CS4 student licensing question

I'm a graphic design student graduating next year. If I install it to my laptop this year, will it still continue working for me after I graduate?
Also, I think my laptop has something wrong with it, so I might get a new one. If I install the creative suite onto this laptop, will I be able to uninstall it and then reinstall into a new computer?
Thanks.

I wasn't aware of a difference in Academic versions and Student versions.
I just purchased what was billed as an Academic version but the box says Student Edition.
My wife is enrolled in college and thus the purchase. Is it just major upgrades (ie..CS5) that student editions are not eligible for or even incremental?
Doesn't seem right that incremental updates, which 9/10 are actually fixes for system errors, efficiency and such that theoretically should have been tested for before going to market would not be available but the free-market has change considerably in the last few years.

  • CS4 student licensing restrictions on commercial use?

I have a question concerning using a student licensed CS4 for commercial purposes after one is out of school. I've just spent several hours researching this topic and talking to a service representative via the chat only to increase my confusion. Some posts say yes, some say no, some say no only to non-US users, some seem to say yes to education editions but no to student licensing versions (if there is a difference?), and the rep I talked to said no.
So, to be safe, I'm asking here: can I use my Student Licensing CS4 Design Standard version to do commercial work with after I'm out of school? I bought it while in college legitimately, its the kind that you have to visit the student licensing web page on adobe.com in order to get the serial number for. However, I have seen multiple conflicting answers on the forums concerning this version. I do not know if "Student License" versions are the same as "Student Edition" versions, or "Education Edition" versions, or "Teacher Edition" versions, or if any of those last three are even actual versions.
To be clear, the word "edition" does not appear at all on my CS4 Student Licensing package. The package cover art has a white background with a vertical line in the middle of it that is made up of red gradients.
This question is from someone who both currently lives in, and bought the Student Licensing version of CS4 in, the United States. (2009)
    Thank you for your help!

There are no restrictions against you using your student-licensed version of CS4 (either any of the suites or individual programs) for commercial work other than that you may not sell or otherwise transfer your license to anyone else.

  • CS5 update date issue with CS4 Student Licensing version

Before downloading the Flash Pro CS5 update, from Adobe's web-site, I called Adobe and asked this question, " Will the Flash Pro CS5 upgrade work with my Student Licensing version?"  The answer I received (after being put on hold), was "Yes, the CS5 upgrade will work with my version of CS4."
However...after paying for and downloading the Flash Pro CS5, I am finding that it is not working. The serial number asked for, from my version of CS4, comes up as being not valid.
Any suggestions as to resolving this issue would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

  • CS5 Student License Question

    Licensing question:
In 2011, I purchased a student license to CS5 for my mac.  I have installed it on one laptop that I am the primary user of.  The laptop has two user logins, mine and my husbands.
Can my husband use CS5 on the computer on an occassional basis (either through my username or his) and still be okay from a licensing point of view?  There are several questions that hint at this, but I can't find a clear answer.  I've read the EULA, but I'm still confused whether this is permissable or not.
    Thanks for any help.

That's into the area of legal interpretation, but you don't need to overthink it. You may have purchased the license, but technically the activation is per computer, is it not? So one could simply assume that this is perfectly intended or at least within the freedom that the EULA provides... It's not like you're letting your neighbors use it for a buck an hour, or is it?

  • CS4 Student Edition Questions

Hi, I'm currently a student at Seattle Art Institute and need to get CS4. My question is, if I get CS4 Student Edition is it any different than the regular CS4? Does it not include some things that the other has? Also, when I graduate will I have to upgrade to a regular CS4 in order to do my own personal work or can I just use the Student Edition. And lastly, will I be able to use the Student Edition for internships? Thanks for any help,
    -Eric

I'm aware this post is rather old, but I was curious as to where you got this information? The "US" website does not say that, and I purchased the student version and talked to three different Adobe associates over the phone (including the supervisor) all of which said that here in the US you absolutely can use the Student edition of CS4 for commercial work.
EDIT: never mind I saw your link. You're right about it NOT being able to be used for commercial use in the UK.
I was worried for a second. Here in the USA you can use it for commercial work. Just called and verified the difference on the phone yet again...lol
    UK no USA yes

  • Quick "Photoshop CS4 Student Edition" Question

How many times am I able to download the CS4 Student Edition? If I can recall, I was able to download my old CS3 version twice, but I am having difficulty locating where to find this particular information. Thanks for the response. Much appreciated!

As far as I know, the Student Editions range is no different from any other Adobe downloadable product. In their Online Order FAQ, they write:
"How long will my download be available?
You may return to your Online Store account to resume a download, or re-download your products for 3 years after the day of purchase. If for some reason you are unable to access your account or are unable to find your previously purchased downloads, please contact customer service. Adobe reserves the right to change this policy at any time with or without notice."
    (Taken from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/167/tn_16719.html#Completed_download )
That seems to indicate that you're not limited to a number of downloads, but a time in which to download. If you click on the 'Your Account' link at the top of the Adobe site, and then on the 'View Order History' link, you should have a 'Your Downloads' tab that will make all your purchases available to download.
You may find that this varies slightly with volume licensing however. I'm assuming you mean a Student Editions individual purchase, but if you're buying through your university for example, you should check with them. If you're unsure of what kinds of student editions are available, check out this article explaining the different Adobe Photoshop Student editions, http://www.easyelements.com/adobe-photoshop-student.html .

  • CS4 Student edition question

I am hoping someone here can help me out. I am attending VFS at the moment and even though I get access to all their software and equipment I am looking to get my own version of the production premium package. I was looking through their student packages and saw they had two versions of the same package, the student licensing and the student edition.
What is the difference other then the price? Would I be able to use both for commerical use(Seeing I am in North America?)
JourneyEd also sells the CS4 package, it says the Lic. Type is CLP 4.5 Student Licensing. Again, not sure what this means.

I still haven't found the answer to this. Let me explain it a bit better.
I know the student edition can be used for commercial use in North America and on the adobe site it is $399. Now if I scroll down a bit there is the "student licensing" tab which has the Production Premium package at $299. Is this like what a school that buys for their students or can anyone buy this, and can it be used for commercial use?
Also VFS has a deal with JourneyEd which sells Adobe Products, and their Production Premium package is $379 and it says the Lic. Type is
    CLP 4.5 Student Licensing.
If I buy from JourneyEd will that CLP 4.5 lisense or whatever allow me to make profit off my work?

  • Multiple installs of cs4 student licensing

How many license installs come with the student license of cs4?  I have a few machines a new one and an old one and my wife’s how many install licenses comes with the student version?

Well you indicated that you had 3 computers with your wife's. deactivating one of your 2 to activate on you wife's computer will use up you 20 active/deactivations fast.
i have a laptop machien and a desk top machien and i use both all the time and often at the same time what should i do ?
As stated You have 2 activations that you can use. 1 for work 1 for laptop or home. You are not supposed to use CS4 on the desktop to do one thing and at the same time do another thing on your laptop.

  • UK Student License questions

    Hi all,
Two quick questions about the licensing for Student Versions.
    1) Does being a student at the Open University (open.ac.uk) qualify for a student license?
    2) Is the student license granted depending on the course being studied?  I.e. Would a student studying say, English Literature, be able to purchase a student license just as a student who was perhaps doing a Film Editing course?  Or does there need to be some relevance to the software being purchased?
I'd be looking at getting the Premier Production Suite, and I'm doing a course which starts with a module in Forensic Science.  Later on there are courses in digital gaming and digital photography which the production suite would really come in handy..
    Many Thanks in advance

I will become an iPhone owner this Friday when it launches here in the UK, but being that I have never had a contract phone before, can anyone tell me how the Edge feature works on the iPhone? I assume if you wander out of range of your home network it will give you the option to connect to Edge? Also, does it cost to use this feature on top of your monthly fee? If so, what are the fees per minute.
Edge use is free and now that O2 has decided to give unlimited Edge use to iPhone owners use it at will, you connection speed with Edge should be between 120k and 220k on average
    The iPhone searches for friendly
WiFi spots first then will connect to Edge as a second choice.
While using WiFi you will see a WiFi icon near the top left of your screen, when connected to Edge you will see a "E" as the edge icon

  • Creative Suite 4 student licensing question

I just purchased what I guess is the student edition of Creative Suite 4 from the college bookstore online.
    The front cover says:
Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Standard
    Student Licensing
    Academic ID required
    Serial number required for installation
    Here is my question:
I own two Macs.  Can I install this software on both of them, or only on one of them?

Yes, from what I understand you can very well put it on two computers as long as you are the operator of both machines.

  • Student Licensing Question

    Hey Guys,
Just a quick question about Labview student licensing. I have the 2010 student software pack and was wondering if its possible to install in on both a desktop and laptop at the same time with the same license.
    All the best,
    Tom
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

To activate the license, you have to send in the Computer ID and you get back an Activation code.  If you tried to use this activation code on another computer, there would be a mismatch with the computer ID and it would not work.  Talk to your NI sales rep and ask him if you can get two activation codes for the same license.  I know that with a volume license agreement, they will let you put Labview on 3 different computers, as long as you use only one at a time.  Of course you can only use one at a time, but it would be illegal for you to use one and your buddy to use the other at the same time.
Edit:  I'm slow.  Smerc beat me to the punch.  I guess the 3 computer rule applies to all licenses, not just volume license.  I still think you would have to get a separate activation code for each computer.

  • Transferring CS4 Student License to a New Computer?

I purchased a student license for CS4 Design Standard (Mac) in 2008. I recently got a new computer and want to transfer that license from my old computer to the new one (I have since graduated). Is it possible to do this, and if so, how?

You do not need/want to transfer.  Just install it like you did originally.  If you need a download link try the following one:
    CS4 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs4-product-downloads.html
You are allowed to have two activated installations, so if you would like to retain a backup installation you can keep it on the old machine.  If you would rather disable/remove it from the old machine then you should be sure to deactivate it first (open any program and choose Help -> Deactivate)

  • New hard drive: Trouble re-installing CS4 Student License.

So, the hard drive in my Macbook died.
I installed a new hard drive and tried unsuccessfully to restore from Time Machine backup several times before giving up and installing a fresh OS Mavericks.
I still have the original discs, however, the optical drive on this machine quit long ago. So far I've been successful dragging applications over from the backup on my external drive, but when I go to open my Adobe software I am getting error messages: InDesign says something about missing Roman.txt, Photoshop says I need to restart, etc.
I'm fairly certain this is linked to serial numbers and the limited student license, but not sure how to fix it.
    HALP!
    Thanks.

uninstall (if you can), or delete (if you can't uninstall) everything adobe that you 'dragged', clean (Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6) and properly install adobe programs with the adobe installers.

  • Student License question

So I wanted to know, If i make a a video, that has everything legal in it (Audio and so on) with my version of Adobe After Effects CS3 Student license, Can I sell it. NOT work for a company, not anything like that. Just say, oh I like this video of particles tahat I made, can I sell it. Not for a company but by myself, like a freelancer.
BTW, this may be interting to read. I got it off video copilot.net when I asked
First Dude Who I talked TO: Actually, I always purchase the student license because I teach an AE class at BYU and the license does allow me to make money on freelance work.
So, it cannot be purchased by you, then used at an office for another employer, but it can be used by you on your own computer to make money with your own business or as a freelancer.
That's the best thing about Adobe. They let students use it to make money.
Having said that, the student license may vary for different universities or schools, so you should read the fine print. I know that BYU has a special deal with Adobe and they are allowed to offer the entire Master Collection for $550. But that is only for BYU students and faculty. Also, I know that their license does allow money to be made, but again (i'm repeating myself) that may not apply to all student licenses.
Why do you think they allow you to do that? Because the second you make money using their software, you will likely be a lifetime customer. It is worth it to them to allow you use a student license that is cheaper (but still the full software) to make money, because then, in a way, you are trapped and will have to continue to use their software after you graduate. You'll pay full price for the rest of your life, and it is very worth it to them. That is the only reason I teach an AE class, because they don't pay me very well, but I get a sweet deal on software.
My Reply: Who wants to hear something Bizzare?
I called adobe and asked them.
The first lady transferred me to the legal place, or whatever, and he told me that "Oh, well yea we can upgrade you for free, and get you a commercial license. Just let me transfer you back, and tell the person what I said. They should give you a free serial number, and there you go!"
While being transferred my phone died, and I called back. Now i called the department in which I did the first time, and was NOT transferred. SHe told me that the man was incorrect and that I have to buy a whole new version of AAE.
Now you guys are telling me this?
Lemme say, that I am 16. I want to sell movies that I make! NOT WORK FOR PEOPLE. We have legal audio, and all. Just make movies, and sell not. Not for anyone else, but when me and my friends create things. (This being when they begin to look good)
    And I found this http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/openopt ... ed_faq.pdf

We bought a laptop for our son right before he began his senior year of high school. He used his Christmas money to buy the student version of Adobe After Effects CS3 from Academic Superstore for just over $400.
He was so incredibly busy during his senior year that he only managed to install the software, but never had time to use it.
Then, he found out that the college recommended a MAC computer (which rendered the Windows version of After Effects useless). We bought a Mac laptop & he bought a SECOND (Mac) version of After Effects to take to college last month.
He uninstalled the Windows After Effects and DeActivated it with Adobe. And we sold the Windows laptop.
Being a typical college student he really needs the money back from the first package. So, we thought we could sell it and get even a little bit of his money back. When I asked Adobe if he can sell the package, the answer was no.
They said it is licensed to him only and no one else can register it.
As for the fact that he has had to pay for TWO packages, but now can only use one, their attitude was basically "too bad, so sad".
On their website they talk about a program to buy back an outdated program when a student buys a newer version... but apparently that doesn't apply here.
The Windows software was over $400, and the Mac version was also over $400 through his college program.
This just doesn't seem right to me. Sure wish there was another option out there for this kind of software. As far as I am concerned, Adobe has ripped off my son. Nice way to show appreciation for your loyal customer, eh?!
    I'm not impressed.

  • No auto run on CS4 student licensing

I just purchased CS4 Design Standard to install on an HP laptop running Vista 64, sp1. I purchased it this summer, so it is fairly new. When I tried to install from the first disc in the case entitled, "Application 2," I get the following error message:
    E:\
    Application not found
There are no auto run or setup.exe for CS4 on the disc.
The other disc, "Content," does not have anything to install - just pdf files and such - no programs.
I have sent an email outlining the problem and looked through the forums, but didn't see this specific issue.
    Any ideas?

There were earlier reports of academic packages missing a DVD. The only
thing I can suggest is calling Adobe.
