CS4: Why can I only print JPEGS?

I have just installed an Epson 7900 printer, but I cannot get a printer dialogue (File > Print >) to come up with a PSD or TIFF opened in CS4. Oddly, it only opens with a JPEG! With a PSD or TIFF I get the message "To perform printer-related functions like page setup or printing a document you must first install a printer."
An Epson tech told me I would likely have to reinstall Photoshop. This is the first attempt to print anything from my relatively new PS CS4 software. Note: I was able to run a test print from Lightroom 2.0. CS4 also apparently fails to find my HP LaserJet and an HP all-in-one inkjet during these times.
What could I possibly be doing wrong??
PS CS4
Vista 64
8GB ram on new quad core computer
Epson 7900 via ethernet cable
Thanks,
Jake

Using HP products!
No, seriously, are you sure you have 64-bit drivers for your printer?
They are not available for all printers. Visit the HP web site and check for the latest 64-bit drivers.
Without them you may be running generic Vista drivers which are limited in function.
Otherwise, remove the printersrom the printer panel and re-install. If that doesn't help you can try restting your PS preferences in accordance with the FAQ.)

  • Why can i only print a .pdf as a "landscape"?

This seems to be the problem with just this one .pdf document: others seem to behave. To wit, regardless that Adobe Reader's Print Setup is configured either for Landscape or Portrait, and regardless of whether my Brother laser printer is configured for Portrait or Landscape, the .pdf will print as Landscape. Any thoughts on this?

Don't know. What happens when you try? Can you open the document in Preview and print from there? Can you print from other applications?

  • Deskjet 3070A - Why can't I print only black ink?! (Wastes so much ink/money!)

Hello. I have already posted this in another forum and the conclusion was to post it again here. The full post and replies are here. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Deskjet-3070A-Why-can-t-I-print-on... (will open in new window)
Basically, printing in black only seems to use almost as much color ink, forcing me to buy ALL the cartridges when I need only black. I understand that some color ink is used to keep the heads clean, but seems that quite a lot is used. I print "black only" but maybe Im not doing something right in the print setup or maybe this is a known issue. In any event, it is way too expensive to buy all cartridges and will have to scrap this printer if I cant fix it. Hope there is a solution.
    Best,
    R

    Hi rdbot,
To setup black ink only I would recommend the following:
    Open TextEdit.
    Click on File, then Print.
    Select the printer.
Then next to presets, select Show Presets (it will be in a drop-down menu).
Look for Color/Quality and select it.
Then you can find options for black and white only.
You can see this guide, OS X Yosemite: Save your print settings to use later, as an example.
I noticed that there is not any full feature software and drivers for this printer for Mac OS X. So you will need to use the built-in driver through Apple. I would make sure all your Apple updates have been completed. Update OS X and App Store apps on your Mac.
If that still does not work, I would also recommend, resetting the print system, and then verify and repair disk permissions.
If you need to download the driver manually, you can find it at this website, HP Printer Drivers v3.0 for OS X.
Hope this clears things up for you, and have a wonderful day!

  • Why can't I print from my ipad?

I've had my iPad for almost a year now and I like it a lot. It looks very good, it performs very well even though I'm far from reaching my goal of only taking my ipad to school, nothing else.
One important reason why this won't be the case for quite a while still is that I can't print from the iPad.
Let me explain. I make quite a number of worksheets. Being a teacher this is one of the things you do so that the students have something to write on and do exercises. Over the years there have been many of these and my initial thought was to put them all on the iPad and print them when needed. But imagine my surprise when I found out that printing from an iPad seems to be near impossible.
Other colleagues of mine got themselves cheap EEPCs and they work fine. They can access the local printer easily printing whatever they wish. But I can't do that! Unless my school buys a new Air-thingy printer from HP I just won't print there! And that just *****.
I've bought a sleek and expensive machine that is so sophisticated - that I can't use it the way I want to. And that isn't even ******** about the file system that seems to be equally messed up.
My question is, why can't I print from the iPad? Printing had been announced many times before the launch of iOS 4 and then, all of a sudden, nothing more. How can this be? Why do I have to buy additional software - which is not really cheap and far from certain to work at all - just to be able to print a few pages?
Please help me understand this, as I see it, major flaw of the iPad and iOS 5.

    Thanks guys,
I seem to have understood by now.
    To sum it up:
    - I can print with the iPad directly if the printer is Airprint compatible.
    - I can print via a number of more or less working apps.
I've downloaded some HP software for my iPad and even seem to be able to access it from some other apps, that is except Apples Pages app. Sigh! So whenever I have to make changes in my documents, I still can't print.
GoodReader on the other hand lets me send my documents to the HP app, but the app/HP won't let me print microsoft docs unless I register and send my documents over to HP where the printing prep is being made, then they send it back to me/my printer. Anyway GoodReader blows my layout apart, so I must change it on the iPad, but when I do …
    It's a big catch.
You must realize that printing really isn't that comfortable and that as a spoiled old Mac user I might be excused for wishing something more workable.
The truth seems to be that I've got to carry all those docs on a USB-stick, move them over to the Windows-machine at our school and print from there - which is what I do on a daily basis already.
All those workarounds that may or may not work (check out user comments on those printing apps!) are so annoying that my overall question remains pretty much the same.
But I could also rephrase the question: Why can't I print from the so-called best tablet office app even if I am equipped with all the apps I apparently need?
Please understand that this is not Apple-bashing in any way. This is a real problem for me in my everyday life. I won't be persuading my school to buy AirPrint printers just because of my little problem and I honestly don't want to spend more money on printing apps that seem never to even have gone through beta testing.
Still, thanks for you efforts. I guess I'll just have to wait for Microsoft Office for iPad to get that big problem solved.

  • Why can I not print to my HP CM1415fnw from my Mac, but I can from my PC?

Why can't I print from my Mac 10.6.8 to my newly purchased HP CM1415fnw (supposedly air print enabled) but I can print to it from my PC?  I thought mac's we're supposed to be easier and this printer is not discoverable wirelessly on my mac or iPad/iPhone/Ipod, but it is from my PC?  I can only print from the mac/iPad/iPhone/iPod to this printer IF the wired cable is installed.  Seems like HP has the problem, but the mac can't even pull up the printer's web page unless there is a wired ethernet connection.  Yes, it is working just fine wirelessly with my PC's on the network.

Go to the Apple contact page and the first section should say something like "To purchase by phone, please call..."
Call this number and order a Snow Leopard DVD.

replace the ?? with your country's address code, e.g. http://www.apple.com/uk/contact/
or if you are from America it's simply http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • Why can I not print all pages in a multi-page document?

Why can I not print all pages in a multi-page document?

We are using Adobe Acrobat Reader, version 11.0. It's on a relatively new laptop (Windows 8) and accessing the internet through Mozilla. The printer is an HP Officejet. When I open a multi-page Adobe document and try to print all pages, I only get 1-2, have to then say print page 3, then say print page 4, etc. We use Adobe on our other laptop and it prints all pages of all Adobe documents and we have never had a problem and he accesses documents on the internet also through Mozilla.

  • Why can't I print to scale?

Adobe reader. It doesn't let you print on the scale you want.
I'm not talking about that stupid 'print to fit the page' option, which does nothing for most cases. Why can't I print with scale that I want? I'm not asking anyone how I can do it. I've read I can do it through photoshop or changing the printing paper size. Why doesn't the adobe reader have that function at all? It's like the most basic function of a paper reader. IMO, the adobe reader exists so that people can share stuff to 'print'.
Don't adobe care about the community feedback, or interface? Do they think we're too dumb to figure out scaling so they have to do it for us? What is it? This is probably why Apple is trying to exclude adobe.
Please reply if you knows why, or if you just want to rant with me.

    Terry,
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
The printing system in OS X is CUPS. To be able to use the network print protocols, you need driver(s) that work with CUPS. Not only does Canon not provide CUPS drivers, but they don't cooperate with the open source community so that Gimp-Print (free CUPS drivers), for example, could support your model. The only CUPS driver (I know of) for your model is available for purchase from www.printfab.net.

  • Why can't I print from my iPad using airport express

Why can't I print from my iPad using airport express?

Is the printer connected to the USB port on the AirPort Express?
If yes, Apple does not support printing from the iPad in this manner. Try another App like Printopia which should allow the iPad to print. There is a free trial, so you will know in a few minutes whether this will work.
Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
Is the printer connected to the AirPort Express using wireless only?
If yes, you must have an AirPrint compatible printer to be able to print directly from the iPad. See if your model is AirPrint compatible in this Apple document:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If your printer model appears, the printer may need a firmware update to enable the AirPrint feature. Contact the support folks at your printer manufacturer.
If the printer does not appear, try Printopia as above.

  • Why can't I print from my 4s to my HP envy. I used to work and it still works from my air book?

why can't I print from my 4s to my HP envy. I used to work and it still works from my air book?

    Morning thomas b olsen
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
    How to print in iOS
You can print from the Apple applications, such as Mail, Safari, Photos, Camera, Maps, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Filemaker Go, and so on. Apps available from the App Store may also offer this feature.
    To print, follow these steps:
    Tap the action icon .
    Tap the Print button.
Select the appropriate settings, and then tap Print.
Important: If you are printing for the first time, or if the previously selected printer is not available, you will need to select a printer before step 3.
Note: AirPrint displays only the essential printer options that apply to the document or image being printed. Details such as media type, page size, and orientation are automatically determined at print time.
    Hope this helps,
    Mario
