Cs5.5 out performs cs6...why?

Hi all,
I just discovered something strange tonight. I had to drop a blu-ray render (.m4v)  into cs6 timeline.
I had a very hard time playing it in ANY res. ie; 1/2 res, full, etc..
I dropped it into cs5.5 and i got fluid playback in FULL RES!
So, how can this be? How can cs5.5 out perform or better yet, how come cs6 is slower than cs5.5?
My pc is an older quad core 6600 ,6 ram gtx 470 system. but again, cs5.5 plays it great where as cs6 is  extremely jumpy at 1/4 res
Thanks,
Lou

I have the same issue. I just read this and updated my driver. CS6 is slower in every aspect of editing with the exact same hardware configuration.
If I drag the CTI from the end of a sequence to the beginning and then hit spacebar (play) it will start playing somewhere in the middle of the sequence and not where I dragged it to. Any movement of the CTI and you have to give PP a second or two before hitting play.
In CS5, I could play real time 1080 24p footage (time lapse clouds for example) at 1000% speed without issue but now it will only play for a second or two before choking. Even though it has a yellow bar it must be rendered to play smoothly.
It's just not as quick as it was. Hopefully, that will be fixed in the next update!

  • Why does one set of clients out perform another?

    Greetings all -
When I execute sqlplus using this query "select * from SYS.COL$ where rownum<=50000;" from our linux client it, takes 12 seconds. When I execute it from any of several of our solaris clients it takes close to a minute. So the linux client will run the above SQL faster than all the solaris clients by a multiple of 4 or 5 times. The linux (el x86-64) data servers and the sun clients are all in the same room. Some of the solaris clients are virtual (zones) on a SUN t5220 box. Other solaris clients are physical boxes (sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245).
The 2 linux dataservers are HP ProLiant DL380s. When one of these is used as a client and runs the SQL against the same database that the solaris clients are targeting it out performs the solaris clients significantly.
So allow me to restate - when I run the query from dataserver_2 against the target database on dataserver_1, it takes 12 seconds. When I execute the query from any solaris client against the target database on dataserver_1, it takes over 50 seconds.
We've also tested with a "back door" in place, putting the solaris client on the same network as the dataservers. This didn't make any difference. I've also tested by making changes to the kernal settings on the solaris client, bumping up the max-shm-memory parm from the default up to 7g and this also didn't help. The linux client which performs well is also a dataguard standby server. Why am I seeing such a difference in elapsed times to run this query - depending on which client I run it from? All the solaris clients query elapsed times are consistently around 55 seconds. When it runs from another linux client in a four miles away, it takes 38 seconds. What can I do to improve the performance for these solaris clients?
A side note: running an "ssh scp" against a 1-gb file also takes inordinately long when the source or target is one of our solaris clients. Our UNIX support tells us this just indicates scp doesn't work so great on these clients.

The above pattern is repeated for 150,000 lines of trace output. There are no series of repeated "message from client" lines which might represent repeat ACKing if I understood you correctly.
The "good" trace output file has 150,099 lines and "bad" trace output file has 150,092 lines. No extra ACKs in the bad - just much longer "SQL*Net message from client" elapsed times.
I've just tested with arraysize set to 50000. No gain.
I also set SDU to 32768 in both the client tnsnames file and the listener/sid_list. No gain.
Thanks all for your helpful feedback.

  • What is the speed/performance comparison between Soundbooth CS5 and Audition CS6?

Obviously, I don't need to be convinced about the difference. However, in demonstrating and working with Audition I didn't take a note of these speed differences. Does anyone have this information for business justification reasons?
I am looking for the speed of a sound file (*.wav, approximately 1-5minutes in length) rendering in Soundbooth CS5 and Audition CS6 as well as a comparison of doing 10 files (approximately 1-5 minutes in length each) in Soundbooth and in Audition CS6 (using batch processing) to *.mp3 with basic processes applied. Basic processes that I am checking are Noise Reduction, Trimming front and end silences, Normalization, and rendering to *.mp3 (from *.wav). If anyone can do this for me, that would be awesome!!

    travis_smith_ wrote:
Hello _durin_, yes all those are great arguments that I've already included; however, some people like to use accurate measures/times/processes...they want numbers.
So, do you (or anyone else) happen to know the render engine speed of 1 file in Soundbooth v. 1 file in Audition?
What Durin hasn't perhaps made quite clear is that you'd have to do this on just one machine to come up with any comparisons at all - and if that machine isn't identical to yours, then it's going to be meaningless anyway; some of the processes (like NR) will vary considerably between two different machines, even running the same software. There is no way on earth that this would be an accurate comparison, and I don't think it would convince anybody who actually understood what was at issue. This is the politest way of saying that it's not going to happen... and if Durin, as Audition's Product Owner, isn't prepared to commit himself, then nobody's going to.... BUT:
Now I am moving towards the argumentation that it should replace everyone's Soundbooth, which is why I need the justification. I would run the tests myself over the current set of files, but with the license gone, I cannot.
Your real justification isn't going to be based on anything like dodgy process measurements at all, but this: Soundbooth is discontinued - there's very little, if any, support for it now, and there will be no updates to cope with OS changes, etc. Audition, on the other hand, is a long-term, well-supported software product that's under active development, and this is clearly intended to continue. Also there are business package deals to be done (like active subscriptions, etc) that simply weren't available to Soundbooth users, which companies can use far more flexibly. I think you'll find that arguements like this will cut far more mustard than any odious comparisons of 'speed' will.

  • CS5.5 to CS6 free upgrade - Why can't I get a disk?

I have been trying to convince someone in support at Adobe that we would like a hard copy disk of the CS5.5 to CS6 free upgrade, however they keep sending me a link to Creative Cloud even though I have talked to customer support until I am blue in the face that our IT department wants a hard copy to use for my download?    We purchased the hard copy of CS5.5.   Can I pay the $20 charge for the hard copy?

I purchased 5.5 and am looking to get the complimentary CS6 upgrade.   Customer service for some odd reason do not want to discuss how to obrtain a disk.  Last time they sent me a link to Creative Cloud ...... for what reason I do not know, except maybe this is where you can download from the internet.   Our download is too slow and I need a disk.

  • Audition CS6: Why no more 64 bit version of Audition?

Audition CS6: Why no more 64 bit version of Audition?  There used to be 64 bit Audition in CS5.5.

The biggest hurdle is plug-ins. If they could figure out a reliable way to wrap 32-bit plug-ins for 64-bit platforms, they'd probably make the transition more quickly, but a lot of the plug-in developers have been slow to make the jump. I imagine Audition will be 32-bit for at least one more release.

I had the same problem and it was driving me nuts.  Thanks to conradchavez.com Blog.
Multiple displays: If you put panels (including the Tools panel) on a secondary display and then switch applications, those panels may snap back to the primary display when you switch back. To avoid this, open System Preferences, click Mission Control, and turn off Displays Have Separate Spaces. Mavericks ships with that option on, so if you want to position Adobe application panels and windows on multiple displays you should turn off that option.
You will have to log out before it works.  It worked for me.
    Tankyou very mutch!!!!
    Now is all perfectly funzionally!!!!
    Ri- Tankyou!!!

  • Copy and paste from CS5.5 to CS6 help

I work at a newspaper and we recently upgraded from CS5.5 to CS6.
When I open my CS5.5 documents to copy and paste type it shows up like a graphic in CS6.
If I make a text box and paste the type into it, it is unformatted.
If I copy and paste an image from CS5.5 and paste it into my CS6 InDesign document it appears, but not as a linked file.
Why would this be different now with CS6? It is really a hinderance considering we use parts of ads over and over again in the newspaper industry.
    Thank you for the help.

    Hi there.
I haven't upgraded to CS6 yet, but I'm having this very problem with InDesign CS5.5. If I copy and paste the box in InDesign - vector or text - it pastes as an image. If I copy/cut selected text with text tool - even if it's copying and pasting in the SAME text box - it pastes unformatted. This happens across all documents, but most irritatingly when working in the same InDesign document.
Checked all preferences in InDesign and even cross referenced it with another Mac with the same version, but every setting was the same. Adobe won't help unless it's CS6 annoyingly, well they will if I pay!
Other than removing and reinstalling the whole package, I can't think of what else to do!

  • Best way to transfer settings from CS5.5 to CS6

I am trying out CS 6 Creative Cloud and want to copy my settings from CS5.5. Is there any easier way to do this than re-creating them through the UI? It would take such a long time to re-enter my preferences, shortcut keys, search queries, window layouts, &c, manually that the trial period would be over before I finish!

Look at Replace Your Preferences for a list of things you should be able to back up and transfer easily. The only thing that might casue a problem that I can think of is custom shortcut sets, but I think CS5.5 and CS6 are similar enough that they won't casue abberant behavior (the same was not true going from CS4 into CS5).

  • CS Design & Web Premium Upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 on DVD

I would like to order a CS Design & Web Premium Upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 (int. english, MAC) in the Adobe Shop.
I have a really low internet connection and can not download 4+GB, it does not work. Even files over 20MB are pure horror.
So why I can not order a DVD, I don't understand what's the problem to sell a DVD to customers?
    Regards,
    Bodo

Is it one file which I can do on an USB stick, and that file is ready for install?
Can I also burn it to DVD, or the file is too big to burn to DVD?

  • Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Can one upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 as a Retail Product or does one need to do it as a Volume License?

Well, depends on what your CS5.5 actually is. If it came as a volume license, the upgrade terms would be determined by the specifics of the volume licensing model chosen... Anyway, that's way too specific. Contact sales support by phone or web chat to haggle things out.

  • If I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 will I have to pay again for upgrading to CSCC?

If I upgrade from CS5.5 to CS6 will I have to pay again for upgrading to CSCC?
I have CS5.5 and my current clients have CS6.
If I upgrade to CSCC will I have any trouble saving back my files to CS6? Are there any know issues that occur when saving back to CS6 or earlier?

Why would you update to CS6 when you can go directly to CC.  And while you wouldn't pay another upgrade amount you would have to pay the monthly subscription whether you upgrade to CS6 or not.
And you shouldn't have problems saving your files in a form that is readable by CS6.  You wouldn't be able to make further adjustments on items that are not in CS6 ie. Shake reduction, however the adjustments you make in CC will be visible.

  • Indesign upgrading from CS5.5 to Cs6

    Hi,
How can I upgrade my current version of Indesign CS5.5 to CS6? I don´t manage to open files created with CS6 version. Does it existe a kind of patch?
I have juste updated the CS5.5 version online but I don´t find the way to upgrade it.
    I am working on PC.

Just to repeat what you’ve already been told. You are affectively buying a version that is already two versions out of date. There’s very little benefit of going from CS5.5 to CS6 at this point.

  • CS5 file hanging CS6 when modifying styles

    Windows 7, InDesign CS6 8.01
I was working on a file of about 91 pages with a lot of tables in CS5 last week. We just got updated to CS6 this week, and the file seemed to be working fine. I decided I wasn't happy with the look of the tables, so I went in to the table style, changed the colour of the row fills, and as soon as I clicked on "Preview" I got the spinning blue circle. Only way out was to end program.
Since then I have tried the following:
    * Change colour without previewing (hangs)
    * Re-import CS5 document into CS6, try again (hangs)
    * Open file in CS5 on another computer (as it was uninstalled on mine) and try the same thing (fine)
    * Export it out to IDML from CS5, and import that into CS6 (fine). Try changing style (hangs)
    * Try changing the colour of a font in a paragraph style (hangs)
    * Try changing the font of a paragraph style (fine)
    * Open the CS6 document that was casuing all the trouble on another machine with CS6 (doesn't display, then hangs)
    * Open the CS5 IDML on the other computer (fine) then try the table style change (hangs)
    * On the original computer, re-import the table styles from a previous version (fine) then attempt change (hangs)
    * Duplicate the table style, change the colour in the style (fine, but not applied to anything), then delete original style, replacing with new one (hangs)
I'm at a loss here, as my usual solution to weirdness is to go the IDML route as I thought that re-built the file anew. Doesn't seem to want to play along though.
    Any suggestions?

Thanks for your reply Peter. I hadn't thought about the tagged text route, probably because I've never had a use for tagged text!
I gave it a go, exporting the whole of the troublesome section as tagged text. Placing it back in to a new InDesign document with automatic text flow on, I got the same crash/spinny-wheel-causing-me-to-end-task. I tried it again, but this time turned off autoflow and did it page by page, noting the point that it would crash. Next time, I cut out the table that the crash would occur on when I got to it (the crash would happen as soon as I clicked the out port), pasted it on the side, made a note of where it went and continued to place the rest of the story without a hitch. I could change the table style in this document no problem.
I pasted the troublesome table back in, tried to change the table style and got the crash. Right, getting somewhere.
I opened up the previous template, and put back in the section that wasn't causing the problems (everything without the dodgy table). I could change the style fine. I then made a new document, and pasted only the bad table, figuring that it would crash when I went to change the style. However, I could change the table style just fine!
So, figuring that it was all ok now, I copied the table, pasted it in with everything else, went to modify the style and... spinny ball.
Finally, I converted the table to text, pasted it into the main document, and converted it back to a table. So far, so good. I'll update again if I run into any more problems.
Realistically I could have set the thing again in the time it's taken me to troubleshoot this, but I'm a little scared that this happened at all with a document that works just fine in CS5!

You can copy over the CS5 cursors to CS6.  It does help a little.  Just make a back up of the existing before over writing.  You will have to change the name of a few.

  • Saving out of CS6

Since I upgraded from CS5 to Creative Cloud with CS6, I have trouble saving files out of CS6.  The app will actually save the file, but the progress bar hangs up at about 75% complete, with a spinning beach ball - I have to force quit the app, then, the app won't work again until I restart the computer.  This is getting OLD - I work from home and need these programs to WORK.

Which application are you trying to save a file with?
