CS4 Standard Advice

Hi, I am looking to purchase the Adobe Illustrator CS4 Standard software which includes Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. I have a Hp Pavillion M8170 PC with Windows Vista Home Premium, nvidia GeForce 8500 GT Video Card, 2.40 GHz processor, 2GB RAM and, 210GB Free Hard Drive Space. Will these be enough to adequately run the program or will I be likely to experience problems? I also use my PC to operate other programs. Will my PC be affected by installing CS4 Standard? Are there any installation issues I need to be aware of and, if so, how do I avoid them?
Thanks
Gary

Your system seems to meet the minimum specs required for installation, and the applications should run fine by themselves (not necessarily blazingly fast with that configuration), and probably with even two at a time open. I presume when you say you have 210 GB free space it's all on the same drive as Windows? You can install programs on another drive, but a lot of the common files must be on C: so you need quite a bit of free space there.

  • Command "Load Files into Stack" part of CS4 Standard or CS4 Extended only?

    Hi,
this question is about Photoshop CS4, not previous versions.
    About this Photoshop command:
File > Scripts > Load files into stack
Is it part of CS4 Standard - or CS4 Extended only?
And this command from within Bridge CS4 (not earlier versions):
Tools > Photoshop > Load files into Photoshop Layers (or so)
Is it only in CS4 Extended or also in CS4 Standard?
On a side note: I do have CS4 Extended, but sometimes want to know what's actually doable in CS4 Standard (for teaching, screenshots, etc). Is it possible to run the Extended version in Standard mode? Could a "work space" be defined for that (once you know the differences) or better could a "work space" be downloaded for that? Could Extended be switched to show as Standard?
    Thanks for all clever hints!

Extended and Standard are the same app. the extended features are unlocked with an extended serial number. The scripts may show but you might not be able to use them.

  • How to add a scale marker in PS CS4 standard? how to update PS extended?

I just installed PS CS4 standard. I found that I needed to have its extended one to add a scale marker in the microscope images.
Please let me know how to add a scale marker with PS CS4 starndard. Or, please let me know how to upgrade it to PS CS4 Extended.
    Thanks,

Here's the instructions for Scale markers: Photoshop Help | Measurement (Photoshop Extended)
Now for the not so good news. You need Photoshop Extended, but the CS4 version is no longer sold.
You can either purchase CS6 Extended, Creative Suite 6 (which is over two years old and is no longer updated) or have latest Photoshop as part of the Creative Cloud Photography plan | Adobe Creative Cloud. Photoshop will always have the latest upgrades and versions and it is all "extended", no "standard" here. Run it on Mac or PC, and in many interface languages at no extra charge.
Hope you find something that will work for you.

  • Upgrade Pricing, CS4 Standard to CS4 Extended

Haven't been able to find anything elsewhere on this so I thought I'd see if anyone in the forum could steer me in the right direction.  A couple of months ago I upgraded from CS3 Extended to CS4.  Didn't think I'd need the Extended edition features so I saved a few bucks and went with CS4 Standard.  Now I think I'd like to go to the Extended edition after all, just to get familiar with the tools.  I've been hoping I could locate a way to do so for just the price difference between the two upgrades but I can't turn up anything in the store's upgrade pages ... the cheapest thing listed is the full $349 upgrade from CS3. Anyone know if it's possible to upgrade from Standard to Extended for just the price difference between the two upgrades and if so, how to go about it?
    Thanks

Never heard of it being done but, if it is possible, you would have to do it through adobe customer support.

  • Opening HDR files in CS4 Standard

I am trying to write a document that gives simple, standard instructions to users on what to do when opening HDR files in Photoshop CS4 Standard (Windows XP SP3). The files are generated by 3D Studio Max V-Ray in the EXR format. The problem is that gamma levels are frequently off for users, so the instructions are meant to simplify things for them. Through some testing, I discovered something I don't understand:
With RGB color management policy set to 'Preserve Embedded Profiles' (and it doesn't matter what the actual RGB profile is and/or whether or not any of the 'Ask When...' boxes are selected), the EXR opens as expected and no gamma correction is needed
With RGB color management policy set to 'Convert to Working RGB' (and it doesn't matter what the actual RGB profile is), selecting the 'Ask When...' boxes causes the EXR to open as expected also...but if one does NOT select the 'Ask When...' boxes and allows Photoshop to automatically convert, the image is very dark and requires a gamma correction layer.
I ran all possible scenarios of 'Preserve Embedded Profiles' and 'Convert to Working RGB' with 'Ask When...' boxes selected and deselected in Photoshop CS3 Extended and all images opened as expected with no need for gamma correction.
Can anybody shed light on this oddity? Is there a limitation in Photoshop Standard when it comes to HDR image processing? Or is this a change from either Standard or Extended version from CS3 to CS4?

Hmm, that is odd, and I don't recall hearing about problems like that from other users.
Photoshop always treats 32 bit/channel data as gamma 1.0, and always corrects for the display.
If you send me one of the files in question, I can take a look.
Photoshop CS45 Standard is only limited in 32 bit/channel in that it can't create layers or use many of the brush tools.
But Photoshop CS5 no longer has that limitation.

  • Upgrade from CS3 Student Version to CS4 Standard failed!

    Problem:
Got a new MacBook Pro 10.9.5 and had to install all my CS software new.
(NOW: I can't open any of my old CS5.5 files, because only CS3 is working at the moment)
    I'm having:
CS5.5 master collection upgrade (not working. it says: need an CS4 upgrate!)
CS3 Design Standard Student Version (is working)
    I recently bought:
CS4 Standard upgrate (to get back to my own CS5.5 master collection upgrade)
But now CS4 Standard ask for my CS3 Design Student Version serial number and it is not working, but the serial number is correct!
I need to choose an Adobe CS3 product, but there is no CS3 Standard Student Version. If I choose CS3 Design Standard my serial number isn't working.
    Can anyone help me?

I didnt even know contribute went to 4.4 I thought 4.1 or 4.11 was the last version in the 4 series.

  • Install question CS2 Premium using CS4 Standard work?

Running iMac Power PC G5, 2GB SDRAM, and have checked all the system requirements to upgrade, good to go, now the question is...
I have Adobe CS2 PREMIUM installed and need to upgrade to CS4. Will the CS4 STANDARD full version work to upgrade? or am I forced to buy the Premium? I am a print designer and not into web creation. So I don't use the web apps anyway.
    Thanks you in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply! The link at Amazon gave this review... This should not be so confusing. anyway, I see the only way around it is to buy the full version. Any other options would be appreciated. Actually CS2 has never given me a problem. The reason I need to move ahead is I am running into compatibility issues with the agency I recieve artwork from. CS4 is the highest I can go with a powerpc. I really cannot aford a new mac right now.  One last HELP Please. Thank You!
This review is from: Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard Upgrade [Mac] (DVD-ROM)
I love CS4. What I hate is that you have to read the whole listing to see that THIS IS ONLY AN UPGRADE FROM CS3 TO CS4, not any other versions. So I spent hours preparing for this transition, hours upon hours, and when I called Adobe support they said "Oh, yeah, this is a really common problem. There's really no way to tell the CS3-CS4 from the CS2-CS4 upgrades, and they cost the same price. We could help you, but you didn't buy it from us..." Aargh! So I'm returning it, Amazon won't make any money, I have to explain to my office that they're stuck on CS2 for a while, and there's just no way my boss will believe this isn't something completely negligent on my part.

  • MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED

    Hello,
I'm interested to find out how to MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED. Its my intention to buy the upgrade not thru
download, but purchasing the dvd's needed eventually used if necessary.
    Thank you

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

  • GPU Acceleration Not Supported in PS CS4 Standard

I was led to believe that GPU acceleration features (like smooth zoom and rotate) were supported in the PS CS4 Standard edition. Under GPU Settings, Performance Preferences, it states "No GPU options available with Photoshop Standard". To me this is misleading advertising - I would have considered the Extended version if I had known.
Maybe this will help others not make the same disappointing assumption I have. I think Adobe should make this clear in the future. It really does make me feel slighted.

    Hi David,
Unfortunately the wording in the performance preference needs rework. There is already a bug logged, but it was found too late for changes to be made.
There is no Photoshop Standard, just Photoshop and Photoshop Extended. It also fails to clearly note the condition. I apologize for the confusion it has caused. Photoshop and Photoshop Extended both support GPU acceleration features for supported cards.
The intention was to communicate that under the current conditions Photoshop can not enable any GL drawing features.
You can find more information on GPU and Photoshop CS4 in this article:

  • PS CS3 to CS4 Standard Suite Upgrade

    Hello!
I have PS CS3 now. If I upgrade to CS4 Standard, is my only option to pay the $799 upgrade price, even if local retailers sell it for $499? I guess what I'm asking is if I pay the cheaper price, will the software then not install, forcing me to pay the difference anyway?
    Thanks in advance.

The upgrade to PS CS 3 to CS 4 Standard is he question Ramón.
So the answer is the upgrade price you see by retailers will not work for you unless you have the CS3 already which you do not have and therefore the answer is no you cannot use the the $499 upgrade. The only upgrade you can use is the $799 upgrade.
The retailers sell that upgrade as well.
BTW you can also get the 499 upgrade from Adobe if you had a previous version of the suites.

  • I moved CS4 Standard to new Win 8.1 laptop. It won't recognize serial number.

I deactivated and uninstalled CS4 Standard from an old laptop. I tried to install it on a new win 8.1 laptop using an install folder (the new laptop doesn't have a dvd drive), but it wouldn't recognize the serial number. It installed ok as a trial, but this isn't a permanent solution.
What can I do to activate it properly with my serial number?

Same exact thing happened to me (with Adobe trying to sell me CS6)...   I have Master Collection CS5, and installed it on a new PC running Win8.1.   All my Licenses were good and it installed, but now it won't upgrade.   I just got done chatting with Adobe and they said that CS5 will not update on windows 8, and I will have problems with it....
Also - Adobe does track how many times a License is being used.  They only allow 3 registrations of any license before it will no longer install.  You have to make sure you deactivate Adobe on any computer you're not using in order to free up a license.   If you computer crashes and you can't deactivate Adobe, you can call them and they will usually add a license (if you've used up all 3 of your licenses) to allow you to reinstall it.  (I know, as I have had both happen to me over the years).

  • Mise à jour sur PS CS4 standard

Puis-je encore acheter la mise à jour sur le CS4 standard que j'utilise, je n'ai pas pu le faire avant le 31 décembre. Merci.

The deadline was Dec. 31 so you are unfortunately out of luck for an upgrade price.

  • CS4 Standard

    PowerPC G5 Dual 2Ghz
    Tiger 10.4.11
I am considering upgrading CS2 Standard to CS4 Standard and would like to know if it runs on Tiger OS 10.4.11 or must I upgade to Leopard? Please advise me and what the min memory GB should I have?

10.4.11 will work fine. That's what I've done my testing on.
Given that you can get 2gb of RAM for $30, I would say 2gb is the minimum you should have and if you want to go to 4gb, it'll set you back a whopping $50.
(OK, but seriously, it will *run* on a machine with 1gb AFAIK.)
