Cs4 small jpeg file shows as large image size

Hi I am using Photoshop CS4 and I am trying to downsize images shot from my camera to less than 1 mb, by shifting the quality of the jpeg slider to the left in the save as menu.
Once I've done that when I open the newly reduced jpeg file again, and I go to the image Size, it shows as 25 Mb,
This started happening after I reinstalled the Cs4 Creative Suite to my computer.
What can I do, as when I tried to upload the images, ebay said they were too large, ie the file size of the image didnt get reduced at all.
Is it possible to fix this as I have reinstalled the software twice, and I still get the same problem,
thanks

I think the problem is not at all Photoshop’s.
When you degrade an image by reducing the jpg quality the number of pixels does not change so the uncompressed image (as indicated for the opened file in Photoshop’s Image Size dialog) naturally has the old size.
What are ebay’s image requirements? Do they mention some maximum width/height in pixels?

  • In PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but PSD, DNG and CR2 files don't. Also, no thumbnail below the file list.

Working in PSE 13, when I open a folder, jpeg files have a preview image, but psd files just have white sheet of paper as preview.  I have to open the file to be able to see it.  Also, there is no thumbnail of the file below the file list.Surely, there's a setting that needs to be changed. I did not have this problem with Elements 12. This is a real bother because I have to use Lightroom to see all the file types. It seems as if Elements is using the standard Windows file loader that can't show previews of file types it doesn't know including .PSD, DNG and CR2. Is that a bug or did I do something wrong? Thanks for any help.

I am using Windows 7 64 bits. Working in the editor, I never use the organizer. The screen above is not the same at all that I got in Elements 12, it was completely different and showed me a thumbnail below the listing when I single clicked on one of the files. In Elements 12, I also could see  a thumbnail of all the file types, not only the jpegs. It is as if the loader is the regular Windows used anywhere, not the right one for Elements. I hope someone understands my problem.. Thanks.

  • Web Flash Gallery: Problem setting Large Images size

When using the Lightroom Flash Gallery I am not able to change the size of the Large Images (Web | Appearance | Large Images | Size). When I set the size to Medium or Small, the large images always ends up with the same size as when set to Large. Only when setting the size to Extra Large there is a slight change in size.
How can I change the Large Images size to Medium and Small?

  • Larger image size and disk performance

    hey all,
Granted the majority of users here won't experience issues with larger image sizes, but i'm hoping a few may be able to shed some experience.
I work with a H3D, Mamiya RB (with various Leaf backs) and also drum scanned film. The issue is that often a single image size can be anything from 150mb upto 500mb, this is excluding any post production changes.
My current aperture library is on a FW800 disk, but disk i/o is crippling the box and program at the moment. I'm looking at the express slot and wondering who here is running a disk off that and what they feel it's like from a performance perspective.
An example is a recent location shoot which has a handful of images above 500mb each. Aperture takes around 10-15 mins to startup when this folder is selected (constantly processing the image every time it starts) and this leads to a totally unresponsive OS.
How are you handling large files with Aperture?
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)

On the Quad I process 250Mb+ TIF scans, not often, but often enough. External drives 7200rpm in a Sonnet 500P encl. attached to eSATA muliport card (Sonnet E2P). Performance is equal to internal so far as I can judge.
I recall the PCMCIA then PC Card bus speed was horrendously slow. Not sure what the Expresscard bus speed is, but it would be a crying shame to attach 300Gb/s burst capable drives (or RAID 5 driving 200Mb+ continuous) to a backend bus capable of a few Mb.
As Alan notes, a MBP may be OK for field work and tethered shooting, but for the image sizes you have, the preferred solution would be a Mac Pro.

  • Resume jpeg is saving way to small. How to save larger image that's readable.

created my resume in cs6 and the jpeg is so small, no employers can even read the text without zooming in a bunch. How do i save a readable/larger image of my resume?! HELP!!! Thank you!

For a resume, when you create one (BTW photoshop is not the proper app for it) The document should be the same size as the paper size that it will be printed on and at 200 to 300 ppi.
Then you don't save as jpg not for a resume, it needs to be clean and professional. Save as tiff, png or better yet as a pdf. Pdf supports layers, transparency, vector shape, paths and editable text.
Your resume should be created in a program meant for text documents. Illustrator, InDesign and even MS word. All three can export a pdf file. If photoshop is all you have, then that's all you can do. Just making you aware that's all.

  • How to read local large JPEG files and display into Images Tile

    Hi all,
I can read the local multiple files by FLEX/AIR FileListEvent
and loader to read the large JPEG files but cannot display them
into a TileList. Since it is a number of images files, how can I
put them into a thumbnail TileList.
    Please kindly advise.

    1. So I would like to know which is the {color:#3366ff}best way to load local images in ImageView{color}.I'm no expert, but is there a reason that you are using Swing to do the loading?
    2. secondly, currently the system displays all images only after the completion of creating all images. {color:#3366ff}How to display images as and when they are created.{color} So that the user has a feeling that the images are loading.JavaFX Image class let you display a lightweight placeholder, and you can bind the progress to some kind of visual indicator. I don't think you can display an image that is partially loaded.

  • When creating a slideshow, for which I use JPG files created in powerpoint, I try to export this to a disk and the result is that the file that I am exporting is extremely large (1.2GB).  I am only using 9 (97kb) small jpeg files. How do I rectify this

    Hi Folks,
I have created 9 jpeg files out of MS Powerpoint which I exported into a slideshow.
When exporting this slideshow, it wants to ceate a file of 1,2GB whilst the jpeg files are all around 97kb in size.
What could the problem be and how do I sort this out?
    Kindest regards

When exporting the slidehow out of iPhoto what size are you selecting for import, what size ration is selected in the slideshow's Settings pane, how many slides, what pixel dimensions are they have and what theme are you using?

  • Cover Flow displays generic icon only for small JPEG files

I recently used the excellent CocoThumbX to strip off all the Adobe preview icons from my Photoshop-created images (a mixture of JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files). That neatly solved the low-res "fuzzy" Cover Flow thumbnail problem lots of users have complained about.
However, now I have a problem that I haven't seen addressed elsewhere. Lots of my JPEG files still appear as generic JPEG icons in Cover Flow. They are all Adobe Photoshop JPEG files, and they are all no larger than 150KB in size. There's nothing wrong with the files as Quick Look displays them without a hitch, and I can open them in Photoshop no problem.
Any idea how to get Cover Flow to render their thumbnails properly?
Resaving them from Photoshop fixes the problem, but I have thousands of such images and don't want to resave all of them even with a batch action if there's some other simple way of fixing this.

I have the same problem except with ALL jpegs, not just small ones. Other file types (pdfs, eg) preview just fine in cover flow, and I am able to open all the jpgs by themselves in any program, they just don't render in cover flow.
I think this happened in conjunction with the upgrade to 10.5.1.
Any help would be most appreciated!

  • How can I use a JPEG file as a background image for my vi in 8.5

Im working on a vi that I plan on using as part of an alarm system.  I would like to use a JPEG file of my house as a background image for the vi, or possibly to just be displayed in a window on the control panel.  I have seen people use their own images before, but never looked at what this involved.
Im trying to use the "read JPEG file" vi and the "draw flattened pixmap" vi to accomplish this.  The vi does run, but nothing shows on the front panel.  If I try to create an indicator from the "new picture" output of the "draw flattened pixmap" vi, I get an empty white window on the front panel.
    Any advice?
    Thanks

the earlier vi (using the JPEG) works fine. just increase the size of the picture control
I figured this was the problem. And to the OP, I'm glad a bitmap worked, but no I didn't mean use any sort of LabVIEW programming at all. I meant open your image in Microsoft Paint, Press ctrl+A to select the whole thing. Then copy the image to the clipboard. Now select your front panel and press ctrl + v to paste it. No programming needed and the image is there. However, if you want to programmatically change it, you will need a picture control.

  • In iPhoto, my thumbnails show but larger images do not, why?

I am having trouble with some of my larger images not showing up in iPhoto. I click on "Faces" and go into pictures of my mom that I have tagged. I see all the thumbnail images of her, but when I click to view the images larger, it doesn't show the picture. It shouws a triangle with a !
    I am running iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.1)
    Please help me.
    Thanks.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Why do G3 raw files show as "Unsupported Image Format" in Aperture?

I am moving towards shooting in raw, and as an experiment I imported some sample raw files from the publicly available text images on the Photography Blog. When I try to look at these images, I get a black screen with a warning triangle and the message "Unsupported Image Format". This happens for all the different raws, including some G3 raw files (.rw2). Oddly, it can read the EXIF metadata and has all the information about shooting settings etc. If I import the same files into iPhoto, it displays the images properly and allows editing, etc.
I have a workaround, which I've also tried with my Fuji X10 raws (still not supported on MacOSX), of running them through the Adobe DNG converter, and then looking at the dng files which seem to work fine. But it's a pain.
This has to be one of those simple "D'oh" things, but I can't see what I'm doing wrong!

Thanks Leonie, the second part revealed that I have been an idiot, although the behaviour is still surprising. The folder has a mix of DMC-G3 raws, Fuji X10 raws, and DNG files produced from both. For the Fuji X10 files, the DNGs produce images and the raws produce the "Unsupported file format" message. The latter is not surprising, the former a little surprising (as I've heard that DNGs only work when the associated raw works). The last two remarks don't directly address my problem (or perceived problem), but they perhaps set the frame for my expectations.
For the G3 files, when I look at it more closely, the G3 raws DO display correctly, while the G3 DNGs give "Unsupported file format". I had managed to fool myself into thinking it was the other way round (Aperture does rather hide the full file name).
So I was completely wrong, Aperture does support DMC-G3 raw, it's just it's DNG support that's a bit weird. However, it's on my side if I need to use X10 raws (via the DNG step). In fact so far I've given up the latter, as the noise levels are so much greater than in Fuji's in-camera JPEG conversion.
So, thanks very much for your help. Now I remember the first rule of system support: never trust what the customer tells you! (I know you're not really customer support, but I guess the same rule applies.) Thanks again

  • Can I save a JPEG file same as the original size?

I am new to Element and am a beginner. The reason I wanted to use Photoshop Element was to edit high resolution photos for photo books. All of my photos are JPEG taken by a SLR camera. Then, I learned that when I try to save changes as JPEG, the file size gets smaller and I cannot preserve the same quality. If I save them as PSD file, I may preserve the quality/file size, but the photobook creation option in Element 9 is very limited (as opposed to going to Shutterfly website directly). Shutterfly accepts JPEG files only. How can I preserve the quality of JPEG files? Even if I try to save as MAXIM quality, Element 9 reduces the file size by 30% or so. I wonder, Photoshop Element wasn't the right tool if the purpose was "printing" photos? Please advice.

Image size and resolution (pixels per inch -- ppi) are interrelated by division.  For example, keeping the original number of pixels the same, if you increase the size the resolution (ppi) will decrease.  Don't look at the file size to determine what is a "better" quality.
The thing you're concerned with is to not lose quality by saving a JPG image after each time you edit it.  Just work in a lossless format such as PNG or PSD, and only export the final result as a JPG if you have to provide a JPG to your printing service.

Cant use my IPad lightning connector for SD card with D800 even though I have tried RAW and increasingly smaller files with JPEG. Nothing works...HOw can that be that the files are recognized on a Mac but worthless for using an IPad??
