CS5 and OSX 10.7 - Lion

I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my Mac to 10.7 - Lion. All the manufactures of my plug-ins have released updates for Lion compatability. I'm new to the Mac platform, and have never did a upgrade on a Mac. I know on a PC I've had to de-activate Photoshop, uninstall etc. Do I need to follow the same process on the Mac for PS? Thanks in advance.

Hello! it all depends on how you intend to update. You can install Lion on top of snow leopard, you are not forced to uninstall/reinstall everything...

  • Ps CS5 and OSX 10.7.3 (Lion) Problem

Ok, so I asked this awhile back when I was running Snow Leopard (10.6.x) on this late 2009 27" iMac.  Someone mentioned that I should disable Open GL drawing to resolve it, and it worked, for awhile except for many of the features in CS5 you need Open GL enabled.  If no one else is having this problem on the same OS then I am going to take this computer back to Apple and have it fixed/replaced.  Maybe it's the graphics card, I don't know.  But here is what my PS documents look like about 75% of the time.  Sometimes it is worse than this and it makes working very, very hard:
The very strange white pixelation that appears is also appearing on the panels now as well (look at the layers panel in the above image).  It is becoming very frustrating.  I updated to 10.7.3 to hopefully 'fix' the problem, but no cigar.  I don't know if this is an Adobe problem or an Apple problem.  I notice it appears on applications like Safari when a webpage with Flash is running as well.  I know Adobe and Apple don't get along but this is becoming a regularity for my Photoshop experience.  It's also starting to affect many other applications on my computer.  It happens almost every time I run Photoshop, and it affects other applications that I run if Photoshop is running simultaneously.  If I quit Photoshop it clears up this issue in many other applications.  Any ideas?  Is anyone else running these system specs having this problem?  If so, have you done anything to fix it?  I am considering sending this iMac back to Apple and having the graphics card looked at.
My intuition says there is either a clash between Adobe programs and OSX and that is the source of the problem, or I have a bad graphics card, but I have no proof of that.  It happens on websites with Flash and it happens directly in Photoshop.  It doesn't happen in Illustrator, InDesign, or Dreamweaver though.  I am totally at a loss for what is causing this.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

That's a pretty classic example of a bad GPU or bad VRAM.
Yes, your video card is bad and needs to be replaced.

  • Problem with Virtual Hosts Individual Config Files and OSX 10.7 Lion (AllowOverride Setting)

I am hoping some other Xserve users running OSX 10.7 (Lion) can offer some additional input or help in a couple of issues I am running into with the Apache settings on my server.
Below is an example site config file on our server. We are hosting a number of sites and are using .htaccess files and apache's rewrite module to create vanity URLs. In order for the .htaccess files to be used AllowOverride has to be set to "All" instead of "None"
The problem I am running into is everytime I stop and restart the web service on the machine it keeps changing this setting back in the individual site configuration files. I will change it to AllowOverride All and next time the server has to be restarted or the web service has to be restarted it is defaulting every site back to None which has become quite frustrating.
Is there somewhere I can set this default setting to prevent this from occuring and forcing every site and site config to default to "AllowOverride All" ?
Should I be researching this somewhere specific? OSX 10.7 changed the entire Apache Interface and the manner in which it runs and I am finding little to no documentation on it.

Are you using the default Server.app, or have you downloaded and installed the (proper) Server Admin tools?
Server Admin.app isn't included as part of the Lion Server distribution, but if you download it and install it you get the same set of admin tools as you're used to with previous versions. From there you should be able to set the 'Allow All Overrides' setting for your site.

  • CS5 and OSX Mavericks: Why is my computer logging me out?

So I'm a telecommuting graphic designer, and everytime I'm meeting with my client and sharing my screen through Skype, my MacBook Pro (OSX Mavericks) keeps logging my out randomly.
I initially thought it was because I was using shortcuts in Adobe Illustrator that would force a logout, but when I looked in "Shortcuts" there was nothing that used the keys that my shortcuts were using.
Furthermore, the longer I would be on call with a client, the more frequent the logouts would become, at times that I was not using shortcuts on my keyboard.
It then occurred to me that it could be some of the trackpad shortcuts I was using... in particular the two finger swipe (which is back in a web-browser, but scroll within Adobe?)
Does anyone have any possible solutions?  Any feedback is appreciated!

    Hello dfabie12
Check to see if you have an auto log out when your MacBook Pro is not in use for a certain amount of time. To do that, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Click the Lock and enter in your Administrator password, click the Advanced button in the lower right hand side of the window and a box will drop down to see if it is enabled. Uncheck that if you do not want it to log you out or change the time length to a longer time of inactivity.

  • NAC and OSX 10.7 Lion - when will the agent support it?

OSX 10.7 aka Lion was release on July 21st.  Cisco NAC Agent does not support it.  When will it be supported and under what version?

We are using 4.8.0 CAM/CAS and these versions
    Current Windows NAC Agent Version:
    4.8.2.1
    Current Macintosh Clean Access Agent:
    4.8.2.590
Current Cisco NAC Web Agent Version:
    4.8.1.4
    Current Windows Compliance Module Version:
    3.4.21.1
I want to believe you about 4.8.2 supportin OSX Lion but I can't find any documentation on Cisco's site stating that.  The compatibility matrix only goes upto Snow Leopard 10.6

  • Where do I send a long list of problems I have with non-functionality with the Lion OSX and new Safari for Lion.

In the past two weeks I have been documenting my Lion problems.
First, Arrows gone from finder windows; makes it difficult in comparing long lists of files in folder, or compare documents when reviewing line by line. This is obviously a change by people who do not compare long lists in windows comparing files between versions of projects ... the click to next screen is NOT equal to arrows.
Second, Finder Redreaw - doesn't. Move files to a fold, if there are a lot of files, they image of the files being moved remains in finder (see attached screen capture) until Finder is restarted and if COPY function is running. last files in Copy queue are not copied.
Screen capture 5 minutes after moving files to a folder - the selected file images are still in Finder after the move was completed.
Third, it is SLOW, particularly going to an "Attach file" in email, drawing the content of a folder to select an attachment is long enough for me to go to the kitchen, get a drink and come back. Just like the old days of OS7.
Fourth, shifting/recentering screen away from where I am working. Several programs, browsers, Adobe Photoshop/inDesign, and dear old Pages re center my screen - not to the center, but if I choose 30 of 70 images in a folder, it will shift … somewhere else in the folder instead of where I just clicked. If I am working on a document in inDesign or PhotoShop it will do the same - the cursor and screen drift elsewhere to find something it has been amused by. Sometimes it is a word, or a file, but often it is off the pastboard and on the etherial pasteboard on which the pages sit. Or if I'm zoomed in on an image, it moves to somewhere else.
I use a mouse and keyboard, both Apple wireless. I do not use a trackpad, but have a tablet/stylus I am afraid to put into the mix until this crap is stopped.
Fifth, SAVE AS… is gone. You must unlock, duplicate and edit the duplicate … and must rename it in Finder, or use EXPORT to save as the same format under a new name. SAVE AS… worked. Not broke, why fix it?
Personal Comment: The problems seem to be the triumph of coked up software engineers ooohing and aaahing over "Wouldn't it be cool if..."   Cool, if they were Microsoft, and required everyone change how they have worked on Macs for the past (almost) three decades. Triumph of brainstorming over functionality.
Sixth, I can't use Cocoa Booklet, but that really started in OSX 10.6 "Snow Leopard". Most of my X11/Cocoa programs stopped worked about that time. Apple is no longer supporting "open source"?
    But Wait! There's More...
Seventh, Tonight, trying to download a 1.7 gig archive onto a disk where 280 Gigs were supposedly free, it would not download because, according to the wonderful new Safari and the wonderful new Lion, there is not enough disk space to download a 1.7 gig file in a mere 280 Gigs of free space.
I might be able to move Snow Leopard onto the iMac, but my deciding factor was that Apple, in its wisdom, decided to make iBook Author unable to run under Snow Leopard. So moving to Snow Leopard means I have lost the ONLY benefit I get from the new computer and the new system.
    This really stinks.

Use any number of free alternatives to your nearly decade old version of MS Office.
    Consider
    LibreOffice (donation-supported)
    NeoOffice (free)
    OpenOffice (free)
In addition to the above I also recommend Apple's Pages ($19.99). I use OpenOffice and Pages and have been completely Microsoft - free for years. Life is better without Microsoft.

  • Using Photoshop CS4/CS5 and Lightroom 2/3 on Win 7 vs OSX

I do NOT want to re-ignite the no-win discussion of pc vs mac. Now that CS5 is announced, yet again as I preprare to upgrade from CS4, I ask if I should convert fromWin7 64-bit on a PC to MAC Pro running OSX. I currently run a WIN 7 64-bit PC with 8 GB Ram. I would consider buying a MAC PRO with 8 GB RAM. The machine(s) are used strictly for image processing, no general office work or general internet surfing except as relates to supporting my software, etc.
I don't want to discuss PC vs MaC but I would like to understand the limits, advantages/disadvantages of one platform vs the other as specifically relates to CS4/CS5 and/or Lightroom 2/3. In other words are there functions or processes that I can do on one platform and not the other, or do better on one compared to the other, not does one cost more than the other any comments or help?? Mike

As a casual user of CS products, I find no substantive differences between using them on a Mac vs. PC. I can cross post this question over to the Photoshop forum (originally posted to the Photoshop.com web site forum, which is not just about the desktop app).
It's probably going to become a Mac vs. PC discussion, since the question is inherently 'which is better', but hopefully people will remain objective and constructive!

this one is actually a really rare symptom of a flaky connection to the ipod on a Windows PC. there's more going on in terms of hardware on nanos and 5th gens than in the earlier models ... so if the connection is flaky to precisely the right/wrong degree, itunes will see the ipod, but misidentify it as an earlier version of ipod.
tracking down the cause of the flakiness can be tricky ... as you already know ...
just checking. have you tried connecting with a different (known-good) USB cable? does that seem to have any impact on the rate of occurence of the problem?

HELP!! i have a ton of videos of my boys stored in iPhoto..They played fine on my old OSX system (leopard).  However, I just upgraded to snow leopard and then to mountain lion and now i can't open my videos at all anymore.  HELP!!

Can you tell us about one or more of the video files - what are they?  QuickTime?  MP4?  Something else?  How did you create the video files in the first place?
I do a lot of video and when I upgraded to Snow Leopard I discovered that many of the QT videos that I had created previously (via iMovie & Final Cut) would not play correctly in QuickTime X - the bizarre behavior was that QT X acted as if my video files were only audio files!  I reported this to Apple at the time but never heard anything back, and there hasn't been any change in later updates to QT X.
The solution was to (re)install QuickTime 7.  But first look in your Applications > Utilities folder.  When you upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, the installer normally moves the old QT 7 program to your Utilities folder.  If it's there, try using QT 7 to play one of your video files.    If QT 7 is not there, you can download and install it from here  Make sure you are running at least OS X 10.6.3 before you install QT 7.  It's even better if you make sure you are running 10.6.8 which was the last release of Snow Leopard.
