CS5.5 on Macbook Pro (Win or Mac)

I'm a PC user due for major upgrade. Thinking about maybe switching to Mac. Macbook Pro or iMac.
If I switch to Mac I could run Mac version of PPro OR Windows version on Windows with Parallels Desktop.
Any comments/suggestions?

I was pondering this same issue.
Harm's reply is somewhat what I perceive Macs as well....with the exception that I've never thought of any computer as "sexy"... but hey, to each their own.
Pro's -
- You can have Mac and Windows OS's running on one machine. Bootcamp is far better than any other "virtual / emulation" software running Windows.
- Thunderbolt; the speed is impressive...at least on paper. (Eventually, it will make it's way to the Windows world)
Con's -
- No HARDWARE acceleration for MPE in PPro

I agree with the first answer posted to your question. Also, I have a 13" MBP, and I don't believe there is any way to upgrade the video card, but it doesn't seem to be a sticking point. RAM and hard drive access speed is where you will get your best performance upgrade. Your model, I think only goes to 8GBs RAM at this point, but if I'm wrong, max out it's RAM if you can afford to. Also pickup either a firewire hard drive with RAID 1 or a Thunderbolt drive for field use. You don't mention if you are dumping the footage to your internal drive or an external one. Going external with RAID will allow you to dump your cards in the field. I carry my RAID drive with me on location in a foam lined travel case.
Your desktop still should have the best video card and other accessories.
I am not a fan of transcoding beyond standard Adobe internals, though it depends on your final product. I've done tons of transcoding in the past, and it often doesn't help with the issues you mention. Bottom line is you are pushing a lot of data into the CPU and video card. RAM and drive throughput will help while you are in the field.
If you find you need a better video card, you might need to buy a higher end Mac or maybe consider a switch to Windows. Lots more choices of video cards in that world. HP, Dell and Lenovo all have great field production units for Premiere. I also own one of them (a Dell) for remote office work. Was much cheaper than buying a similarly configured Mac, but I like the Mac for other reasons.

Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the computer wont connect to networks. I see you have used network diagnostic. I would recommend that you read this article, there are a lot of other things you can do in this article that may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

Try these two steps first.
Get the Original Installation disk and boot the MBP holding down the C key. When you get to the point where you see a menu bar on the top of the display, select UTILITIES. From the drop down menu select DISK UTILITY>FIRST AID. Run verify and repair.
See if there is any improvement.
Try a Safe Boot:

This might indicate that third party applications are an issue.

Unless you transfer the files from Setup Assistant, Migration Assistant creates a new user with the data.
To transfer the files to your first user, you have to log on this new user, and copy all your files to /Users/Shard folder. This is a folder where you can put the files you want to share between two or more users, and all users can read and write in it.
After copying the files, go to your first user, open /Users/Shared folder, and copy the files to your user folders. If you migrated applications, you must know that they are stored in a common folder (/Applications), so you don't have to transfer them. To open /Users/Shared folder, open Go menu (in the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type the folder

leroydouglas is correct, DO NOT install Norton or any other commercial anti virus software. They all work very poorly with Macs. If you insist on AV software, consider Sophos, it is free.

There is no license required for iWeb. Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

You recently updated iTunes to v.11.4? This message has popped up on many a Mac screen when this version was first made available, because this kext was obviously faulty.
You should try to download iTunes 11.4 again from Apple's website: the new version bears the same name, but this kernel extension has been updated, and the issues it was causing are now a thing of the past.
Should solve your problem, too...

Macbook pro versus new Mac pro for editing

I have been using my Macbook pro to edit some video I shot on a Canon 5D MarkII. It can be slow...
I was contemplating getting a Mac Pro and tried to find some good info on speed difference between a Macbook pro and a Mac Pro. Obviously RAM, hard drive space will make a difference but I would like to get a general idea. I love the portability of my Macbook pro but could I dramatically increase speed in editing with a Mac Pro? Any good info or links with good info will help!

Are you storing your camera footage on the computer's internal system disk?
That will cause problems right away. Your internal drive has plenty to do running the operating system and applications. Asking it to also jump around reading HD footage is overload.
You should at the very least invest in an external FireWire 800 drive for your footage. Depending on your MBP model, you might also have an Express Card slot. This will enable you to use much faster eSATA drives with the appropriate adapter card.
The advantage of the Pro tower is that you can install up to 4 internal SATA drives (up to 8 with a special kit), PCIe cards, dedicated capture cards etc.

Outlook is an email client and that does not indicate if your email is POP or IMAP. If you have an IMAP email account, all of your emails actions will automatically sync across your devices. If you have POP, it does not work that way.
If you are asking if you can transfer the current emails on the Mac onto the iPad, no you cannot, unless the email is an IMAP account and they can download onto the iPad again from the server.

Installed win 7 on macbook pro, but want mac OS on it

A friend got a macbook pro with win 7 not dual just single win os installed on it, we want to install a mac os on it so we got a mac os x tiger ver 10.4 and the mac does not recognize the installation disc, then we managed to get a copy of mac os x 10.7 but when the litle wheel starts spinning we get a error icon on the screen any help, anyone as of what should we do....... when press the option at boot up time and all we get is the hdd that says windows and thats it... I like to help my friend but don't have enough knowledge to have this mac running.. when we press the C key it boots from the optic drive but like I mentioned before it just spins and get an error icon in the middle of the screen..

I bought a dvd drive at a swapmeet back in cali some time ago, and it came with a 10.7.0 disc... we gave it another try to the 10.7 disc and so far we got to the installation part so far we can read that we have 17 min. left for the installation to finish but it's been at the same screen for the last 15 min and haven't pass by the 17 min... anyway I will post any updates as the installation progress or fails... .....SIG what would you like to know about the cpu?
I got the installer reg. open and at one of the last lines it says:
