CS4 to CS5 Upgrade Question

I bought a boxed version of Adobe Production Premium CS4 (new) through eBay (their Buy it Now thing) about 3 days before CS5 was released.
I'd like to take advantage of the free upgrade to Production Premium CS5, but I wasn't sure if the free upgrade is only for people who purchased the suite directly from Adobe or any purchase of the suite new from other vendors… ?
Also, if I can do the free upgrade, what do I need to provide Adobe to make it happen?
Thanks,
Michael

You can purchase through other vendors but they have to be authorized resellers.  http://bit.ly/9xYI9p  So I'm not sure if that would qualify in this case.
You do have to go through Adobe to get the upgrade.  Your best bet is to contact Adobe Customer Service directly via email, phone, or chat, and ask them about your situation.
We did an extensive post about this if you need more info.

  • CS4 to CS5 Upgrade has install/configuration problems ???

(My system is running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit )
    Awile back I purchased:
Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 (FULL version) on the Installable DVD's.
...and just recently, last week, I decided to bite the bullit, and go for the 64-bit CS5 version upgrade.
Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (Upgrade version) -downloadable option (its cost $299.00 US)
Method 1./ Now, this seemed to be more of an installation/config issue for me. but after I ran the CS5 upgrade, it did NOT
    upgrade/change any of my Desktop icons/links ?
In other words, the same old CS4 Icons were on the desktop.
Instead, I had to goto C:\Program Files\Adobe\...CS5\..., and then create a shortcut to the CS5 executable onto my Desktop?
    Method 2./
ok, this so-called CS5 upgrade option obviously dos NOT work right.
So, I completely UN-installed CS4 and CS5, and started from scratch again, but this time I simply installed just
    the CS5 Upgrade binaries.
Well that seemed to work fine, and it also seemed to ievennstall all the 64-bit CS5 modules, though it also created some extra CS4 directories in C:\(x86)Program Files\Adobe... ? why would it do that ?
ok, well has anyone else also experienced any of this upgrade weirdness. ?
Note: I verified my Windows 7 64-bit was up-to-date, and I also "updated" CS5, actually it updates itself.
I have also had a couple "BLUE-screenies", and crashes" in CS5, none of which, in Windows I can really tell what is going on ?, and I never had these issues on CS4 on this same PC.?
I called the 1-800 number for Adobe Technical Support and basically they said the CS5 upgrade that I purchased should have worked fine. uhmmm ya'd think eh?
So, I thought this forum might be more "aware", and/or helpful regarding my Upgrading woes.
    any thoughts, would be appreciated.
    Thankyou.
    Rick.

An Adobe upgrade is an upgrade by price, only. What I mean is that you're buying a new, fully separate version of the Adobe software from whatever your previous version was, and upon installation, your previous version is left intact (hence the reason your icons did not change--CS4 was still installed).
An update, on the other hand (which is what the program automagically did), actually does replace files, but only in the version that you're updating. A semantic issue, perhaps, but an important distinction.
You can run CS4 and CS5 side-by-side if you like, but if you want to be rid of CS4 and maintain only CS5, you need to uninstall CS4--or preferably, reinstall from the OS up. I always like to start fresh when a new suite comes along.

  • Adobe CS5 upgrade questions

I am a freelance Mac Operator and I am looking to purchase a new Mac and upgrade my version of CS4 (Design Premium) to CS5.
Could anyone help with the following:
    1. assuming that I do install it on my new Mac, will I need to have version 4 installed first and then make the upgrade?
    2. as I am a freelancer I am often working out of different studios, I would often want to have the version 5 working on different computers (although I would, obviously, only be working on one version at any one time). Ideally I would like to have one version of CS5 installed on my main computer, but have a second version available on a different computer - with the proviso that I would only ever be working on one version of the software at one time - is this permitted?
    3. subject to the answer in point 5 above: is there a maximum number of times I can install Creative Suite on backup computers?

    1. No, but you will need the CS4 serial number in order to activate the software.
    2. The EULA allow you to install and activate on two machines as long as you are the primary user of both and that only one machine at a time will be used.
    3. You can deactivate the software on one machine and the activate it on another. There used to be a limit on this but that's been lifted.
BTW, if you haven't buought it already, Amazon has a decent deal on the CS4 to CS5 Design Premium upgrade. Save $20 and get free shipping: http://amzn.to/gMSGkI

  • Can I delete CS4 after CS5 upgrade?

Can I delete CS4 after I installed the CS5 upgrade, or will that have a negative effect?
    Thanks

If you don't want to keep the older version:
uninstall the older version first, BEFORE installing the new version.
The Adobe Uninstallers have a nasty habit of messing with essential support files of the new version because they mistake them for the older versions.  When that happens, you have to jump through hoops just to uninstall the damaged version, as not even the Uninstaller will work on it. (You would need something called the CS3Clean Script, CS4Clean Script aor CS5Clean.  Avoid having to go there.  Honest.)
All Adobe upgrades are FULL INSTALLERS.  The Upgrade installer will simply ask you for the old serial numbers when it doesn't find an older qualifying version installed.
    Once more:
Do NOT uninstall an older version after upgrading to a new one; do it BEFORE.
    Foretold is forewarned.

  • Cs4 to cs5 upgrade

hi does anyone know if you will
be able to upgrade from cs4 education to cs5 education?
    any prices as yet?
    mark

    >If you still qualify, it is often the same price or cheaper to buy a new educational license than to pay an upgrade price
I work at a University, and use some Adobe products for myself... so I buy at the University web store
I am now on WinXP with CS3 but plan to build a 64bit computer later this year for Win7 Pro 64bit... and am going to buy the CS5 Master Collection, since that is less expensive than buying just a few individual programs
What I know I will use includes Photoshop, Acrobat, Premiere/Encore and Dreamweaver... other products may follow as I have time, so I figure to just go ahead and buy the whole thing now and read/learn later
The just announced MSRP is $2,599 but I haven't (yet) found Education pricing... no particular rush, since the physical product won't be out for awhile anyway... speculation at this link http://prodesigntools.com/when-will-adobe-cs5-be-released.html

  • CS5 Upgrade question

Can I use my CS4 for Windows as a base for an upgrade to CS5 and switch it to a Mac version?

    Thanks Bob ..
I spoke to one of the sales agents and they didn't mention having to remove or destroy the
old copy - in fact they said that some people keep CS3/CS4/CS5 installed so they can go back to old projects.
I'm hoping this is true, because to upgrade from the single product we own on windows and keep the MAC CS4 versionuseable doubles the upgrade cost and makes it too pricey.. I wonder if Adobe would rather sell a £500 upgrade licence than none at all ?

  • Running Photoshop CS3 & CS5 - upgrade questions

    Hi all,
So I understand that you can run both photoshop extended CS3 and CS5 on the same system (not at the same time), but I would like to clarify a few things.
My boss purchsed CS3 extended, and we run it on two systems here at work. When he purchased CS3 he called Adobe and they gave him a second CD key to use on the second system. If we purchase the upgrade to Photoshop Extended CS5 (not creative suite), will it
    - not remove CS3 when we installed
    - work on both systems
    - will it require entering the CS3 CD key that each system uses, or will it just use the one already in use on the computer?

At the moment, 1 computer is 64-bit, and 1 is 32-bit. We may upgrade the second to 64-bit soon, which is running the second serial. Is there any way to check what it its? I'm guessing not...
What do you mean "check what it is"?  You're looking to see what the serial number it was activated with is?  Are you saying you've lost that number?
There's a serial number displayed in the Help - System Info dialog, but it's not one and the same as the one used to activate the software.  Adobe themselves may have some transform they can run on that number, I don't know.

  • CS4 Design Premium upgrade question

I'm looking to upgrade my CS4 to 6. Right now I don't want to upgrade the entire software. Does Adobe offer an option to upgrade Dreamweaver within the CS4 Premium program? Meaning individually vs. all?

    Legacys7 wrote:

    Unfortunately not.
Suites can only be upgraded to suites.
    Your options are:
upgrade CS4 Design Premium to any CS6 Creative Suite (by 31 Dec 2012 or lose any future upgrade eligibility), or
subscribe to the Creative Cloud (by 31 Aug 2012 for special introductory pricing)
    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/creativesuite/faq.html
Am I eligible for upgrade pricing from an earlier Creative Suite edition to an individual CS component?
No. Adobe does not offer upgrade pricing for customers wishing to move from a suite edition to an individual CS component. For complete upgrade information for the product you are interested in, consult the upgrade eligibility chart on that product's buying guide page.
    Bear in mind:
Adobe has introduced a one-version-back policy with CS6 so, as a CS4 user, you must upgrade to CS6 before 31 Dec 2012 in order to be eligible for upgrade pricing to CS7
The clock is ticking. As a CS4 user, you have until 31 Dec 2012 to upgrade to CS6. After that you pay full price (or join the Cloud).

  • CS3 to CS5 upgrade

I need to upgrade my CS3 Design Premium to CS5.  Adobe no longer directly sells this upgrade so I am forced to use resellers.
Question 1)  I have read posts that there IS a difference between a CS3 to CS5 upgrade versus a CS4 to CS5 upgrade.  But, I have received conflicting opinions from Adobe via customer service.  Is there still a difference between the upgrade packages?
Question 2)  Many of the resellers do not specify the difference (if there is one).  Is there any way to be assured of which version?  Does it say on the box?   The difference in price makes this a rather important question.

That deal is for the the CS4 to CS5 upgrade and will not work for you.

  • CS5 upgrade from CS4 - plugins question

    Hi -
can anyone refer me to a list of steps to move all of my plugins from CS4 to CS5 as part of the upgrade?
    My plugins are:
    Anthropics portrait pro 10
Image Trends - Fisheye hemi, pearly whites and shine-off
Nik Software - NIk sharpener, color efex, silver efex
    onONE - mask pro 4
    picture code - noise ninja
    Power Retouche
    Photo Frame 4
    PhotoTools Pro 2.6
I don't really want to run both versions of photoshop... I've done that in the past and never once went back to the old once I upgraded... but open to advice there, too.
    thanks,

You used to be able to transfer them to the new version without reinstalling... is that not possible any longer????…
    Read my previous post again:
You can only use those plug-ins in CS5 that have been upgraded by their particular software developer to run in 64 bits.
CS4 and earlier versions of Photoshop were 32-bit Carbon applications.  CS5 is Cocoa and runs in Snow Leopard in 64 bits.  You will need to get the updated 64-bit versions of your plug-ins from each of their developers.
Otherwise you'll need to run CS5 in 32 bits, with a corresponding loss in performance and any other consequences of running in 32 bits.

  • Upgrading from CS4 to CS5 Prod Premium

Please excuse me if this has been discussed (although I only found one short thread relating to my question).
I have received my upgrade version of CS5.5 (DVD version).
I am currently running CS4.2.1 Do I have to deactivate my current version before I attempt the upgrade?
My installation history started with Prem Pro CS4 then I upgraded to CS4 Prod Premium for the whole suite. My experience of upgrading at that time was stressed!!
I had to go to online support and enter my Prem Pro serial number in with my Prod Premium serial number which produced a THIRD number - oh, the long winded nature of it all.... Meanwhile 24 hours later!
So, is it now quite simple? But do I have to deactivate my current and operational version first?

    Absolutely amazing!
Wow!! I must say my installation experience of CS5.5 was nothing like CS4. It took just 45 minutes - no hassle and once I entered my Adobe ID it didn't even ask for the old serial numbers.
And now the best part. No more red line renders on my HDV timeline which was a real pain as I couldn't even play the timeline after I made adjustments. Now I get a playable yellow bar. This is going to save me hours of edit/render time.
    What a difference...
And to Harm - yes, I don't regret.

  • CS5 Upgrade Version Has No Acrobat 9, but my CS4 version is giving me problems

I have recently reinstalled my OS and I am trying to get CS5 working again. I had CS4 and then upgraded to CS5. When I installed my system fresh I did not install CS4 first and just gave CS5 the CS4 serial numebr when it asked for it. CS5 is working fine in all the apps that I have tried to use. The issue that I am having is that I don't have Acrobat 9 as part of that install, so I installed from my CS4 disk and only installed Acrobat Pro. It installed fine, but when I open Acrobat Pro it gives me an error stating that this application was installed as part of a suite and I need to open something from the suite before it will work. Do I have to install Photshop CS4 just to get Acrobat 9 to work? Why doesn't my CS5 Upgrade just include new install files for Acrobat 9?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

  • Web Premium Upgrade CS4 to CS5 - no need to re-install Acrobat Pro?

Just received Web Premium Upgrade package today. Currently have CS3 Web Standard. and CS4 Web Premium installed so will be removing CS3 Standard before attempting CS5 upgrade. My question concerns Acrobat Pro 9, perhaps obviously given the forum I'm posting in! :-) Would I be correct in assuming that given I have an up-to-date version of Acrobat Pro 9 installed as part of CS4 I can ignore the CS5 Acrobat installation? That's based on an associated assumption that the upgrade package is intended to also cover upgrades from CS4 Standard and other suites that did not include Acrobat Pro.

Apologies; answered my own question! From the CS5 installation instructions (online, not provided with installation package) "If you already have Acrobat 9 Pro installed, either as part of a suite or as a standalone application, you do not need to reinstall it." From http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/825/cpsid_82596.html
