CS4: Text tool is broken
When I use the Text tool or selected a text object, the
dropdown in the Properties panel where it says Static Text /
Dynamic Text / Input Text is not working. For instance, it's on
Static Text and I change it to Dynamic Text and it stays on Static
Text. Then I set it to Input Text and it changes to Dynamic Text,
but the instance name input doesn't appear. Trying to select the
text object on the stage crashes Flash. Every time.
I've had some contact with support and it appears to be a
problem with Flash choking on a font. None of my fonts are corrupt
(and I don't have any issues with any other apps), but if I remove
all my fonts but a few basic ones, the text tool works okay. I'm in
the process trying to isolate the problematic font(s) out of the
1000+ fonts that I have... yay...

Photoshop CS4 "Program Error" when using Text tool
Hello. I was having problems with Photoshop displaying a "Program Error" every so often, so I deleted the preference file and all seemed good. But after deleting the preference file for my Photoshop CS4 and re-launching Photoshop, the text tool causes Photoshop to display a Program Error when using the tool. It never did this before. Should I reinstall Photoshop? I am using a Powermac G5 running 10.5.8. I have already tried repairing the disk permissions.
ThanksThats kinda what I thought too, but the problem started happening randomly. It started when we were trying to use photomerge with large photos. The program just started giving the program errors. I still think it may be a font problem, but without going through my 2000+ fonts and disabling them one by one, how can I resolve this issue?

CS4 crashes when using the text tool
Everytime that I click on the text tool to use it, the program freezes up and Microsoft Windows pops up a message saying 'Adobe Photoshop has stopped working.' I've given in to just using Illustrator for my text, but am finding that I need in now in Photoshop.
Anyone have any answers?? I'm getting frustrated??

only happening to the 64bit version not the other version. IT uninstalled and reinstalled and still same issue...
just thought I would post too and perhaps a fix can be created by Adobe
Also... InDesign and Illustrator are just fine. The only crashing occurs with Photoshop. -
Text tool not working in photoshop cs4
I'm on a Macbook Pro running snow leopard, and for some reason, the text tool won't let me change the color of a text to anything outside of greyscale. For example, I select the text, click on the 'change color' box, select red, and press OK. But the box does not indicate red, but gray instead. If it means anything, my MBP also has the 9600 discrete GPU, and have tried switching it to use that as opposed to the 9400, but it didn't help.
Starting with the basic, I assume your document is in RGB or CMYK, and not Grayscale?

Text tool broken Fireworks CS5 Mac NL
The text tool on my fresh installed Fireworks CS5 Mac (dutch language interface) is not working at all...
When i select the text tool and draw a square were i want to have the text, typing on the keyboard activates all kinds of tools in the toolbox (probably the keyboard-shortkey-letter for that tool), in stead of producing text in that square!!
What am i doing wrong? It seems to be an error in the software, but the update-mechanism says there no updates available. Thanks in advance!That's not a known problem, and I cannot reproduce it on my Mac. You might want to call Adobe technical support.

Problem with Text tool in Photoshop CS5
I just purchased PCS5 this morning and they told me that I should download the trial version till I get the actual CDs... I have Photoshop CS4 and never had any serious problems. After downloading and installing CS5 it seems everything is working ok... however there are 2 problems...
1. It does not interact with Bridge 4 (when I make changes in Bridge, CS5 does not see it)
2. Any time I try to click on 'TEXT' tool icon, the application crushes... and I cant do anything... I have to restart the application.
Dont care much about 1st problem, but can't do without the 2nd one....
Any ideas?

Have you tried following solutions?
- update Photoshop to 12.0.4
- remove bad & duplicated fonts and clear system font caches
- update or uninstall 3rd party font management application
- remove all 3rd party plugins including font management application plugin
- launch Photoshop 32bit mode
- upgrade your Mac OS

Fireworks Crashes / Freezes When Using the Text Tool
Mac Octocore > OSX 10.6.1
Master Collection > Fireworks CS4
First I noticed the text box shift.Then Fireworks CS4 would freeze during any of the following:
• Resize grouped text
• Move text box
• Click on text box to edit with type tool
• Double-click on text box to edit with pointer tool
So I started a brand new file, but encountered the same outcome. Thus, Fireworks CS4 is currently useless if text is needed. I can create vector based objects, but just clicking on the canvas (or clicking the font menu) with the text tool freezes Fireworks CS4 instantly. I've had similar issues with Fireworks CS3 edition, but if I started a new file, I was at least able to use the text tool again and type. Now, I can't even recreate the file. I have to abandon Fireworks and use a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator before my timeline becomes even further behind.
I'm at a complete loss.

Possible to modify blocks of text as defined by Touch Up Text tool?
I have scanned a document and OCRed it. Using the Touch Up Text Tool, I can approach the text, but the text areas are not as defined by the tool. Is there a way to modify a block as defined? I.e. There is a heading over 2 columns of text. The OCR process defined this as one block of text.

I'm trying to automate this process as much as possible because I don't want to have to crunch the data manually myself later on, instead just teach someone else how to do it.
The first search and replace action seems basic enough but regarding the second one I would have to manually assign that paragraph style to the line where the data would break because one can only assign character styles in nested styles, right?
Also I've heard that ID CS5 automatically creates new pages based on a template when you paste information inside the first page, is that so? That would be great because that way the person wouldn't have to manually create pages and link the contents throughout the document but instead simply open my template and paste the information within the first master page. That's not possible with CS4, is it?

Unable To Use Flash Drawing Or Text Tools--Help!
I'm a Flash CS4 user and two days ago started having a strange problem--when I use any of the drawing or text tools in
Flash, my work disappears as soon as I let go of the mouse button! I've tried reinstalling Flash and that didn't work, and I can't think of any internal settings that could be causing this. And strangely, I'm running Fireworks CS4 on the same computer and am not having any problems with it. Has anyone experienced this? I started learning Photoshop CS4 about a month ago. One of the first things I learned was to add text. Simple, fun. I am now trying to learn about layer masks. One of the exercises in one of my books is to open an image and then add text to it. (The idea is to then add a mask and 'hide' portions of the text behind portions of the image.) A really strange thing is happening when I try to add text. I highlight the image in the layers column. (Prior to adding any mask layers.) I then click the text tool. But when I click on the image (in the area where I want the text), the text tool 'becomes' a move tool. A text layer pops up and the words I'm trying to type on the image come out in the title area for the layer (in the layers column). I've tried everything I can think of to 'get' the text on the image but can't solve it. (And this has been a SIMPLE activity for a month!) Can anyone exlain what's going on? Thanks!

It sounds as if your image resolution is so extreme that the text is not visible.
Look in Image > Image size and tell us the resolution -
Text tool: hitting 'enter' after typing a line disengages text tool
When I type text I get no new line when I hit return (enter). This happens whether I've drawn a text box first or if I'm just typing on a line. The text tool seems to "disengage"—it's still selected in the tool box & layer palette, but I no longer have an active cursor. This means I can only type one line of text at a time. Anything typed after hitting return doesn't show up. The fonts themselves work, and the leading is not so great that the text wouldn't fit in the text box or on the page. I'm hoping this is a common problem/bug that someone has encountered before! CS4 on Windows Vista.
How about this:
Go to Edit Keyboard Shortcuts.
Save the current configuration under a new name.
Load the set called Photoshop Defaults.
See if that helps. -

Text in the right side is the original text. I used the text tool , created a text box and pasted the content.
after that i clicked the selection tool..
then , free transform. (short cut ;e')
When i transformed the text box, the text inside gets shrinked.
Normally, the text content aligns itself within the new box without change in the font size.
something is new now.. the text shrinks or expands now..

thank you ..Did you scale a point text or a group of some point texts? If yes, any tool will scale the text content.
For an area text object, you can do this to just transform the bounding box (characters' size and scale will not be changed):
1. Use Selection tool(Black select) to select the area text object, then scale or rotate.
2.
a. Use Direct Selection tool(White select) to just select the path of the area text(In fact it was called as text container, not bounding box, I made a mistake in the former reply), then select all the anchor points on the path(Shift + Click each anchor points with Direct Selection tool), do this we can really select the bounding box.
Refer to the image below, all anchor points become to solid blue point, and the every line of text content have NO blue underline.
b. Use Scale tool or Rotate tool or Free Transform tool to transform. -
Text Tool Fails After Constrained Crop
I'm making some large buttons for a project and used the constrained crop to standardize the buttons to 200x158. While PS lets me select the text tool, making a new layer, and locate it on the image, the text does not appear in the layer when typed. When I clicked the move tool the layer name changed to the text I had typed but it still did not show in the layer. This behavior does not occur with an unconstrained crop. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
PS CS4 on WinXP-SP3 no OpenGL
