CS4 won't open DNG files
I've converted some Olympus RAW(ORF) files using DNG converter 6.7 that supports my camera. The files converted, the icons are in the folder, but if I try to open the file(s) all I get is "Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
You need to set the DNG preferences for compatibility to "Camera Raw 5.4 and later" for CS4 (I think).

Illustrator CS4 won't open any files since installing CS6
Every since I installed CS6, whenever I try to open files in Illustrator (all files, not just the new downsaved from CS6 files), the program goes into "Not Responding" and I can't do anything until I crash out. It also will not let me create new files.
I've tried deleting my Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings folder as I saw suggested in another discussion, but it did not help.
Since my CS6 trial is ending soon and I'm not sure about upgrading yet, I really need my CS4 to be functional.
I'm running WIndows Vista 64 bit. Never had any problems with Illustrator before this.
Any suggestions?Ok, so I uninstalled Illustrator CS4, ran the CS Cleaner Tool, which messed up all my other CS4 programs, reinstalled the whole CS4 Suite, and Illustrator CS4 STILL won't open files (or allow me to create new ones). I only have two days left on my CS6 trial and I'm not sure if I'm upgrading right away, so I really need to figure out a way to make my AI CS4 work soon!

Photoshop CS4 won't open RAW files
Photoshop CS4 will not open RAW (.CR2) files. I have tried what is listed on Adobe's website (checking versions, uninstalling, reinstalling). Nothing has worked. It still gives me the error message: "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
I am using CS4 on a 10.6.6 Mac OS with a Canon Rebel XS. I currently have Camera Raw 5.7 installed.
Does anyone have any answers ?
Thank you,
TeresaThe CAT.CR2 file that was posted is from a 1000D that does not have sRAW capabilities. Comparing the ExifTool data and the camera specifications, there should have been a small-sized preview JPG image and a large-sized RAW image in the file, but the file was truncated after the top-left quadrant of RAW data was written:

CS4 won't open any files.
I can't get any Illustrator files to open. I don't get an error message—just the spinning ball. I end up having to "force quit." Yesterday I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it and it worked perfectly, but this morning when I tired to open some files, same problems—won't open anything.
I agree with Wade. The culprit is very likely an influence outside of Illustrator. In addition to fonts, I'd definitely also check on a generic level whether the files get damaged in any way. Indexing and backup e.g. with Time Machine may have damaged the files or restored an unusable file from a backup or worse even, may do something weird to the application executable itself.

Bridge CS4 won't open RAW files from Canon 70D
I have Photoshop/Bridge CS4 which used to read CR2 Raw files fine from old Canon 30D@. I've just purchased a Canon 70D. Bridge CS4 will read the MOV video files fine, but not the Raw CR2. I've downloaded and installed Adobe DNG Converter 8.5, but when I open it and it asks to open files to convert, the CR2 files are still unreadable and greyed out. I'm on a Mac OSX 10.9.4. Is there some way I could preview RAW files from the 70D in Bridge CS4, and open in Camera Raw?
You need to upgrade to PSE12. Alternatively, download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software) You could also use the Canon software that came with your camera to convert to tiff, which would open in PSE11.
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.2
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

Elements 5.0 Won't Open DNG Files
I used Adobe DNG Converter version 8.3.0.141 to convert .rw2 files created by my Panasonic Lumix FZ200 camera. These files won't transfer into the Organizer and, when trying to open them from the Editor, I get an error message saying the file can't be opened "because it is the wrong type of file".
Works for me. I used Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 in PSE, and the DNG Converter set to compatibility "Camera Raw 4.6 and later".
What version of Adobe Camera Raw are you using? (In the PSE Editor, use Help About->Plug-Ins->Camera Raw)
What compatibility are you selecting in the DNG Converter? -
Bridge CS4 won't open .NEF file in camera raw
It says because photoshop CS4 does not recognize this type of file. I've opened plenty of Nikon .NEF files in Bridge. The difference is this is a D90 file and I've been getting D80 files. Is there a patch for newer camera models?
On a Mac I don't know which directory it should be in.
Camera Raw preferences: Bridge: menu Adobe Bridge/ Camera Raw preferences.
Inhere you can set the wished behavior for tiff. By default it shows tiffs
only in ACR when you choose to do so with right mouse click menu (open in
Camera Raw) or if the Tiff had earlier been altered in ACR, then it opens
automatically in ACR unless you choose not to do so.

Photoshop won't open DNG files or says get are absent?
Suddenly, ,most of my photos show up in Bridge as DNGs and when I try to open them with PS CC I get one of two messages: PS does not recognize this format or that the photo is missing. But when I use another program, it shows the photo.
Hello, Gene,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I got shunted to the forum while
waiting for a chat session. When you answered I was already in it, so
figured I would go ahead. Chat took only took 2.5 hours and two technicians
to figure out that Camera Raw had been corrupted. When it was reinstalled
all was good.
Thanks again,
John

I'm sure there's a simple solution I've missed, but Aperture 3 won't open DNG files converted from Olympus RAW (ORF). Any suggestions?
BrianAperture 3.5.1 and the camera is the Olympus OM-D E-M5.
And yes, Aperture will convert the RAW/ORF files but the devil is in the details. And since you asked (sort of), here are the details:
I own and have happily used Photoshop CS4 for the layered compositing I like to do, but it won't support ORF files
I tried importing/converting them in Aperture then editing in PS4 ... but Aperture 3 and PS4 don't play together well, so many come back as "unsupported file format"
Apple can't fix the problem and Adobe no longer supports PS4... put another way, Apple can't do anythig but they care, and Adobe could do everything but they don't care
It got worse when I upgraded to Mavericks, so to get around that I had to upgrade to Photoshop CC and pay the monthly "rental"
Aperture and Photoshop now work, but the demands of running them both are beyond my aging iMac that can't be upgraded, so I have to buy a new one, but the monthly fee (which everybody assumes will only go up in cost) + purchase of a new iMac for a guy on a fixed income are too much
So, I thought if I used DNG to convert the ORF files I could import them into Aperture for all the basics and organization, then use PS4 for the compositing... but Aperture won't read the DNG conversions.
And that, as the man used to say, is the name of that tune,

Why will CS4 not open DNG files converted from Olympus E-M1 raw files?
For several years I have been able to use the DNG Converter to convert .ORF raw files from my Olympus E-M1 and then open them for processing in CS4. Suddenly CS4 quit recognizing these DNG files saying "Photoshop could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file"
I have not changed any preferences. I'm using E-M1 v3.0, DNG Converter v8.3.0.141 on a Mac. I have deleted DNG converter several times, even reinstalled an earlier version but nothing changes.
However, CS4 will open DNG files converted from Pentax raw .PEF files from my K-5. Weird. It's the Olympus raw DNG conversions that won't open.
I can view the DNG converted files in question in Mac's Preview just fine but not CS4. Any ideas will be appreciated.Be sure the DNG Converter's compatibility is set to provide support for your version of ACR:

Can't open DNG files created with Mac CS5 downloader in Mac CS4 Photoshop
I recently installed CS5 on my mac but I kept CS4 installed as well. I notice that I cannot open DNG files created with CS5 in Photoshop CS4. Bridge CS4 shows the files only as icons - no image thumbnails. I am able to open these same files on a Windows version of CS4. Is there some plugin for my mac CS4 that will enable me to access the DNG files created with CS5? Is there a way to use my CS5 downloader when converting my raw files from my camera to DNG files that will make them compatiple with PS and Bridge CS4?

Well, yes...but you'll need to modify your DNG Converter prefs to allow for that. You''ll need a recent (ideally current DNG Converter 6.4.1 or above) and click on the DNG Converter preferences and select the correct DNG Converter options. Check DNG Converter 6.4.1 (the current version) and click on "Change Preferences" to be sure select Camera Raw 5.4 and later then make sure CS4 is updated to ACR 5.7 (which is the last version of ACR for CS4) However, the changes made to ACR 6.x really should be adopted since IQ for ACR 6.4.x is a lot better... -
CS4 will not open NEF files. I installed DNG converter and it did not help.
CS4 will not open NEF files. I installed DNG converter and it did not help. Also, I tried to just "update" photoshop and it did not work. It is a new camera (Nikon 1).
Yes, you need CS6. DNG Converter is just a standalone tool to convert RAW to DNG files which then may be possible to open in older versions of Adobe tools.

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version? . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
Thanks.A Good samaritan answered this for me on another forum
