Cs5 bridge file opens up into HP mediasmart

I have just installed Photoshop cs5, i started to browse through my photos in bridge and when double clicking on the photo, instead of loading into photoshop it loads into HP mediasmart instead. I can't find a way to stop this. If i right click on the photo it lists as the default being HP mediasmart but this is greyed out so i cannot change. I am set as the administrator of the computer so its not a permissions issue. Has anybody any thoughts on this. Thanks in advance.

Thanks Brett, i originally looked at the photoshop preferences not the bridge. Thanks for you help

  • How do I get CS5 Bridge to open instead of CS3?

When I upgraded Photoshop to CS5 I had to do it by upgrading my CS2 version because my CS3 version was part of the creative suite package.  When I open Bridge, I don't get the CS5 version, I get the CS3 version and the two are definitely different.  I like the Output features in the CS5 version since I use it at work, but at home, I don't know how to get the CS5 Bridge to open and, of course, Bridge doesn't show up as a stand alone program in the Program listings.  What to do?  Should I try reinstalling CS5?

Hi there! Because the forum you originally posted in is for beginners trying to learn the basics of Photoshop, I moved your question to the Bridge General Discussion forum, where you'll get more specialized help.

  • CS6 Beta Modifies CS4 & CS5 Bridge File Associations (W7 Pro 64Bit SP1)

    Symptoms:
    After installing CS6 including bridge CS6 onto a W7 pro 64Bit Machine with SP1.
The File associations in the existing copies of CS4 and CS5 bridge are updated to make the CS6 Beta the default programme for opening the majority of file types from either CS4 or CS5 bridge.
When right clicking ona file from CS4/5 bridge only the option of opening in CS6 is presented
    Expected Bahaviour:
I expected that CS6 would be the default programme launched from CS6 bridge but that CS4/CS5 would remain the default programmes launched from their own versions of bridge.
Setting CS6 as the default file association in previous versions of bridge makes no sense at the Beta stage, as it interupts a clean migration back to existing workflow.
I would also question the value in not preserving the existing file associations in prior versions of bridge in the final CS6 release, as there are cases when it might be desirable to go back to a previous version of CS, in which case opening that version of bridge and launching directly into the prior versions of CS is very desirable.
Is there anyway to quickly restore the previous associations in CS4/CS5 bridge and be sure that they are exactly the same as prior to the CS6 beta install ?

Sorry for the noise. I misunderstood your depth of knowlege and what you had tried. I also committed the sin of not testing the procedure all the way through because I did not want to change the association on my computer. I get the same behavior.
    Guess for .jpg
    Registry shows for .jpg:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.jpg\UserCho ice  Progid = Applications\Photoshop.exe
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command  (Default) = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe" "%1"
UserChoice seems to be added when I made the association choice. Note that it points into Applications with a non-version specific Photoshop.exe. Within HKLM\....\Applications there is only one Photoshop.exe -- no version -- and that entry points to CS6.
I believe that explains why the browsed to association is CS6. It does not explain why it would be set up that way. Probably has something to do with Windows special handling of certain file extensions. Beyond my depth and tells me I am not going to find a solution.

  • After CS6beta install, how to I tell CS5 bridge to open images in Photoshop CS5?

I am not ready to do all of my work in CS6 now, I am just trying to learn the interface.  But now I cannot opening anything through bridge or windows explorer using Photoshop CS5 at all.  The only way that I can open any image file in CS5 is to do it directly from Photoshop in the file open menu.  How can I set Bridge CS5 to at least have Photoshop CS5 as an option, if not the default?

Open Photoshop CS5, and launch Bridge from there (Ctrl Alt o) That will open Bridge CS5, and load images into Photoshop CS5.

  • RAW files open directly into Photoshop

Odd issue here: when launching RAW files they open directly into Photoshop. Either Camera Raw gets bypassed or it just processes them on the fly.
This happens after a bit of usage, re-launching Photoshop solves the problem for the next few files.
This happens if I launch the RAW files from the Finder, Bridge or Photomechanic. Only the right-click on my mouse in Bridge will show the option of opening images in Camera Raw.
This is driving us nuts here. Happens on 4 work stations.
RAW files are mostly CR2's. Mac OS 10.4.10

Are you using PhotoKit or PhotoKit Sharpener? If so, this is a known issue with the previous builds...go to the CS3 Beta page and redownload the current builds.

If you AREN'T usinf PhotoKit or Sharpener, try resetting your Bridge preferences and purging the cache.

  • Slowness interacting with CS5.5 file the deeper into the file you go

I have a rather large CS5.5 document that doesn't initially start slow; but as I scroll deeper into the file, the cpu usage will spike and cause ID to become unresponsive. The technical specs of the iMac that ID runs on are well above what is required by ID and every other document opened in ID runs just fine. One factor that may play into this situation was that the original file was created using CS3 and opened directly into CS5.5. Unfortunately the original CS3 file no longer exists.
I've tried breaking the file into smaller 80 page trunks but the problems persists. All links are in working order. Any ideas?

That's potentially problematic, especially if this file behaves differently form other simialr files created in CS5.5. I'd try an export to .idml and see if it helps: Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Bridge File Open in camer raw, is grayed out. Camera raw works in PS.

Why, when a raw file open in Bridge with a double click opens in camera raw, that same file in bridge the 'open camera raw' option in the file menu is grayed out?

There are 3 places to check this option, 1 in Bridge preferences itself, 1 in the camera raw preferences via Bridge and the last one in the PS preferences from PSCS3 itself.
They all should have a checkmark. But there are some issues with this option. You might also want to refresh the preferences with restarting Bridge an holding down option key and after doing so again check and set the prefs to your wishes.

  • ACR (CS5 Bridge) not opening all RAW files

I upgraded to CS5 last week and I'm having a problem with processing some RAW files. If I select ALL the images in a folder in Bridge and right click to open in ACR it doesn't open ALL the images - there are missing images and I cannot for the life of me figure out why it won't open these images up. I've also tried to select one of those omitted images in Bridge and right click to open up in ACR it still won't open it but if I double click it'll open it in ACR but only via PS. I don't get why it won't open some files especially as they're shot with exactly the same camera - any ideas or has anyone else noticed this happening? Thanks in advance!

…Before renaming ACR opens everything selected - once I've renamed the images, ACR only opens some of the images…
Make sure you have renamed the files correctly, i.e. with the appropriate three-letter extension and with no illegal characters in the file name.
If the files are correctly labeled, you might want to purge the cache for the folder through the Tools menu in Bridge.

  • CS5 Bridge Only Opens Image in 64 Bit

Just upgraded from CS4 to CS5. Many problems but 1 major problem is that when I open Bridge and click to open image it opens in CS5 64 bit only!
    Any help here?
    Thanks!
    Dan

There are a couple of things you could do...
If you really want it to open a particular file type every time in the 32 bit Photoshop on your 64 bit system (presumably because you have certain plug-ins only available on the 32 bit side), you can go into Bridge and choose Edit - Preferences - File Type Associations.  Scroll down to the file type you want to associate with Photoshop 32 bit, then change it.  Choose Browse and navigate over to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe".  Voila, now Photoshop 32 bit is associated.
A way to keep the association normally with the 64 bit Photoshop, but occasionally use 32 bit Photoshop is this:  Start the 32 bit Photoshop first, then in Bridge do the Open With Photoshop thing.  It will use the version that's already running.
    Hope this helps!

  • Bridge "file open" icon no longer there - change from CS2?

In Bridge with CS2 there was a little icon on the Bridge thumbnail that showed if a file was currently open in Photoshop.
In Bridge CS3 there is no such icon on the thumbnail. There is no way to see in the Content pane (with the thumbnails) which of the files are currently open in Photoshop or not.
Is this a "feature change" since CS2 that has removed the "open file" icon, or is there a setting that I can't find to make the icon appear again?
(CS3 with Bridge 2.1.1.9 and PS 10.0.1 on Windows Vista Business 32 bit)

I've been searching for an answer to this too and was hoping to find it here. So far no luck, but I'd really love to be able to see which files are open and which are not in bridge...

  • CC by default opens CS5.5 files. I don't want this

I have created a file with CS 5.5. Then installed CC. By default, all CS5.5 files open in CC. I want the file to open in its original version. Is it possible? (I know I can select it to open the file. I want to change the default.) Thanks.

  • NEED HELP. Created Website Template in Photoshop CS5, but cant center it into Dreamweaver CS6

I created a website layout template in Photoshop cs5 once i opened it into Dreamweaver i was trying to Align it to Center but it would not go center still stays to the left. I know that something is not right i am missing something and i am new to this not much experience with Dreamweaver, can someone please tell me how to fix this issue in a way a beginner would understand, i greatly appreciate the help.

Did you export HTML from PShop?  Graphics apps generated code is not suitable for real web pages.  It's really only acceptable for quick comps to show the client before you undertake the real work of building the layout in DW with HTML & CSS code.
To center pages, you need 3 basic things.
A valid doc type declaration on the first line of your code.
A stated width in px, % or ems.
    A margin-left and margin-right of auto.
Copy & paste this code into a new, blank document in DW.  Save and preview in browsers.
    <!doctype html>

  • File size variations in Cs5, Bridge, & Mac when opening D800e raw files

I am getting extreme variations in file size when I open my D800e nefs in photoshop cs5, & Bridge. When I highlight the same nefs on my Mac(10.6.8) & "get info", I get another file size.  D800e files are about 103 MB each at 8 bit, but can vary dramatically when I open them in Bridge or Cs5. Any ideas? Thanks!

Thank you for responding. I understand what you are saying. After more attempts at resizing nef files into tifs, and then restarting my computer, everything seems to be ok. However, when I make a four shot stitched pan with the D800e, I encounter the same problem even after downsizing to a more manageble file size. Each photo in the pan is originally 103MB. After resizing the 4 shots to 30MB each, I end up with a pan that is about 75MB in CS5 after cropping. When I highlight this pan & "get info" on my Mac desktop, the image size is 300-400 MB. I can ignore this for personal use, but if I have to send it to a client via the internet its a problem. I have made stitched pans with my D3s with no problem at all, so I guessing I have to switch cameras when I want to stitch shots together. If anyone has any more comments feel free!

  • My CS5 Bridge opens images into Quicktime by Default rather than PS or ACR

I recently changed from an old pc running XP Service Pack 3 to a new computer running 7 and upgraded from CS4 to CS5 with an "upgrade disc". When I double click in Bridge to open into PS or ACR the images open into Quicktime by default.
A secondary though niggling glitch is that when I run CS5 in my Administrator  A/c 7 won't let me delete files/folders unless I turn off my Security Setting
Any corrective ideas would be much appreciated
    Thank Tou

In Bridge click on edit/preferences/file type associations.
Adjust the default to CS5 for the file format you want to open in PS.

  • Why wont my psd files open from Bridge into Photoshop

When I try to double click on a psd file is Bridge, it opens in some other image viewer... not Photoshop.  Under File>Open With, there are a number of
possibilities, but none of them are PS.  There's Fire Fox, and Microsoft Mail and Painter X but not Photoshop.  I can open Raw files but not Psd's or
jepgs... What could possibly be wrong.  I cannot find a preferance I've marked incorrectly.

First, I have never made any changes to this area in Preferences.  When I saw the suggestion to check file associations in Bridge Pref., I looked  through the file asssociations and mostly I found listed  'none beside most types,' but beside Psd, Tiff, and Jpegs it said, "Explorer Settings."  Why in the heck would that be there?  I clicked on that and noticed I could direct a search through my computer for something else, so I when straight for Adobe and on to Photoshop Cs5, and clicked OK.  After that, I could open the psd's  in Photoshop and under File>Open With, PScs5 was listed now as the defautl... YEA!... But when I tried the same with jpegs, it didn't work.  I put in PHcs5, but they are opening in Camera Raw.  Now while I could want that option, I don't want that as a default.  I'm totally perplexed as to how this could be happening. I've been using Bridge since it was first introduced into PS, and I've never had a problem like this.   I hope someone who is more educated in this area will please shed some light on this for me.
I'm in an advanced Digital Imaging class, and I asked my all knowing teacher and she was confused as well.
    Thanks.  7SUS
