CS4 Windows 7 64-bit.  InDesign won't run.

Error message: "missing files, please reinstall".  On reinstall, setup hangs at "preparing to install".  How do I get this app loaded and running?

Can't recreate the screen shot - I uninstalled InDesign in order to reinstall.  During the reinstall process for CS4 (only installing the InDesign app) it starts the process
and the first screen displays "Preparing to Install..." - but nothing happens -- I waited for over 10 minutes (twice) and no progress was made.

Not using Boot Camp, but you should be able to using virtualization software such as Parallels to run Windows concurrently with OS X.

  • 64 Bit CS5 Won't run after I unchecked the 'C' Scratch Drive....

The problem started when I went into the 64 bit version of CS5;  edit : preferences : performance and in the scratch drive options I unchecked the ‘C’ drive option. (I know.... doesn't make sense to do that)  CS5 runs from the C drive BTW.  I then closed the program and on restart it would not work. When trying to open CS5 64 bit version I get an Adobe Photoshop CS5 message that states: “Could not open a scratch file because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privleges.  Use the ‘Properties’ command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file. When I click on the OK button I get a second message that says, “Could not initialize Photoshop because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privledges.  Use the ‘Properties’ command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file. Un install and install takes me to the same problem.  For what it’s worth the 32 bit version of CS5 runs fine. This is probably an easy fix for an expert but alas... that is not me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Richard on the Eastern Shore of Virginia

The root cause is likely a permissions issue.  You need to make sure you have Full Control privileges to the root folder of each of the hard drives you have told Photoshop to use, as well as to the folder identified on your system by the TEMP environment variable.
Also, you may want to just turn off Windows UAC entirely, though you should research UAC and fully understand what it does and what the additional risks are before making the decision to do this.
A quick fix for you to get you working again might be to press and hold the Control and Alt keys immediately after starting Photoshop from its icon or menu item.  If you're quick enough, it will pop up a dialog allowing you to re-specify the scratch disks you had before when it worked.

  • Windows 7 64-bit update won't run after hard drive replacement HP G62-144DX

Replaced hard drive, ran recovery discs, everything OK except that windows 7 64-bit would not update. Services showed windows update to be running, but update gave error message: service not started. Reinstalled old hard drive which before all tests had showed drive to be defective and tried again, this time all ran Ok and windows update ran. This time all tests showed the orginal hard drive to be OK.

    Hello jzerener,
Is there a question in here somewhere?  I'm happy everything is working again, but I certainly can't explain why you encountered these results as you updated.
    Thank you for sharing.

  • FB4: Just migrated to Windows 7 and apps won't run from HTML

I've got a new laptop with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I've installed FB4 and moved all my projects over to it. When I try to run an app from inside FB4 (using either Firefox or IE8), and it loads the HTML file, nothing happens. If I change the URL to point to the SWF file instead, hey presto it works.... I presume I need to change a security setting somewhere, but what and where?
    Thanks

I wonder--what would happen if you launched FB4 as an administrator?  Right click on the icon and say "Run as administrator."
Does it publish the file correctly when running as administrator?

  • HELP! I downloaded iTunes 10.6 for Windows Vista, and it won't run.

A few months ago I needed to update my iPhone, and before doing so I was prompted to update my iTunes software to the new 10.6. I downloaded the new iTunes, and since then I have not been able to open iTunes. I double click on the icon on my desktop, and a little wheely thing pops up like it is loading and then nothing else happens.
I have Windows Vista Home Basic, 32-bit OS
I have tried uninstalling iTunes and all the other applications that go along with it and downloading iTunes all over again. And when I run iTunes in safemode it works fine, except I can't plug in my phone in safemode.
    Please help!

everytime I try to open it, all my computer does is pretend like it's loading but then does nothing.
Can you check something for me please?
Restart your PC. after the PC restarts, bring up your Task manager, and go to the "Processes" tab. Click "Image name" to sort the processes alphabetically.
    Now try to launch iTunes.
Does an itunes.exe process appear? If so, does it vanish after a second or so, or does it persist in the Processes tab (even though iTunes itself never shows up)?

  • Runing windows 8 and Firefox won't run java script.

I have a new Dell running windows 8. it seems Firefox won't operate with Java script. what suggestions do you have?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

  • Indesign won't run! help!

I have a macbook and have recently installed cs5 suite. Everything runs perfectly fine execpt indesign.  I have no idea what the problem is. I can open it but as soon as I try to use it it freezes and then gives me the spiney wheel of death and I have to force quit. Can anybody help meeee?!

In a January thread I should have said explicitly, instead of merely implying, that there is almost no penalty for disabling SING by removing its plug-in.  Adobe apparently has abandoned the technology after CS4, presumably because its use was limited and not worth the complications it caused.  I assume the plug-in continues in CS5 only for backwards compatibility.  I'd guess rather few ID files actually use SING glyphlets.  The initial plan was to provide a means for making custom characters for InDesign's East Asian versions ("gaiji" means "outside [of fonts] character" in Japanese).  Those of us who use CJK occasionally need custom characters and wish SING worked properly, but we managed without it before SING came along.

  • After Effects Windows 64 bit file won't open on Mac!

I have CC on a Windows 7 (64 bit) system and on a MAC OSX Snow Leopard, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Version 10.6.8 and when attempting to open a Windows created After Effects file on the MAC got the "Can't open 64 bit version 12.2 file on this Mac" message. What to I have to do to make them compatible? I wasn't told this when I signed up!

Your answer is either to upgrade your Mac's OS or to save the CC file as a CS6 file. (Which is possible according to this list.)

  • Installed CS3 with windows vista bit AE won't open.

When my old faithful computer motherboard fried, I had to get a new computer with Windows Vista Home Premium.
I had CS3 loaded and working without a glich on my old XP computer.
I've loaded the whole CS3 suite, but when I open After Effects nothing happens. Using Window's Task Manager, under "Applications" After Effects doesn't show up as a running but under "Processes" the file "AfterFX.exe *32" is listed as running.
I've also tried uninstalling CS3 and reinstalling it in the directory "Program Files" rather than in the directory "Program Files (x86)" and nothing changed.
I've tried to opening all the other programs in CS3 with the similar results. Nothing opens, but their .exe files are listed under Task Managers "Processes".
I'm using this as a vol lic product, so I'm not sure how much tech support I can get.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

I'm sorry it didn't work. I probably don't have an answer for you since I'm not an expert or anything.
One thing I thought was weird was that the software version on my computer for the motherboard was version 6.xx (whatever) and the software I downloaded from the HP web was version 5.xx (whatever). It made it work though..
I think the update would be on the HP site, not the MSI site. Go to hp.com, downloads, and put in the name of your computer. Download/install whatever motherboard software they have. If that doesn't work, go to the adobe website and search for the document kb402213 and work through that. It's what the person you give Adobe $40 to help you is going to do.
    Good luck. Hopefully this helps.

  • HT1926 I've successfully updated itunes and quicktime on windows XP but itunes won't run properly, the video tutorial loses audio after about 1-2 minutes and when I plug in my iphone 4s to sync the whole thing freezes, any ideas?

    Hi everyone,
was prompted to upgrade itunes on my PC and also upgrade the software on my iphone 4s.Went through as usual but took 3 goes to get a successful upgrade of itunes on the PC. Then was prompted to update quick time, this was done successfully.
Thought I'd look at the tutorial video for itunes - the sound went off 11/2 minutes into it, then I couldn't stop it. I had a quick look around itunes and decided to sync my phone. The program recognised the phone then everything froze. Windows message for a non responding program came up and had to pull out of the program. So far after several hours I have not been able to get beyond stage 2 of 7 of syncing the phone; it keeps freezing up at different stages.
Any ideas?? I haven't had this kind of trouble before with any other version of itunes.
    Cheers

Still nothing? Wow... maybe the quality of this discussion board really has gone down. Dissappointed.

  • My Windows 64 bit system won't recognize my ipod/itunes...

I am using Windows 7... My brother and I also share the same computer, and our music libraries are quite different.  I do not know if that has anything to do with it or not.  I've tried removing the software and reinstalling it, but it doesn't always work.
WOW, the program has been removed from my PC... and while I was typing this, the itunes sync page popped up!  I don't know what is happening, I just want to listen to music.
    Help me please.

  • After installing ITunes 64 bit in my Windows 8 laptop, it won't launch

I just upgraded to Itunes 64 bit in my Windows 8 64 bit laptop. I've downloaded and installed it but it's not working. I've uninstalled and installed again and again, still ITunes 64 bit won't launch. Help!

Windows 8 or Windows RT? iTunes won't run on Windows RT. It should run on Windows 8. Use the appropriate installer from an account with administrator privileges.
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • Agentry 6.0.32 client: does it work on Windows 64-bit?

Hi Folks - We use Work Manager 5.3 with Agentry 6.0.32 server and client.  We generally use Panasonic Toughbook mobile devices that are 32-bit Windows 7.  But recently a couple of 64-bit PCs have been added.
Does anyone know if the 6.0.32 Agentry win32 client works on Windows 64-bit?  If so are any additional steps needed to make it work?
We have been using the client install found in this zipfile from SAP SMP:  51046915_1.zip
    Best Regards - Jeff

    Jeff,
The Agentry 6.0.x clients run just fine on Windows 64-bit.  I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit and have used all the Windows clients (Agentry 6.0.x, SMP 2.3/Agentry 6.1 win32 and WPF and SMP 3.0 Win32 and WPF clients) on my laptop without any issues.
No additional steps are needed to get this to work.

Pagemaker is ancient, obsolete and unsupported. It was discontinued over 10 years ago. (Though why it is still sold is a mystery.)
If you want to run PageMaker, your best bet is to use a Win2K or WinXP PC.
Otherwise move to Indesign or look at Serif's PagePlus or Scribus.
