CS4: upgrade to CS6 or the Cloud?

I currently have CS4, and have bought a new Mac which wants me to downgrade Java to 6. Should I upgrade from CS4 to CS6 instead or, if possible, upgrade to the cloud. I consider myself a novice+ CS user.

There is no upgrade path from CS4 to CS6. You can only upgrade to CS6 from CS5+.
If you wanted CS6, you'd have to pay full price.
The Cloud is a viable option and you can get a discounted rate for the first 12 months. After that, you pay normal price. Just bear in mind that the Cloud is subscription only. When you stop paying your monthly fee, the software stops working.
It's really up to you and how you use the software as to whether the Cloud is worthwhile for you. Perhaps download the trial version and take it for a spin for free for up to 30 days.

  • Upgrading Photoshop CS6 using the cloud.

Every time I try to upgrade Photoshop CS6 with the cloud I get error U44MIP7. Then after a few weeks it upgrades ok. Any ideas? I don't think Adobe is really ready to prime time on the cloud yet.

It appears the 13.0.1.2 update is the problem.
Here is a summary of the fix:
    1) UNinstall Photoshop (no need to uninstall anything else in CS6)
    2) Reboot your computer (just to make sure nothing is hanging around in memory)
    3) Install Photoshop and immediately quit the Creative Cloud app
    4) Run photoshop
    5) Go to HELP > UPDATES
    6) EXPAND the update group and UNselect the 13.0.1.2 update
    7) Apply the 13.1.2 update

  • Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

I currently am running Adobe CS2 on my Windows XP computer. I will soon have to upgrade to Windows 8, and I know CS2 will not run on Windows 8, but I also know that my files will not open in CS3 ('ve tried opening an Illustrator CS2 file in CS3, and it wouldn't open). Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

CS3 will definately open a cs2 file. Something is not right if it won't.  I have been using illsutrator since CS2 and have not had an issue yet.

  • CS4 upgrade to CS6 Where did my plug ins go?

CS4 upgrade to CS6: where did my plug ins go?

where did my plug ins go?
Nowhere. They are still happily in your (former) PS CS4 plug-in directory. There is no such thing as automatic migration. You need to obtain the proper CS6 versions from the vndors (possibly at extra cost) and install those.

  • I can't update  PS CS6 from the cloud

    Hello evryone
The instalerenvan an update for PS CS6 from the cloud, stop contineu and displays an error message. It appears to be that has something  to do with the Adobe Extension Manager CS6 has to do an update. The update stop when he charging around  60%.
    What should I do?
    thanks
    greeting walter

So, after a rather unhelpful subsequent chat with customer support I did the following:
    1. Save a copy of my existing 13.0.4 PS folder
    2. Run PS Uninstall to uninstall my existing PS
    3. Run Application Manager. Now it allows me to install PS from the cloud, which took about 45 minutes.
    4. Launch PS just downloaded/installed. Note that About says its 13.0 (!!).
    5. Go to Help->Updates and see that it lists 13.1.2. Go ahead and update.
This works, apparently. Now I have the cloud version of PS 13.1.2 running.
And I can still run my 13.0.4 version from another location.  Of course, I'll have to copy the plug-ins I bought from the copied PS folder into the downloaded cloud PS folder (and I hope that works!).
This does illustrate a general problem with the cloud: What about the user's pre-existing apps?  It would be nice if the App Manager recognized that there are versions of the Cloud apps installed on a system and gave the user the option of explicitly updating to the cloud versions, but without destroying the pre-existing ones. My concern, still, is what happens when I decide to let my cloud subscription expire and revert back to using my fully paid PS (and LR) apps. Will I still be able to use them? Will my paid license still be valid? Will I still be able to update them?
I assume that this must be a very common situation. Especially with PS and LR. But Adobe hasn't provided a smooth transition to and off the cloud. They should.

  • Cs4 upgrade to cs6

I was very disappointed to read that CS4 owners can no longer upgrade to CS6.  When we register for the product we enter our email addresses, so why weren't we notified in advance?
Please confirm if there are any "loop-holes" to still allow an upgrade, or if you are just turning your backs all together on loyal customers?
I will pay immediately if approved, but if not I would like to make note that this would be very disspointing that you do not value return customers.
    Thanks,
    Raimey

This topic has occupied large parts of the Internet in 2011 and then again in 2012 after Adobe already extended the grace period after lots of bad word of mouth from users. It was hard to not stumbel across it on any place that even remotely has to do with Adobe software. You had plenty of advance warning, if you consider this... In any case, this is not something anyone here can fix. As Mr. Murphy said, you will have to contact support directly.

What are the steps I need to take to upgrade my Macbook with Tiger to Lion and the cloud?  I have the install disk for Snow Leopard.

Hi Carol, good/sound advice by Ziatron so far.
We need more info about your Mac to see if it will even be capable,
So we know more about it...
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware> and report this upto but not including the Serial#...
    Hardware Overview:
    Model Name: iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 6 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM71.007A.B03
    SMC Version (system): 1.21f4
You'll need to buy SL/10.6 first & get it to 10.6.8, then get Lion... if you can run it.
Or if you can erase your disk...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they do still have it:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
    If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    Lion/101.7 System requirements
        •    x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
        •    At least 2GB of memory, (I say 4GB)
        •    Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
        •    At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, (I say 40GB at least)
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.
It looks like Apple will have Lion available on USB drives for $69...

  • I cannot download Photoshop CS6 from the cloud

I had a beta version of Photoshop CS6 on my Macbook (OS X 10.7.4) and forgot to uninstall it before downloading Photoshop CS6 through the Adobe Application Manager. When I tried to download Photoshop CS6 I received an error message in the Adobe Application Manager that read "A beta version of this product exists on the computer. Please quit and uninstall that version before continuing."
I clicked 'Cancel' then quit the Application manager and uninstalled the beta version that I had. I also used spotlight to find any other files that went with the beta verision I had and then trashed all of the files, emptied the trash and restarted my computer.
After doing all of that I've tried numerous times to download Photoshop CS6 but I keep getting the error message that I still have a beta version of Photoshop CS6 installed.
I've searched my computer and cannot find any files that pertain to that beta application.
I don't know what else to do and I REALLY need Photoshop CS6 asap.
I'm not having any issues downloading the other CS6 applications through the App Manager, only Photoshop, which is the most iportnat program I need.

    Nevermind!
I just found out about the 'Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool' and downloaded it and ran the tool. Thankfully it found a driver for Photoshop CS6 (beta) that was stilled installed on my computer. I was able to uninstall the driver and trash it. Right now Photoshop seems to be downloading successfully from the App manager. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't run into any other issues!
If anyone else is running into a similar issue that I was having download the 'Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool' and run it on your computer.

  • Photoshop CS4 upgrade to CS6 Exstended?

i was wondering if photoshop cs4 is enough to up grade to photoshop cs6 exstended or do i have to have cs5 or cs6?

    Hi AoiroKibou55,
I was looking at the upgrade options here: https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_ creativesuite6.html?start=10
It looks like upgrading requires at least Photoshop CS5.

  • Can you still upgrade retail CS6 to non-Cloud CS6 Extended?

As per the title, I have zero interest in the CC/Cloud edition, which I realise makes things tricker nowadays, but I recently bought a retail copy of CS6 and was wondering if I could upgrade to the Extended edition on Adobe, still keeping it retail.  Looking in Adobe's buy/upgrade drop-down section (which I found hard to find anyway) I only see a way to upgrade CS5 to CS6 Extended, with no mention of CS6.  I've also no idea if that keeps it retail rather than the subscription either.  Any help appreciated.

I hope you can get just what you want.
But if you can't, ask yourself:  How many months of $9.95 subscription could you buy (what does an Extended upgrade cost?  $300?)?
Could you buy the subscription a  year at a time, and invest a few hundred dollars in Adobe stock and pay for the subscription for an even longer-term?
And you'll get better 3D support in Photoshop CC.
    Just food for thought.

  • I am trying to download the Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 upgrade for CS6.  The files will not unzip.

I am trying to download the Adobe Camera Raw 7.1 upgrade.  The zipped files download, but when I try to extract the zipped files, I get an error message saying that there is already a file with the same name as the folder name I specified, and that I should specify a different name.  The four zipped components are META-INF [Folder], payloads [Folder], AdobePatchInstaller [Application file\, and payloads [File].  Evidently, there is a conflict between the payloads folder and the payloads file, but I cannot be sure.  All filenames came from the download.

Are you using CS6 applications ? Camera Raw 7.1 is only compatible with CS6 applications. Try this as mentioned on http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5391
For Photoshop CS6 and Creative Suite 6 customers, we recommend that you install Camera Raw 7.1 by selecting Updates from the Help menu and follow the on-screen dialogs to download and install the latest available Camera Raw update. You can also click the link below to download an installer that replaces the existing Camera Raw plug-in with Camera Raw 7.1 for all CS6 applications.

  • CS4 upgrade to CS6: where did Version Cue go?

Ok, please pick up your jaw and clear out the cobwebs. Yes, I'm moving from CS4 to CS6. Searching has drawn no results, and guess-and-click is killing time. How does CS6 version files? Is there a utility to get CS4 Version Cue projects into CS6?
I work in a small team, so basically, how does CS6 help us to work together?

Version Cue is dead. You need to look into commercial third-party management solutions like a Sharepoint server.
