CS4 v4.1.0 some vob files import only first few seconds

I have a mini-DVD camcorder that creates vob files which I wish to edit in Premiere Pro CS4 v4.1.0.
I find that there are four .vob files on the DVD, one is a chapter index, the other three compose what I recorded.
I am able to import all of the latter three, however, only the middle one includes the full track of 16 minutes.  The first and last one import as only about 10 seconds instead of the seven minutes each is.
I tried to work around using DGIndex.exe and MeGUI Modern Media Encoder for the other two, but this only gives me the video, without the audio.
So, either I need a way to rip the audio off the two vobs and hopefully not mess up the lip sync too much or to get the vob files to import correctly into Premiere Pro.
Any help appreciated.  This is Windows XP SP3.
Thanks.

Well, there are VOB's, and then there are VOB's. Being a Video Object, they can contain a lot of "stuff." This ARTICLE will give you a bit of background.
Dag's suggestion is one that many use and the conversion program gets high marks from many users.
Good luck,

Hi just wanted to let you know I solved most of my XP problems with my new IPOD. It won't recognise the IPOD or driver and froze and locked up and then the battery died. After hours of trying different things here is what I did. I completly closed computer down. Waited 15 minutes turned on and reloaded everything. I put the usb cable in but not hooked up to IPOD. I turned off Mcaffee (all of it). After my computer came on. I then went and closed everything I didn't need in the bottom toolbar. (taskbar). I then reloaded the software and waited. Took forever to reload and I don't know why but whatever it worked but I DID NOT HOOK UP THE IPOD LIKE IT SAID! I instead shut down the computer after loading the software and waited 5 minutes and turned it back on. I again waited and shut of mcaffee. It loaded everything fine this time and said new hard ware and drivers detected. I plugged my IPOD in and YES I WAS UP AND RUNNING (THIS IS AFTER 6 HOURS OF PLAYING WITH OTHER THINGS!) I am able to load and play, burn, watch movies, see pictures and everything your suppose too! The only thing I see different than the instructions is I left my usb cable plugged in and when it said to eject the disk I didn't. I also didn't plug in the IPOD (5th Gen) and then I shut down waited and then restarted the computer. I hope this helps others because I know the feeling of wanting to return something you paid dearly for and worked hard at saving money to buy one and it doesn't work. My only thing I dislike about apple is they didn't supply a ac adapter for the IPOD and the instructions say to plug it up when trying to charge battery. DUHHHHHH, ya can't do that if ya don't have one and stores are closed and won' open until Monday! But at least I am up and running. I just hate having to plug up IPOD to computer daily to charge the battery which only last a half a day1

  • When importing from CD, iTunes only imports the first few seconds

    Hi,
Does anyone know why when I import a CD into iTunes it only imports the first few seconds of the track rather than the whole track? How can I fix this?
    Thanks
    Jimmy

Jimmy, What happens when you rip the same CD with a different program on the same computer, such as Windows Media Player?

  • Can't import full track from CD, only first few seconds

Please help. I'm at my wits' end on this.
I bought an iPod Nano yesterday. I installed iTunes on my PC. My PC runs Windows XP. I Put a CD in the CDROM. Up came a list of 20 tracks with the correct lengths (all 3 minutes or so long.)
I then tried to import them and all I got was about the first 12 - 15 seconds of each one. When they transfer to the iPod itself, each track sounds OK for the first 12 - 15 seconds, then stops.
I have tried this with several different CDs from different bands, and different publishers. I have uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it. I have tried importing by three methods:
    1) Using the big "Import from CD" button, top right.
    2) Dragging and dropping the CD icon onto the Library icon.
    3) Highlighting and dragging and dropping the tracks onto the library icon.
I went back to the shop and the man there demonstrated the process, and he did exactly what I do, and it worked. He suggested I should uninstall/reinstall.
I went to a different shop for a second opinion. They also said uninstall/reinstall.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Still I find I can only get the first 15 seconds or so of each track.
I have looked at every option on every drop down menu and can find nothing that appears relevant.
I am now banging my head against a wall in desperation.
    Please help.
    Mike

How frustrating, your cute little nano won't play!
OK, what options do you have checked on iTunes > Edit >prefrences > Advanced > Importing?
If you check off the option for "Use error correction when importing CDs" will it work?
Also you might try reading some posts over on the importing & burning forums, the CD experts hang out over there. They will probably want to see the results of your iTunes > Help > Run CD Diagnostics ....

  • Partial vob file import

When I import .vob files, PE4 only imports the first two thirds of the file.  I don't think I had this problem the last time I worked with .vob files, so it may be specific to the three I'm working with.  The quality is fine, it just cuts off early.  Two of the files should be 30 minutes and come in at 20 and one is 8 minutes and comes in at 5.  All three files play completely in KMP.  I've never had memory problems with PE and have only had a couple of crashes, and I've worked with 30-minute files in the past.  The files are not copy-protected and are being imported from my hard drive.

You beat me to the punch. I was about to add a link to that, but you found it first. Good detective work. Too few think to look in the Tips & Tricks. After a search of the FAQ's, that is my second stop for a problem.
Now, as you have found, not all DVD-R's create DVD's equally. Some are good, but some not. It is most often an issue with their simple menuing systems, that are not DVD-spec.
My Panasonic VHS to DVD player has that problem, but then I do not use the DVD's from it for editing - only archiving. I will either Capture the VHS tape directly through my A-D bridge, using its software, to DV-AVI Type II files, or if I have a DVD that I need to edit from, will play that DVD (in the other side of my dual player) and Capture it the same exact way. I cannot recall the last time that I ripped a .VOB, and just Capture, though that is in Real Time. This first allows me to Capture just what I need, or to make notes, if I'm going to edit the whole thing - time well-spent.
Good luck, and hope the Article was helpful,

  • Streamed MP3 music files losing first few seconds

My Apple TV seems to drop the first few seconds of MP3 music files when they are streamed from iTunes, but not when they are synced to the Apple TV.
The number of seconds that are dropped varies from none at all for some songs to 20, or much more than that ... but seemingly never more than a minute.
When I select one certain song in a particular playlist -- "Song for the Mira" by the Garrison Bros. -- the time shown is 5:19. When I press play on the Apple TV remote the time changes to 5:00, very briefly ... just before the Apple TV starts to play the song with its first 19 seconds missing, as if it were really a 5:00 song.
From that time on (unless I reload the iTunes library) every time I select the same song from any playlist, or from under Songs, or Albums, or whatever, the time is always shown right away as 5:00. So Apple TV is "remembering" the time of the song.
If I cause Apple TV to reload that iTunes library, the time goes back to 5:19 until I actually play the song again, at which time it becomes 5:00 again.
The amount of time that is sliced off from the beginning of a song is always consistent for that song. So if the amount is 12 seconds one time for a particular song, it is always 12 seconds.
I have not altered the start or end points of affected songs in iTunes.
As far as I can tell, this never happens with Protected AACs.
It never happens with synced copies of the MP3s, only with streamed playback.
I have the latest versions of iTunes (7.3.2) and of the Apple TV software (1.1).
Restoring the Apple TV to factory settings, re-downloading the software, etc., have no effect on the problem. Nor does restarting my iMac, which is running OS X 10.4.10. Nor does restarting the various base stations on my wireless network, all of which have the latest firmware.
Anyone else have a problem with the beginnings of streamed MP3s being truncated? Anyone know what to do about it? Thanks.

Since my last post to this thread I have discovered:
    (1) I was wrong in thinking there is no pattern to the number of seconds lopped off at the beginning of various MP3s when streamed to my Apple TV. Actually, I have found that the same number of seconds is dropped from every song in a particular album or compilation!
So my "Sounds of Nova Scotia, Vol. 1" compilation -- which contains the "Song for the Mira" that is reduced from 5:19 to 5:00 at the start of Apple TV's streamed playback -- has 19 seconds removed at the start of every track when its tracks are streamed to Apple TV. (It does not appear to be significant that this particular track seems to be rounded to the nearest minute. Cutting the first 19 seconds off the other tracks in the compilation does not bring them to an even minute.)
My Beatles' "Abbey Road" album has not 19 but 30 seconds dropped at the start of every streamed track!
    (2) I was also wrong in reporting that the time change from, say, 5:19 to 5:00 is "remembered" by Apple TV the next time I select the affected track from a list on the TV screen. Actually, the next time I select the track, it shows up as 5:19 again. But if I press Play, that changes to 5:00 in the split second just before the track actually starts to play ... and then the progress bar that appears at that point, when the actual song is being played, reflects a 5:00 total time, not 5:19.
To recap what I said before, this happens only when I stream (even from the syncing iTunes), not when I play a synced copy. AACs are unaffected. Not all MP3s seem to be affected, though all in an affected album or compilation are affected the same way, by having an identical number of seconds lopped off. I have the latest software/firmware in all my devices. Restarts/resets do not help. The problem persists in copies of copies of the affected MP3 tracks streamed from iTunes _on my other Mac_, a MacBook Pro. The problem does not occur when I play the tracks right in iTunes on either machine. I am not using manually set start and stop times on the affected tracks in iTunes. I do not have *Part of a Gapless Album* or *Remember Playback Position* set in Info in iTunes Preferences, though I have tried setting *Part of a Gapless Album*, with no effect on the problem.
Anyone have any more ideas as to what might be causing this? Thanks.

BaconBits is right to ask if the files are protected or not.
DRM files can only be transferred using Windows Media Player, Creative MediaSource or Nano Media Explorer so that the licenses are transferred. Do not try drag'n'drop with Windows Explorer on porotected files. This is explained in the Help file manual on your CD.
Also do not use Audible Manager to transfer music files.

    hi y'all!
it's worth checking through the usual suspects first. (the upgrade may have "outstripped" your current hardware/OS/driver setup.) Start with:

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).

  • I'm just downloaded the creative cloud installer.  Double click on the install file, it starts the installation and after only a few seconds it stops and nothing happens.  What is going on?

why does the cloud installer quit after only a few seconds of install?

I am having the same problem. Sorry I don't know an answer but would love help too.
    I'm on a Mac - OSX10.9.3
Downloaded installer which opened to the point that I had the icon in my toolbar but it seemed to get stuck at that point - about 7 hours of scrolling "update cycle" (swirly thing in middle of the empty CC window) but no App tab or other tabs - just a white rectangle with scrolling.
So I tried un-installing, deleted all files, downloaded again but now I get the same as Scrapnick - installer launches with task bar at "Initializing Installer" which lasts only about 2 seconds, then flicks to "Dowloading Creative Cloud desktop" at which point the task bar & the installer window close.
I hope someone can help us with this...

  • Recorded TV in 16:9.  VOB file imported into Premier Elements as 4:3

I have imported a VOB file into Premier Elements.  It has been recorded in 16:9 format.  Unfortunately, when imported it converts to a 4:3.  Can some please explain why?
    Tony

In the Project Panel, you can Rt-click on the Clip and choose Interpret footage. There, you can change things like Frame Rate, PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), and can also change how an Alpha Channel is used, should your footage have an Alpha Channel.
It can be useful, especially with regards to the PAR. Since Frame Size is the same for NTSC 4: 3 & 16:9, except for the PAR to display "regular," or WideScreen.
Good luck, and do check out how well your machine handles the Menuing functions. That is where many DVR's and VHS to DVD, plus much software deviates from the DVD-specs. Because the first .VOB contains Menus, as well as the first part of the MPEG-2 stream, it is usually where problems will arise. This is covered in that article. With programs, such as Adobe Encore, the DVD's first .VOB WILL be 100% DVD-compliant.

  • Sony Camcorder VOB File import

I have a Sony DVD Camcorder. The video files are created in a VOB file type extension. It seems that I need to convert the file types to be compatible and import to imovie. How do I convert and with what? Will I loose quality in the conversion process? What camcorder type will be more compatible with imovie? Does anyone want to buy my Sony DVD camcorder?

    Hi!
I use freeware called OpenShiiva to convert my VOB files to mpeg-4's. It's been handy once I realized I couldn't sync my Sony Handycam DCR-DVD201 to my iMac. I've never noticed a decline in quality. Here's a link to the site where you can download this software:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11973
I'm wondering if my camcorder is now compatible with iMovie 08 b/c apple has tested some of the newer sony camcorders and they do work:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306171#2
However, I will have to upgrade to Tiger before upgrading to iLife 08.
Fortunately, I have a friend with a PC who wants to buy my camera.
    Good luck!
