CS5 64 bit and plugins

I run win7 64 bit 6 gig ram and have cs5 both 64 bit and 32 bit installed. Kept having ram issues running cs5 32 bit so after searching through forum found I should be using cs5 64bit as it uses more of my available ram.. however the plugins/filters I use in CS5 32 bit wont work in the cs5 64 bit program. Its all so frustrating...   Is Adobe going to correct this ram issue for 32 bit?  I have 6 gig ram and cs5 32 bit only uses half of it

Adobe can't work miracles...  The "RAM issue" in general is that the 32 bit addresses provided by the 32 bit instruction set can only provide access to up to 4 gigabytes of RAM, or 2-3 gigabytes in practical terms, because of the way Windows handles addressing.
As far as your plug-ins go, most reputable plug-in makers are now offering 64 builds of their current products.  But I assume you have some you can't get new versions for.
But back to where you say you "Kept having ram issues"... :  Many people do a lot of stuff with 32 bit Photoshop...
Perhaps we could discuss what's going wrong, specifically, in your case...  Were you working on very large images?  What messages did you see?  Can you describe the problems in enough detail that others could try to reproduce them?

    Hello
    Thanks for the reply.
It seems that I will need to spend £110 ($165) to find out. That would go a little way to buying a Canon MPE 65 Macro lens.
Very likely I will say where I am. Windows XP Pro SP2 is good enough.
    Thanks

  • Running 64 Bit and 32 bit CS5 simultaneously?

I am delighted with my preliminary tests on CS5. However, one problem is that all my plugins (and Photoshop's own Lighting Effects) have disappeared. The solution is of course to run in 32 bit. To have close to close PS, go into Info to change its startup setting and then restart, and then repeat the whole process over again when I am finished with my plugin, is very tedious. So to make this easier I duplicated just the PS App file inside the CS5 directory and set the copy to run in 32 bit. So it is quick and easy to start whichever 64 or 32 bit PS I want without having to open Info and change the startup setting each time.
I have discovered, somewhat to my surprise, that I can run the two at the same time, apparently without conflict. This means I can simply open 32 bit when needed for a plugin and move the layer I am filtering back and forth via the clipboard. It's not ideal but it will do for now.
    So two questions:
    1) When I open the 32 bit version (the copy I made from the original installed app) I get a message "The application has been moved, and its path has changed. To update the product configuration, click Update." If I accept this and click update then the next time I try to run the original version I get the same message and have to update again to restore it. However if I just ignore the message each time the 32 bit version opens and don't update it seems to run fine with all my preferences and settings intact. Can anyone tell me what the implications of this message are and whether I can safely ignore it?
    2) Am I courting disaster anyway running 64 and 32 bit side by side like this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    David Mac

    David,
Essentially there is only one application and when you create multiple copies still then it point to one single binary , the location of which gets stored in a particular file.
Now when you launch the other Copy then the new location gets updated in that file. And again when you open original then also the location gets updated.
So it is advisable not to do so , but if you face any issues just remove the other copy and update the location with just one app.

I have mac OS X, Photoshop CC 64 bit and and i would like to run 32 bit plugins.. How may I do this ?

As said already by JJMack, you cannot do that.
Photoshop CS6, CC & CC 2014 only install a 64-bit version on Mac OS.
Photoshop CS5 installs a version that can launch in either 32 bit or 64 bit when you install on a 64-bit version of Mac OS (Mac OS X 10.5 or later). If you are using Mac OS X 10.4 or earlier, then Photoshop only installs the 32-bit version.
    Photoshop CS4 installs a 32-bit version only.

  • 32-bit VST plugins in CS5 - here's a solution

For all people who want to use their old VST plugins in Premiere CS5 but could not use them because they are programmed for 32-bit hosts - here's a solution:
There is a little program called jBridge (jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge) which works as a bridge for 64-bit hosts and 32-bit plugins. It's simple to use, install it and run the configurator. Here your are guided through the few stepps that have to be done: Choose directory of the 32-bit vst plugins and choose the destination directory (premiere vst directory) that's all. Remember to start the configurator with administrator rights because it have to write files in Premiere-VST directory).
Now I can use my old VST plugins as good and fast as in CS4. jBridge is shareware, you can test it as demo which fully runs for 20 minutes. The full version costs 15 Euro which seems to be a very good investment.
Just an information, hope it will help s.o.

  • Existing Actions and Plugins Compatible with Photoshop CS5?

I have actions and plug-in products, and while I've done everything I can to make them future-proof, I'm wondering if any Photoshop CS5 beta testers can speak to whether existing actions and plugins are generally compatible with Photoshop CS5?
    Specifically:
Are existing 32 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing 64 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing actions (both platforms) proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
I'm anxiously awaiting the go-ahead to download my copy to verify everything, but I'm just trying to get a feel for whether I'll have work to do.  I'm hoping for the level of compatibility seen in CS3 and CS4 - all my software worked perfectly with no changes.
    Thanks.

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer, but none of you has actually said what DOES happen with your existing actions / plugins and CS5 beta.
I know that experience with one set of actions and plugins doesn't guarantee operation with another, but if, for example, someone actually stated, "all my old plugins failed to work with CS5" or "they all seemed to work okay" then I'd have a better idea of what to expect.
Please keep in mind I've been developing commercial actions since PS6 and plugins since CS2, and all my software works on all 32 bit versions and 64 bit CS4 on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, so I'm intimately familiar with what might happen and what should happen.  Plus I've programmed them to be quite resilient, and I don't expect any of the CS5 feature changes to break them.  What I don't know is whether Adobe has fundamentally altered the plugin interface this time around, or has deprecated any old filters, causing a plugin or action that used to work to fail now.  The word "rewrite" has been used to describe CS5, and that has me wondering.
In short, I'm really looking for actual experience with the CS5 beta here.
Wish I could get the CS5 SDK already.  I don't understdand why Adobe doesn't release that in advance.
    Thanks.

  • PhotoShop CS5 with Windows 7 64 bits and/or Windows 7 32 bits

    Hello
I just bought a new computer with an Intal QuadCore, 8 Gb of memory and Windows 7 - 64 bits edition
I plan to upgrade from a former Photoshop CS3 onWindows XP and it was a 32 bits edition
Is the Photoshop CS5 supported on BOTH Win 7 32 AND 64 bits ? Or are they different versions ?
I plan to either have a dual boot Win 7 32 Bits  -    Win 7  64 bits or separate hard disk on racks, so I'll still be able to use 32 bits softwazre that don't run on 64bits
But if PhotoShop CS5 comes in 2 versions, I need to decide which one I should buy
Thanks for any help you vcan provide
    have a good day
PS : Is the problem with PhotoShop CS5 running on AMD processors solved ?

Windows 7 x64 is a separate build from Windows 7 32 bit.  Windows 7 Ultimate comes with BOTH.
There isn't a separate package of Photoshop CS5 for 32 bit or 64 bit.  Photoshop (since CS4) installs both 32 bit and 64 bit software on a 64 bit Windows system, or only 32 bit software on a 32 bit Windows system.
Photoshop CS5 is fine with every variant of Windows 7.
Photoshop CS5 is reportedly fine with modern AMD processors, though I have only used Intel.
The detailed system requirements are here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/systemreqs/
My own (personal, subjective) opinion is that ATI (AMD) video interfaces are better than nVidia.
    Hope this answers your questions.

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.

It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there.

As an overworked professional, I simply have to consider the very viable options out there. Never thought I'd be seriously considering a Cubase product.
It's a Steinberg product, not a Cubase product.. in case you haven't been paying attention Steinberg developed the virtual instrument for use in it's programs way back in Cubase 3.55.. the plethora of virtual instruments and the advent of low-latency drivers can be directly traced to Steinberg/Cubase development.. Logic also borrowed Cubase's arrange page format back in the 1980's. Cubase has borrowed from Logic to be sure but Steinberg has long been an innovator for many of the things we take for granted today. It was Logic/Emagic who licensed the VST technology and ASIO low latency format to use in Logic 4.xx. It was Apple who adapted VST to it's own AU format. Also, Cubase and Nuendo have undergone a lot more innovation over the past three years, Yamaha has been good as a parent company. Cubase is not Nuendo's little brother by the way, they are very close, same exact audio engine, same robustness, they can exchange files, the only difference being Cubase doesn't have some of the high end post features that Nuendo has. I use both Cubase and Logic and occasionally Nuendo at the University here.. I know both programs fairly well, believe me, both Cubase 6 and 7 can hold their own with any DAW out there, they just don't come with a bunch of ready made loops and preset instruments.
LogicX will never be able to use 32-bit instruments without a third party solution, nor will it ever include the Bridge. At least according to the people I know.

  • Installed CS5 64 bit and 32 bit versions; Uninstall 32 bit?

I inadvertently installed both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of CS5  when I should have only installed the 64 bit version. Can I saftely uninstall the 32 bit version? If so, do I need to de-activate it first?

Don't be too hasty – a lot of users have found they need both, because not everything works in 64-bit.

  • CS5 64 bit and 32 bit versions

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I didn't find anything when I searched.
I've just bought a new 64 bit PC and intend to upgrade from CS3 to CS5. However, my laptop is 32 bit. My question is, does CS5 come with both 64 bit and 32 bit on the same disk?
    Thanks for any help.

Yes.  The default for a 64 bit system is for Photoshop to install both 32 and 64 bit software, and you want both so as to maintain compatibility with old plug-ins.

  • CUEAC 9.1.1.10 and CUCM 7.1(5) 64 bit TSP Plugin

    Hello,
I have a customer with CUCM 7.1(5) who has purchased CUEAC 9.1.1.10 and wants to run it on Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit).
According to the data sheet this should be supported but when I go through the CUEAC server installation process it tries to download the 64 bit TSP plugin from the CUCM server.
This is a problem as CUCM 7.1(5) does not have the 64 bit TSP plugin - it only has the 32 bit version.
The exact message I get is
Error occured while downloading Cisco TSP.
    Path: https://10.80.20.12/plugins/CiscoTSPx64.exe
I have obtained the 64 bit TSP from a later CUCM and done a manual installation hoping that the installer would see the TSP is already installed and skip the step but it does not do so.
Can anyone suggest how to resolve this?
I know I could use a 32 bit version of Windows Server or upgrade CUCM but these options are not available.
    Thanks

    Update
I built a CUCM 9.x server as a virtual machine and integrated CUEAC with that. The 64 bit TSP downloaded and installed ok and I was hoping that I could then reconfigure the TSP CTI manager addresses and the CUEAC CUCM server to point to the version 7.1 CUCM server.
Unfortunately this did not work as I got a message complaining about version incompatibilities between the CUEAC server and CUCM.
I do not think there is any workaround for running CUCM 7.1 with CUEAC on a 64 bit Windows Server.
Luckily for me the customer found an old Windows 2003 32 bit server that they used to run Cisco ACS on. CUEAC installed without a hitch on this server and is running fine.
If anyone manages to get this working I would be interested to know how.
Lesson here is do not believe Cisco data sheets

There doesn't appear to be any commonality between the two crash dumps, suggesting that it might not be software.

  • CC, CC 64 Bit, and CC 2014? WTF?

It's bad enough Adobe can't figure out how to make the same features in one program work the same in a different program. To top it off, instead of improving what are now "apps" and integrating we now have more new programs to do the same thing (e.g. not just one for website creation, not just one for photos, not just one for illustrations, not just one for animation, etc...) and to top it off again they get rid of important programs like Soundbooth, and stop upgrading ones we need like Encore. I am beginning to think the CC is for Creative Chaos not Creative Cloud....
So, I uninstalled my CS5 master suite finally and moved presumably up to CC. But, now do I not only have more than one program to do the same thing more now I also have 3 of each! Wow! That's STUPID. Sorry, I hate using that word, but what in the hell?
Why is it when I go to my programs I have a CC version, a CC 64 bit, and now new to the Creative Chaos we have CC 2014 versions!!!!          What? Really? Someone, please help me maintain my sanity. Before I realized it I was using Premiere CC then I inadvertantly started using CC 2014. Then I was like "something is missing, oh, wait, what? there's more than one version of premiere in CC???" Then I realized "oh, there's 3 of Illustrator, Photoshop, and inDesign?
I of course have a 64 bit system, so should I only use the 64 bit versions and just delete the shortcuts to the others? and when there isn't a 64bit version but instead just a CC and a CC2014 version, which do I use? I mean, I assume the CC 2014. But, in 2014 will something change, will I be like "damn it, I should have been using the CC not the CC2014"?
Adobe, please clean up all your software, boil it down to just the ones we need, we don't need more than one program to do THE SAME THING. and once you boil it down, don't give us three versions of it, ask "do you want the 64 bit version or the 32" and we'll be happy to download precisely what we need. Or better yet, figure out a way to make it work with one program. And, of course while you're at it combine the CC and CC XXXX version of each, WTF???

32bit programs are installed for those people who use plugins that have not been updated to 64bit
CC and CC2014 have different source code bases, so they are different programs
