Microsoft.Office.Word.Server.Conversions.SyncConverter($wasp)
    $ConvertJob.UserToken = $site.UserToken
    $ConvertJob.Settings.UpdateFields = $false
    $ConvertJob.Settings.OutputFormat = "PDF"
    $ConvertJob.Convert($wordFile, $pdfFile)

  • How to avoid converting pdf documents to searchable text repeatedly

Can someone help me to resolve this Acrobat 8 or 9 problem.
I select a folder and initiate the conversion of all pdf documents to searchabel text (or OCR).
It works great. Next time, if I re-do the  process, some documents re-convert again. Is there a way to tell Acrobat to stop converting pdf documents that already been OCR or converted to searchabel text ??

    Hi,
Simplest -> OCR the PDF(s) prior to deployment to the production zone.
"Good" OCR can come from Acrobat or other applications (done ok with AdLib Server & Adobe's Capture Cluster - I'm sure there are others).
Typically, an OCR engine only knows how to do one thing - OCR what it is pointed to.
Perhaps a dedicated server application would provide more refined control - but that's not Acrobat's OCR engine.
    Maybe possible -
Acrobat 8 & 9 Pro each has a Preflight Custom check that can identify if text rendering mode 3 (invisible text) - Acrobat's OCR output- is present.
    Create an appropriate Preflight Profile.
Create a Batch Sequence to run the Preflight Profile.
Configure the Preflight: Batch Sequence Setup to create a report (for "On success" or "On error" or both).
Designate where the report PDF is to go.
Extract/filter the report's content to obtain a data set of what files have no text rendering mode 3 present.
Feed this data to a routine that directs/controls OCR.
"Routine" maybe possible via something with Acrobat JavaScript. Don't know.
    Maybe via an Acrobat plug-in.
Maybe to control some other OCR application(?).
(Something for a real 'gritty' codehead <g>).
Myself, I try assiduously to avoid post processing my "deployed" PDFs; particular when OCR is involved.
At the work place, for on-going, PDF "streams" to be OCRd  I and co-workers use AdLib Server.
So, the PDFs are OCRd prior to deployment.
    Be well...

  • I need to know how to easily convert a document to a pdf using ocr.  I need a "readable document".  Please help.

How do I convert a document to a pdf document using ocr.

I typically create a TEST folder on the remote site.  Upload new pages and dependant files there for debugging and testing purposes.  Then using a 3rd party ftp ware (filezilla, cute ftp or Ws_ftp pro), I move the new site files & folders over to the root directory.  If you have used the same filenames as were on the old site, new pages will overwrite the old ones.  If you used a different naming convention, you will need to delete old files from server.

Is available this functionality on c# code? Which assemblies i can use for it?

I didn't quite understand your statement. Could you, please, explain, why I can't use it only on the desktop and not a server? And, could you provide documentation, where I can find information about converting documents using c#?

When I sign in to the Adobe Reader XI (which is the only option that I have to open a pdf document, I will sign in to the Adobe ID sign-in page. After I do this, the "Convert To" box goes "gray" and I am unable to convert the document I have selected.  It was working great for the first week that I used it, but now it doesn't give me the converting option.  I am very frustrated as I have done nothing to change anything, and I was thinking this was so great...now I am just pulling out my hair and do not have the option of calling anyone since no phone numbers are listed. I am VERY busy and do not have time to sit and wait over a half an hour to "chat", which I tried to do yesterday.  All I want to do is very simply, convert pdfs to Word.  I have paid for this and am not getting any help. I am not very savvy when it comes to Adobe this program and Adobe that program...I feel I am being scammed as I do not get simple answers for something that appeared was going to be simple. You can't even call customer service to talk to someone live to help walk you through.

    Hello Kathie,
Sorry for the inconvenience that has caused to you.
Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Old school with CS2.  Haven't used in a while and am unable to use the program as it says my serial number is invalid. Customer service tells me the server for CS2 has been shut down.  Then they sent me here for help.  Does anyone have any advice?

I don't have a clue what I am doing with this.  Here is my discussion with Customer Service:
Naresh: Hello! Welcome to Adobe Customer Service.
    Naresh: Hi Mary.
Naresh: I understand you have been getting invalid serial number, am I right?
    Mary Vance: Hi
    Mary Vance: yes
Naresh: Please provide me with the serial number, Mary.
Mary Vance: I provided my serial number here
Naresh: Thank you for the serial number.
Naresh: Please allow me 2-3 minutes while I check your serial number.
    Mary Vance: no problem
    Naresh: Thank you.
Naresh: Thank you for being online.
Naresh: I would like to inform you that the server for CS2 products have been shut down by adobe since then you are not able to install the product.
Naresh: However, I will provide you the link to download CS2 application. Please visit the following link.
Mary Vance: will this allow me to reinstall Photoshop?
    Naresh: Yes, Mary.
Mary Vance: ok...what is that link?
Naresh: Please clcik here to download.
Mary Vance: thank you....trying it now
    Naresh: You are welcome.
Naresh: I will also provide you the link for further information regarding the installation of CS2 products.
Mary Vance: the download doesn't have anything regarding installation
Naresh: Please click for the information.
Naresh: I am sorry for providing wrong link.
Naresh: Please click here to download.
Naresh: The 3rd link is for the download of CS2 Photoshop.
Naresh: Were you able to view the download link, Mary?
Mary Vance: what file in that download is supposed to help me?
Mary Vance: the first and 3rd link were the same
Mary Vance: when trying to load from my software, I get the message saying my serial number is not valid. All I need is a serial number that works. Is that going to be possible?
Naresh: Mary, Adobe has disabled the activation server for CS2 applications, including Acrobat 7 and Audition 3, because of a technical issue.
Naresh: So you will have to download the software from the above link.
Naresh: May I know in what OS you are trying to install the software?
Mary Vance: the link sends me to a CS2 help package
    Mary Vance: windows 7
Naresh: I am sorry you will not be able to install the CS2 application on Windows 7 since it does not support CS2 version.
Mary Vance: I have had on here for a few years...why all of a sudden would it not work? Illustrator is fine.
    Naresh: Okay.
Naresh: You can try downloading the software.
Mary Vance: was the original link that you sent me suppose to allow me to download Photoshop?
Mary Vance: I did try and got the message that the serial number is invalid. Is there any way to get around this or should I throw it away?
Naresh: May I know whether you uninstalled the product.
    Naresh: ?
Mary Vance: I did uninstall Photoshop only. Then I tried reinstalling Photoshop only and got the message about the serial number.
Naresh: I check and see that it seems to be a technical issue, I request you to please post your query to the forums so that you will get the resolution from our expertise and I'll provide you the link to visit the forums.
Naresh: Please click here to visit the forums.
Mary Vance: I guess I will try that.
    Naresh: Yes, please.
Naresh: Is there anything else I can help you with?
Mary Vance: I don't see where you helped me with this yet, so I guess not!
Naresh: I am sorry for the inconvenience.
Naresh: Thank you for contacting Adobe.  We are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Goodbye!
    Any help would be appreciated.

CS2 is very old and reached its "end of life" a while back.  So probably won't run on modern operating systems.  If you can still run it, you'll need to uninstall what you have and re-install with the download link below to activate it.

  • Acrobat 11 Standard Office 2010 Pro Convert Word documents to PDF not working

    Adobe community,
I can create PDF's inside Word 2010 using the Acrobat Add-in but right clicking a Word document or dragging a Word document into Adobe Acrobat 11 Standard does not work. I have updated both Acrobat 11 and Office 2010 with the latest updates available. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi markl16215442,
In order to convert word document to PDF by right-clicking or dragging the file, you must have Adobe PDF printer installed.
For Windows, please check that Adobe PDF is set as default printer under "Start > Devices and Printers"
While for MAC, Adobe PDF printer option is no more available and as it was removed with some changes in Apple's policy regarding virtual printers.
So, check with your OS and then let me know.

  • Why is the footer blurry when I convert my document to a PDF?

When I am viewing my document in Pages (using the Club newsletter template) my logo in the footer looks fine.
However, when I convert the document to a PDF and then view it as a PDF, the footer looks blurry, as though there are two of them.
I've tried deleting and repasting and using a different format for the logo (e.g., jpg, png), and nothing seems to work.  Could it be a sizing issue?  (obviously I have to shrink my logo quite a bit to get it to fit into the footer....)
    Help appreciated!
    Thanks!

In your version of Pages, I went into layout mode, selected the footer, and enlarged it enough to cram a 180 dpi 1024x768 image into a thumb-sized image. In the Wrap Inspector, I selected make background objects selectable, and enabled in background. I turned off Object causes wrap.
I then chose Format > Advanced > Move Object to Section Master, and exported to PDF Best. At 400% enlargement in Preview, the image and footer looked normally sharp.
Here is a screen grab of that PDF footer image at 400%.
