[CS4] When highlight layers have no color at all

CS4
I'm not seeing any hightlight color at all on my menu buttons.
I checked in photoshop on layer named `(=1)'
The eyeball is off, so turning it on to see the color but there is none, nor is there a small frame showing the
range the color is meant to cover.
How to manually set a color there?  Can I just select a frame similar to my button with rectangle selection and dump color on it?
Well, no.  I did that, and set opacity to %47.   Turned the eye back off, Now the button is constantly `on' even when I just have the menu selected in the encore window..  I know that is wrong.
I see `Menu/Edit menu color set' .  Its set to `automatic' , I changed it to `menu default'.
I noticed one of the colors in group1 was identical or awfully close to my menus' background color, so I thought "Ahaaa" change that one to some thing that will be visible on my bkg color.
I changed to something that would show, and changed another one that was vaguely close, also to something that would definitely show.
It appears to have had no effect whatever, and its not at all clear what that editor is really supposed to do.  Or at least, editing the colors seems to have no effect on the highlight color.

You set the colors with the color sets in Encore, not in PS.
What you described regarding working with the color set is correct.
I would try a new menu, and see if that is working correctly.  Then either do the menu over, or work some more with the color set - and try to make sure the opacity, etc is correct (back to correct) in PS.
With your input I tinkered some more and was able to fix it by manually building 1 highlight layer in photoshop, including the actual color area and color choice,  then copying and eding it around the rest of the button groups.
Probably a little easier than redoing the whole menu.
When you say `You set colors with color sets in Encore, not in ps', I guess you meant that its easier that way,  but for the record it can be done in photoshop too.  I built the  color area and selected the color all in photoshop (since it was doing nothing at all when I tried it in Encore).
I'm pretty sure though that Encores' color sets editor not impacting the hightlight color on this go around  was because I'd already jacked up the original assemblage of layers and such that make up the buttons.
Anyway... all is well and thanks for the clues.

Looking at the same photo before flattening, what is being shown is only the top layer.
    How do I correct this?

The top layer is indeed the one that is visible, unless there is/are area(s) of translucency on that layer, so that you can visualize a portion of the subjacent layer.

Are your settings targeted to have the printer manage colors, or, to have PSE manage colors?

  • CS4 crashes when moving layers

I am running OS 10.5.8 on a 2.66 Quad-Core Xeon Mac Pro with 8G of ram.  OFTEN when I simply try and drag a layer above or below another layer, Photoshop will crash.  Has anyone experienced this before and have they found a working solution?

I had this problem in Photoshop CS4 when running Leopard, somehow finally got it to stop when I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 and applied the update, now it has migrated to Snow Leopard (a clean OSX install, to boot) much to my displeasure.
It happens whenever I'm not paying attention... I'll "move" a layer up or down a few slots like usual, or attempt to move a layer when Photoshop might be consuming a lot of resources (i.e. finishing off a filter effect), or even if I try and move a layer while the layer is being transformed and has not been finalized.
The times this has happened are numerous and annoying, always seemingly random. I could have only five active layers and it will happen, or 10 tabbed projects all with 20 layers, it doesn't matter.
Never tried using keyboard shortcuts for layer arrangement—will have to try that now. Will also start sending the error reports.
I should note that this problem never occured in Photoshop CS3. There is one good thing that has come of this: I've been relying on, and thus mastering, Illustrator a whole lot more which is rock solid for me. I love it.
EDIT: I've got a 2.4ghz MacBook Pro (the late 2008 unibody model) with 4GB of RAM. I usually run on the 9400M integrated graphics chip... I can't remember if this happens on the 9600 discrete or not.

  • CS4 When I open new document I get a swatch pallet full of colors.

CS4 When I open new document I get a swatch pallet full of colors. Is there a way to open a new document with no colors in the swatch pallet?
    Thanks

Search for New Document Profiles. Open each file that you regularly use and from the Action panel run the default action Delete Unused Panel Items. Save the file. You should now have empty swatch panels.

  • I also have a color problem when Save For Web

Using Photoshop CS4 and I also have a problem when I use the "Save for Web & Devices" My colors also get bleached. I found a thread with the same problem but on Windows.
As I have a Macbook Pro I can not change my monitor settings. In the SFW I check "Convert to sRGB" but it make no difference. I also tried to convert in the menu before using SFW. So I need some help here.
Here is a screen shot on my screen: http://www.scancyp.com/dump.jpg

    Also I was wondering why?
You need to calibrate and profile your monitor regularly and often
First:  Because monitors can and do drift.  In CRTs all kinds of electronic components and the phosphors themselves age; in LEDs and LCDs the back-light illuminants do; etc.
Second:  Monitor profile files can and occasionally do get corrupted.
I validate the calibration of my monitors practically on a daily basis.
If you don't have an accurately profiled monitor at all times, your work is wasted.
    Magooi wrote:
But it's a whole science to calibrate the monitor without a hardware calibration kit. I had a look at SuperCal as you suggested, but I am afraid it's gona be too complicated for me as I think it's hard enough to calibrate with the Apple calibration tool.
Even the cheapest hardware calibrator puck will give you superior results than any eyeball calibrator.  That said, SuperCal is a tad better than Apple's  built-in eyeball calibrator, though nowhere as good as a hardware calibrators.
Personally, I detest laptop screens and categorically do not consider a MacBook Pro a suitable machine for serious color work.  For this reason, I cannot in good conscience insist on your buying a hardware calibrator.
Laptop screens can be nearly impossible to calibrate accurately.
    Magooi wrote:
I have made a new screen shot with my results so far. Upper left is Photoshop original. To the right the SFW and lower left the preview result. The SFW result still don't give me the colors I want, but as I said: closer then before.
Screen shots from an uncalibrated or inaccurately calibrated monitor are worthless, always.  They do not help at all, especially when they are partial snippets that don't show the whole picture.
This time around they are even worse, as I cannot see whether you rectified your Preview setting in the Save For web dialog box to "Use Document Profile", as I told you earlier:
You have to start by changing that setting in the Save For Web dialog box to "Use Document Profile".
Is your original document in a device independent color space (i.e. was your working colorspace set to such a device-independent color space like Adobe RGB or sRGB when you created the original) and is it properly tagged (does it have such a device independent profile embedded)?  If the answer to any of that is no, all your work is wasted.
If your working space is set to your Monitor Profile, then your work is a useless mess.  If the original is in your Monitor Profile, it's no good either.  Same goes for the Preview setting in the Save For Web dialog box, if it's set to Monitor Profile, it's useless.
If you view any untagged image (any image without a device-independent profile embedded) in any Apple application, be aware that any such Apple application, From the Finder, through Preview, Aperture and iPhoto to Safari, will throw your monitor profile at your image (assuming it's really in your Monitor Profile) and it will display your image in the wrong colors, as all Apple applications stupidly assume that all untagged images were created by some fool who didn't know better.
    Magooi wrote:
But now my main questions is:
Why the Original in the Photoshop SFW don't look like the original? And then why the Optimized in the SFW also don't look like the the preview? (Specially look at he shadows of the palm tree that shows in the Optimized but not in the preview)
I have no idea what all your other color settings throughout the whole application and in the Save For Web box are, what else may be messed up on your machine, or how badly inaccurate your monitor profile is.  Again, your  screenshot is not helpful and never will be—unless you had an accurately profiled monitor, which you will never be sure you have on your laptop, ever.
    Magooi wrote:
And again, should I invest in SuperCal? It seems also to be very old.
SuperCal is better than Apple's calibrator, regardless of whatever its age may be at this point.  Last time I checked, SuperCal was free.  If they want to charge for it now, don't buy it.  It's not worth it for a laptop screen.
On a side note, if you think SuperCal is "too complicated" for you, I doubt you're ready for Photoshop anyway, even with a better machine.  Sorry, no offense meant, but it wouldn't be fair to you if I didn't tell you exactly how I feel.

  • How do I find images in LR 2.4 (imported from CS4 Bridge) that have color labels already assigned In CS4 Bridge? I have set both Bridge and LR color labels text to match (eg Green for green, etc).

How do you find images in LR 2.4 that have been imported from CS4 Bridge and have been assigned a color label in Bridge?  I have set both LR 2.4 and my CS4 Bridge to match the text for each color to be the same (eg. Green for green, etc), and the filter search in LR 2.4 shows that a label has been assigned, but I am unable to identify and locate the specific images in LR 2.4 that have had a color label assigned from CS4 Bridge.  I have tried to search via attribute, metadata, text, etc...Is it necessary to re-assign color labels all over again, image by image, in LR 2.4, or is there a way to automatically have the color labels assigned in CS4 Bridge be assigned and searchable to the images after they have been imported into the LR 2.4 catalogue from the Bridge program?

    JohnM.
I closed both programs and re-imported photos and re-tried the action of having LR  read the XMP metadata from the CS4 files, and it seems to work now just fine...don't know why now and not before, but thanks much. Is there a way to have LR do this automatically upon import of images from CS4?  I tried to do this with an import metadata preset, but no luck.  It seems as if I can only do this once the images have already been imported into LR, and then to have to have LR read the metadata from the CS4 Bridge files.  thanks gain.

  • EPDF files failing to read on ADE reading software when they have Sidebar color graphics and text, how do we fix problem?

We have 2 different InDesign files not reading properly in ADE reader. Both files have sidebar color graphics and text in them. The one original file's EPDF was showing blank pages for all the page with the sidebars in it when opened in ADE (they are DRM wrapped). Pages that did not have the sidebar showed up fine. Our ebook distributor is telling us that we have to rasterize the file. We are working in InDesign 6 with Adobe Acrobat X Pro. We made JPEGS of each page and reimported into an InDesign file and exported to PDF and our ADE reader then showed the sidebar pages. The file is pretty large though and I have a full length book that has the same problem. What is the problem with our sidebars and what are better solutions than JPEGS for each page? Thanks.

I will give that a try, thank you.

i have on my ipad2 and re-download it - but I can't afford to loose the presentation that I currently have ....??
Are you using Keynote on an iPad?
If so you posted in the wrong forum, this is the Keynote Mac discussion and it is a different application. I dont know how the iPad works at all, so I cant help you, post in the Keynote iOS discussion.
If you are using a Mac, the colours palette is accesed by clicking on the colour well (arrowed) and then selecting a colour chip or changing the color in the colour wheel.

Photoshop CS4 - When I pullled up a file, JPEG logo someone sent to me, the screen has cross thin green lines over it. What is that? How do I remove it?

JPEG files are not layered files they are just image files so the green lines are a part of that file.
Usually cross lines are added to prevent anyone from using the file without proper rights, its a way of safeguarding the artwork.
You have to ask the owner of the file to remove the lines for you.
    hope this helps

    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated?
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by keeping command-alt-shift pressed on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html
Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)
If 3rd party plug-ins are installed try disabling them to verify if one of those may be responsible for the problem.
Does turning off OpenGL in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

my photos are not printing right with adobe manages color but works when i use printer manages color. never had any issues untill a week ago.

We use CS6, yes we calibrate using x-rite. I have always had adobe manage colors when printing. This problem just occurred, all my settings are the same as they have been for years. The only thing we did lately is do an update to CS6. We thought it might be our printer but when we use the printer manages color it works fine, The problem with adobe manages color is it is not blending the light highlights like on top of the cheeks with the colors around the cheeks  and its putting a faint red between the two it just does not have a smooth transition. I printed a photo that I had printed 4 months ago with no issue, and this time it had the issue that I am dealing with now. Somehow the photo shop manages color is not getting the right info to my printer.
    I set paper type
    set quality

  • Importing a .psd flat or layered gives different colors in InDesign

I have an RGB .psd file, with sRGB profile. When it's Placed in InDesign, the colors look like expected.
When in Photoshop the Background layer is double clicked (to make it a layer), and the file is saved without any changes,
the colors in InDesign look dull (like if there's some kind of CMYK-simulation going on).
This happens with all other images on the page where it is Placed.
On other pages, the flat file still looks bright and RGB-ish, but as soon as a layered file is added, the colors change.
As soon as I delete the layered image, the colors jump back to bright. It happens in Print, Web and Digital Publishing modes.
I don't want all this! (I use InDesign to make an onscreen presentation, and I like the look of the RGB-images, which are Cinema 4D renders, but I need some layering as well)
    Any ideas on this?
    Thanks!

Well, it is a document setting. When there is transparency on the page, ID switches to what is essentially overprint preview mode to show you more accurately what is going to happen to your output. Transparency flattening is handled per spread, so any transparent object affects everything on the spread.
