CS5.5 page palette - , instead of - between pages

Hello,
I am a newbie.
I made a masterpage A-PL (see also inserted figure). I inserted a new page before page 2 and in the tool palette there is a "," instead of a "-" between page 1 and 2.
I already copied the text (great table with cross-references), inserted a new "empty" page based on A-PL master page and then I also saw that there was no link between the new page (1) and the second page. I manually added the link between the 2 pages. Strange that there is no automatic link between these 2 pages. On the Masterpage A-PL there is an link between the left and the right side.
I hope that someone can help me.

Normally, we work with Framemaker. The first page of the body text in the book file must start Left. In indesign is that not possible. There is an procedure to start it left (add a page before the page that must start left, disable "allow document pages to shuffle", delete the inserted page, and then the page (who first started at right, will start at left)).
I did this procedure but I remarked that there is a "," on the marked blue pages in the capture instead of a "-".
It was also strange that when I inserted the blank page with the same section numbering and same master page setting, the link between these pages where gone. I have to set the link manually.
I hope it is clear now...

I don't know why I didn't think of trashing the preferences, but it worked.
(For those looking for how to trash prefs, just go to Users/XXXYOUR_LOGIN_NAMEXXX/Library
/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/10.0/ and delete the file there (or rename if you'd rather) AE will rebuild it on startup.)

Upgrade only Indesign CS5.5 to CS6 (instead of whole Design Premium)

is it possible to upgrade only my Indesign CS5.5 to CS6, instead of upgrading my whole Design Premium Suite?
I purchased the indesign-upgrade, but now I can't install it.

Yes. Go here, Creative Suite 6, and select the Buy option next to Photoshop CS6 then change the option for "I want to buy" from Full to Upgrade. It's $199 for the non-Extended version and $399 for Extended upgrades from CS5.

CS5 Multiple page sizes leaves a gap between pages on a spread

I'm laying out a 6pp DL leaflet.
I've set up page 1 as 97mm wide, pages 2 & 3 as 100mm wide. This is the usual way to set up a 6pp DL, only before CS 5 you would have to do it the long way round.
Only it seems when you have different page sizes in a spread it leaves a gap between the pages when there is an alternative page size, rather than butting the pages together.
How can I get rid of the gap between pages in order to print it as spreads?

I don't know what you were doing, but Steve's method works perfectly for me. As long as shuffling is disallowed on a spread the pages will not separate. Ps CS5 "Print Page Setup" dialog will not open

Hello: I was printing via my Photoshop CS5.
I accidentally created a paper size of 0cm x 0cm and attempted to print (up to this point Photoshop and Print worked).
I now (permanently) get an error message: "There was an error opening your printer. . . "
Photoshop >File >Print. . . will not open the Print Page Setup.
Photoshop >File >Print one copy (works, but still tries to print 0cm x 0cm, the printer spits out a blank page).
Using the (Mac/Apple) app 'Preview' I deleted the paper size preset '0cm x 0cm'.
apps; Preview, Text Edit, Mail, Word, . . . all print properly (they can open the 'Print Page Setup' dialog).
I set up two other printers (now three in total) and they work with all applications (except Photoshop).
I uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop and my printers, including all their preference files.
Also, I again deleted Photoshop preference files by opening Photoshop while pressing 'Shft-Opt-Cmd'.
In 'System Preferences' >Print & Fax >Printers; I reset my computer's "Printing System".
I repaired 'Disk Permissions', Safe Boot and have also done multiple restarts.
Since only Photoshop has a problem, I believe Photoshop has (somewhere) set a preference thinking it's default paper size is 0cm x 0cm which is throwing an error and preventing the 'Print Page Setup' from opening.
I updated Photoshop Adobe Air, Printers, . . . after re-installing.
I ran an app that clears my computer's caches.
I reinstalled (and updated) my computer's operating system (OS only, not my account and data).

[JS] Move Page position in CS3/CS4? (like CS5's page.transform)

When resizing a document, by default InDesign uses a center reference point. In CS5 and later I know I can use page.transform to move the page's position to where I want it (the art does not move, the page underneath the art). Is there anyway to do the equivalent in CS3 and/or CS4?
To say it in other words, after resizing the document's width, the art is not in the right place on the smaller page width. Is there an easy way to position/move the page under the art, or must I move all the art over on the page? If I must move all the art, is there an easy way to do that considering there may be many layers, locked objects/layers?

You'll need to loop through all pageItems and move them individually (checking if they're locked as you go...)

InDesign CS5 ME Page Layout

Our student association publishes a journal. We left MS Word to start with InDesign CS5 ME since we need to put Arabic and French texts. I wonder how to change the ME Page layout (first page on the right) to standard (non ME), meaning first page on the right. If I add facing pages, they come out in a wrong order : page 2 on the right and page 3 on the left, which is wrong in a non-arabic journal. I tried to disable "Allow pages to shuffle" but no success. Is there any way to correct this. Many, many thanks.

PS/BRIDGE CS5 multi-page PDF + selectable text

since i started using CS5 i cant figure out how to make multi-page PDF's and selectable text i know that now bridge does the job with PDF's but i dnt know how to make text selectable, ive noticed that doing file -> automate -> batch then save as pdf will make PDF's with selectable text but this wont gives me an option to create multi page PDFs, sooo annoying grrrrrrr

Assuming you're coming from an earlier version of Photoshop, you'll find the ability to make a multi-page PDF has been removed from Photoshop.

[JS] [Win7] [CS5] Moving pages to another document

Hi guys,
I need to write a script for my company which merges 3 documents together by selecting the needed pages in two of three documents and moving them to the third document. Everything works fine and I am almost finished but I can't find a way to move pages between documents.
I also thought about just copying everything on the needed pages but this doesn't work because every document has different master pages which are needed.
Is somebody able to help me with the needed code to select some Pages and move them to the end of another document?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

With no pages moved and no pageItems covered - where is the point which you called "almost finish"?
Example:
(with 2 documents opened - last opened index = 0)
var tarPage = app.documents[0].pages[0];
app.documents[1].pages[0].duplicate(LocationOptions.AFTER, tarPage);
It duplicates 1st page of 1st doc after 1st page od 2nd doc. Move() method work similar.
In case of masterPages you can move them as well but this is an open gate to another story, I am afraid.

CS3 to CS5 Master page issue

Hi, we just got CS5 at work and we're testing the compatibility with our CS3 projects.
Almost everything seems fine aside from this weird problem, i got a master page graphic on master page C that is appearing on a master page B (in the document not in the master page panel). In fact, in every chapter of my book, everytime that Master C is applied on the right page, the left page seems to use that master page too, but its suppose to be B.... and the page panel says B... i can select the graphic, unlock it and delete it... which.. does not seem to be the right thing to do.
is there an option that says that spreads must use the same master pages or something?
In the screenshot below, i'm trying to show the page panel on page 200, that says B, but as you can see, there's a graphic behind my text frame that comes from the page on the right...

I think the solution for this is go to page panel and right click on pages and uncheck option 'Allow selected spread to shuffle' (red box), so you now drag the page down (orange box), I think this will solve the problem for now, but if that happen with a lot of pages, you will need more time to do that with all pages

Indesign CS5 - Separating pages faster

Is there a way I can separate a multi page indesign cs5 document into multiple indesign cs5 document files? (ie. a 12 page indesign file > 12 separate indesign files)
I'm having trouble finding a plug-in or function for this online. Anyone have any ideas?

Fireworks CS5 Invlaid page name error on export

I've been using CS3 up until today on my Window 7 machine. I decided to install CS5 today and have run into issues when trying to export slices from Fireworks.
I right click on the slice, select export selected slice as usual, select the image I want to overwrite or simply type in a new file name and click save...
I get this on my screen:
Invalid page name. Done not use the following characters: \ / : * ? " " < > |
I haven't used any of these characters and never do!
it doesn't matter even if the filename contains only letters, I still get this error.
I can't export anything and therefore I can't work.
I've searched on google and not had any relevant search results.
Can someone help??

InDesign CS5 Long Page

When viewing a 28 page layout in ID CS5 in "normal" screen mode, I am getting a huge, long page before page 26. My bleeds and margins etc. seem to be in their correct places, just a huge space above the pg 26-27 spread. When I switch to "preview" screen mode, the extra space goes away. I am running a Mac Pro (Intel) with OSX 10.5.8.
I opened the same document in CS4 and it looks normal.

Thanks for the replies. I tried to open it again in CS4 but was getting errors that I didn't want to take the time to figure out. So I just re-made the document and copied my stuff over. I guess I could've done this to begin with but I thought there might be an easier fix. The re-done doc seems to be working fine. Thanks again for the help.
