CS5.5 embedded fonts

In the video tutorials and in the help on this site they use the character option in the properties of textInputs or textboxes or whatever, but I dont have a character option in my properties. All i see is Color Effect, Display, and Component Parameters. So i tried going to text and then to embed fonts but I still get an error saying i need to embed my fonts. Where can I set the fonts for text boxes to use? Is there something wrong with my Flash Professional or what?

This is how to make them dynamic:

  • Embedding fonts in Bridge (Photoshop CS5)

    Hi folks!
    I'm sorry for posting but I still have trouble with creating PDF via Bridge.
    I have sveral PSD-Files (CS5 made) using several image- and textlayers.
    Now I want to create multipage-PDF using Bridge that comes with PS CS5.
    Works fine so far but Bridge does not embed those fonts used in the PSD!
    Seems to me Bridge just merges all layers to one pixelbased image and saves it in PDF-format.
    But that's no good deal!
    In CS2 there was a much better solution in PS2 allowing to create multipaged PDF with embedded fonts.
    Is there any chance to embed fonts with Bridge?
    Plz don't tell me to use Acrobat or InDesign because I'm only using PS CS5.
    Thx!

  • Problem with embedding fonts in Illustrator CS5

    I have just installed Illustrator CS5, and have tested creating a PDF document based on one of my existing files, as well as a new file.
    When I open these PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am told that Acrobat cannot access one of the embedded fonts (Korinna BT).
    I have had no issues with embedding this font in Illustrator CS4, and (strangely), when I open these files in other PDF viewers (Preview and PDFPenPro), they report no issues.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    I have removed and reinstalled the font in question, and tested/verified that the font is OK - but still not joy.
    Regards
    Jeremy

    The error message I get is:
    "Cannot extract the embedded font 'MVZTIW+KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
    When I check the fonts in the PDF in "Document Properties" in Adobe Acrobat the following is shown:
    "KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular
         Type: TrueType
         Encoding: Ansi
         Actual Font: Adobe Serif MM
         Actual Font Type: Type 1"
    It seems that Illustrator is adding some strange "code" ('MVZTIW') to the beginning of the font, which means the actual font can't be found and extracted.

  • Flash CS5.5 - font outlines still get embeded while using runtime sharing

    I have a project where I use several SWFs and have the fonts outlines stored into a seperate SWF. Within the .fla file's I have checked the Import for runtime sharing with the various font definitions.
    In the library the linkage part shows for every font the Import: classname
    To get a correct idea how things look within the IDE, I've checked several character ranges within the font properties so the preview renders correctly.
    In Flash CS5 everything was working correctly; no font outline was included within the SWF. The size report also shows this.
    When I create the SWF with Flash CS5.5 font outlines of the selected ranges still get embedded into the SWF. The file size of the SWF is much larger and the font outline information shows up in the size report.
    Anyone has a solution for this problem?

    I've just stepped into the same problem. Quick analysis of SWF content showed that all "import" tags have been removed and replaced by "font" tags (sometimes empty (empty - meaning no glyphs are there), sometimes not). I am publishing SWFs for Flash 8/ AS 2.0, thus, the SWFs should be FULLY compatible with old players. Technically speaking, importing of fonts is totally busted in CS5.5 and makes the CS5.5 completely unusable for us.
    Seems VERY much like a nasty bug. I am going to play a bit more with it in order to find a workaround. If not - I'll go back to CS5. I really hope Adobe will fix this bug ASAP. I have submitted a bug report about this issue.
    A bit more info about repro the issue: create font.fla and export font $Font from it. Create the second fla (main.fla) that imports the font $Font from  the font.swf. Publish all the swfs. Look inside the main.swf and instead of "ImportAsset" tag for font you'll see the regular "Font" tag (like it was never imported). However, the "ExportAsset" tag exists in font.swf and it looks completely fine.

  • Embedding fonts

    I'm a bit confused about embedding fonts. I have Flash CS5, which the help files say automatically embeds fonts.  But then the files go on to describe how to embed fonts, as if it needs to be done.  Do I need to embed fonts for files made with Flash CS5?
    The reason I ask is that when I replace text fonts in the template I'm modifying, the font changes its appearance, even though it says it is the same font as the one that came with the template.  The font is Tahoma regular 11pt.
    I tried embedding the Tahoma font, but I'm not sure I'm using the embed process correctly.  For one thing, it doesn't seem to have many fonts you can embed. Tahoma isn't listed.  When I enter text, it looks awful -- low resolutions, bad justification, ragged edges.
    I have a MacBook Pro running leopard.
    Than you for any help you can give.
    Best -- Catherine

    I'm new enough to Flash that I don't fully understand what you wrote above. Is a static textfield one in which letters remain stationary? And by the characters actually used in the specified textfield, do you mean the characters I enter or the ones already there? In other words, if I enter letters that weren't used for that field in the template (eg, my name instead of the generic name), will they all be embedded?
    I'm not sure embedding is the problem. I think I've done it. At least, Tahoma 11pt is now one of the fonts listed in the embed menu when I bring it up.
    But the font looks awful. It is supposedly the same one as in the template, but it doesn't look the same. The size, resolution, and spacing are all bad, whereas in the template they look nice. It doesn't happen until I actually go into an element in Flash and change text. It essentially seems to "reset" the text to a new font that looks bad and doesn't space out properly.
    Thanks for any help you can give me with this!

  • Embedding fonts in pdf

    Hi there, this questions sounds a bit lame but it got me puzzled. I have to produce a pdf where the client (without any design skills)
    can edit some parts of the text without having the font so the pdf must have embedded fonts.
    When I check the pdf in Acrobat X is says "FontName (embedded subsets)" but when I open this pdf on another machine without that
    specific font and want to edit the text with TouchUp, I get a dialog box saying: "All or part of the selection has no available system font.
    You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font."
    I'm exporting directly from  ID CS5.5. What am I missing here?

    It's not wheter the font is free or paid, it's waht the internal settings are that determine if a font can be embedded, and if so what use can be made of the embedded font. Though not about ID or PDF, this article from Microsoft gives a good overview of embedding restrictions: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms533034%28v=vs.85%29.aspx
    That said, if you see the same error message with a lot of different fonts (try something common, like Arial that ought to be on almost every computer, too), then something else is probably at play.

  • Embedding fonts in document

    I work for a Printing Display company. Illustrator CS3 allows you to embedd subset fonts only with permission bits available. The problem I'm having is some of our big customers do not want to send copies of the fonts they paid for. They save the file as a PDF with the fonts embedded so that they will view and print from either Acrobat or Reader. If I open the file in Illustrator I get a "Font missing" warning. What is the work around for this? The reason I need to open these files in a Graphics App is because we need to use our templates in order to edit colors and bleeds and such. Without the fonts it's pretty much useless. We could tell the customer to just outline all text but this is a hassle for all kinds of reasons. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Paul,
    When you open a PDF in Illy, all text is made Live Type, using the same font. If it is not accessible on your machine, Illy substitutes another font based on her best guess for a best match.
    The option of having embedded fonts outlined and thereby turned into non (textwise) editable vector objects, very useful in many cases without need for modifying wording, has long been wished. I am afraid this wish has not been met yet; maybe it will happen in CS5, or later, or never.
    Those PDFs without issues only hold fonts that you have.
    I thought I remembered that there was a cunning roundabout way of obtaining this, and here it is, at least for versions from CS2 on:
    1) File>New to open a new blank document;
    2) File>Place the PDF, ticking the Link option;
    3) Object>Flatten Transparency, ticking Convert All Text to Outlines option if applicable (flattening causes outlining at least in 10).

  • Has anyone got embedded fonts in SVG to work on Mac OS X Lion?

    I have used CS3, CS4 suite versions of illustrator on Snow leopard, and embedding fonts worked correctly,
    but on several computers at work here, none of the CS5 or CS5.5 suite versions of illustrator embed fonts in SVG format on Lion.
    I have also tried CS4 on Lion and still does not work...
    Saving as SVG without fonts works fine,
    Saving with fonts shows error message and no fonts are ever brought over.
    This shows brand new ai file with a text box and three letters in standard font:
    This shows saving as SVG to documents folder  (does not matter where saving to, issue still exists):
    This shows the SVG options (Note font is SVG, subsetting is common english and glyphs used.)
    Error message:
    Does not matter how many fonts are attempted to be embedded, no fonts (with glyphs translation) ever show up on the svg file.
    Any suggestions?
    Other than
    reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5 then CS5.5(DONE, does not work)
    reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5.5 only(DONE, does not work)

    This is what i currently have to do:
    Currently i use a secondary PPC computer with leopard 10.5 and Illustrator CS3 on it, and save the file as svg using those settings (fonts).
    Open the CS3 svg in text edit
    Copy fonts created in CS3 and then paste in CS5 svg file which i created on the intel computer with lion (mac 10.7)
    Also tested this in mountain lion 10.8, still same error, have to do this stupid workaround for now....

  • ASDoc Error: Can't find Embedded Fonts?

    Hello,
    I am working in Flash CS5 Professional.
    On my stage, I have a dynamic TextField (my_txt) that uses a basic font, we'll say Arial. However, I want to format some of the text within the field with a custom font.
    I've embedded the font and exported to ActionScript as per Adobe's documentation, so now there is a Font item in my library named "MyCustomFont".
    The properties of the Font are -
    Class: MyCustomFont
    Base Class: flash.text.Font
    So, I've written a custom class file and I want to format the text, so the AS code within the class looks something like this:
    var my_font:Font = new MyCustomFont();
    var my_fmt:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    my_fmt.font = my_font.fontName;
    my_txt.setTextFormat(my_fmt, 5, 15);
    This is pretty much like the examples I've seen in Adobe Docs. And, it works swimmingly when I test the movie; however, when I try to document the class using the ASDoc command line tool, I get the error:
    /Path/To/Project/And/The/Classes/SomeClass.as(221): col: 27 Error: Call to a possibly undefined method MyCustomFont.
                var my_font:Font = new MyCustomFont();
                                       ^
    I THINK I understand why ASDoc isn't finding the "method" MyCustomFont... the "method" is actually a Class contained in the Library within the .fla.
    So, is there a special argument I need to write in the ASDoc command line so that it will recognize embedded fonts?
    Or, am I supposed to use an "import" statement in SomeClass to import the embedded fonts somehow?
    Thanks!

    Ahhh...found the answer, do the same thing as I would do for any project that uses the built-in AS3 components (such as FLVPlayback):
    Put the Font items into a new .fla library and export a SWC.
    Then use the "-library-path /Path/to/SWC" argument in the ASDoc command line tool.

  • Textfields Reverting From Embedded Font

    Mac OSX 10.6.6
    Flash CS5
    Help!
    I have a fairly large (16.3 MB) FLA used to publish a SWC that contains an embedded DF3 font and ui elements.  All the textfields in the FLA are named, Classic/Dynamic instances.  Everything was going fine, until one day I opened the FLA and textfields all over the document had sporadically blanked out and replaced with distorted rectangles.  When I check what the font is set to, it's at the system default (Times).
    Resetting the textfield to my embedded font fixes it, althought the height/leading of the text needs to be adjusted.
    Here are the settings of an example textfield before:
    And how it is supposed to look:
    Now here is what happens to the dialog:
    And how it now looks:
    The first time this happened, I figured it was some kind of mistake I made and fixed all the textfields by hand.  Now this is the second time, and I am somewhat concerned that if this is a recurring issue, it will destroy my project.

    Thank you for your reply to my post last week, and my apologies for the delayed follow up.
    Whilst I was moving the registerFont code from the master SWF to the embedded one, I discovered an error in the code I had originally posted as a snippet here. For some reason the code I had moved to the external font SWF had lost its static modifier (should have been public static const embeddedFont:Class). That was the reason it was not present when I did the getDefinition on the class. After going back to the original code with the static keyword in place, all began to work properly.
    Thank you for your help and my apologies for the confusion.

  • Using an Embedded Font in another .swf

    I am encountering a situation with font embedding that hopefully someone out there will know the solution to. This is a slightly boiled-down version of the problem but all the pertinent details are included. Without further ado, here's the situation:
    TLDR Version:  If I have a font embedded and registered with Font.registerFont(), and I attempt to use that font in a .swf that was compiled from an .fla in Flash CS5 that so much as MENTIONS that font, it fails.
    Longer Description:
    The Goal: Embed fonts in 1 .swf, use those fonts in many .swfs. Simple.
    Fonts.swf
    I have 3 .swf files. The first is called Fonts.swf. This was created in Flash CS5. It contains an embedded font( Franklin Gothic Demi ) with characters a-z, A-Z, numerals, and punctuation, etc. Regular, not bold. The font is exported for actionscript and the class is FranklinGothicDemi.
    On the main timeline of Fonts.swf is the code:
    Font.registerFont( FranklinGothicDemi ).
    Application.swf
    The second .swf is Application.swf. The following code snippet is from Application.as:
    [Embed(source="Fonts.swf")]
    private static var EmbeddedFonts:Class;
    initFonts()
    var embedFont:EmbeddedFonts = new EmbeddedFonts();
    embedFont.addEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, function( e:Event ){ traceEmbeddedFonts(); } );
    When traceEmbeddedFonts is called, it verifies that Franklin Gothic Demi is in fact registered.
    UserInterface.swf
    The third .swf file is UserInterface.swf. Fonts are NOT embedded in this file. They are not supposed to be. The project has many .swf files and they should all be using the fonts embedded in Fonts.swf.
    On the main timeline of UserInterface, it calls it's own version of traceEmbeddedFonts(), which again confirms that Franklin Gothic Demi is embedded.
    Inside UserInterface is a TextField we'll call mMainTextField, with some text, say "Main Menu". The font is "Franklin Gothic Demi", the anti-alias style is 'use device fonts.' I have tried other anti-alias styles as well.
    As it turns out, UserInterface.swf is 'embedding' Franklin Gothic Demi, with a character set of a big fat 0 characters. This is taking precedence over the Franklin Gothic Demi font embedded from Fonts.swf. I can side-step this problem by setting mMainTextField to use some other Font while publishing and then using actionscript to change it back to Franklin Gothic Demi when the project is running, but that's not a solution that is friendly to the artists.
    In essence, the question is simple: Why is Flash Embedding and Registering fonts with character sets of size 0, despite the fact that nowhere in UserInterface.swf is there a request to embed fonts, and how do I prevent it from doing so?
    If anyone who sees this has already encountered and solved this problem and shares the solution with me, you will be my favorite person .
    Thanks!
    -J

    You know, I think its just a bug inside Flash Builder Burrito. When I run my app through the emulator it doesn't display correctly but when I run it on my phone it works as it should.

  • Embedded font and Combobox

    Hello All,
    Scenario of my application: Application have combobox filled with fonts list. When user select font from combobox. Application load font swf from server and apply to text.
    I have embedded fonts in SWF using css.
    @font-face {
        src: url("assets/fonts/arial.ttf");
        fontFamily: "Arial";
        fontWeight: "normal";
        embedAsCFF: true;
    here is code snippet to load font from server.
    var eventDesi:IEventDispatcher = styleManager.loadStyleDeclarations2(fontStyleName.@swfURL);
                eventDesi.addEventListener(StyleEvent.ERROR,function(event:StyleEvent):void{
                    Alert.show("error while downloading font " + fontStyleName.@name);
                eventDesi.addEventListener(StyleEvent.COMPLETE,function(event:StyleEvent):void{
                    fontStyleName.@isDownloaded == "true";
                   if(functionToCall != null)
                        functionToCall.call();
    Problem:
    When I select font arial form combobox all list of fonts,tool tips are get disappear. My primary exploration is combobox has arial font and I am loading again arial and registering it. This may be the cause.
    Is there any way to set embeded font to any control?
    Thanks,
    Vikram

    Hi,
    Follow this tutorial and use the code below..
    http://www.designscripting.com/2011/06/as3-combobox-font-embedding-problem-flash-cs5/
    var arial:Font = new ArialFont();
    var myFormatBlack:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    myFormatBlack.font = arial.fontName;
    myFormatBlack.size = 18;
    myFormatBlack.color = 0x000000;
    myComboBox.textField.setStyle("embedFonts", true);
    myComboBox.textField.setStyle("textFormat", myFormatBlack);
    myComboBox.dropdown.setRendererStyle("embedFonts", true);
    myComboBox.dropdown.setRendererStyle("textFormat", myFormatBlack);
    myComboBox.setStyle("embedFonts", true);
    myComboBox.setStyle("textFormat", myFormatBlack);
    myComboBox.prompt = "Select State";
    myComboBox.width = 248;
    myComboBox.height = 25;
    myComboBox.x = 100
    myComboBox.y = 100
    myComboBox.setStyle("textPadding", 1);

  • Possible to use embedded font in TLFTextField, with TextFormat?

    I want to be able to dynamically change the font in a TLFTextField to an embedded font (not a device font).  I'm using Flash CS5.
    The only way I've found a TLFTextField will use an embedded font is if the on-stage TLFTextField has been set to use that font through the Flash UI.  The example code I've found online (Font.registerFont etc) all works fine for a TextField, but not TLFTextField.
    Below is a very simple piece of code that I expected to work.  I have a font (Earwig Factory) embedded in my library (as DF4, linkage "Earwig"), and the isFontCompatible trace call prints "true", but still it is using the device font - if I remove the system font from my machine (or view the SWF on another machine) it falls back to Times New Roman.
    Can anyone give a very simple example of a TLFTextField dynamically selecting an embedded font?  Eventually I would like to store my fonts in a separate SWC / SWF, but for now just working out of the Library would be a good start.
    Thanks,
    Grant
    import flash.text.TextFormat;
    import flash.text.AntiAliasType;
    import flash.text.FontStyle;
    import fl.text.TLFTextField;
    import flash.text.engine.FontLookup;
    var format:TextFormat = new TextFormat();
    format.font = "Earwig Factory"
    trace("Earwig Factory isFontCompatible: " + tf.isFontCompatible("Earwig Factory", FontStyle.REGULAR) );
    tf.defaultTextFormat = format;
    tf.embedFonts = true;
    //tf.antiAliasType = AntiAliasType.ADVANCED;
    tf.setTextFormat(format);
    //tf.textFlow.fontLookup = FontLookup.EMBEDDED_CFF;

    Ok, I have some success - I can get an on-stage TLFTextField to dynamically use an embedded font.  However, this is quite complex, and doesn't use a TextFormat.  And is this seriously the way Adobe intends us to do it - if so perhaps this should be documented better?
    import fl.text.TLFTextField;
    import flashx.textLayout.formats.TextLayoutFormat;
    import flashx.textLayout.elements.TextFlow;
    import flash.text.TextFormat;

    import flash.text.FontStyle;
    import flash.text.Font;
    import flash.text.engine.FontLookup;
    import flashx.textLayout.edit.ISelectionManager;
    import flashx.textLayout.edit.EditManager;
    import flashx.textLayout.edit.SelectionState;
    var updateTF:TLFTextField = stageTF;
    var applyFont:Font = new Earwig();
    updateTF.embedFonts = true;
    var tlfFormat:TextLayoutFormat = new TextLayoutFormat();
    tlfFormat.fontFamily = applyFont.fontName;
    tlfFormat.fontLookup = FontLookup.EMBEDDED_CFF;
    updateTF.textFlow.invalidateAllFormats();
    updateTF.textFlow.hostFormat = tlfFormat;
    var prevManager:ISelectionManager = updateTF.textFlow.interactionManager;
    var editManager:EditManager = new EditManager();
    var sel:SelectionState = new SelectionState(updateTF.textFlow, 0, updateTF.text.length);
    updateTF.textFlow.interactionManager = editManager;
    editManager.applyLeafFormat(tlfFormat, sel);
    updateTF.textFlow.interactionManager = prevManager;
    updateTF.textFlow.flowComposer.updateAllControllers();

                                            var font1:Class; //This is only used to compile the code
    I use Flex SDK 4.5,
    what can i do ?
    Thank you in advance,

    To use embedded fonts in a Flex component, the fontFamily for the component needs to be set to an embedded font that is in the same SWF as the other embedded fonts in the TextFlow.  See my blog for more details

    Hi Jin-Huang
              But when I use Simple ASProject with SDK 4.1 then it works fine but when I create Flex project then it give error
    with SWFContext.
    I think it's a issue of swfcontext or AS comunication with Spark components.
    Please let me know if any solution.
    Thanks

  • How can I create a PDF with embedded fonts (not a subset of the font) from Excel?

    I need to create PDF's from Excel spreadsheets. The PDF needs to have embedded fonts but every time I create one it only has a subset of the embedded font.  I have tried setting preferences in the Acrobat add in (unchecked the "Subset Embedded Fonts" option and also tried with the Subset Embedded Fonts checked but the percentage set to only 1% in an attempt to force full font to be embedded.)
    I also tried opening the resulting PDF with Acrobat Pro XI but could not figure out how to add the font in.
    A method to accomplish the results from either tool would be great.

    Anna;
    Unless you can add those fonts to your system via the Font book and then substitute them in iPhoto, you'll have to either user the available fonts or create your own pages, 8.5 x 11, in an image editor like Photoshop Elements and use them on pages that are one photo per page. Other's have done that with some success.
    If you has PS or PSE create an 8.5 x 11" canvas at 300 dpi. Then you can add your photos, add text (if PS can use the text), and create your own layout.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
