CS5.5: Indesign ist not starting

CS5.5: Indesign ist not starting - only Task is listed in Task-Manager but no GUI or Application is running. The other applications of CS5.5 are working normal. Reinstall of CS5.5 - even after deinstall and cleaner-tool - is no solution.

Turning of the AV did not help.
What do you mean with "check the fonts". The other CS5.5 apps are working fine. Sometimes indesign is starting well the first time after reboot/reinstall.
Best regards Alex

  • Photoshop CS5 and CS6 does not start. Windows 7

I am using Photoshop CS5 as well as CS6, 64-bit on Windows 7. Since the last few days, I noticed that Photoshop would take a very long time to start (earlier it used to start within few seconds). Today, I found that both the Photoshop versions do not start at all. Nothing happens when I click the short-cut on the Task Bar. Neither do they start through the Start Menu. Why does this happen and what is the solution?

Have you tried using the task manager to see if Photoshop is hung and look at your windows reliability history to see if Photoshop CS5 an CS6 are crashing?

  • Adobe CS4 Indesign will not start on Mac OSX 10.9

    Hi everybody,
I recently ported my Adobe CS from an older Mac to a new machin under OSX 10.9. (Mavericks), i.e. i installed the suite from the originals DVDs. No errors were reported. I checked that all programs I need should be campatible. Acrobat Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator run fine. Indesign, however, does not start but signals an "Error 5". No further explanation. What could possibly be wrong?

  • Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.

This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so.  It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2).  Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed.  At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed.  Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen.  When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit.  Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates.  Then I found this thread here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
    Close all Adobe applications
Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder  in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    < end quote
Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2.  InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
Then I found another article on the adobe site.  I am just quoting the part performed  and which ultimately did the trick.
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
    3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
    4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
    5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
    < end quote
So, this solved the problems at least for the time being.  Hope this helps someone else a bit.

Illustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway.

  • InDesign does not start after installing it first time due to missing plug ins ("Zusatzmodule")

    Hello,
I was using up to now InDesign CS3, but I bought the upgrade to InDesign CS 6.
After installing the new version I tried to start it, but during the start it complains about missing plugins and stops.
So, I can not run CS 6.
The missing modules are: SVG Export.apln and Dynamicdosuments.rpln.
What can I do to make CS 6 running?
    Thank you,
    Gunnar

    Hello Mylenium,
    thank you for your answer.
I have to admit, that unfortunately I dont understand the reply. I was uninstalling, running the Adobe CS cleaner tool for CS 6, reinstalling (as suggested in other entryies of the forum). No improvement.
Question A: Do I have to run the cleaner tool for all CS including CS 3? I am a bit afraid of side effects and have nothing running afterwards. Since nobody confirmed in the forum that this will help I dont dare to play around.
Question B: Coming back to your proposal, what do you mean by proper admin privileges? I am the only user on this laptop and never did something to any admin configurations.
Finally, I installed CS 6 on another laptop. This works. However, this one I dont want or can't work with for other reasons.

  • Adobe Indesign will not start-Runtime Error

    Hi,
I recently bought Creative Suites Design Premium CS5 and I am having a problem with indesign. The program will not launch. This message shows up The application has requested the Runtime to terimate in unusual way. Does anyone know how to fix this? I am using Windows XP-32 bit, and  service pack 3.
    Thanks for the help,
    Athena

Uninstalling InDesign and then installing InDesign should fix the problem.

  • CS5.5 InDesign will not open but says "quit unexpectedly"

I own a copy of the Adobe creative suite. All programs have been working fine except for InDesign. Within the last week, every time I attempt to open the program, it does not open and gives the following error message: "InDesign quit unexpectedly." See screen shot below of message details. The only think I can think of that might have effected it, is the free fonts I've downloaded recently, but that is not effect this same set up on my MAC desktop and it is not effecting my other Adobe programs, like Photoshop for example.
    I have restarted me computer.
I have held down shift, control, option, & command while launcing InDesign and deleted InDesign Preference Files.
I have uninstalled & reinstalled InDesign, the entire Adobe Suite, and every since Adobe program for a total of three times.
I have also followed this link's instructions: Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6, HOWEVER, when I ran the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool (Step 3), there were no files to select from for cleaning. I selected "all", and proceeded, although there was nothing to "clean". I was also unable to follow step 4. "Verify that the Adobe CC Cleaner Tool completed successfully" as I did not understand the instructions. I opened TextEdit, but did not know how I was supposed to open /Users[user name]/Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.log.
Please HELP! I've spend hours and am no further in figuring this out!

  • Installed Adobe CS 3. InDesign will not start : why unexpected quit

This post follows up with a recent post on a powerpc g4 with I/O error. Thought had gotten it resolved with a new hd cable and another hard drive. Installed OS 10.4 and other programs that were on my other hd. All program start ok other than InDesign in Adobe CS 3. When launching InDesign a box comes up stating that the program had an unexpected quit and asked to send the information. I click on the data report it indicates "crash exception: unmapped memory exception". I have reinstalled from the cd several times and get the same results. This disk was used to install on this powerpc before so I think the disk is ok. I went to Disk Utility and ran "verify disk" and indicated was ok. Ran "verify permissions" and a bunch were corrected. Then reset with cmd-opt-p-r and restarted. Went back to Disk Utility and ran "verify disk" and "verify permissions" and again many permissions were incorrect and said were corrected. What will I need to do to get InDesign to start?

  • InDesign will not start up!

I recently bought InDesign and downloadaed online via a link. I then installed via th eusual process and I believe registered correctly.
The problem I hav eis that when I launch from my desktop th esoftware opens but then closes straight away.
The laptop i am using is via our local I.T systems and have had them look at it for any issues. They cannot see anything from their end.
    Please help!!

We've seen quite a few cases where the installer fails to set the permissions correctly on the folders where ID needs to write the preference files. To get the paths to these folders see Replace Your Preferences

  • CS3-Some applications will not start, including Photoshop

I have Creative Suite 3 Design Premium running on a new laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1. I bought the laptop and installed CS3 about 3 weeks ago. Everything ran fine for a while but now I am unable to open Photoshop, Illustrator or InDesign. I can run Acrobat and Bridge but Illustrator and InDesign do not start at all. Photoshop tries to start, but then disappears before it is fully loaded. I've seen posts where there have been issues with the installation failing to load, but my install went fine. Today I re-installed and repaired with the same result. I have not yet uninstalled and re-installed.
My laptop has 3.0 GB memory and 230 GB hard drive. Any advice will be appreciated

Now today I'm finally getting an error message that I hope will get me closer:
"Licensing for this product has stopped working.
You cannot use this product at this time. You must repair the problem by uninstalling and then reinstalling this product or contacting your IT administrator or Adobe customer support for help."
I followed http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401528&sliceId=2 as far as I could, but when I get to resetting the permissions, the steps shown don't match the dialog boxes I am getting and I don't want to make things worse. So that's where I'm at. If anyone knows of a more accurate list of steps for resetting permissions, please let me know.

  • InDesign CS5 and 5.5 does not start

I have to support a lot of different users with CS3, CS4, CS5 and CS5.5. Now I set up all this product on a brand new Mac, OSX 10.9.2 Retina, but they do not start properly (nothing happens). What is the problem?

Well, I copied my previous Mac (Mavericks), where I  have them all running parallell. None started. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled 5.5. Did not start! When I double click the icon nothing happens! No message, no log.

  • I need to make a pdf document, made in photoshop, 'page turn' and then add it to my website. I know I can do this in indesign but indesign will not open pdf files for some inexplicable reason. Any ideas how I can do it without completely starting again?

I need to make a pdf document, already made in photoshop, 'page turn' and then add it to my website as an e-brochure. I know I can do this in indesign but indesign will not open pdf files for some inexplicable reason. Any ideas how I can do it without completely starting again?

    Hello waitingone,
please try this (all terms are translated from my German programs to my best knowledge):
    1. Did the creator of the pdf file enable the import options?
    2. See import options: choose an other visibility option for your layer.
    3. Let you show the import options and click into one with a black background and try these out (often a gray is selected).
    4. See trimming: try the different modes there. Often works: "Media".
    5. Is the pdf file (eg from Word) correctly created?
    6. Is the PDF file protected? >>> no import possible.
    7. If that does not help, store the pdf file in Acrobat, repair possible errors, run the PDF Optimizer before placing in InDesign.
    Good luck!

  • I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file

I am running InDesign CS5.5 and trying to open an In Design File but getting an error message. " Cannot open the file "PDavidLCover.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file me be open in another application."Please help I really need to get this file open.

Since you've shown us the folder contents it's a good bet it isn't in use (no lock file). And it doesn't look like the file is mis-named as there doesn't seem to be anything else there that would be the .indd file (but just in case, open it in TextEdit and paste the first few lines here so we can see what the file header says), so the most likely case is the file is damaged. Is that on a removable device of some sort?
You can try the tool at Repair corrupt InDesign Adobe files on Mac OS X  or send me a link to the file by private message and I'll try the recovery tool I have for Windows.

  • Image Processor does not start through Bridge CS5

Image Processor does not start through Bridge CS5, it starts only PS and nothing happen. I do not know, how to repair it.

Most likely you do not have the startup files checked.
In Bridge go to edit/preferences/startup scripts.  Make sure you have a check mark for Bridge and Photoshop.  Without that they can't talk to each other.
