CS4 with Suitcase Fusion

Considering purchasing CS4. Am using OSX 10.4.1 with Suitcase Fusion 12.1.6.
Any font issues with CS4 (especially InDesign & Illustrator).

The only issue I am aware of is how thoroughly crappy Suitcase has been for years. The new version of Fusion might be non-crappy, but I'd bet against that. My biggest issue with SF lately is constant conflict errors when I activate Helvetica Neue T1, since the dfont version is installed in the OS. I hope to convince the keepers of the purse to upgrade out fonts to OTF, which will probably solve the problem.
If you can, I suggest using Linotype Font Explorer. Its' free, much easier to use than Suitcase, has excellent preview features, and the auto-activation is tops.

  • Fonts not available in IDCC2014, with Suitcase Fusion 5 or 6

I have opened and worked a InDesign CC2014 doc. Everything is fine. The next day I attempt to open the doc again with the same fonts installed and they come up missing. I try several Macs, (different OSs), different versions of Suitcase Fusion including the latest and I get the same issue. Cleared font cache, restarted, etc to no avail. Any ideas? This has happened over the years occasionally, and has seemed to happen recently on a few occasions.
    Thanks

That's a large part of the problem. You have more than one font manager on your Mac. If you're not using Font Book, delete it. Then you need to reset its orphaned database so OS X stops trying to control which fonts are, or aren't active according to that data.
To remove Font Book from the hard drive, follow these steps:
    1) Open Font Book, and then its preferences. Uncheck the box for "Alert me if system fonts change". Close the preferences and shut down Font Book. Put the Font Book application in the trash and delete it.
    2) Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding it until OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally.
This will reset Font Book's database and clear the cache files in your user account. The main goal in this step is to remove the orphaned Font Book database from the hard drive. With the Font Book application no longer on the hard drive, a new one cannot be created. Which is what we want.
    3) Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.

  • Want to provide link to FMCore issue with Suitcase Fusion

For those having issues with FMCore not starting after a crash on a MacBookPro, causing your Suitcase Fusion to stop working (and generally all your software after that), here is a link to the instructions.
For me, I've been able to get both the section of answer to work, and then today I had to go to the second set and it worked. Thankfully my computer doesn't crash much, but it is frustrating to spend 40mins of valuable time trying to fix it. Figured I might as well post the link here.

After upgrading Extensis Suitcase Fusion 5 from 16.0.2 to 16.0.4, InDesign CC (latest version) crashes just after launch.
It seems that it comes from the Suicase font activation plugin.
Does anyone have the same trouble? Or anyone have the same configuration without trouble?

    I had same problem.

  • Opening a legacy file in CC2014, the fonts in the file (which are loaded and accessible with Suitcase Fusion 6), won't display. I get the [Jensen text] font name indicating a missing font file. YET, when I make a new file, the fonts are available. Any ide

Okay, that was a long title. Sorry about that.
Longer version now. The font Janson Text is an old Type 1 Postscript font. If I make a new document in InDesign CC2014, this font is completely available to me. HOWEVER, if I open a legacy file that uses this same font, it shows up with the usual pink highlighting.
I know the font is available to InDesign, because I made a new test document and set type with it.
If I try using the Type > Find Font.. option to replace the 'missing' typefaces, InDesign won't let me, not recognizing the font that I just used in the new test document.
I just tried exporting the defective file as an IDML file, then opening the IDML file. The font is now working properly.
This is a real problem, as the file I'm trying to open is a book that we need to reprint. I now have to go through it page by page to see if any linebreaks have changed.
    WHAT CAUSES THIS, please?

There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

  • Imac cs4 suitcase fusion 2

    Hello everybody,
I had just recive my new computeur and had connect it to my old one to make an easy install.
    The new one:
imac 3,4 GHz Intel core i7 mac os x 10.8.5
    The old one:
MacBook pro 2,8 GHz Intel core 2 duo mac os x 10.6.8
The fact is that some of my MasterCS4 is not working on the new one (Indesign, Dreamwever, Contribute, Encore, Extension Manager, Fireworks, Onlocation)
In the case of indesign, when I take off SING.InDesignPlugin, I can open Indesign but it's not any more avalable in french dictionnary.
Maybe it's a probleme with Suitcase Fusion 2
What will happen if I try to upgrade in OSX Mavericks?
I really'd rather don't have to reinstall the CS4. What is the best?
Thanks for your help and sorry for my so bad english.

This site tests older software for compatibility of older programs with newer Mac OS versions:
    http://roaringapps.com/app/adobe-cs4
According to that, it is OK.
However, Adobe uses copy protection so you cannot drag and drop. You should consult the Adobe help pages first, but I'm fairly certain you have to deauthorize CS on the old computer and the use the disks to install on the new one or it won't work.

  • Suitcase Fusion won't open after installing the 10.5.8 update - Solution

This is a bit of an open and shut post as I've found the solution, but it's a bit obscure so thought I'd stick it up here in case anyone else had this problem.
After installing the 10.5.8 update, Suitcase Fusion (am using v12.1.7) would bounce once in the dock and then abort. I called Applecare (who had surprisingly not heard of this Application) and they suggested moving the com.extensis.suitcase.plist preferences file to the desktop and restarting my Mac (essentially resetting Suitcase Fusion).
    No joy.
I didn't feel that re-installing Suitcase Fusion was going to do any good, so said thank you and went back to scouring Google …and lo, the solution was there all along…
The problem had something to do with the *Bonjour Name* of my Mac. Apparently, if you have any special characters in your *Computer Name* or if it exceeds 20 characters, then this causes a problem with the *Bonjour Name* and then consequently with Suitcase Fusion …simples.
See? …told you it was obscure.
    Solution:
    1. Open *System Preferences > Sharing*
    2. Change the *Computer Name* to something shorter with no spaces or special characters, something like MyName-MacBookPro
(NB. If you're not logged in as an Admin user, you'll need to click the lock and enter a password first)
    3. Click Edit… to ensure that the .local name is the same
    4. Close *System Preferences* and restart your Mac
And Bob's your Uncle, that should do the trick :o)

That may be, but I didn't find it without considerable digging. And neither Applecare nor Extensis had heard of the problem/solution.
Just thought it would be helpful, that's all.

  • Suitcase Fusion/Photoshop Font Issue

I have Photoshop CS5.5 with Suitcase Fusion 15.0.5. When I use any kind of typeface in a Photoshop file it appears jagged. When I rasterized the type, the edges are still jagged. It does display the correct font and not defaulting to a generic one. It is just that the curved edges are bad.
I am to figure out if this is a Photoshop or Suitcase issue. I have reinstalled the suitcase plugin, no change. Reset Photoshop to it's defaults. My other apps (e.g. Adobe, Apple and Microsoft), the fonts look great.

What's the ppi resolution of your files?  What type of file format?
Once rasterized, text in Photoshop is no longer vector.  Unless you have a very high ppi resolution, text is bound to appear jagged.
Photoshop is not the ideal application for text.

  • Quark 6 and suitcase fusion

Hi, i'm sorry this isn't necessarily the right place for this but since there are plenty mac users here im sure someone can help!
At work we have just upgraded our kit from G4's running os9 to G5's running tiger, quark and suitcase fusion. We are having major problems, but cant find any other detail about it. Suitcase will not auto activate fonts when opening Quark files off an Xserve. Quark just freezes (application not responding) for ages. Switch the auto- activation off or quit suitcase fusion and the quark file opens fine - anyone use these programmes and have experienced these problems and over come them? Its kinda pointless buying 10 copies of suitcase for us if it doesn't bloomin work?!? But then again if it doesn't work how do they get away with selling it - specifically says it auto activates fonts in Quark 6). Some other people must have experience ofthis - hopefully.
Heres hoping as its really causign me stress at work as im the guy who pushed for new kit/software saying it would be miles better and so far it has been nothing but problems!!! cheers

This is the answer I got from Extensis when I had similar problems a few months ago:
Quark 6.1 does not work with Suitcase Fusion. Please only use Quark 6.5. It is a free download from Quark's website.
If that doesn't help, contact Extensis' customer service.

  • AI/CS4 crashes on Start-up - Suitcase Fusion 3 Issue?

I installed Suitcase Fusion 3 the other day.  Now Illustrator crashes on startup.  Could it be part of the SF3 auto-activation?  It wouldn't be the first time it caused a problem, but I un-clicked the "Illustrator CS4" button, and it still crashes.
I did contact Extensis, and Isent them a System Profile Report.  Their guy says he "sees some strange things" in it, and asked about classic and if I changed the default install location for AI CS4.
    Any help will be appreciated!

I just wrote something in another thread here concerning Fusion and Font Book. They don't play nice with each other.
This should have came with your Fusion3 Install, but check out page 8 of this PDF:
    http://doc.us.extensis.com/SuitcaseFusion3-User-Guide-Mac.pdf
On my work station, after setting up Font Book's preferences, I "disable" the program by making it a .zip archive so that it does not launch.
Concerning your .ai preferences, you have to go to the actual folder in your "Library" and delete the preferences. Illustrator will recreate this file once you launch it again.
And you can also go to the plug-ins folder within the illustrator folder to remove the Fusion3 plug-in.

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.

  • Anyone having issues with InDesign (CS5) and Suitcase Fusion 3 (Mac)?

I've run into a problem that I think might be caused by Suitcase Fusion 3 [Version 14.2.0 (319)], but I'm wondering if anyone here is having any issues with InDesign and Suitcase Fusion like I am?
Just about every time I launch an InDesign document or an Illustrator document (don't seem to have the issue in Photoshop, strangely enough) it pretty much crashes to the point where it's a force quit. Before anyone asks the question, this is what I've done - I've reformatted my hard disk (even writing 0s!), done a clean install of Lion (10.7.3), clean install of Creative Suite 5 (and updates), clean install of Suitcase (and updates)...you get the idea. I'm still ending up with crashing just about every time I open a document in these two apps.
As an experiment I downloaded a (fully functioning) trial version of FontAgent Pro (which I didn't like, btw) and didn't encounter any crashing at all in either application.
I've opened a ticket with Adobe to see if they have any details as to whether this is a known conflict or whatever (though I don't hold much hope for getting help from them since it's looking more like a Suitcase issue than a Creative Suite one).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to try and resolve this?
I'm in the middle of producing two magazines and I really really don't need this! Lol

From the lovely people at Extensis tech support -
Thanks for the info. As you said, if this is happening when you have only manually activated fonts, then the auto-activation isn't coming into play which does lead me to think it is related to the plug-in generally and maybe the sleep issue, which you say you definitely have. So I've added you to the sleep issue tracking.
If you find yourself coming back from putting the computer to sleep and the apps with Suitcase plugins have hung, do this:
    1)      Go to your spotlight and type in "activity"
    2)      Launch "Activity Monitor"
    3)      Highlight the name of the adobe/quark application that is hanging by clicking it.
    4)      Click the "Sample Process" button at the top of the screen.
    5)      Click the "Save" button.
    6)      Click the "Save" button again and save the file to your desktop.
    7)      This will generate a file such as " Sample of Adobe Illustrator CS5.txt"
    8)      Repeat this process with any other application that is hanging.
    9)      Highlight the "FMCore" process by clicking it.
    10)  Click the "Sample Process" button at the top of the screen.
    11)  Click the "Save" button.
    12)  Click the "Save" button again and save the file to your desktop.
    13)  This will generate a file named " Sample of FMCore.txt"
    14)  Place these files along with the ".Plugins.txt" files created earlier into a new folder called "Plugins"
    15)  Right click (control+click) to compress into a .zip file.
Please attach this zip in reply to this mail.
When we are sure of a fix, we'll get back to you. In the meantime here are some workarounds:
    Option 1:
    1)      Back up your font sets by dragging them to the desktop
    2)      Remove SF3 v14.2 by following the instructions here:
    http://www.extensis.com/en/support/kb_article.jsp?articleNumber=4020
    3)      Download and re-install Suitcase Fusion 3 (version 14.0.6) from:
    http://dl.extensis.com/downloads/ST/EN/M/SuitcaseFusion3-M-1406-EN.zip
    4)      Are there fonts and font sets in your old font vault you would like to recover?
    If NO :
    a)      Open SF3
    b)      Simply drag and drop your original fonts into the SF3 "Font Library". This will copy the fonts into a new font vault.
If YES : Restore your old fontvault from the backup the removal tool created
    a)      If you choose "Y" to KEEP your font vault earlier when you ran the removal script, on your desktop you will find a folder called "Extensis-Backup-today's date" that contains a backup of your previous suitcase fusion 3 fontvault.
    b)      Move your old font vault from the "Extensis-Backup-today's date" folder on your desktop into this folder:
    /Users/[your username]/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion/Suitcase Fusion.fontvault
    c)       Launch SF3 from your dock. you should now see all your old fonts and font sets.
    Option 2:
Remove our auto-activation plugins and activate your fonts manually in SF3 and/or add your adobe/quark apps to the SF3 > Preferences > General > Global Auto-Activation Options list. here's how:
    1)      In SF3: choose Suitcase Fusion 3 > Manage Plugins
    2)      Uncheck the boxes for adobe/quark apps; this will remove our auto-activation plugins
    3)      Choose SF3 > Preferences > General
    4)      Under "Global Auto-Activation Options", press the "+" button to add your adobe/quark apps
Please note that "global auto-activation" is less accurate than our plugin-based auto-activation. Double check your font usage in your design app to confirm the correct font was loaded after opening a document.

  • CS4- lost 1/2 of my fonts via Suitcase Fusion trial??? HELP

If ANYONE can please help me ... today I downloaded a trial version of Suitcase Fusion 3 to see waht is was like. I also uninstalled it today.
NOW, all of my Adobe programs are missing (not pulling up) my enitre fonts list ie: basics like Myriad Pro are missing from the drop down menu among many others, and previous deisgn documents are opening with errors saying:
"fonts or characters are not available or in a different format than originally specicifed". Then, when I DO open that document, I cannot even correctly place the original fonts—they are not available.
My Fonts do show in my Library (iMac OSX 10.5)
Is there any way to restore my fonts? It seems like they are not "talking" to my software programs (all of my software ...including Microsoft word /excel etc)
    Thank you,
    Chemol

There is a cache of fonts... I would try:
Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/526990
If that doesn't do it, try cleaning out ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 6.0/en_US/CompositeFont
