CS4 won't let me erase part of an adjustment layer

I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 and what I USED to be able to do with CS3, I can no longer do. Any suggestions are welcome.
I have a photo that needs a portion of the yellow desaturated. I created a duplicate layer, did a desat adjustment, selected the mask (on the saturation layer) and tried to erase. It will do nothing. It should erase (which would bring back my original layer's colors) everything except what I don't want fully saturated.
I have reset my tools, thinking that was the problem, but no luck. Anybody have any ideas??
Oh! And this also happens with ANY adjustment layer - curves, levels, etc. etc.

I agree that the Brush Tool is the logical choice to use. However, one can paint in with the Eraser Tool, by hitting the X key. I'll often have the Eraser Tool setup with, say the Block, and my Brush Tool setup with normal "Brush" characteristics, and go between them, hitting the X key to swap the Eraser from "erasing" to painting.
I believe that this is what happened to the OP, and X will swap the colors to give one the opposite effect.

Premier CS4 won't let me save or burn DVD

After finishing the project I tried burning it onto DVD via Encore. Somehow Encore crashed my computer and after re-start, although I could open the project in Priemier I can no longer save it or save as. It gives me the 'Unkown error has occured'. I tried re-installing Premier still nothing. I can open the project but can't save it thus can't burn it (even tried MPEG2 DVD). Has anyone had a simillar problem and came up with a sollution ?

I tried that but still can't save. Even created a blank 'new project' and still won't let me save.
It appears something gone corrupt in the application itself.
This is the message I get:
Project Save Error.
An unkown error occured while saving the project. Select 'Save As' from the File menu to
save the project to a new location.

I followed sombody elses advice on a different forum to re-start while holding a SHIFT key
to reset the cache.
I could save the project straight after but when I tried creating MPEG2 DVD it would give me
an error and the above would start all over again.

Disk Utility won't let me erase or change the partitions on my external USB hard drive. What should I do?

I can't use the 'erase' function in my disk utility program or set up different partitions with my external USB drive. As I am able to do this for another external hard drive, I assume the problem is not a software problem but connected to this specific USB drive. However, I wonder what other options do I have? Is there any software that can 'force' a complete deletion of everything of the USB drive?

That or another Mac OS X installation.

I'm giving my old PowerBook to a family member and want to erase the HD and reinstall 10.5.4 fresh. I opened Disk Utility and selected Erase and the drive bu the Erase... button is not available (transparent). How do I do this?

Flash CS4 Won't let me use the bone tool

I just got Flash CS4 and am working through the Classroom in
A book. I'm somewhat new to Flash and this may be something I'm
doing, but I don't think so. I've followed the instructions pretty
closely. I'm doing the crane animation using the graphics they
provided and for some reason I keep getting an error that says
"Cannot link bitmap objects". The bone tool has an X over it when I
roll over the bitmap arms. I even tried creating some blocks to
link, but the bone tool would do the same thing. I'm in the right
layer and it is NOT locked. What gives??

I figured out my mistake. I was dragging bitmaps onto the
stage and not the movie clip symbols.

When I try to erase my hard drive by using the disk utility, the format is in gray and won't let me erase. What do I do?

Ive got an iMac with bootcamp on it. Recently my computer has slowed down and I want to restore it to factory settings. The format says mac osx extended (journaled), but its in grey. Also, the security options and erase buttons are gray. The only button I am able to press is "Erase Free Space." I have a feeling that i might have to delete my bootcamp partition first. What do I do?

To erase the OSX on your harddisk you have to boot your Mac from the OSx Install DVD that came with your Mac.
You can't erase the OSx from which your Mac is booted.

Premiere Pro CS4 won't let me dump/Record to tape, HELP!

Hello, I just got a hold of Premiere Pro CS4 and I think its great. BUT when I try to dump/record my project to tape onto my SONY CamCorder DV all I get is a blue screen. The camcorder is controlled by Premiere and says it is going there but as I watch it being put to tape... all I see in the viewfinder is blue with a record red dot. And when I actually play back what I supposedly recorded all i see is blue. Can you help please. My SONY Camcorder is a DSR-trv 27E. Thanx

That "E" in the model number may indicate that your camera can play video out via firewire, but not record video in.
Many EU camera models have this restriction built-in so that the camera can't be used as a VCR. I think it's a tax issue, but since I live in the USA, I'm not qualified to say for sure.

Computer won't let me erase and reinstall mavericks

i have the latest update of mevericks and my mackbook pro just left warrantty, so it's whatever model that was new about 2 years ago. We paid for all the extra stuff.
the problem is that i woke up this morning and my laptop was left unpowered. it happens from time to time, so i plug it in and restart, and up pops the Disk Utility window. okay whatever. i guess there was a glitch or something, i don't know. I go to reinstall the OS X Mavericks, but it fails, saying that it can't repair it. I must erase it first. Okay, so i follow the instructions on "erase and reinstall"
except that i can't erase the OS X, all the options are greyed out. I can't seem to do anything about this, and my Apple Care conveniently ran out.
i've been into my local Apple Store about 3 times with complaints about my battery or computer being slow in the last year. I keep being shoo'd away.

That installer is most likely 10.6.0, if it's the Retail Installer. So it needs 10.6.6 and is telling that disk is too old.

This should clear up on its own and allow you to delete the account, however it can take 3-5 days before this happens.

Fireworks CS4 won't let me create a slideshow

I searched through dozens of posts in the forums but no one gives an actual answer to this question, they just point to tutorials that don't answer the question I have. The problem is when I try to input an export path into the slideshow options nothing gets chosen. It just remains blank. I have made new folders, I have chosen already made folders and I have chosen the desktop, but nothing will get chosen. Can someone please point me to the real answer to this? I have been searching for an hour and my work depends on this slideshow to work.

I had a similar experience after following a video tutorial I found online, but then found another
tut which mentioned you must Create a New Document before selecting Commands/Create Slideshow.
That worked for me!

Do you use your Vaio Update for updates, kingdom? If so, check in there to see if you're also up to date on your video card drivers and BIOS. (Your downloads page at Sony UK shows some updates for those there, so we'd better check on them too.)
