CS5, 10.6.4, Nvidia 10.6.3 extensions, No Crash
I though I should post this in it's own thread so you can find it instead of the one I buried in another thread yesterday
Yesterday I replaced the 10.6.4 Nvidia drivers with the drivers from 10.6.3.
NVDANV50Hal.kext
NVDANV40Hal.kext
NVDAResman.kext
GeForce.kext
GeForceVADriver.bundle
GeForceGLDriver.bundle
GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle
GeForceGA.plugin
Extensions/NVSMU.kext
So far after about 8 hours of processing images I haven't had any crashes in CS5 running 64bit mode. Before the extension replace about every 10 images or so I would get the screen flicker and total computer freeze. All preference settings in CS5 were exactly the same as before with the total freeze.
I did not clean caches or remove any fonts, only repaired permissions after doing the extension replace. I simple mounted the dmg backup image from 10.6.3 and replaced the files listed above. You should save these files from 10.6.4 first in case you want to restore them.
A word of caution, I would not try this on a computer without another available boot partition as you really need to be booted into another partition to replace the extensions. And if anything goes wrong you can easily restore the 10.6.4 extensions.

No problem yet and I just got done working with 2 multilayered psd files with type layers. Really stable and snappy since the 10.6.3 extensions were put into 10.6.4.
Are you sure your problems are not font related. I don't why Apple keeps insisting on shipping and installing with every update, bad fonts. Maybe to make Adobe look bad?
I would strip every font out in the Library/Fonts and System/Library/Fonts folders that the OS will allow. That is what I always do after every OS update and I have had no trouble with CS4 either. Always clean font caches and reboot when you do this.

CS5 Rendering on a Nvidia GTX285 and Display on a Radeon
Hi,
I am trying to migrate to windows 7/64 and have used the Nvidia video processors for many years. I am currently using a GTX 285 with Premier Pro CS5 and the realtime rendering works exactly as advertised, it is truly phenomenal to see my effects immediately.
Unfortunately Nvidia has abandoned spanning the desktop accross two monitors, a feature that is built into ATI Radeon video cards. I would like to switch my displays over to a Radeon card and retain the Nvidia card in the system just for rendering.
Will CS5 still recognize the Nvidia card and use it for rendering?
Has any tried this configuration?
Any hints on how best to go about this?Straight from the proverbial horse's mouth:

Hi Manuel,
Please answer this time. I am going to replace my entire system, because my mother board does not support SLI.
I need to know from you exactly what cards in SLI configuration support horizontal spanning under windows 7.
I do not need brands, just the gpu's
Please answer
Gerard
There is no horizontal span support for any of our graphics cards under Windows 7, either Quadro or Geforce. We do have a feature called NVIDIA Surround which is like Horizontal Span but requires 3 monitors. It will not work across two monitors only. Also, all three monitors are required to run at the same screen resolution, refresh rate and sync polarity.
Since you are building a new system, any of the 400 series supports GPUs will support 2D NVIDIA Surround. For more information, you can visit the system requirements page at:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/3dv-system-re...technology.html
Horizontal Span is only supported at this time under Windows XP.

Extension Manager Crashes CS5 OSX 10.5.8
Hi
I need to load the Optional Plug Ins for Photoshop CS5 so Photoshop can use TWAIN to import images from my scanner. I've done it on another iMac but need to do it on this one. I have downloaded the files from the Adobe site and the Extension Manager crashes soon after opening it. I saw another thread that mentioned "From the crash stack product “smart crash report” 1.5b3 is installed. However, it should not be compatible with Snow Leopard, refer to the offical statementhttp://www.unsanity.com/haxies/smartcrashreports."
I don't have a "smart crash report" (maybe Santa will give me one for Christmas? )
I have tried running it from a clean user but same problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Here is the crash report:

Indesign CS5.5 v7.5.2 on Mac 10.7.2 Crashing when updating links
My first post here, so please be gentle.
I have had a constant problem for a couple of weeks with linked PDF files placed in CS5.5 - whenever I try to update the link it crashes. Yes its variable, it does it for some PDF's/links, but not for others.
I assumed it must be a corrupt something, however as I am not originating the PDF, I cannot change them, I can only open and place them for printing.
The log for interest can be downloaded from www.inception.co.uk/indesign_crash_log.txt
Is there a way of seeing why it crashed (ie a corrupt font or permission etc.)
I have been trying to resolve this for 3 days now, I have done a check on the integrity of the hard drive, I have removed and re-installed the complete adobe suite (with updates), I have recreated the PDF by opening in Acrobat and then exporting it page by page (each page has the same problem), I have re set all my permissions using coctail.
Please help, im ready to destroy my macbook with a big hammer, and they way my mackbook has been so solid over the last couple of years - i fear for the hammer.
GarethThese problems are rarely easy to debug.
It appears from your crash report:
5 com.adobe.PDFL 0x216ef8e3 PDDocGetMergedXAPKeywords + 86221
That the problem is in the Adobe PDF Library (not surprising, this is what reads PDF files) when getting "merged XAP keywords," whatever those are.
I believe the XAP: metadata has been superceded by XMP metadata, so this suggests your PDF files have corrupt XMP metadata, or XMP metadata that InDesign cannot deal with.
You might try running some of the preflights and fixups in Acrobat that relate to analysis of XMP metadata,
or simply removing XMP Metadata from the PDF entirely, again in Acrobat.
It sounds like this is a genuine InDesign bug (even if your PDF file was damaged, it should not crash ID!), so you should open a case with Adobe Support and get them to file a bug (http://adobe.com/go/supportportal). Optimistically, such a bug is unlikely to be fixed in time for CS6, so don't expect miracles. Think of it as making sure your bug doesn't hurt other people two years from now. -

In Pr cs4 ,install RED ADOBE CS4 plugin, such as 2k/3k/4k "red"cut footage is no problem..1.2?
- you shouldn't expect to be able to open a CS5 project with CS4; maybe it will happen, but often something will not function correctly
- PPro 1.5 is quite old, say 7-8 years, and things have changed quite a bit. CS5 supports converting projects from CS4 and CS3, but we make no guarantee at all about any previous versions. If you have CS3, you should be able to open your 1.5 project and save it as a CS3 project, which CS5 would then open. Even that has its own risks. -
I have a new PC/Win7 and a new CS5 Design Premium Suite. InDesign is extremely slow and crashes.
Any assistance about what might be going on would be extremely helpful. My CS3 was a dream compared to this version. UGGGG.No banking software but a few other items. e.g.

Hi there one and all.
I have a new Windows 7 64bit system and I am trying to work out if I can use my 2nd graphics card in a way to give me a dedicated external monitor output when using Premiere CS5.5? (and After Effects too if thats possible???)
My cards I have are the nVidia MSI GTX 470 and I have the choice of either my old nVidia 8800GT or old nVidia Quadro FX3700.
I can hook up 4 monitors as a desktop no problem, but I do not know if or how it is possible to display my Premiere timeline on the external monitor as a dedicated connection? If not do I maybe need something like the Black Magic Intensity/Shuttle card or Matrox Mini?
Any help would be very greatly appreciated.
Thanks - BradleyThanks Harm for such a quick response! much appreciated.
I see you said a GTX 450 would work to give the dedicated external monitor, does this mean that my poor old 8800GT has finally dried up in terms of helping my system or is it possible to use this card to provide a source monitor for Premiere?
With regards to the setting up of the 2nd card to not use the Hardware MPE, is this set from within premiere?
Thanks again!

PPro CS5 not talking to NVidia Quadro 4000...
Apologies in advance if this has been covered a million times on here (and feel free to point me to a thread), but...I have a new Mac setup, Adobe PPro CS5, and the NVidia Quadro 4000 card with MPE/Cuda. And PPro is not using the GPU.
I do have the latest drivers (for the card and for CUDA). The card was installed a month ago and I grabbed the drivers at that time.
Recently I worked on a simple 7-minute non-HD video, with no effects and minimal editing...and the publish time was 7 minutes or so.
I was expecting faster. And while it was publishing, my computer's CPU gauge said it was running at around 90%. I made sure the PPro project setting pointed towards the card GPU.Obviously the MPE and/or CUDA is not kicking in.
I have spoken to PNY (where I bought the Nvidia card) and they said if I have the latest drivers and could actually see something on my screens, then the card is working and...you know...it must be a problem with the PPro aoftware.
Oh, the Mac is a 2010 model, 8-core with a ton of RAM on it.
Thoughts?
JohnYou are not understanding how the MPE engine works. The MPE engine does not lower the overall load of the CPU as far as usage. It lowers the instructions ie the types of code/threads it has to handle in a given time period. The CPU has to handle all of the Decoding/encoding of the codecs/ie material that you are using. It will also have to process any non accelerated effects. It also handles all memory management and interrupts that is required by the applications, machine code, and hardware. The GPU handles the scaling, interpolation, and some of the effects besides drawing and GUID code. The CPU has to process the Decode then cache the material to ram so it can cache over to the GPU card Ram for CUDA processing. Once threading is done via the GPU then it caches back to the system ram for the CPU to final encode and adjust further frame data for effects. All of this means the entire pipeline happens faster the more load the CPU can handle focused on specific functions and at what GHz those process through the system during a given time. So basically the MPE allows the system to process more work in a given time period simultaneously essentially. So the higher the load on your CPU the faster your entire workflow will process. In simple terms, this means you want the highest CPU load you can get because that means the GPU, system ram, disks, or board throughput is not slowing anything down. Your at 62%. That means your system somewhere in the pipeline is not allowing the cpu to run at max performance in that given time period. I hope that clarify's what you are seeing and why.
And yes, OS/Application threading and caching is also included in not allowing the CPU to run at max capacity.

CS5, Windows 7, MSI nVidia GTX260
I just recently upgraded my graphics card from an 8800GT to a 260GTX. While using the 8800GT, Photoshop would detect the graphics card and I was able to enable hardware acceleration. After installing the new card Photoshop no longer detects the 260GTX. To answer the obvious question, I downloaded the latest driver software from nVidia last night and installed it to be certain. This was to no avail. Any thoughts on a solution? I'd really like to rotate my canvas.
I just upgraded my Nvidia GTS8600 card to a NVidia GTS250 1-GB memory this morning and here is what I did to insure a "uneventful" video card hardware upgrade on a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit o/s........
1. Go into control panel --> video --> properties --> uninstall video drivers
Once you complete this task you pc should flash then revert to 640 x 480 resolution which is safe mode display
2. Rmove old video card and install new video card making sure to reconnect your monitor cable and 6-pin video card pwr plug
3. Power up pc and it will automatically see out and d/l drivers (if you have Win XP you have to then manually install drivers)
4. Once the pc is quiescent google search "Nvidia OpenGL Drivers"
http://developer.nvidia.com/page/opengl.html
5. Download the appropriate drivers (depending which version o/s and if 32 or 64-bit) and install these new OpenGL drivers
6. Open PhotoShop Edit --> Preferences --> Performance --> verify/enable OpenGL -
I'm running windows 7 with 2 GB of Ram and roughly 2GHz processor, and every time I try to insert a video into photoshop, windows error comes up and says that the program has stopped working and needs to close. Weather it be Large or small videos, the program constantly crashes. What do I do?

After upgrading from cs5 to cs6, do I have to upgrade extensis fusion 3 to 4?
Do I have to upgrade from fusion 3 to 4 now that I have upgraded cs5 to cs6?
And do you know if extensis offers student discounts? I can't find anything on the 'net or their site, but I thought I'd ask here too before I buy the upgrade for (ugh) $50.
I thought maybe I would open the files in cs5 first, to auto-activate the fonts, then close, then reopen in cs6. Kind of a hassle, but it saves me a bit of green…
Any suggestions welcome.Yes, I have posted there, too. But these forums are more robust. Thanks

Photoshop CS5 question - trying to save a name with extension .jpg or .png
Hi,
If I open a new file and go to save it the extension names show up (.jpg or .png). However, if I open an illustrator file in Photoshop and try to save it the extension names are not there (it's just saving them as the proper format, but I want the files to have the .jpg or .png in the name without me typing them in myself.
Anyone know why this is or how I can fix it?rob3rockstar wrote:

That is not true. A net document save may default to .jpg. I do not ever remember a save defaulting to .png unless a the document was opened from a .png file. If the new document has layers save should open display the save as dialog and default to file type .psd.

However, if I open an illustrator file in Photoshop and try to save it the extension names are not there (it's just saving them as the proper format, but I want the files to have the .jpg or .png in the name without me typing them in myself.
I do not have or use Illustrator however I do not believe that Photoshop can open all illustrator file types like .ai. Photoshop may be able to import and export .ai file. If you have a document open in Photoshop you should be able to use "Save As" and chose the file type you want to save from the file type pull down menu. However .ai will not ne in the list. -
NVIDIA Cuda driver 6.5.18 crashes OS X Yosemite
Hello, I am getting erratic behaviour using RayTracing on CS6 11.0.4.2, sometimes it crashes the whole system, other times only AE itself. Anyone else experiencing this?
I actually had a very negative thing happen to me when I updated CUDA to 5.5.47, it broke my computer! Here's what happened and how you might put a band-aid on it for the time being....
Specs:
MacPro (Mid 2010)
Mavericks 10.9.2
ATI Radieon HD 5770 1024 MB
1) I went to System Preferences > CUDA > Update and ran the updated for 5.5.47
2) After the update was successful, I launched Adobe Prelude CC and it crashed immediately. Then I launched Adobe Premiere CC, crashed on startup.
3) I restarted my computer
4) Tried launching Adobe Prelude CC again, crashed.
5) Restarted my computer in Single User Mode, Ran a File System Check, shows that the Mac HD Appeared to Be "Okay"
6) Rebooted and went to System Preferences > CUDA, it shows that I had 5.5.47 but that a UPDATE WAS REQUIRED, the problem was that it didn't have an update button
7) I went to the CUDA update website and found the 5.5.47 update for Mac, ran it and it appeared to install successfully, but the applications still crashed and the preference pane for CUDA still showed that an update was required.
8) I called Apple, they suggested re-installing Mavericks, so I did. Still the apps crashed and CUDA showed 5.5.47 with an update still being required
9) I searched for CUDA and found that it was in HD > Library > Frameworks
10) I moved the CUDA Framework file to my Desktop to make a copy and to remove it from the Frameworks folder
11) Launched Adobe Prelude CC and Adobe Premiere CC and they worked fine.
I know CUDA does some wonderful things when it works, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to re-install and it get it working again, please let me know.
