CS5 16-bit printing problem... seriously, still?!?

I just finally broke down and upgraded to CS5 and Snow Leopard after hearing about the no color management utility released last year.  I kinda figured the 16-bit printing problems would have been fixed in CS5 as well, but at least for me they haven't been.
For the last two years I've done my image editing in CS4, then switched over to CS3 for printing.  I saw this upgrade as a change to finally be able to do everything in one place, but when I try to print in 16-bit I get the exact same result I got in CS4-- dark, low saturation, warm color cast. I'm running an Epson 11880 on 10.6.8 with all current drivers/firmware.
I'm making sure to check 16-bit in both locations in the driver, could there be something else I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I wonder if there is something different about the 8.65 drivers that doesn't default to Off (No Color Management). I sold my last Epson a couple of months back.
Why 8-bit prints fine but 16-bit doesn't seems really odd.  Might want to ask in the Yahoo Group forum. Surely there are others with the same setup.

  • Photoshop CS5 64 bits Workspaces problem (Win 7 64 bits)

    Hello.
Top bottom menu window at right of the screen starts minimized everytime I launch Photoshop, although workspaces (default and personalized) have all the windows maximized.
Is any other user experiencing the same problem?
Although I deleted, bring back the default ones, and created new workspaces, the problem persists.
Please see screen captures attached, thanks.

    Try this:
    1.  Restore the Photoshop window (i.e., click on the middle caption button, so that Photoshop is a window that is NOT maximized).
    2.  Get the panels looking the way you want them.
    3.  While the app is still Restored (NOT Maximized), close and reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still the way you want them?
    5.  If so, maximize Photoshop.
    6.  Close and Reopen Photoshop.  Are the panels still proper?
I've noticed that something is saved when Photoshop is in Restored view that is not saved when Maximized.

  • 16 Bit Printing

Canon has just announced two new printers that will use 16 bit printing. I suspect that is reflected in the print driver.
Does anyone know if LR will send 16 bit files to these printers?
    Wil

    >Does anyone know of Windows 7 will allow for 16-bit printing? I haven't
heard anything about this and I haven't been able to find anything that says
    yah or nay?
Supposedly it will. Adobe will still have to write the glue code though.
    >Not that it really matters you just aren't going to see much difference
between 8-bit and 16-bit printing. But, still.
Indeed you will not. All the tests I have seen say that even in the cases where it is supposed to be an advantage (smooth gradients etc.) it didn't do anything. If you use the profile inside lightroom you probably will not see any advantage. I haven't see any difference myself.

  • CS5 Photoshop large format printing problem

In making large prints (35 x 70 inches, 30,000 x 13,000 pixels) using CS5 Photoshop on Mac OSX 10.6.3, the last 12 to 18 inches of the print is solid black. Using the same file and computer with CS4 Photoshop the file prints correctly. The only difference is CS5 and sending 16 bit color to the printer.
CS5 also prints considerably slower in that the printer stalls. Using print preview prior to printing shows the image to be correct but the print itself is incorrect.
Is there a known issue printing with CS5 Photoshop and large images? Any workarounds? Suggestions on how to track down the source of the problem?

I just got off the phone for the second time in 2 weeks, with the same problem, Printing solid black rectangles, on all   of my Epson printer [2200, 7600, 9800]. I was on for over 8 hours last week and 2 hours today , and nothing that was tried has helped!
Last week I shut my whole system down in the evening, and the following mourning it was back working fine, last nite it did it again and I shut everything down about 11pm and turn it∫back on this am and the problem is still there, The supervising tech said  he tried everything he knew how to do, and the problem was going to some other tech investigation group and it would take 2 to 3 days to ©´t a response about this problem.  I print for a living and I am now out of business until they come up with a fix.
By the way when I print off my desktop in preview the pictures print normal, and a tip I øfƒer is when your testing make a postage size picture and test it on 8.5x11 plain paper, and if you ofse† it to a corner you can get 8 test on one sheet of paper.

  • Printing Problems with PS CC, but not CS5 or CS6

When printing from PS CC using the print dialogue box I am getting a severe red shift in the final print. When I print the same image from PS CS5 or CS6 I get a color-correct print.
I am running a MacPro with OS 10.7.5, and printing to a Canon iPF8300 with its latest firmware and print driver. I am using the proper ICC profile for the paper. In the print dialogue box, I select "Photoshop Manages Colors".
    A couple things I noticed:
In the "Print Settings" where I dial in the printer setup, the settings for "Color" are both turned off (Colorsync & Vendor).
In the printer driver settings (still within "Print Settings") the "Color" tab is grayed out, but when I click the "Settings" for that sub-panel, Colorsync is selected.
When I printed the image from the Canon PS Plug-in, the red cast was gone, but the blacks were too heavy (there is no "Black Point Compensation" check box available because the Canon plug-in uses Adobe Color Engine for that, and it's only 32-bit and won't run).
Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

I see the new/hacked AppColorMatchingInfo.xml file includes PS CC, v14.0.0.221

  • Problems with Win 7 64 bits printer configuration on RDS Web Access

    hey All,
I have a scenario with RDS 2012 with Session host in 2008 R2 SP1, and on clients with windows XP SP3 and win 7 SP1 32 bits, printer configuration looks ok  but in windows 7 64 bits it looks like a truncated configuration , i have been tested every solution
that was reported before, like changing GPO, install Drivers in the clients and in the server, changed display resolution (to print in video) and nothing works, is any issue or incompatibility reported in this cases ?
    Thanks in advance

  • Dark prints using CS5 & Epson R2400 ongoing problem, now new PC and magenta cast

Have tried every combination of set up in trying to solve problem. Had One Eye (now defunct lamp) various experts etc etc but compensated for dark prints by having screen lightened to bizarre point. Now having a new PC am faced with massive magenta cast. I really don't want to buy a new printer but have had the dark print problem since I got it. Have spoken to Adobe and Epson at length but eventually washed their hands. I feel it is something to do within the computer set up or Photoshop - don't think its printer problem. All drivers updated regularly. Thought it could be monitor problem but don't really think this is the case.
Any ideas welcome as I think I have tried everything. Use Windows 7.
Am retired and not very technically minded!  Serious amateur photographer.

I have an Epson 1280 printer, and I have the same problem with prints. Part of the problem are the different color profiles in the monitor and the printer. The other problem to deal with is the type of photo paper used. While looking at web sites, I found that the ICC Color Profiles for the printer are on the install disc and are not automatically installed. One of the links describes which folder to install the profiles on both Mac & Windows computers.
As station_two wrote, calibrate your monitor first.
Below is a link about calibrating.

I do not have an exact answer for you because I have not figured it out myself, but here is what I have been doing on my prints. I might recommend that you work on a copy of the original.
In the Layer floating window, create a New Adjustment Layer by clicking on the half black/half white circle, and choose Hue/Saturation or Color Balance or Selective Color. Because the prints come out too red, you want to increase the green sliders, which is the opposite of red, and/or decrease the red. (Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Color Balance) is another way to do it.
Under the menu item Image>Adjust Levels. Move the center triangle at the bottom to lighten the mid-range, or use the center dialog box and change it to 1.20 or 1.30, for example.
Now press Print with Preview (but you really are not going to print).
When the dialog box comes up, make sure the Print Space: dropdown is set to Epson Paper or whatever you are using.
I have been using Relative Colorimetric. Press Print. Another dialog box will come up. At the bottom will be a button for Preview, which will generate a preview of what the photo will look like if printed.
Keep going back to the original and double click on the Adjustment Layer and adjusting it until the Print Preview looks ok.
Be sure when you actually print that the paper and color settings in the Epson dialog box match your settings in Photoshop. There is a dropdown that has Print Settings or Color. Often they don't match unless you print several photos in a row. I have found printing at the lower settings (less than 360 dpi) also messes up the color.
It is not an excellent solution, but until I can figure out more, I am in the same boat as you.
I'd suggest saving the lightening and color adjustments as two different Actions.

  • What's the maximum print (page) size supported by CS5 64-bit?

I'm using 64-bit Windows 7, Photoshop CS5 64-bit, and have 24GB of RAM. I've put together some panoramas - big ones, up to 20'-30' long. I know the 32-bit version of Photoshop on a 32-bit processor and OS had a page size limit of around 108" long or so. To print anything longer than that required the use of an expensive RIP.
Does anyone know if my 64-bit goodness will allow me to print panos that are 20 to 30 feet long, without having to purchase a RIP? I'd simply give it a try, but I hate to waste a ton of paper just to find out that it wouldn't print completely. Any ideas?
    Thanks much!
    Scott

I think that some print drivers have a limit too, you might want to state what driver you are using.
Some printers do not use a driver, but an export module, that should alleviate all limits.
I remember a very old 30.000 pixel limit, that, I think has been lifted. you want to check the reference documents.

  • Printing problem in cs5 and imac 27

I have been running my Epson Stylus Pro 4800 on a macbook pro and cs3, for a couple of years with no problems whatsoever. I have now upgraded to a new iMac 27"and have had nothing but problems with the 4800. I have made my own profils and used Epson paper profiles but the prints are not as colourful as they used and totally wrong as well. I am also getting totally oversized prints compared to what image seize in ps is set to be.....for example, I have been doing a 10x21 test picture on Premium Lustre paper (photoshop is managing the colours through CS5, but it is printing the image at least 1,5 the size that it should be. All my settings are correct, dpi is 300, I'm printing at 1440dpi resolution on the correct profiles for the paper. I am at a loss to understand why this is happening. Is anyone able to assist me?
I can do the printing in preview  and that is looking quite ok. But trough photoshop it is bad colors and wrong size on the print.
    Regards Ulfja

I saw you're having a printing problem with CS5 while using an Epson printer. I'm having a problem too. Read my situation and see if you think it's similiar to yours. I posted this about an hour ago but have not heard from anyone yet.
I'm having problems getting good prints when using Photoshop CS5 with my Epson Photo R2880 printer, problems I never had with CS4. Here's the situation:
If I take a PSD file and print it using CS4, everything works out perfectly. But if I take that same PSD file and print it out using CS5, the print is now offset top to bottom, as well as left to right, along with a 1/8" black strip being printed down the right edge of the paper. As far as I can tell, everything is set the same.
I've compared all the print information found in the Print dialog summary box between CS4 and CS5 and everything appears to be the same. I've verified that I'm using the latest print driver with my printer, and I am. It's 8.27.  I've verified that I've checked off the box to center the print to the paper, each time I've made a print. And in trying to figure out what's going on, I've discovered that this problem occurs with any paper size when using CS5, but not with CS4.
I'm stumped and frustrated and without any more ideas as to what I should do next, except to always print my projects using CS4. If anyone has an idea for me, please let me know!
I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. The colors I'm getting in my prints from CS5 seem to be alright, but not the positioning on paper. It keeps offsetting and running a black stripe down one side. Fortunately I have CS4 on my computer that I can use to print from, but it shouldn't be this way.
    Good luck!

    >"Unfortunately then I'd have to say all bets are off. The only true test is to print with the standard materials that Epson has designed their printer for. Only if that works well should you be trying third-party materials. For example, third-party inks in general are of poorer quality, are inconsistent, clog more, and in the long run, do not save you anywhere the amount of money they advertise over the genuine Epson products."
Getting very nice results with an R1800, Inkjetfly CIS, and Red River paper. The R1800 has never had Epson ink run through it and has no abnormal clogging problems. In fact, clogs are rare.
Getting near perfect matches to the monitor with both Colorvision and x-rite calibrating/profiling equipment. The printer stays on 24-7 so the only ink used, other than printing, is a periodic nozzle check. I am not alone in this, so blanket statements like the above are specious at best.
And no, I don't sell prints for big bux, so whether they are going to last a hundred years is not a concern. Besides, until someone is around long enough to verify those claims, the jury is out. I've got color prints from the wet days that are fading after 20+ years. Third party inks are not necessarily lower quality than OEM. One of the reasons for the development of high quality third party inks was the dissatisfaction of B&W and fine art printers with the OEM products.
Of course the cheap refilled/knockoff carts being hawked on ebay and the like are a different story.

  • CS5 64 bit Clone Tool Problem

If I use the clone tool or the healing brush in CS5 64 bit, after selecting the source point with the alt key whenever I move the cursor a copy of the whole mage moves, it looks like I am moving a duplicate layer. I read a similar post in the Mac forum and the response was to de-select the show overlay in the Clone Source tool box, this works but takes away a very nice feature.
The problem does not happen in the 32 bit version.

Thank you very much that did the trick, much appreciated.

  • CS5 64 bit merging HDR image problem

    Hello,
I am doing a HDR image lesson (Adobe CS5 Classroom in a Book, page 139) using three .DNG files from the training CD.
If I use CS5 32 bit all (model's face and background) is ok.
If I use CS5 64 bit the image has bad background colors and a portion of the model's face is dark red.
So I a wondering if possibly the DNG was created by CS5 32 bit and cannot be opened and processed in CS5 64 bit HDR?
    Note:
Each DNG image looks good using CS5-64 File Open.
I have two jpg if needed to show.

Has anyone tried this on an installation of Adobe Photoshop CS5 or CS5.1, with an older version of Adobe Camera RAW installed?
I had this issue reported to me by a faculty member who is attempting to teach this lesson in one of our Mac Labs.  She has taught this lesson in the past without issue, but, recently reported this issue.  We recently upgraded our photography lab's equipment, which included new iMacs, and updates to software installed in the lab, including the CS5.5 Design Premium suite.  I'm able to replicate the issue on all the computers in the photo lab, with the same issue as others described above.  I then went to try to replicate the issue on my personal computer with CS5.5 installed, and, surprisingly, the HDR merge worked successfully.  The only signifigant difference on that computer was that it was running Adobe Camera RAW 6.6, rather than the current 6.7.  I then went ahead and updated the Camera RAW on that computer up to version on 6.7, and the problem doing the merge with these specific files returned as it had in the photo lab.
So perhaps this is a combination of 64bit and Camera RAW 6.7?  I can't get the 32bit workaround to work on the Mac's I'm testing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Very Serious Print Problem

    Hi,
I had made a report having CardLayout as its Layout Manager. This report spans multiple pages(i.e. cards).I had problem with this setup e.g. It used to miss some records on each cards + It used to give wrong totals. So I combined all records of all cards into one single card. This way it does not skip the records and also gives totals correctly.
But it has lead to another problem and that is:
In the previous setup of multiple cards there was no printing problem as I used to print each card i.e each page.
But with this modified setup i.e. all records into one card Iam finding it difficult to print as the contents of the report are very vast that it spans vast area both vertically as well as horizontly and so I don't get the info on paper as it gets cut,as the content of the report is very vast.and the content is related that is I cannot affored to either miss on the Horizontal wise cut and neither the vertical wise cut in print.
    IAM IN SERIOUS PROBLEM.
