CS5.5 IK Keyframes?

I've been following various tutorials for creating animation with IK in Flash Pro CS5.5. All the bones are connected and the character yanks around as expected but when I  create a new pose in later frames it does not create a new keyframe marking that pose. Insert pose is greyed out. How do I fix this?

Hmm, all the tutorials say "Movie Clip or a Graphic symbol" but I find it only works with Graphic symbols otherwise the Pose options are all greyed out.

Does anyone know why the keyframes are not automatically inserted at the in and out points of a clip after selecting layer, time, time remapping?

Keyframes aren't inserted at the In and Out points of the layer; they're inserted at the beginning and end of the layer.
Is that not what you're seeing?

  • AVI length different in CS5 than CS4, GSpot, Media Player, etc

    Hi folks,
I'm not quite a complete neophyte but close so my apologies if I've missed something obvious.
I've just upgraded to CS5 (5.03) and am encountering a puzzling situation. I'm have a set of Cineform AVIs (codec version 6.9.3.530) converted from 2 different camera's (one creates .mts files and the other .tod) and while the final avi's from one camera (.mts source file) seem to be working fine, files from the other will only report just over 2 minutes in lentgh. Actual time is better than 16 minutes.
Not working within a sequence yet, just looking at the file in the Project window, Source monitor and properties.
AVI's in question play fine in Premiere CS4, VLC, Media Player, etc. Everything looks to be alright in GSpot (correct length reported, plays fine). Interestingly GSpot reports 24,346 frames and CS5 reports 12173 keyframes, 12173 delta frames ... same I think?
    To sum up ...
Cineform AVIs created from 2 different source file types (mts and tod) during the same conversion batch session (same setttings).
Both sets of AVIs work fine in CS4 and other apps
AVIs beginning life as MTSs working fine in CS5
AVIs starting as TOD are only about 2 minutes long in CS5 but lengths are fine elsewhere.
Any ideas or other information I could provide to help solve this?
    Thanks much,
    Lee

Nevermind ... not that simple apparently. I managed to get one of the avi's in the CS5 project created automatically when opening the original CS4 project to show the entire contents but can't replicate the behavior to another project using the same avi. Here are the media start, end, duration and video in, out duration values for the file. Viewing the avi in the source monitor I can see the full 16+ minutes. Odd disconnect between the 2 sets of values.
    Any idea would be great!

  • Working on keyframes in a copied sequence changes the original sequence as well (Premiere Pro CS5.5)

    Hi everyone,
maybe this is a very basic question, but the search in the forum didn't bring up any related questions, so here i go:
Let's say, i copy a sequence in Premiere Pro CS5.5 and paste it in the same project. I have some textclips with keyframes in them. (I do this, because the videos stay the same, i just write different things into them. When i change the keyframes in the copied sequence the way i need them there and then go back to the original sequence, the keyframes there were changed as well. This is not what i wanted.
My question therefore is: How can i make a copy of one sequence and then work on it without changing the original one at the same time? Why are they linked anyway? Is that just a selection in my version of Premiere Pro or is that a general thing?
Would be great, if someone could explain that to me.
    thanks!

If you have not done the New Title Based on Current Title, what you have are Instances of that Title, and they are all linked to the original Title. Make a change, and it is global to all Instances. This is very useful, if for instance, you have a typo. Say that you have used the old Western moivie cliche Title "Meanwhile Bock at the Ranch," a dozen times, only to discover the typo. You only have to correct "Bock" to "Back" one time, and it corrects all Instances of that Title.
With New Title Based on Current Title, you have separate, individual, and un-linked Titles, so any change will ONLY affect the Instances of THAT Title.
While the Instances can be very useful, one can be easily confused, when a change to one Instance affects all others.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Flash CS5 crashes while inserting a keyframe in Motion Editor

When I try to insert a keyframe in Motion Editor, Flash CS5 crashes.
I tried to use two computers running the same Mac OS X 10.5.8 with the same specs and only one of the machines crashes.
    Any ideas?

Is it any FLA on that machine?  As in, you can open a brand new FLA with nothing in it, draw a square, turn it into a tween, and inserting any keyframe in the motion editor crashes Flash?  That said, since you cannot reproduce on another system that's identical, it sounds like something went wrong in the install process.  I'm not sure what it might be, as we haven't encountered that kind of problem internally (or a crash on property keyframe insert).

  • Flash CS5.5 (and 5) Crash when attempting Convert to Keyframes on Classic Tween

Wait - there's one more detail:  The tween has an ease with an intermediate handle that creates an inflection, as shown in the image.  Notice that most of the tween is highlighted in preparation for making that interval into individual keyframes - but pressing F6 causes Flash to crash.  I've tried this on both CS5.5 and CS5 on separate computers with separate licenses installed with identical results - Flash either crashes on this simple task, or completely bungles the attempt and will crash on an attempt to close the file, delivering this error:
"Exception thrown in destructor  (f:\dd\vctools\vc7libs\ship\atmlfc\src\mfc\winfrm.cpp:143)  Encountered an improper argument"  - smells like overflow overwrite error.
Found this one the other day while animating a character - set it up yourself and see!  Create a graphic symbol, move & rotate it a bit over a classic tween of some interval of your choosing.  Give the tween an ease-in, then edit the tween curve by inserting an intermediate point and manipulating the curve handles.  Once you've OK'd that, select an interval that includes the frames containing the intermediate point (save your work!), press F6 and watch Flash get a slack-jawed glassy stare.
Yep, I tried it on good ol' CS3 - with no problems.  Don'cha just love it?

    Hi Morf,
I can't reproduce your crash. Can you please send me the file up to the point where you saved? Please zip the file, change .zip extension to .zzz, email the attachment to my attention at [email protected]

  • New in Premiere Pro CS5. Questions: markers, shortcuts, keyframes, and more!

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm an editor from Argentina, with background in Avid media Composer, but I'm switching to premiere pro cs5 for a new job. I was highly and happily surprised with it. But, there's still a couple of things I haven't quite got right, yet.
So, a couple of newbie questions... you'll save me a lot of time if you can answer some of them.
    Markers
1a. Can I use markers with different colors?
1b. Is there a way to select more than one marker and delete them at the same time? Of course, with out deleting all of them, just the ones I need.
1c. How can I set up a shortcut for going to next\previous clip marker in the timeline? In shortcuts, I go to Marker>Go go Clip marker> and select a shortcut, but in the timeline it goes nowhere. I have made this work for sequence markers in the timeline, and this shortcut also work for going next\previous marker on a clip in the source monitor.
1d. How can I extend a marker in the timeline? I know I can set the duration of the marker in the pop up menu... but if there a way to do it directly in the timeline?
    Razor Tool
    2. A simple one. After I've used the razor tool on a clip... how can I join the clip again?
    Track Select Tool
    3. Can the Track Select Tool, select all the clips to the LEFT, instead of all the clips to the right? In avid there's a Select Right command, which works as the track selector, but there's also a Select Left command, which does the same, but to the left.
    Audio Master Meters
4.Another simple one. Can I put this in a horizontal way? It'll fit perfectly in the tool bar then.
    Tab sizes
5.Can the tab size be modified? I have "Media browser", "Info", "History", "Effects" all docked... but the size of the panel is such that I can never see the four tabs at once, I have to drag the little bar at the top. Can I have the tabs be smaller so that I can see the four of them... as if they said "Media.." "inf.." "hist".."eff"... instead of wasting space with long tab names?
    Keyframes
    6. Is there a shortcut to add one? Where is it in the shorcut configuration? I know I can put them with the Pen Tool, I need a shortcut to replace the "add/remove keyframe" button on the tracks in the timeline.
6b.How can I snap the current time indicator to a shortcut in the timeline?
6c. Can I lazo multiple keyframes?
    Audio While Scrubbing
    7. In Preferences>Audio>Play Audio While Scrubbing I can select that on and off. How can I set a shortcut for that?
Well... that was A LOT! Sorry for so many questions. Hopefully they can help other new users.

    From the top:
1a. No; but you can set numbered markers, for both clips and the sequence.
1b. No; you can delete one or all.
1c. You have to select the clip in order to activate the command.
1d. You can only do this in the Marker dialog.
    2. No direct way to do this. Delete either the portion before or after the edit, and then extend the clip to fill the gap. Clunky, yes.
    3. No, the Track Select tool only operates to the right.
    4. Audio meters are vertical only.
    5. The tab size matches the title of the tab; no way to change this.
    6a. No keyframe shortcut.
6b. It doesn't work in the Timeline panel, but in the Effects Controls panel, you can hold down Shift to snap the CTI as you drag.
6c. You can lasso multiple keyframes in the Effects Controls panel with the standard selection tool, or you can use the Pen tool in the Timeline panel. Just be sure to start within the graphical representation of the clip.
    7. No, it's only a program preference.
Sorry that so many of them are negative! Be sure to file feature requests for anything that you'd like to see: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form

  • CS5.5 & various audio & keyframe & modifier issues

    Hey all,
Can anyone confirm these problems?  Some of this stuff went from working perfect in CS5 and seeming to be way bugged in CS5.5, for me.
    - first, moving keyframes around with the CTRL modifier is bugged.. instead of moving around slower than normal, it bugs out and moves around randomly and can only be increased.  If I try to move a keyframe down with CTRL pressed, it the keyframe moves up instead.
    - something serious is wrong with submixes.  At times it forgets what I did and appears to undo itself without me noticing. When I was working a couple nights ago, I had to redo the same spot of audio keyframing a certain part of a submix like 5 times.  I'd fix it, playback okay good.  Move on and keep working, and later when I go to playback, that part was screwed up again and I'd have to build it again.  |  Next, it likes to just make a bunch of keyframes on it's own at times, adding a bunch of points at random levels and times.  I could often just undo them, but it's still doing something crazy and all by itself.  |  Last, complicating both of these issues, the redraw isn't refreshing properly.. a lot of the time when I noticed the two above issues by playing back, everything looked fine in the timeline, and then zooming or scrubbing over the area, the submix track draws itself and updates what's really there.
    - this one's carried over from CS5--certain audio filters, like Denoise, seem to randomly bug out if a project gets too complicated.  Sometimes during playback, sometimes even during export--and random, not repeatable or predictable--what happens is the volume suddenly goes really low on the track with the filter almost dissappearing.  Simply stopping and playing it again (or exporting it again) works, however quite annoying & killer when an export is screwed up due to the bug.
    - Similarly, sometimes whole tracks or clips dissappear when playing back.  I've never noticed the problem on export, but on a fairly simple commercial project I'm doing, often on playback the music dissappears or doesn't playback at all.  I have the music split into several parts, because I did some fades to adjust how long it is.  When it hits the next 'clip' of the song, it comes plays that back fine.  Again, stopping, resetting the time indicator, and playing back again almost always solves the issue.. kinda of to get it to "catch"/have the magic touch when you playback.. no specific action or behaviour is causing the problem.
Thanks.. let me know if anyone has some suggestions or ideas, will submit to bug report as needed.  I can say the last 2 have been issues for a long time and I've seen them over multiple systems and installations; however I can't say the same for first two, which are CS5.5 introduced.

  • Insert keyframe in classic tween doesn't preserve curve data in CS5?

In earlier versions of Flash (CS3 and CS4) this technique I am about to describe works perfectly. Since Flash CS5 came along, it stopped working. I have no idea how to get it to work again. Here's what I want to accomplish:
Draw a circle shape on the stage, convert it to a movie clip, add a new keyframe on frame 15, while on frame 15 select the circle movie clip and move it a good distance away from its original position, right click on, frame 8 and choose "create classic tween". With the classic tweened timeline selected, select the "edit tween" button in the properties panel to create a custom easing curve. I made my own easing curve that eases in and out to make the result more obvious when I describe what is now broken in Flash CS5. With onion skinning turned on, and the entire range of animation selected, you can easily see what the curve is doing to the movie clip.
Below are screen captures of the timeline, curve editor window with my custom curve, and the resulting circle tweening on the stage with onion skinning turned on.
This next step is where Flash CS5 breaks, and where Flash CS3 and CS4 work.
Select, the 8th frame on the timeline, and insert a keyframe. In older versions of Flash, the custom curve would stay true to what it was before you inserted the keyframe. The curve would be cut at the point where the keyframe was inserted and the first part of the curve would get assigned to the tween from frame 1-8(in this case), and the last chunk of the split curve would get assigned to the frames 8-15(also in this case), thus preserving the original tween. However, this does not happen anymore. Instead, it does half of what it's supposed to do.
Here's what it looks like when you add a keyframe at frame 8 with my example animation:
    - first frame selected, looking at the curve editor window:
    - this is exactly the same curve the entire span had (frame 1 - 15) before I added the keyframe on frame 8. The curve you should be seeing right now is the first half of this curve, not the whole thing. Next, let's look at the last section of the tween:
    - with frame 8 selected, let's look at the curve for this tween:
    - It's exactly what we'd expect, the last half of the original curve. Why didn't this happen to the tween in the first half? I don't know. Here's what the onion skin looks like before and after I insert the keyframe:
These onion skins should look exactly the same (except for the fact that there should be a bright green circle where the new keyframe is, for example, the middle ball, like you see in the second image), but if you look at the second one, you can see that the first half of the tween does not match, and that the last half does. When adding a keyframe anywhere in an existing tween, the original tween should remain preserved - the original curve should get split and distributed correctly to the new tween in front and behind the new keyframe.
I've tried using graphic symbols instead, I've tried playing with sync being on and off, i've tried it with using the built in easing (not custom easing curves), I've tried every method for inserting a keyframe that flash has to offer.. I can't figure out how to make it split the curve correctly. Has anyone else run into this problem? I do a lot of character animation, and this technique was my bread and butter, and now it's gone. I tried adapting to the new motion editor, but for character animation, the classic tween is so much faster.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
    Thanks!
    -Tyson

i reported it for a fix (or, at least, consideration for a fix) for the next version of flash pro which is undergoing beta testing.   that won't show up in the link i gave you which is for non-beta testers.
i don't control whether it will be fixed or not but i know it will be addressed by the adobe engineers.   i've reported about 4 issues that i've encountered via the adobe flash forums that i've reported and that have been fixed in the next version of flash.
it's too soon to tell what they engineers think about this report.  currently, it's listed as "unverified" which means they haven't had time to see if they can duplicate the issue.  we'll see. (i can duplicate it so its status as unverified will change, i'm sure.)
p.s.  "flash authoring" is the place to report "flash pro" requests/bugs.  i don't think it's obvious those are the same and have initiated a request to see if "flash authoring" can be changed to "flash pro".

It works on layer markers and keyframes, but not comp markers. Furthermore, it will also not work, if index items have been scrolled out of view or are shy even if the property streams and their keyframes are otherwise visible. This has never been any different, but it's quite annoying.

  • Keyframes won't select in CS5

    hello,
basically, I'm trying to create a continuous walk loop and the tutorial is telling me to
copy and paste the beginning keyframe, but After Effects won't let me select it to copy and paste it. Any one know why it won't let me select it to copy and paste it. Any one know why it won't let me select it?

Thanks for reporting back what worked.
In case you didn't know, you can use the keyboard shortcut U to show keyframes.

  • Flash CS5: Is there a keyboard shortcut to move to the next keyframe?

I know there are keyboard shortcuts to move to the next and previous frames -- "." and "," but they're not really what I'm referring to. Also, these keys don't necessarily move to the next and previous frames, rather it just seems to move the red playhead instead of the blue highlighted box (which represents the current frame). This is something I'm also confused about with this keyboard shortcut.
I would like to know though, if there is a keyboard shortcut to move to the next keyframe (each frame that begins with a dot). Thanks for your help.

While I am not quite sure what you mean with
"each frame that begins with a dot"
you can use jsfl to program your own macros/shortcuts

  • AE CS5 - Shape Layer - Anchor point moves after position keyframe

I am experiencing unintuitive (to me) behaviour with a brand new shape layer. Here are the steps to reproduce the issue. I have made a screen cap of the problem but can't figure out how to upload it to this forum.
    1. In an existing composition, I create a new Shape Layer
    2. By default the anchor point (center point) is in the dead center of the shape layer. Perfect.
    3. I turn on Position keyframing, and add a position keyframe at my current time
    4. Instantly the anchor point now jumps to the center of the composition, and so now when I scale my shape layer it doesn't scale properly
If I try to use the Pan Behind tool, I get position keyframing. Besides, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, since the anchor point was in the correct spot to start with, and it's only because of this keyframing "bug" that the anchor point jumps.
What am I missing or doing wrong? How can I add a position keyframe to a BRAND NEW LAYER that has no other animation on it, and still keep the anchor point in the dead center of my shape?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Tom

Thanks to Rick and Mylenium for your helpful answers. Rick, I'd prefer not to have to manually reposition, because I'm never going to be as mathematically precise as the software for positioning the Anchor Point dead center.
Using the transform controls on the shape rather than the global container certainly did the trick! You guys are great. Thanks.
    [rant]
In my defense as far as the constant exhortations to "RTFM", we all know that most veteran software users only go to the manual when there's a problem. You also know that Adobe's help system (particluarly in regards to search) has gotten worse over the years, not better. So when I run into a situation like this, I'm going to search through the help for what I believe the problem is: namely "anchor points", "transformations" and "keyframes", and maybe "shape layers". This is a fair amount of research, and it's exactly what I do as my first line of defense.
The second line of defense that most tech savvy folk do, is a Google search; for example: "anchor point moves after position keyframe" or "After Effects shapes layer anchor point moves keyframe" etc. And you spend your time sifting through forums trying to find the relevant answers. I feel that THAT is my true due diligence, rather than reading the F'n Adobe manual that is so very very sparse.
So after my due diligence, I turn to the experts communities, because there I know I will get educated, reliable help within a reasonable turnaround time. And because I myself contribute to these same forums in areas where I have higher than average expertise. The Adobe Forums have proven to be one of the great online resources.
Finally, now that I have a great answer from two knowledgeable experts (thanks again!), I've also enriched the community, because of the way I have crafted my post title, hopefully the next poor ******* who has a similar problem and a similar methodology to finding resolution will stubmle upon my post because I've tried to overload the title with relevant keywords that will generate hits in google.
Through my question, and your accurate answers, the global knowledgebase has improved.
So forgive me for not memorizing the F'n Adobe online help. I go to the resources that are the most useful, expedient, and provide the greatest value as a whole.

  • Keyframing effects on and off cs5

when the lighting effects is on, even with no light selected, the overall brightness of the clip is reduced.  I would like to keyframe the lighting effect per se on and off but this doesn't seem possible.  ??

I'm using Lighting Effects in Premiere Pro CS6 for the first time and am experiencing the same thing rmartin215 describes in his original post.
I noticed after keyframing the Light Type from Spotlight to None, that the overall clip is left darker than when I started. If I toggle the Lighting Effects off, the clip gets bright again -- like the unaltered. Toggle the effect on, and the clip is overall darker.
Bill Hunt's response suggests checking out the Ambient Light parameter, which does default to 20%. When I increase the Ambient Light the clip does brighten.
    Question:
why does the default -- no keyframe applied in or out -- darken the clip?
what should the Ambient Light percentage be set at to bring the clip back to "unaltered"?
    thanks all!

  • Copy Keyframes from Spreadsheet AE CS5.5

I've copied position keyframes from an AE composition to an Excel spreadsheet, did some editing and now I'm trying to copy/paste the new data back into the composition layer.  The "Paste" will not work.  I'm sure it must be something simple, but I cannot come up with it.  Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

You should use a plain text editor.
I forgot to mention that bezier information is not translated outside of AE. You'll end up with straight lines between points. If that's what you are seeing then that is normal. The copied keyframe data should look like the top of this exampls (invisibles showing) not like the bottom example (pasted from a word processor)
Once again, don't expect curved paths or easing to be reproduced or edited. These values do not leave AE. I don't know where they are hidden, but when the clipboard data is sent to another app all interpolation between keyframes is lost.
