CS5.5 Premiere → AE & RED audio disappearing

Just talked my boss into upgrading CS5.5 (Mac) because we were having audio issues with CS5. So today I'm still getting this funky behavior when dealing with RED .R3D files in CS5.5
I have some R3D clips edited in Premiere Pro CS5.5.  Every looks fine. Audio is synced.
When I use AE CS5.5 and File> Import> Import Premiere Pro project…, I'm getting clips that don't have any audio. There's nothing in the waveform.
But if I File> Import… the Premiere project as a footage item, the audio is fine. (But unfortunately, I lose my full-res 4K clips that I get with the Import>Import Premiere Pro project… method.
There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason which clips will not have any audio and which will. It's maddening.
And it's not clear when Import Premiere Pro project will break up layers into audio-only and video-only layers or have both audio & video in the same layer. (All my source RED footage has embedded audio tracks)

Let's keep this conversation on the other thread that you started about this:

It's hard to follow a fragmented conversation.

    Have any idea?

    Hi Dennis,
I just had a go and can reproduce the problem straight away too.
Created a new project then a new XDCAM EX 1080p25 sequence. Imported a short Sony PMW-350 clip. Dragging it straight to the timeline and then setting audio gain is OK (Source channel mapping preferences set to mono).
However, if I Modify - Audio Channels and then set track format as stereo or mono as stereo and then drag the clip to the timeline and right click - gain, Premiere crashes about 1/2 to 1 second after the audio gain dialogue box appears. Error log below if it's useful.

  • Why is Premiere Pro CS5.5 scrambling the Audio Track on some of my Canon DLSR clips?

I've recently started editing a Wedding, and realised that in the Source Window the clips audio doesn't match up with the visual - clips play perfectly, but the audio cuts out, is scrambled, and only rarely is in sync with the video.
This has never happened before. I shot all the video on Canon 60D and 550D. The original clips all play perfectly, with matching audio, in quicktime or any other application when opened.
I'm editing on an iMac 27" running Mac OSX 10.7.4, with 3.4GHz Intel Core i7 and 16GB ram. I am running Adobe Production Premium CS5.5, Premiere Pro 5.5.2 with all the updates up to date.
I did import the folder system from Finder into After Effects CS5.5 (in order to keep all the sub-folder system in tact) and then copied them into Premiere, in order to save time. Could this be the cause of my grief?
    Anyone know any fixes?
There aren't any AIFF's in the project at all.
    Cheers,
    Thomas

I had the same problem with some footage I shot on Saturday. The footage was shot with the Panasonic AF100, with audio in the LPCM format.
After I ingested the footage with Prelude, some of the later clips were badly garbled. At random intervals, the audio would "skip ahead" and lose sync. The audio would finish early and the there would be silence for the second half of the clip. All of the early clips were fine, the later ones were garbled.
I was able to use another take where the audio was fine, but I was certainlty worried. Was my camera malfunctioning? Was it an SD card error? Was it a Premiere bug?
I finally got a chance to revisit this today. The data was still on the card, so I put it back to the camera and played it back. The audio was fine. So it was definitely Premiere.
In Premiere, I deleted the Media Cache (Edit->Preferences->Media) and while I was at it I selected "Save Media Cache Files Next To Originals" so in the future it would be easier to figure out which cache files went with which clips.
After Premiere reconformed the audio, the problem diasppeared.
I've been using this camera with Premiere for the last year, and have been using Premiere for many years and have never seen this issue in the past.  So I assume it's a new quirk, something we'll have to keep alert to in CS6.

  • Roto Brush issue in CS5 Premiere Pro

I am a new CS5 user with a week of learning under my belt.  (My previous experience was splicing 8mm film together when making films as a kid.)  I am hoping someone can advise on an issue I am encountering in CS5 Premiere Pro?  (I realize Roto Brush is a tool in After Effects, but I am having trouble with the output of the Roto Brush tool in Premiere Pro.)
I opened a .VOB file (taken from a DVD) in Premiere Pro (first I changed the extension to .MPG).  It opened as 720 x 480 at 23.976 fps.  No problems scrubbing through and using the Razor tool.  I selected one of the small razored subsections I made from the video, and opened it in After Effects using the Premiere Pro menu selection: File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Replace With After Effects Composition.  No problem opening in After Effects.  I learned the Roto Brush tool and it also worked great as I successfully masked out a moving figure - looks great.  But ...
When I return to Premiere Pro, the After Effect composition does not display the same as it did in After Effects.  Specifically there appears to be some kind of mask/motion mismatch, and so a bluish border will appear on some frames around the figure as it moves.  In After Effects the rotoscope is perfect, but in Premiere it is like a poorly done rotoscope with the borders of the figure messed up.  I am hoping the comparison images below will make this clear.  The image on the left shows the perfectly rotoscoped figure in After Effects, and on the right the same frame but in Premiere Pro.  Note how the image in Premiere Pro has a messed up border around the figure?
Has anyone experienced this or know why it is occuring?  I can think of some possible work-arounds that could be tried, but the dynamic link method is nice and fast.  So before I start rendering and saving and reopening files in a work-around attempt, I am wondering first what could be causing this issue.  Thanks for any ideas.

    Hi,
Just to let you know that you've posted in the Audition (audio) forum and may do better posting over in the Premier Pro forums.
However, as one who works in both video and audio, I'd just comment that your choice of export format is affected big time by what you want to do with your edit.  Things like Youtube, DVD, Bluray, etc. all have their own formats that you have to adhere to.  Within those formats you often have choices you can make to balance bandwidth vs. quality but these only come into play once you've decided where your project has to end up.

  • Audio disappears in iMovie '11 --why oh why?

working on a movie for days and days.
movie is about 20 minutes long.
it's got a lot of transitions & slow motion speeds.
i waste a great deal of time with the audio.
on most of the clips, i use the audio from within the clip.
i additionally add some audio that was detached from the source/Events footage.
i added a voiceover and suddenly all the audio disappeared.
it still shows up visibly in the Project. -- the purple bars beneath the clips, and the show audio within the clips themselves. i can see the peaks and valleys.
i can see that it's there in the little audio monitor that's visible on the screen below the Project editing. when i play back the Project, it shows green/yellow/red bars as the audio "plays" somewhere inside iMovie's little world. but it won't let me hear that audio.
the sound is still *there* somewhere.
i've tried exporting / Sharing in Quicktime, media browser, and to iDVD, but the sound doesn't show up. all the tracks are soundless.
i have, of course, looked at the audio edit inspector on a sampling of the clips, and nothing is wrong in there. the volume is up to an appropriate level, ducking isn't clicked, etc.
i'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, a desktop iMac Intel duo, and the like.
due to my new experiences with a zillion *other* buggy behaviors in iMovie in the last few weeks, i have already: trashed the preferences, reinstalled iMovie, manually moved my project files out of the "iMovie Projects" folder and i only drag one back in when i am actively working on it (so iMovie doesn't try to have all the movies in memory at once... yes, this is a real thing! look it up. i couldn't believe it.), run disk first aid, backed everything up, exported using every possible setting i can find and basically executed every maneuver you can find on Apple Support and about 5 other websites. i have probably tried everything except flinging the entire thing out the window, which is on my list.
    any help would be appreciated.

i think it is just a bug, like so many other behaviors in this application. (someone in another thread suggested they just left this iMovie version to be horrible, didn't bother addressing any of our concerns even when discussed here, because they want us all to buy FinalCut!) i think i had to start over. :-(

  • Audio disappears part way through avi file

I have imported an avi file into a new CC project.
    Video stream:
    Codec: DV Video (dvsd)
    Resolution: 720x576
    Frame Rate: 25
    Decoded format: Planar 4:2:0 YUV
    Audio Stream
    Codec: PCM S16 LE (araw)
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample rate: 48000 Hz
    Bits per sample: 16
PC is running Windows 8.1 and is running CC 7.2.2 (33)
The file itself runs for 43 minutes and is 5.4 Gb in size
When editing the file 25 minutes in the audio disappears completely and is gone for the rest of the clip.
I have checked the file in VLC and the audio is present throughout the file.
I used Avidemux 2.6 to split off from the main file about 10 minutes of data where there was no audio within Premiere.
I imported that new file into Premiere and the audio is present in the new file.
I can therefore use that but don't know what is wrong with the original file.

Any suggestions of where to start?
    Thanks

    Thank you for the information.
I have read the source patching article and watched the video too.  Very interesting and an impressive function.
I did also look at the Audio Conforming link a lot of which I didn't understand; I think though I did try what was suggested regarding XMP stuff although it did not make any difference with the file I had the issue with.
My problem is that the audio just stops part way through the clip.
I have reduxed into a new file all the audio/video from the original file from just before the audio disappeared and that seems to work OK.  Perhaps there is an issue with my original file.
It doesn't help that I have a brand new PC and this is the very first video I have edited in Premiere CC as I had previously been using CS4 and even then I haven't used that for a while.
Anyway, thank you for your help and I will see how I get on.

  • Muted red audio track?

    Hello.
I was working on this project last night and audio was working perfectly. Today I've re-opened the project and found out that all audio sub-clips are red and no audio is played for those sub-clips:
I've tried right-clicking everywhere but I'm unable to find a way to get audio back on those clips.
Also, if I add a new video-audio clip to the sequence, the audio is there, is only the ones I had already added those that won't play. It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't had like 40 of those small clips
I'm a Premiere Pro noobie, so I'm not sure what I did wrong and how to fix it.
    Please help

I've got the red audio w/ no sound issue too!  Everything was working fine, til I reloaded the project (mere minutes after I closed it.). I am using Adobe Premiere CS6.0.2 on a PC (Dell XPS8300: i7-2600 CPU @ 3.4GHz) running Windows 7.
(First let me state, while I have been using Premiere Pro & Premiere Elements for 5+ years, I am definitely NO expert. Also, I started this post in despiration, but have concluded with my workaround that works.)
If I recall correctly, here's what I did:
Several months ago, I created Version 1 of the prproj in CS3. It contained only one .MOV file (filmed on my camera).
I made several audio volume adjustments & splices throughout the file, saved it, but decided to not work on it until I bought CS6.
In between that time, I renamed the MOV file.
Fast forward to today, when I started to edit it in CS6. Obviously, I had to locate the renamed file. No problem, until...
I realized the project settings were not optimal for the source file.
I used a different project that had better settings and imported the MOV file and saved it as Version 2.
But I did not want to lose the volume adjustments I made on the Version 1.
I opened Version 1, unlinked the audio, copied all the audio segments, pasted it into Version 2, linked it with the video track and deleted the previous audio track already in Version 2.
All seemed well as I continued to edit the project making several volume adjustment & new razor edits for several hours.
I saved Version 2. Closed it to check on a different project.
When I reopened Version 2, the Audio Track was in red and contained no information.
It seems to still be wanting the audio to be the old filename from Version 1, or something!
I have attempted to change the MOV filename name back to the original filename, but that did not help. Still in red.
I have saved several versions and played around with it, but could never get the audio to link back up.
Here's my workaround (I don't know if this will help anyone else, but unless someone has a better idea besides uninstalling/reinstalling/not-updating, which I suspect would not have fixed this issue):
I added the original MOV file into the project, sandwiching the edited version then copy & pasted the attributes for each edited segment. That took much less time than typing this all up. .  But since I had already started this post, I figured I'd post my "fix."
Hope it might help someone, but I still would love to know how to get the audio file to point to the right thing again!

  • In Windows 7 I mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and all applications (CS3E, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from programs on the start menu

WIN7: Mistakenly un-installed Adobe Application Manager and now all Adobe apps (CS3, CS5 and Elements 6) have disappeared from the programs list in the start up menu.
CS5 Bridge is still there so I can get into the photo editor to de-activate it and re-install.
However, all of CS3 has disappeared so I cannot get into it to de-activate.
Question 1: Will downloading and re-installing Adobe Application manager get CS3 automatically back?
Question 2: If not, what to do to get CS3 back things working properly again? Remember, I can't de-activate it.
Thanks and have a happy day!

Don't worry about activation unless you are installing on a new and different machine. Simply reinstall in order. It should all work.
Then install any updates. Product updates
After that, let me know how it went and if there are any further questions.

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

  • Audio disappears when I reverse a video in iMovie 11?

Hello.  I was reversing and mirroring videos today with no problems.  Then when I went to reverse another video, the video reversed fine, but the video's audio disappeared.  The audio plays perfectly fine when the video isn't reversed, so I'm not sure what the problem could be.  Like I said, I reversed other videos with no problems, so I know I'm doing it correctly.  I'm just wondering if there's a way to fix this.  Thanks.

That's where the knowledgeable ones on that issue hang out. Be sure to include the version of iMovie that you're using too.

  • Best PC to buy for Photoshop CS5, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer

I am looking for a new PC to replace my 10 year old one.
This would be used primarily for Photoshop CS5, Lightroom, Premiere Elements and Proshow Producer.
I am thinking of going to Digital Storm to get one of their top line gaming machines with Sandybridge cpu, high end video card and at least 16 to 32 gb Ram
(although I do not play games on the pc}.
Is this overkill, or would a different kind of PC be better?
    what do you recommend?

I'm definitely going to look into it. Thanks. Have a great holiday.

Dell Precisions are great machines, you could look into their Studio or Studio XPS too. Not quite workstation qualtiy but I'm beating the snot outta one @home and it's holding up well for a 600 buck eBay chassis...
