CS4 Upgrade Install Problem

I just bought and downloaded the CS4 upgrade to CS3 and when I extract eh install file, I get an error message that says there is a problem extracting the files, check for available spacwe and privilidges.
When trying to read the extracted .pdf files, Acrobat says that the files are corrupt or not .pdf. When I run the extracted setup file, it creates 2 files and stops with an error message that says " A problem occured when extracting some files. Check available space and write privledges".
I have re downloaded the upgrade 3 times and get the same results.
I even tried it on my other computer running XP Pro and get the same results....same error message and can no open the included .pdf files due to corruption or??
Any ideas??? will help!!!

Hi kfallsbob,
Whenever you install an ESD (downloadable version) of Adobe application, it first extracts the compressed (in CS4, it's .7Z) and the default location is "Desktop". So first thing, ensure you have enough free system on the system partition (generally C:). After that, ensure you have the latest version of Windows Installer and .net. If they are already installed, you may try to create a new user account with ADMIN rights and try to install there.
When installing an upgrade version, it first checks for a previous version and then proceeds with the installation. If you have a Disk for CS3, you need not to have the application installed on the machine for installing the upgrade version. You can simply insert the disk when promoted during the upgrade installation.
If nothing helps, you can perform a clean boot (using msconfig utility) and then try to install the upgrade. Remember to keep the FLEXNET service enabled.
Regards,
Tony

  • CS4 upgrade install quits during AIR

Hi. I need to upgrade CS4 (Design Premium) (upgrade from CS3) on an iMac. However, when I put in the Application 1 DVD, it gets as far as the "Currently installing Adobe AIR" step and then appears to stop. I've left it for more than an hour now and it's still at this stage. No error messages or other hints of any kind.
I can still move the arrow/cursor so I don't think the iMac is locking up.
This has happened with upgrades both on DVD, and downloaded from Adobe's site right after purchasing them. I purchased the upgrade online last week, hoping to upgrade fast. But when the downloaded installer didn't work, Adobe agreed to send me the upgrade on DVD in case the downloaded installer had been corrupted or otherwise screwed up.
The iMac is running OS X 10.5.8. Processor is 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory is 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (all from "About This Mac")
CS3 has run with no problems on this machine and I am not aware of any other issues that this Mac is having. I just need to upgrade so I can handle CS4 files from clients or vendors.
I have a MacBookPro that I can try installing on but I use the MacBookPro more than the iMac. I'd really rather not have it disabled or tied up with an upgrade that takes a long time to install or won't work properly.
Can't get through to Adobe's phone tech support or even customer service. On-hold times upwards of 45 minutes. VERY frustrating and disappointing.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Betsy, below is how I solved my problem last week. Maybe it will help you?:
Apparently my earlier installation attempts had resulted in some stray or partial files that were throwing off the installer.
I removed all the folders with "CS4" in their names in Library/Application Support/Adobe, followed the steps and ran the script at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406241.html#CS4CleanMac, shut down and restarted, and then ran the upgrade installation successfully from the CS4 DVDs.
    Suggestions:
    - Contact Adobe's tech support 800 number EARLY in the day, soon after they open which is 7 am CST, I believe. My wait times on hold were much shorter than later in the day. They were also prompt about calling back within two hours of the end of my tech support call to ask if the problem had been fixed.
    - Even though the software is offered in a downloadable format, just do it the old-fashioned way and buy the disks and install from them. Until I was able to try the disks, I couldn't be sure that the problems weren't being caused by downloaded files that got corrupted. The files for the CS4 upgrade are HUGE and it takes a long time to download anyway. I thought I was saving time by not waiting for the DVDs to be shipped but it didn't work out that way. Adobe's applications are gigantic and complex anymore and there's a lot that can go wrong.

  • PS CS4 upgrade  install hangs while checking system profile

    System is a Core 2 Duo 6700 with 4GB, XP2 Pro SP3.
Installing PS CS4 upgrade over CS3.
Downloaded file unpacks OK, but when running Setup the Checking System Profile bar gets to about 90% the PS Setup window flashes up for barely a second, then the install hangs, ie no further progress with the Checking System Profile (left if for 20 mins or so).
I've downloaded and run a new CS4 upgrade file from Adobe store. No change.
I've added SP3 (was on SP2), no change.
Any one seen this or have any ideas?
    Thanks!

    @Ender
I've been dragging through the installer mud for CS4 ever since a sunny summer day in 2007, so I clearly know some of that stuff... ;-) And sorry to say so, it's simply not the off-screen dialog problem in most of these cases (which a look at the installer logs would very likely confirm). We can discuss this further off-list, if you feel like it, so shoot me a mail to mylenium|-|at|-|mylenium.de. I sure would like to get to know some of the Photoshop-Aliens a bit better (as someone rooted in the video, compositing and 3D world) :-D
    @Mike
Simply move them all out of the way or rename them and see what happens. The installer will create the folders again if needed and if e.g. you still need to run CS3, simply renaming/moving them back to their original state will still work (as long as you don't touch any folders related to licensing or shared core functions such as Anchor Service or Linguistics). If you're not feeling adventurous, then call support, they will provide you with more detailed explanations and hold your hand ;-)

  • Windows XP CS4 Upgrade Install hangs at Checking System Profile...

Problem: When installing from DVDs, the "Checking System Profile..." progress bar makes it to 90%, then hangs, causing you to abort using Task Manager. Changing startup and services settings, or disabling antivirus software doesn't help.
Here's what got me past the hang.
My guess is that it's a DVD player issue. These install disks thrash like crazy during installation. I did this:
    1. Copy the "Application 1" disc contents to a folder on your hard drive then run setup.exe from the folder the same as you would from the DVD (see Adobe install instructions).
    2. The "Checking System Profile..." progress bar completes and gets you to the serial number entry page.
    3. Enter your serial number and let Disc 1 install from your hard drive.
    4. When the installer asks for Disc 2 in the c:\ drive (which can't be done), cancel the installation. You'll get some troubleshooting information and links that you may find interesting. Exit the installer.
    5. NOW try to install Disc 1 from your DVD drive. Again you get "Checking System Profile...", but since you've already entered your serial number, you get the install window for installing or reinstalling CS4 components. Check the programs that you want to install, then proceed. It's working for me so far.
    Good luck,
    J.

Repy to Jeff K (number 1 topic see top of page):
Your method worked for me THANK YOU FOR POSTING YOU ARE A GODSEND!
This is what I did to make it work:
    1) Copied contents from App1 & App2 DVD's. (can take a while, good time to get a cuppa coffee!)
    2) Pasted them into separate folders on my hard drive (named them Adobe CS4 App1 & Adobe CS4 App2
    3) Ran the App1 setup.exe program from the Hard drive and in a few minutes the serial number page appeared (which didn't appear in the many attempts I have done this weekend so I knew this was working well)
    4) Setup goes through the process as you would expect.
    FYI:
    - The virus & firewall did not affect the installation
    - I did use the cs4cleaner but only found 'Adobe Setup' that was linked to anything on my system
    - I did all other 'Adobe support suggested' work arounds, but none worked for me
    - Jeffs suggestion of copying files to Hard drive is the only one that has worked
    - Some suggestions say to remove flash player...don't bother because it's required for other programs and it gets upgraded with the install anyway so no need to uninstall. it caused problems for my HP Officejet 8500 all in one when i did uninstall it...save yourself the extra issues.
    - Dual monitors and graphics cards aren't the issue so don't change any settings there, i have dual monitors didn't create the issue for me.
I'm running XP SP3 on PC with a fresh install of CS4 (not an upgrade).
    hope this helps

  • Upgrade install problem Photoshop CS5 from CS2, MacOS 10.6.8

    Hello,
My wife was using Adobe Photoshop CS2 for a long time.  We purchased a Photoshop CS5 upgrade in 2010 through Amazon, but she never installed it after reading about problems other people had with the upgrade.  It was still in its shrink wrap seal until last night.
Then she recently went to upgrade her Mac laptop to 10.9 Mavericks from 10.6 Snow Leopard, and discovered that Photoshop CS2 will no longer work since CS2 was a PowerPC application.  No problem - we thought we'd just finally install that CS5 upgrade first.  The Amazon web page where we bought the product stated that this was a valid upgrade path, so we thought we would not have a problem.  However, when we went to do the install, we received an "Inconsistency in the installer database" error.
Going to the support live chat, we were told by Yaseer that we could no longer upgrade from CS2 to CS5 because the CS2 "server" was shut down, and we should go to the forums for help with this instead.
Now what?  We own a legal copy of PS CS2, and bought a legal upgrade copy of PS CS5 with the understanding that this was a legal upgrade path, purchased from a reputable dealer (Amazon), but now it doesn't work.  There must be something that can be done here.
I'm not using my wife's Adobe id which she used to register her product, but I can provide that id as well as the serial numbers for CS2 and the CS5 upgrade.

    run the cleaner, http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
    restart your computer
    then try to install cs5.
if you're prompted for a cs2 serial number and your cs2 number fails, use the one linked from this page:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l

  • CS4 UPGRADE INSTALL DIRECTORY VISTA 64 NOT x86

    Hi all,
I would like to know if its safe that my CS4 Master Collection upgrade installation directory was in Program Files instead of the usual Program Files (x86)?  Everything is working fine, however CS3 Master Collection applications are still installed and working normally (isn't that strange?) and of course the plugins I had installed in CS3 are not available in CS4.  I don't mind that much that CS3 is still installed, I know it has happened to others, however it is a real drag that my plugins are not available.  Should I uninstall the upgrade and reinstall in the Progam Files (x86) directory instead?  Your comments would be much appreciated.
    Nikos

Thanks for your response Bob.  After a few hours (and an uninstall and reinstall on one computer) I realized that even though the directory location I was prompted to install to during installation was different than usual, the applications still wound up in the right place. All the 32 bit in the x86 folder, and Photoshop 64 verision in the regualr program files folder on my vista 64 platform.  I discovered this on one of the other computers that I installed on but did not proceed to the uninstall phase.  I still unfortunately had to re-install all my plugins and put them in the media core folder but for CS4.  This was such a big hassle especially with some of my plugin suites that install one by one.
I still haven't researched the subject of uninstalling CS3, which I will probably attempt next week.  Of course I am not going to try it until I have researched the subject in greater detail because I found some other users saying that uninstalling CS3 when you have used an upgrade option to CS4 is dependant on some CS3 files and after the uninstall of CS3 all was NOT working properly.  Thanks again for your input. At least for this week I am already editing and enjoying CS4.

  • CS4 Production Install Problems - Photoshop

Trying to run Photoshop CS4 I keep getting the error "Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall the application."
I have re-installed 4 times now with no success.  And have tried the CS4 cleanup script recommended on the forum.
I have to say, trying to install CS4 has been a difficult and time consuming process.  Mirroring the experiences of several others on the forum.
Along with several others on the forum, I had the BSOD issue right out of the box, especially with the 2nd DVD.  I couldn't even use xcopy or Windows copy/paste to get the DVD files to my desktop, it caused BSOD or access violation.  So there's definitely something funny with the DVDs.
I had to use a MacBook to copy the files then transfer them over the local network.  After wasting days on it and repeated research on the web and here.
Then I had to use the CS3&4 cleanup scripts and other methods on the web to cleanup after the failed BSOD install.  Now installed, except for the Photoshop issue above.
    Windows XP SP3
    2gig RAM
    3.6GHz Pentium 4
    240gig HD, 71.8gig free

Possibly.  But given the fact that several other individuals report the same exact issue encountered, especially with disc 2, and the fact I've never encountered the problem before with any other DVD software, it makes me curious.
I have done a complete reformat and reinstall of XP (machine was due for it anyways).  Still the same "missing components" error.  If the message box was more specific, self-diagnosis of the issue and resolution might be alot easer.
Will try tech support later to see if they have anything useful to offer.

  • Upgrade install problems - help please!

    Hi,
I’m having problems upgrading my iMac from OSX v. 10.2.8 to Tiger. ‘Just put the disc in and follow the instructions’, they said cheerily in the shop!
The first couple of attempts the install crashed at the ‘Destination Drive’ stage. We have since verified and repaired hard disk. We then managed to proceed and chose to "upgrade" on the hard drive. The process started well and spent some time verifying both the installion disk and the location drive.
The system seemed to start installing (and had been working away for 10 minutes or so) until the disk drive made nasty clunking noises, the coloured spinning wheel comes up and it crashes again. Error logs have been produced each time. After that point, it seems to have wiped all our internet connection details. So, posting this from work and hoping to get some replies so I can check in and try again at home tonight!
It is now crashing at the ‘Destination Drive’ stage again even though we have re-verified and repaired hard disk (there were no repairs req'd). I have checked that we have got enough disk space and have backed up files (although not internet account details – grrr).
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Gulliver (and thanks for your welcome),
I'm pretty sure that our system requirements are OK. We have an iMac G4 with superdrive, 512mb RAM, 80GB hard drive, no 3rd party cards, currently running 10.2.8.
I do have the full DVD - bought from an Apple shop, not coming with any other hardware.
I had actually already seen your 'Decision Tree' from another post. I note that you recommend an Archive and Install from 10.2.x, but at the moment we can't get past the destination drive part to choose that option!
I think the next thing we need to try from your procedure is to run DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro 4. Which means I'll have to reset internet settings so that I can get them! (Checking from work it seems your TechTool link does not work - searching on Micromat, I'm not sure which version we would need to use - possibly Classic??) Are these available for free? I'm a bit loath to throw money at the problem just yet... especially when it's not certain that it will solve the problem anyway. If we do this, you state - "Make sure you use the latest version, older versions might not be compatible with Tiger!" - do you mean even if they are not compatible with our current operating system? Sorry for all the questions!
No doubt I'll be posting again after I've tried that!
    Thanks again.

  • CF9 upgrade install problem

We are upgrading from CF8 standard to CF9 standard.  Configuring the administartor hangs at the importing of previous settings each time.  It is on a windows server 2003 virtual machine.  Any suggestions on getting past this hurdle?

Ah, ok. (And I see you later wrote that you resolved things.) For the sake of others who may see this thread, I had written all the below before seeing that.
As for the import on the upgrade not working in CF 9, there is indeed a fix for that:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/527/cpsid_52797.html
Not sure if it's your problem specifically, had you perhaps applied that? Or the updater (more below).
As for this hotfix, I find it interesting that it is NOT listed in the Cumulative Hotfix (CHF1) for CF9:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/825/cpsid_82536.html
Now, we would assume that it IS included in the CF 9 Updater 1 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/847/cpsid_84723.html, which brings you to CF 9.0.1), but it's not listed in the list of things fixed:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/847/cpsid_84726.html
I found that hard to believe, so I searched the page for the phrase "import", and indeed I find that it references a different issue: 80509 (the one above is 52797).
So yes, updating to 9.0.1 will also fix this issue.
Curiously, though, if someone wanted to stay on CF 9.0, that different bug number is ALSO NOT listed in the CHF 1 for CF9 (and there's no reference to any issue related to "import"). And to be clear, the page I offer above linking to the CHF for CF9 is definitely not mistakenly the CFH 1 for 9.0.1 (which is at http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/862/cpsid_86263.html, and oddly though the file names are the same, the paths are different).
But again, @lsandell2, you can certainly apply the one hotfix (first one above) manually to 9.0 (not needed for 9.0.1, it seems).
Finally, speaking of all the updaters, hotifixes, and CHFs, if anyone's wondering: no, even if you download CF9 today, you DO NOT get those. You get the base version of CF 9.0, and need to apply these after that. If you want to go from a fresh install of CF9 to the latest, you would need to a) get and install CF9, then b) get and install the CF9 updater (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/847/cpsid_84723.html), and then c) apply the CHF 1 for 9.0.1 (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/862/cpsid_86263.html).
People often moan, "why does Adobe make us go through all that", but the problem for them is that they would have to recertify the new build on all the operating systems and web servers they support. I realize it may seem a lame excuse, but it is what it is. To their credit, I notice that they do at least offer a clear indication of the available 9.0.1 updater at the top of the page where one would download CF (at least the trial and dev editions) at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=coldfusion, which link may require that you log in to see it.)  Sadly, I see nothing like that on the buy page:
    https://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/index.cfm?store=OLS-US&view=ols_prod&category=/Appl ications/ColdFusionE&distributionMethod=FULL&nr=0#view=ols_prod&loc=en_us&category=/Applic ations/ColdFusionE&store=OLS-US
Anyway, let us know if the above helps you, Lsandell2.

  • CS4 Silent Install Problems.

I was wondering if anyone has seen this issue when running a slient install of Adobe CS4.

I tried to look up this error on the net, but all I saw was that you need to register the jscript.dll file. I've done so with regserv32 operation and this does not solve the problem.
BTW, I did use the Adobe Deployment Toolkit.
    Any ideas?

All workstations you install CS4 on need windows installer 3.1 installed prior to a silent install.
Well that solved the problem for me!

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended install problem

Hi all, have loaded up CS4 Design Premium onto the pc. All software went well except for photoshop - it seems to be CS4 (standard not 'extended') that has installed. The splash screen says Photoshop CS4 (not 'extended'), the file types list mentions no 3D files, etc. This was after doing a full reinstall (after trying the typical first time around) to make sure I didn't miss anything. Can anyone pls let me know if there was something extra we needed to do to access the 'extended' tools? (hoping its something obvious thats just got straight past me). Cheers.

I would give Adobe customer service a call or their sales area. From what it looks like it is a serial number issue and nobody except them can help you out. They will need to give you a serial number to unlock the extended part since it looks like the serial number is just for CS4.

At which time I clicked yes. then it would go a bit farther and repeat the process all over again. Win XP

Yes, some newer Adobe program or another update gone wrong  has tainted your installer database and now is blocking updates. There are a few combinations that cause this and it is a known issue. Nothing you can do but uninstall everything Adobe, delete the caps.db and install from scratch, obeying the correct install order. See this and this page for some more generic info on how to deal with install issues.

  • Cs4 / win7 install stalls flash player 10 plugin--how to fix?

I am transferring Creative Suite to a new computer, Win7. I have CS3 with a CS4 upgrade. The CS4 upgrade install window is stalling halfway thru, on 'currently installing flash player 10 plugin'. Any suggestions? Do I have to quit and uninstall everything so far, just retry the install, or is there some other workaround?

Uninstall Flash Player separately from your Add or Remove Programs panel. it chokes, because there is already a newer version on your system and you need to get rid of it first. You may even go so far as to unistall everything Adobe and delete the caps.db as explained here.
