CS5.1 vs. CS5 Extended

What is the difference between CS5.1 and CS5 Extended?
I bought a CS5 Extended CD, but recently downloaded a CS5.1 directly from Adobe.
Are both the same product?

Yes, they are the same. This version moniker was only used to distinguish between the then new Creative Cloud and the normal suitzes and to reflect the relevant technical changes in the licensing system.

  • Photoshop CS5 or CS5.5 or CS5 Extended

First I want to know that, what is the difference between CS5.5 and CS5 Extended ?
Second Which is the latest one CS5 or CS5.5 or CS5.1 or CS5 Extended ?

Actually, 12.0.4 and 12.1 are IDENTICAL in functionality but for the ability to license via subscription.
The Photoshop delivered via the creative suite CS5.5 has various names.  Adobe's site calls it Photoshop CS5 sometimes, Photoshop CS5.1 sometimes, and people often call it Photoshop CS5.5.  Internally, as pointed out above it uses version 12.1 - except sometimes (such as in the registry we see 55.0!).
I get the distinct feeling making a .5 release has been a bit of a discovery process for Adobe.
Now, to the second part of the question...
The difference between the "Standard" and Extended editions exists across all the mentioned versions, and Extended as you might imagine has additional features.  You can read more about that here, which is a surprisingly difficult page to find on Adobe's site.

  • HELP! Photoshop CS5 to CS5 Extended Install PROBLEM!

I had photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2 since they came out. I just recently (November of 2011)upgraded to Photoshop CS5 and Illustrator CS5, those installs went OK, I did forget my login info but a call to Adobe got that all figured out.
Now I only "Play" in photoshop and illustrator at home for my own entertainment, and really barely used the CS2, so I am still just a newbie playing around in photoshop and illustrator.
Anyways, after watching a bunch of Photoshop CS5 Videos, I realized that Photoshop had an "Extended" version with 3D I was unaware of. So I wanted the Extended version, I called Adobe and he said I was 37 days out on my Photoshop CS5, so all I could do now was Buy the Extended version or buy the Upgrade Extended version, since my CS2 was already used for the initial photoshop CS5 upgrade. But since I upgraded my Illustrator CS2 to CS5 a week later he said I could Return that if I wanted.
He brought that up in the convo, not I.
So I Bit the Bullet, AGAIN, and bought the Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade to Upgrade the Photoshop CS5 I had just upgraded too.
Let me say this, ALL are Legal Copies ALL Legit. (Before someone says anything about that.) CS5 Photoshop and CS5 Illustrator were bought from Amazon, by Amazon Not one of there outside sellers, and so was the Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade.
My Problem is, I cannot Install the Photoshop CS5 Extended? As I am installing it asks for the code, I type it in, then if has two photoshop things listed, one 64 bit and one 32 I believe. But also above them says "Already Installed" with a >! in a white dot. Hovering my mouse over it it says "If you select any of the below to install again it will be installed it the current file location."
I go through the Install and I still have the Regular Photoshop CS5 NOT the Extended Version???
Box and top of the DVD says Photoshop CS5 Extended on them. But the offered install files that are offered on it that say "Already Installed" above them in the installer , Neither one says anything about Extended just ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS5.1 ??
I went to Adobe and talked to a live chat guy but after he took my email and ALL of my serial #'s for ALL of my Photoshop products, had me try installing it again, and then just said I had to Call Adobe Tech. (That was Useless, they should just CLOSE the live chat thing if they can't do anything.)
Anyways, with NO Photoshop CS5 Extended getting installed on my PC Win7 64 bit I3 cpu with 8 gigs of ram, my Adobe Account on my "View Product Registration" Page it now Lists the serial # and info as of 1-1-2012 as having Registered my Photoshop Extended Version 12.0 with all my other registered Adobe software.
So HOW can I get the Extended to actually Install? I Opened the files on the DVD and really don't see anything that even says Extended on any?
I had Amazon OVERNIGHT this Photoshop CS5 Extended Upgrade to me so I could as Bert Monroy says, "Play, just Play it's the best way to Learn Photoshop." over the new years weekend, now I sit here frustrated instead.
Maybe I will email him, maybe he knows what to do, he has always replied to my emails and has Signed my Photoshop books authored by him. (Nice guy very helpful.)
    Any info/help much Appreciated.
    Thanks

Please explain this? I never done that before.
In Help I clicked Deactivate and then see a pop up box with 2 choices, Suspend Activation or Deactivate Permanently.
I hit the Cancel button at the bottom for now.
If this don't work I will Call Adobe on Monday and hopefully get it all worked out, or I will be packing up Both CS5 Upgrades I just bought and send them both back to Amazon for a full Refund.
This should NOT be such a P.I.T.A. just because a few kids hack and use photoshop without actually paying for it.
I am 50 years old BTW, and Paid for my Legit copys, but I gotta jump through Hoops as punishment for a few who don't pay.
Myleniums answer sure sounds like a big pain in the a** to go through and I'd just Return the CS5 stuff, Including the CS5 Illustrator I just upgraded as well. As a Amazon Prime Member they will take it all back and refund me my cash.
As a rare user, just for myself at home, I only Upgraded because I knew Adobe only allowed you to get 3 versions behind before you had to rebuy the full install software all over again so I waited until I thought it was getting close to CS6 coming out and I would Not be able to upgrade at the upgrade pricing. And the CS6 Licensing I read about coming up does NOT appeal to me.
So CS2 or CS5 will be it for me and Adobe. As a Hobbiest I cant afford to do upgrades for each new version. /i heard starting with CS6 you will be Required to upgrade when the very next one comes out, not able to skip a version. Or even some silly monthly fee type thing, Never will I pay a Monthly fee for software use.

I want to upgrade from Photoshop Extended CS5 to PS Extended CS6 Mac (I do NOT want CC) but have been unable to find this at a sensible price (or sometimes at all). Help, anyone please? This is in UK, btw!

What do you consider a sensible price?  PS CS6 extended is available only when you purchase the CS6 Suite, which is around $1000 for the upgrade from CS5.  PS 6, which is not extended, is about $200, but I'm not sure about upgrading to a single app from a suite.  Adobe used to allow it, but I'm not sure about now.  PS CC and Lightroom 5 combo is $9.99 a month or PS CC alone for $19.99 or the whole CC suite for $29 a month.  The latest CC apps are "extended."

    Hi Kenton,
Adding to what James mentioned, this stands true for both Lightroom and Photoshop. In other words, you don't need to necessarily install the previous versions but while installing the latest versions, in this case Lightroom 5 & PS CS6, you will need the serial keys for previous versions as well along with the current ones.

  • Upgrade from CS5 to CS5 extended pricing?

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from CS4 to PS CS5 and now want extended.
The upgrade price for this is the same as upgrading from any of the previous versions PS CS4, etc. $350
Originally the upgrade to CS5 from CS4 was $200 and to upgarde from CS4 to CS5 extended was $350.
So it seems to me I should pay about $150 to upgraded from CS5 to CS5 extended.
    Am I missing something here?
    Could this be right?
    Thanks,
    karen in austin

Log into your Adobe account and under orders, you should see the order.
There is a button for returns.
I'd get that going since it can take a few days for them to get working on it.
In my experience, they will open a case and you'll need to attach a screenshot of your online credit card statement to prove you were actually charged before they'll credit you back.

  • MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED

    Hello,
I'm interested to find out how to MAC UPGRADE FROM CS4 STANDARD TO CS5 STANDARD OR EXTENDED. Its my intention to buy the upgrade not thru
download, but purchasing the dvd's needed eventually used if necessary.
    Thank you

No, forget it. Adobe only sells current versions. How would you even be able to buy a used upgrade that is tied to someone else's previous version? Makes no sense at all and is clearly a breach of the EULA - whoever may sell you this "upgrade" would have to include all his previous versions leading up to that point, making it a completely independent full license that has no relation whatsoever to your CS4. And you would still have to run the license transfer drill.

  • The difference between PS CS5 & PS CS5 Extended?

Is there a website somewhere where I can see the difference between PS CS5 & PS CS5 Extended? Maybe a side by side comparison. I googled it but nothing came up and I can't find anything on the Adobe website.

  • Photoshop CS5, Photoshop CS5 ex, Photoshop Elements 9, iPhoto, Aperture????

Okay.... so I am a bit overwhelmed with trying to decide if I should be upgrading from iPhoto or not.
iPhoto has been great for making my photobooks. But, on occasion, it has been a bit frustrating trying to get the right number of vertical vs. horizontal photos on a page. Sometimes when adding, if you add in the right order, configurations can change, usually in size (not necessarily orientation unless it is the fewer photos per page layouts 2-3 or 4). But, it makes it go really quickly to do albums as there isn't much engineering going on as you go from page to page (on occasion, I make a separate dummy album that has a different theme that I think manages my horizontal v. vertical issue or perhaps the number of photos allowed on a page (as some themes only have up to 4 or 6 photos per page and on occasion, I like to have more 9, for example)).
Primarily, I have used iPhoto to do personal albums. I intend on possibly starting to offer my services to get albums done for people and/or do slideshow videos for them. With that, I do end up, even with my own, photos from years past or current that have coloring issues or rips/tears/fading.
As it is right now, I have used iPhoto to work on the highlights, shadows, etc, which for me right now, is by trial and error.... I don't really know what I am doing and iPhoto doesn't seem to care. Fortunately, whatever I do, I can go back to the original, which I think is true in Aperture as well... However, I think I might have heard differently with Photoshop (CS5 or Elements)?
I have not installed any plug-ins for the other printer services in iPhoto (eg. Leather Craftsmen), but, I know it is possible a client may want a 12x12 album or some of those other shapes, sizes, cover options out there.... e.g. Shutterfly, even.
One other bit of information is that I am not just a candid completely amateur photographer either. I do take quite a bit of photos with my Canon Rebel Xsi. Not top of the line.... but, although I can should in raw, have chose to always just go with jpeg as this is a hobby of mine and I really don't have loads of time to just adjust all my photos... nor necessarily the space on my computer to put everything at raw. But, I could be persuaded otherwise, if I really knew how to use and really know what the benefits of it are (again, I know I should take classes or something, just don't know where to focus my attention).
So, what am I asking? Well, a few things:
    1. If my primary goal is to make Photobooks, which program(s) should I have?
    2. I understand you could have iPhoto or Aperture and then edit photos in PhotoShop.... Does that save the file back to Aperture/iPhoto or does it make a separate file in Photoshop?
    3. Which books, classes, etc would you suggest to learn the uses of such program(s)?
    4. Does the program you mention in #1 strong enough to handle typical adjustments on jpegs-aging, color casts, lack of proper lighting, red-eye (iPhoto seems to do okay on this even in the auto function, but on occasion, it sometimes replaces with too dark of a correction, or not fully complete.)
    5. Does Shutterfly have a print plug-in so I could make photobooks on either Aperture or iPhoto and have Shutterfly print? Or is that just available on Photoshop (unless I print to jpegs and then upload to Shutterfly using the Shutterfly uploader)?
    6. Is it really beneficial to shoot in raw over jpeg?
    7. If Photoshop is even part of your answer in #1, is it worth it to have CS5 or CS5 Extended with the 3D option?

    1. If my primary goal is to make Photobooks, which program(s) should I have?
iPhoto is entirely template driven, Aperture's books are very customisable and there are losts of online options too. Google a bit and see what's out there.
    2. I understand you could have iPhoto or Aperture and then edit photos in PhotoShop.... Does that save the file back to Aperture/iPhoto or does it make a separate file in Photoshop?
Yes and Yes. In iPhoto: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
In Aperture, Preferences _. Export and set your external editor there. WHen you send a pic to PS with Aperture it makes a tiif or psd and sends it over. Saving in Photoshop brings it back.
Photoshop Elements is a good compromise between the cost of full photoshop and the features you'll need.
    5. Does Shutterfly have a print plug-in so I could make photobooks on either Aperture or iPhoto and have Shutterfly print? Or is that just available on Photoshop (unless I print to jpegs and then upload to Shutterfly using the Shutterfly uploader)?
You could look that one up at Shutterfly yourself, no?
    6. Is it really beneficial to shoot in raw over jpeg?
Depends on what you want to do... Really that's a massively basic question. I would check out some o the online Photo forums and see what advice you can find there tom get you started. You could do worse than look here
    http://www.digital-photography-school.com/
    7. If Photoshop is even part of your answer in #1, is it worth it to have CS5 or CS5 Extended with the 3D option?
Given the amount of your experience, rather than diving in and spending a whole lot of money, start with iPhoto and Photoshop Elements. Explore. IF you want to upgrade, when you're ready, migrate to Aperture and Elements. I think you're a good way from facing CS5 yet.

  • Flex not embedding metadata in CS5 and CS5.5

I believe we have a problem related to:
    http://blog.natebeck.net/2011/05/flex-sdk-4-5-doesnt-keep-embed-metadata/
The project is a CS4 fla that has numerous files embedded with metadata tags:
    [Embed(source = "campaign.xml", mimeType = "application/octet-stream")] public static var campaignData:Class;
    [Embed(source="mirror.pbj", mimeType="application/octet-stream")] public static var MirrorShader:Class;
    [Embed(source="rotateCW.pbj", mimeType="application/octet-stream")] public static var RotateCWShader:Class;
    [Embed(source = "shopUpgrades.json", mimeType = "application/octet-stream")] public static var upgradesData:Class;
    [Embed(source = "help.txt", mimeType = "application/octet-stream")] public static var helpData:Class;
None of the embedded data is being loaded in when compiled with CS5 or CS5.5
This is a serious issue for us as it means that all of our Flash 10 projects are now uncompilable in CS5 and CS5.5 and we are unable to make money on these projects.
What work around can we implement to solve this?

what exactly is your requirement. I have been able to read and write using property XMPString
this is the way to start, refer to extended toolkit documentation for XML class.
    var oXML = new XML(app.activeDocument.XMPString);

  • Tell if CS5 or CS5.5 at a glance?

Is there a way to know if an After Effects Project File is CS5 or CS5.5 at a glance? I mean by just clicking on the info or something? (Running a Mac). I have 5.5 and I down save them to 5 to send them to people and I was wondering if there was a faster way to tell than just opening every single file and checking it in AE. Thanks!

If you open an AEP file in a text editor like BBEdit you can actually
see which version of AE created it by looking in the meta data at the
    end of the file:
    <xmp:CreatorTool>Adobe After Effects CS5.5 10.5 Macintosh 64</xmp:CreatorTool>
I can't find anything in the file that shows which version of file it
    was saved as, though...
Opening a binary file like this in a text editor always comes with a
risk of you accidentally changing something that will make your file
    corrupt, so be careful.

  • CS5 or CS5.5 Adobe After Effects

I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and was wondering if CS5 or CS5.5 Adobe After Effects was available still?

No. You can only buy current versions. If your machine allows, it would be easier to just upgrade OSX, otehrwise you'll have to find a legit used copy of these older versions, which might prove quite difficult...

  • Is it possible to install CS5 or CS5.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM MacBook Pro running 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

Is it possible to install CS5 or CS5.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM MacBook Pro running 10.6 (Snow Leopard)?

Hi Carolyn, thanks for your quick reply. First thing I did before posting my question was to check the system requirements for Creative Suite, both on Apple and Adobe's websites. But I am however confused about the difference between "Multicore Intel processor" vs "Core 2 Duo", and keep hearing stories about CS5 not working properly.

  • Upgrade cs5 to cs5.5

how do i upgrade CS5 to CS5.5 on a mac I have the application already

    Hi GBnoble,
You can remove the older version and install the newer CS5.5 version if you have the installation media.
Keep both the serial numbers handy, the old version as the newer one as the installer will prompt to enter the same fo activation.
