CS5.5 installation from disc, error(20), Windows 8.1

I am trying to install CS 5.5 from the installation disc on my new laptop (running Windows 8.1) but I keep getting the following error message: "The Setup encountered an error(20) during install. Please restart the machine and try again."
Restarting the machine multiple times has had no effect. Other forum discussions indicate that error(20) usually means that the downloaded files were not downloaded or extracted properly, but this is directly from the CD (which I successfully used on my old computer), so I don't know what the deal is.

Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files
1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.

PSE10 installation from disc 2 fails.

Each time I attempt to install PSE10 from disc 2 I get an error message saying "This application package could not be opened. Contact the vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package."

I’m using Windows 7, so I tried to install Photoshop 10 using Disc 2. Anyway, the problem was resolved. When the Photoshop install failed I decided to try to install Premiere. That worked flawlessly so I tried again to install Photoshop and it also installed without a hitch. The solution seems to be to install Premiere 10 first!

I've searched the forum, but none of it seems to help. I tried external usb keyboard, it restarts the whole installation. I had no option to choose between fat32 or NTFS. I was trying to partition a 50 gb on 500 gb hdd.
Is there any solution to this?

I purchased a new notebook with Windows 7 in October. During the first weeks I uninstalled McAfee and replaced the harddrive. Since November Windows Update fails with error messages and defender does not start anymore. I made several virus scans (complete) with multiple antivirus programs but nothing showed up.
Since it took my days to install various software, I do not want to re-install W7. I also have no good backup that I could restore.
I am really surprised that there is not even a single entry regarding the error code in the Microsoft Knowledge base or elsewhere.
I really would appreciate help.

I hit this same problem... I spent days trying to figure out what went wrong. MS advise of doing; Windows7 re-installs, BIOS/firmware updates, drivers changed, etc etc etc.

For me, I hit all the symptoms everyone else hit and thanks to humphrey for his find. I just wish Microsoft/Intel would get together and fix this Windows 7 issue between SW/HW; Large Drive Sizes, Licensing/Permissions, Flash Memory, ATA vs. ACHI, BIOS, etc.
There's been an incredible amount of loss productivity, resources, and costs incurred on this one ISSUE by everyone involved.

InDesign CS5 Installer will not load on Windows 8

I am trying to install InDesign CS5 on my Samsung Windows 8.
It seems to hang the computer, bringing everything to a crawl for about 5-10 minutes.
No installation screen ever shows up.
Even any attempt to show the CD in File Explorer hangs things up.
Other CD's work fine in the drive.
Any clues?

When did you install Windows 8 on this laptop? Was Windows 8 pre-installed when you purchased it? Have you run all the updates by navigating to Windows updates from the control panel? If not, I would recommend you to first install all available updates (specifically the security and .NET packages from Windows updates). Reboot your computer after installing the security updates and then try to launch the installer and check for any issues.

CS4 Design Standard, installation from disc fails

Installation disc spins after clicking autorun, the nothing happens. While "nothing" happens, 25% of CPU is takenup with this activity.
Windows 7 on brand new Vaio Z laptop, plenty of space, plenty of muscle. I have previously installed (and removed) on PC with no problems.
Suggestions?

Copy contents to hard drive, or install after the copy is done and setup is started?
I will GUESS that a Windows Explorer of everything on a DVD to a hard drive location should take no more than 15-20 minutes... maybe less, if you have a fast DVD drive or maybe more if you have an old, slow drive
2 hours to install from DVD may be a bit long... but again, not knowing the speed of your drive, there is no way to tell if that "estimate" is going to be accurate or not
Installing from a hard drive location, after the copy from DVD is done, will be "somewhat" faster than directly from a DVD, due to the faster read speed of a hard drive... but do remember there is a LOT going on to install a large program
Also, the installer "estimate" is just that... an estimate... so if you really care, write down the start time and then the end time and come back to let us know the actual amount of time and a list of everything you installed

CRM 2015 installation hangs without errors on Windows Server 2012 installed in a VM

I have installed a Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 on a VM using VMware Player and then installed Dynamics CRM 2013, working out all the configuration problems.
The installation hanged once without errors and when I tried it again it was installed, no problems. Dynamics CRM 2013 works without issue.
Then I copied the machine, uninstalled the Dynamics CRM 2013 and started installing CRM 2015. However this time without errors the installation hangs even though I tried more than 5 times.
There are no errors, installation program is not unresponsive and task manager shows nothing out of the ordinary.
I have also tried this on multiple physical and virtual PCs to no avail.

Try to Delete the registry files of CRM before you start the installation : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMSCRM

If you get an unhandled error message when rebooting your laptop after installing SCM v10.013.03016 check to see if you have Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable installed on you PC.
If not, download from Microsoft.
I installed version 11.0.51106.1 and SCM seems to be working fine now (apart from my bluetooth which keeps dying every few boots and is probably not related to SCM itself).

Office 2013 Service Pack 1 installation causes shim error in Windows 8.1 Enterprise

On a clean install of Windows 8.1 Enterprise and Office 2013 I installed RSAT and everything works fine initially. When I install the Office 2013 Server Pack 1 update (categorized as an "Important" update) I then get the following
errors when attempting to open Server Manager:
(I attempted to include an image of the error and a link to the KB article but it wouldn't allow that saying my account must be verified although there appears to be no way to actually verify my account. The "Verify Your Account 13" thread
doesn't help by the way.)

The KB page refers to three different SHIM errors. The second two don’t apply to this scenario but the first seems to. Unfortunately the info on this one is:
“The app is not configured in a way that makes it possible to determine the appropriate version of the .NET Framework runtime.
You can't fix the configuration problem yourself. Contact the app vendor to resolve the issue.”
I've re-installed Windows twice and have been able to replicate the problem each time (Clean Win 8.1 install, Office 2013 install, RSAT, everything works, install Office 2013 SP1).
It says in the KB to "Contact the app vendor". In this case that would be Microsoft.

1. What is you install W 8.1 ENT + all important updates -> Office 2013 > Office 2013 SP1 > RSAT ?
2. Make sure that .NET 3.51 and 4.51 are installed.
3. Make sure that there is no coincidence with issues

ODS Installation from BC Error

Hi,
We are trying to install ODS 0PY_PP_C1 from Business content. It gives me following errors .
1. "Error while Creating Export DataSource and dependent Objects"
2. "Data source 80PY_PP_C1 not maintained in BWSYSTEMNAME version A."
And we have tried with generating custom ODS as well ,but was not successful.(Same Error Messages)
We feel that somewhere there is default system setting, and system is taking source system as bw system itself instead of R/3 . So its trying to create export data source. But Generation of export datasource is not needed in our scenario.
Please let us know how do we solve above said issues.

A characteristic involved is active but it is using new or inactive attributes.
Characteristics involved are all characteristics used in the ODS object.
Solution
Check all characteristics involved as described in the following:
Check the Compounding and Attributes tabs in the characteristics maintenance.
All characteristics here must be active. This is displayed by a green icon.
If this is not the case for a characteristic involved (a gray icon is displayed on one of the two tabs), activate the characteristic involved. This also activates the inactive dependent characteristics.
After you have checked and repaired all the characteristics involved as described above, the loading/maintenance of master data should work again.

Trouble installing CS6 from disc

Hi,
I'm trying to install CS6 from disc onto my Windows Vista 64 bit laptop. There doesn't seem to be a Setup.exe file? Has anyone experience this problem and have a solution?
I've tried downloading CS6 from Adobe and enter my serial number from my box. I get a message stating my serial number is invalid. Why is that?

According to the Adobe website, CS6 products do not support Vista
